End the DHS??

John Boehner says he’s ready to not fund the Department of Homeland Security, which apparently runs out of money for salaries, etc., in two weeks.   This would mean that about 200,000 of the department’s 230,000 workers would be required to come to work without pay because of their essential job functions such as *law enforcement, border security, Secret Service protection and passenger processing at ports of entry, according to the Associated Press. The remaining 30,000 workers would be furloughed. (*I’m not sure which ‘law enforcement’ that involves).

When I heard the DHS could be cut that deeply, I cringed because I knew the Left would take this to town and they are:   Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said one certainty is Boehner “will be responsible for shutting down a large part of the government.” A spokesman for House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi called Boehner’s remarks “a sad reflection of the fact that Tea Party continues to hold the gavel.”  (Z: I could say something to that one but I’m way too polite.  Damn)

And, of course, John McCain agrees with the Left and some other Republicans:  “I think it would be terrible,” McCain said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “The American people didn’t give us the majority to have a fight between House and Senate Republicans. They want things done. We cannot cut funding for the Department of Homeland Security.”

SO, some of my friends feel defunding the DHS is probably a good thing…. Others, not so much.

Are you with McCain?  Or do you think we need to shut the whole thing down because it’s bloated and too “federal”?   And can that be done now, with nobody covering the security they absolutely do provide before states pick it up, and can the individual states afford to take that on, particularly when a lot of the DHS is federal issues?

The bill, which would provide the Department of Homeland Security with necessary operating funds, is contingent on obstructing President Obama’s recent executive actions on immigration. While a bill has passed the house, Senate Democrats have blocked it several times.   THAT IS THE CRUX OF THIS WHOLE MESS.

What do you think should be done?  You know VERY WELL that the Left is less concerned about security and more thrilled that they can tell America REPUBLICANS HATE YOU AND DON’T WANT YOU SAFE! ….and they’re rejoicing that Pelosi can say her idiotic stuff, and Schumer can slam Republicans, heck….McCain’s in on it, too (what else is new?)….

If you were Boehner, what would you do?

  1. Kid says:

The only difference between mccain and obama is .. hmm can’t think of one.

Yea, defund it. Who thinks that if the vermin decide to go shoot up a mall, the feds will be there to do anything about it. The feds aren’t even keeping them from crossing the border. All the Border Patrol does is score some weed and coke coming across. Security is always a local thing. In your house it is you who are security. In your community, its the cops. All you need are some guys looking for the big stuff by monitoring social internet and cell phone chatter.

  2. It’s all about the political standoff between the POTUS and this new Congress that will not do his bidding.

  3. I think that BHO knows that the likelihood of a horrific jihad attack here on our soil is high. He wants the GOP to be blamed.

How much does the DHS do to protect us? I don’t know the answer.

  4. Why doesn’t the GOP effectively get out the information as to what is really going on? Or is it that some 40% of Americans wouldn’t listen anyway?

  5. John M. Berger says:

I believe that this and a myriad of other problems will continue to fester unless and until Americans garner the fortitude to restore rational leadership to our highest level(s) of government; in particular at 1600 Pennsylvania. My optimism, in that regard, is yet to be realized. Other than that I, regrettably, I’m having great difficulty in addressing the issue in today’s post with the specificity that it deserves.

  6. FB says:

This sums up American politics. Extreme solutions on both ends. At the end, the Republicans will lose the communication battle again. Boehner is awful at explaining himself. The losers are the American people who pay the bill for those morons while they get richer and enrich their lobby friends. They don’t deserve their salary.

  7. Lisa says:

I think AOW has a point. Obama and the Obamamedia have people convinced that the republicans are irrelevant. What a sad place we are in now when we have a leader who is all about himself and his politics.
He doesn’t govern,he doesn’t know how. He just maks a speech and then runs off to a fund raiser ,a golf game or some other elusive event.

  8. Mustang says:
It does not take long for a government bureaucracy to become bloated and ineffective. Imagine the difficulty of someone weighing 350 pounds running even 100 yards. The larger a bureaucracy becomes, the less efficient it becomes—and the less responsive it is to its intended mission. IMO, DHS was a very bad idea to begin with. In its creation, President Bush made this statement: the people running 22 of our most important security agencies cannot be trusted to do their high-paying jobs, so the idiot placed all of these under a humongous new agency. Subsequently, Barack Obama gave this ‘awesome’ responsibility to Janet Napolitano—whose claim to fame included giving preferential promotion to her lesbian partners.

As it happens, the House funded all of DHS minus the executive order signed by Barack Obama that circumvents the Constitutional Authority of Congress —that pertaining to executive immigration actions. I do not see how Boehner is holding up the process or refusing to fund DHS. It rather look as if Senate Democrats (of which John McCain is one) is doing that. Given the billions upon billions of dollars spent on DHS, perhaps it is time to evaluate how effective DHS has been in keeping America safe. Since 9/11, there have been 42 Islamist terrorist attacks inside the USA. One should wonder if we taxpayers are getting our money’s worth.

  9. geeez2014 says:

Kid, you should have heard FOX this morning…..the lefty accusing Republicans of not caring about if we’re hit with terror and how awful these R’s are and how this will definitely affect the 2016 election…as if we needed to know they’d pull THAT card.

Katy Pavlich tried to remind the Lefty that IT WAS OBAMA WHO ATTACHED THE IMMIGRATION BILL HE UNCONSTITUTIONALLY PASSED BY EXEC ORDER TO THE DHS FUNDING~
And the Lefty just kept on reminding America that it’s the R’s fault and how terrible they are….It never ends and people DO believe DHS is what’s keeping us safe….

Boehner should be hitting on THAT point…but he won’t. And, if we insist, he’ll just cry.

AOW..it’s all perfectly set up by Obama….he attached these two fundings together, it’s HIS FAULT.

John…it does deserve specificity, you’re right…but who really knows all the facts? I just heard that 85% of DHS is safe financially anyway because those are ESSENTIAL JOBS….so who’s completely LYING or leaving stuff OUT? Boehner AND the Left…they’re all swine

FB…I agree; Boehner NEVER explains enough and then Conservatives look bad. He’s BAD BAD BAD

  10. geeez2014 says:

Lisa… that’s a GIVEN. Obama and his media are not only telling America that R’s are irrelevant, but they hate the poor, don’t care about terrorism, etc… and it’s working..

Mustang; I totally agree with you…..but nobody’s exposing these truths in the media…not even FOX. Perhaps they just don’t have the guts; they certainly don’t always have the facts. I’m sure you, too (like me), often talk back to the TV with “tell them THIS…tell them THAT…why aren’t you mentioning THAT?”

    But, nada

  11. Trust Mustang to make a critical point: As it happens, the House funded all of DHS minus the executive order signed by Barack Obama that circumvents the Constitutional Authority of Congress —that pertaining to executive immigration actions.

  12. Why isn’t the GOP harping on the point that Mustang made above?

Why isn’t Fox News screeching about it, too?

  13. Impertinent says:

@AOW…”BHO knows that the likelihood of a horrific jihad attack here on our soil is high.”

Of course he does…just as we know that he is the one man jihad waging war against us for the mudslimes on our soil.

  14. Kid says:

Mustang, let’s not forget that Janet never made a single statement that wasn’t immediately retracted or an incredible lie because she had no clue what she was talking about.

  15. Er……..what am I missing here? Why would we want to de-fund the DHS? How does everyone think we as well as the Canadians have successfully stopped terrorists BEFORE they acted to blow up a mall or whatever? Haven’t we thus far been doing a good job protecting ourselves? What am I missing here? And why on earth would we want to stop the DHS from protecting us?

  16. Impertinent says:

If it means defunding the slugs and useless TSA…I’m all for it. Profile and privatize security and kill the TSA. Let the FAA oversee it and the airlines pay for it.

  17. geeez2014 says:

Mal, some of the comments above pertain to your question, particularly by Kid and Mustang, and I’d be interested to hear your response.

AOW…that’s what we’ve been trying to say…as I said above in a comment EVEN FOX ISN’T TALKING ABOUT IT CORRECTLY!

OBAMA IS THE ONE WHO HOOKED THESE TWO TOGETHER; IMMIGRATION AND DHS.

My point here is that, right NOW, today, we can’t just shut DHS down…SO the Left is MAKING HAY on this…blaming The R’s for jeo

iMP: I know you know airline safety and I’m totally on your side here…privatize…you’re so right.

THIS IS A TYPICAL SITUATION WHERE THE MEDIA IS PERPETUATING LIES AND AMERICA’S BUYING IT.

  18. Mustang says:

    @ Mal

Since 9/11, there have been 42 Islamist terrorist attacks inside the USA. How is DHS protecting us? In those attacks, 71 Americans lost their lives. Given the billions of dollars allocated to DHS to protect us, do you think they are keeping us safe?

  19. Okay. I definitely am for less government, however and whenever possible. Just don’t dismantle whatever security we have in the process. If we can cut down on all the waste yet maintain or improve on our present security, I’m all for it.

  20. Put another way, wouldn’t our Muslim President love to dismantle the DHS entirely?

  21. Kid says:

Mal, that might actually keep him awake at night 🙂 Hmmm, Waste Billions? or dismantle the intelligence services?

    bubba clinton did both btw.

  22. Impertinent says:

Ovomit and his jihadists….never never say “Islamic” terrorism.
This is a war of civilizations…..Ovomit needs to recuse himself.

    http://video.foxnews.com/v/4056544658001

  23. Mustang says:

    @mal

Is security possible when any president refuses calling Islamist terror what it is? Is it possible to have security when the Department of State admits people into the U.S. from 38 countries without a visa? How secure are we with thousands streaming across our borders every day? The issue is much larger than size of government, IMHO.

  24. Kid says:

How do we know DHS has foiled “anything”? I don’t believe they have. Anyway, I’m not talking about removing the FBI, CIA and others that actually do the work since they work on many things other than moslem vermin. I would definitely get rid of the useless management layer created as “DHS” and the TSA for sure. Then when the FBI didn’t inform the other departments (whole reason for DHS in the 1st place) and something happened, there would be serious criminal charges for everyone involved.

  25. geeez2014 says:

Mustang and Kid, you’re mostly for getting these things out of the Federal Govt’s hands, right?
I think the TSA seems like a bunch of sloths at the airport, but I’m sure they’ve found stuff that they should find…my point being that why not move it to privatization and, if possible, paid for by the states where any particular airport is located?
Or make it part of the airport’s expenses, or something? Just PRIVATIZE it.
of course, then we have to make sure no rogues are hired and I don’t know how you do that, but I don’t expect we’ve been any more careful at TSA.

  26. Kid says:

“DHS” was completely informed about the Boston bombers, and look how that turned out. As an aside why would we bring known terrorists here and put them on welfare. What The….

The whole situation is insane – its barely conversational it’s so ridiculous.

  27. Kid says:

Z, I would argue the TSA has done nothing useful. Why should we take a reasonably pleasant experience and turn it into such a nightmare. This means They have won. Churchill would be upchucking in his grave. People die all the time. planes fall out of the sky from time to time. And there is no certainty of security anyway, not by a long shot. It’s not worth it. It’s not the American Way. it’s not the way of a free society to treat everyone as a criminal when they travel.

Anyone that wants to do a bomb on a plane on their person is going to find a way to get it done. All this for nothing.

If it was up to me, I’d get rid of the jumbo jets and have everyone flying on executive jets. Just need more airports. Who is going to go to all the trouble to blow up 8 other people?

As far as the moslems why are they here and in other civilized countries. They have nothing in common with a free society. islam IS a hate crime. It should be illegal.

  28. Kid says:

Z, PS, So specifically, I want security people out of sight and not in contact with passengers at airports. Go ahead and have some metal detectors, but also profile for arabs. Give them a hard time and if they don’t like it tell them to complain to the half a billion of them that are running around committing unbelievable evil.

  29. John M. Berger says:

    @KID,
    RE: “profile for arabs”
    YES
“Give them a hard time and if they don’t like it tell them to complain to the half a billion of them that are running around committing unbelievable evil.”

    SPOT-ON, my friend!

  30. -FJ says:

    Shut ‘er down!

  31. Mustang says:
    @ Z

I think there is things that only the federal government can do well, but as Kid suggests, TSA is not one of them. Ignoring the number of TSA officers arrested for trafficking in drugs, or conspiring to steal luggage … even ignoring the number of Moslems working for TSA due to affirmative action and equal opportunity … can anyone tell you how traveling is safer now than it was on 9/11? If the answer to that question is ‘no’, then how can we justify the amount of money being flushed down the toilet?

All airports fall under the authority of the FAA. Why? Even if you wanted to have a federal supervisor at every US airport, why couldn’t states provide security for their own aviation operations? I am sure it may not make any difference at places like Logan Airport where Moslems have a right to do what they want, and to whom … but in rationally governed states, I am betting the states could do a better job keeping their own citizens safe.

Most bureaucrats are sloths. They want the big bucks, but prefer not to have to do much in exchange for such a big payday. Moreover, their unions protect the worst of the lot. I never could understand that … as it would seem to me that a union would want the kind of reputation most non-Union Americans could relate to. But, no…

  32. John M. Berger says:

    @Mustang,

“Most bureaucrats are sloths. They want the big bucks, but prefer not to have to do much in exchange for such a big payday. Moreover, their unions protect the worst of the lot.”

Yes and I would go further to say that “unions”, public and private, develop work rules that are so counter productive as to engender a [sloth] like environment which disallows and destroys any positive work ethic which, otherwise, may have existed. I see no need for PUBLIC SECTOR UNIONS, whatsoever! At least one potential Presidential contender gets this!

  33. geeez2014 says:

Ben Carson says: “Our military needs to know that they’re not going be prosecuted when they come back, because somebody has said, ‘You did something that was politically incorrect,’” Carson told Bill Hemmer on Fox News Monday morning. “There is no such thing as a politically correct war. We need to grow up, we need to mature. If you’re gonna have rules for war, you should just have a rule that says no war. Other than that, we have to win. Our life depends on it.”

    Love that…

Kid, Mustang, John, Imp, etc……all your ideas are good. Sure, kick out the DHS! But it’s not going to happen. We know that and you know that. It could happen under a Ben Carson, for example, but the Leftist media is already jumping all OVER him, Scott Walker, Jindal, etc…the HATE TRAIN IS ON THE TRACKS….and this news today about CLOSING DHS goes down BADLY with most Americans and you all know that.

    Misinformed people will swallow ANYTHING.

Until that JERK John Boehner can EXPLAIN HIMSELF WELL, and other R’s follow suit, we’re SCREWED, let’s face it! TELL the American public how the DHS is ridiculous…yes, you’re going to tick off DHS employees but raise your hand if some TSA dope’s going to vote Conservative, anyway!

    Well…I’m blathering here:

TELL ME HOW YOU LIKE CARSON’S QUOTE ABOVE AND THEN, YOU GUYS, TELL US HOW WE TAKE THE STATES BACK REALISTICALLY….AND IN TIME…. (good luuuuuck!)

  34. geeez2014 says:

    JMB…which one ? Walker?

  35. Impertinent says:

Can we burn down the WH, purge it, fumigate it….and start again? Like in 1812…or maybe we’ll just wait for ISIS to do it.

  36. Impertinent says:

DemoRats boycotting Netanyahu’s visit to the US and before Congress. Now help me out here….aren’t 99% of Jews DemRats too and voted for this scumbag and the dems that are boycotting BiBi? Not one demrat signed a “Welcome Mr. Prime Minister” letter to him. This reminds me that the Republicans were the ones that passed the civil rights act and other laws benefitting blacks…while the demrats formed the KKK, took hoses to them, established Jim Crow. And under FDR a demrat … did nothing to help the Jews in Europe either? Now either the Jews are idiots for being demrats or the demrats are so smart that they can get away with this?

  37. fredd says:

We survived somehow for over 200 years without the Department of Homeland Security. Let it die, fire 200,000 government workers, shift the DHS duties elsewhere, and get on with life.

The airlines will figure out how to keep bombs off our planes. And charge us for doing so. Like it should be.

  38. Kid says:

John, Thx for your earlier comment and regards public unions… I think they are even worse than the Feds.
A podunk firehouse recently had to let go 90 fire fighters, keeping 13 and calling it good.
A podunk school Lakota School Dist, let 90 Administrators and 100 teachers go and called it good. What? 90 administrators??? Unreal. The local public unions are raping us far worse than the feds.

  39. Kid says:

IMP, rather than quote your whole post, I’m just going to direct reply.

There ya go. Mind Boggling isn’t it? Now you have All European Jewish people considering abandoning all of Europe and moving to Israel at Bibi’s request. Because life for them in -Now- moslem occupied Europe is going to be hell on wheels.

  40. Kid says:

PS, and if they can’t see how that moslem POS obama is helping the vermin, they’re not nearly as smart as made out to be.

  41. Impertinent says:

@Kid…isn’t that the same thing as willing to get into the box cars once more? This time to Israel but still being forced to leave Europe? Jesus…what’s wrong with these people? And what’s wrong with the Wasserman Schultz or Chucky Schumer ( Super Jew ) not saying one word about it? If they do get to Israel I hope they find out fast what it takes to stay alive.

  42. Kid says:

IMP, It’s a boondoggie mind boggley heck of a thing that I don’t have the DNA to figure

  43. John M. Berger says:

    @ Z,

    “JMB…which one ? Walker?”
Yes, indeed, but you know that. Please believe me I’ve been there and done that in several ways.

    2

  44. geeez2014 says:

I just heard a teaser for Watters’ World, which I TRY not to watch; he asked some young girl, maybe college age, WHO WON THE CIVIL WAR and her answer was “I don’t know..AMERICA?”
Then he asked an adult man what the “D” in FDR stood for and he said DELAWARE.

    I can’t stand it.

JMB……Walker; think he has a chance? I like him.

  45. Impertinent says:

@Z…Who was your favorite Prez he asked a girl. JFK she said…..cause he’s cute. God help us. That’s partly one of the reason we have the Magic Negro ( coined by the LA Times ) as “pres” too.

Byt Z…when pressed she said…the South?

  46. geeez2014 says:

Imp; whatever. I only had the guts to watch the teaser…turned it off after that.
    The SOUTH, huh?
    fantastic. W(#$*&(&*$#(&$

  47. John M. Berger says:

    Z,
“JMB……Walker; think he has a chance? I like him.”

OMG, He didn’t complete his Degree! BFD, but he has damn well proven himself in the [real] world and that’s what counts to me. I can only worry that he started too early so as the DemocRAT-Termites can start on tearing him down too soon. After all morons are allowed to vote! OH-Boy would I like to do something about that!.

  48. Kid says:

JMB, this is a non-starter IF the other side only says this:
Bil Gates dropped out of college. Zukerberg dropped out of college. How could a youngster Dis Zukerberg by dissing Walker for incomplete college time? They;ll find a way or course…

  49. Mustang says:

Anyone who voted for Barack Douche has no right to question the bona fides of Scott Walker.

  50. John M. Berger says:

OH,OH I forgot to mention Steve Jobs and Rush. Wow, they sure screwed up too!

  51. Saw this just now:

A federal judge issued a preliminary injunction on Monday that will temporarily prevent the Obama administration from moving forward with its executive actions on immigration while a lawsuit against the president works its way through the courts.

The order, by Judge Andrew Hanen of the U.S. District Court in Brownsville, Texas, was an early stumble for the administration in what will likely be a long legal battle over whether President Barack Obama overstepped his constitutional authority with the wide-reaching executive actions on immigration he announced last November.

While the injunction does not pronounce Obama’s actions illegal, it prevents the administration from implementing them until the court rules on their constitutionality….

  52. Kid says:

    AOW, It’s about time.
