End the DHS??

John Boehner says he’s ready to not fund the Department of Homeland Security, which apparently runs out of money for salaries, etc., in two weeks.   This would mean that about 200,000 of the department’s 230,000 workers would be required to come to work without pay because of their essential job functions such as *law enforcement, border security, Secret Service protection and passenger processing at ports of entry, according to the Associated Press. The remaining 30,000 workers would be furloughed. (*I’m not sure which ‘law enforcement’ that involves).

When I heard the DHS could be cut that deeply, I cringed because I knew the Left would take this to town and they are:   Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said one certainty is Boehner “will be responsible for shutting down a large part of the government.” A spokesman for House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi called Boehner’s remarks “a sad reflection of the fact that Tea Party continues to hold the gavel.”  (Z: I could say something to that one but I’m way too polite.  Damn)

And, of course, John McCain agrees with the Left and some other Republicans:  “I think it would be terrible,” McCain said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “The American people didn’t give us the majority to have a fight between House and Senate Republicans. They want things done. We cannot cut funding for the Department of Homeland Security.”

SO, some of my friends feel defunding the DHS is probably a good thing…. Others, not so much.

Are you with McCain?  Or do you think we need to shut the whole thing down because it’s bloated and too “federal”?   And can that be done now, with nobody covering the security they absolutely do provide before states pick it up, and can the individual states afford to take that on, particularly when a lot of the DHS is federal issues?

The bill, which would provide the Department of Homeland Security with necessary operating funds, is contingent on obstructing President Obama’s recent executive actions on immigration. While a bill has passed the house, Senate Democrats have blocked it several times.   THAT IS THE CRUX OF THIS WHOLE MESS.

What do you think should be done?  You know VERY WELL that the Left is less concerned about security and more thrilled that they can tell America REPUBLICANS HATE YOU AND DON’T WANT YOU SAFE! ….and they’re rejoicing that Pelosi can say her idiotic stuff, and Schumer can slam Republicans, heck….McCain’s in on it, too (what else is new?)….

If you were Boehner, what would you do?

Yea, defund it. Who thinks that if the vermin decide to go shoot up a mall, the feds will be there to do anything about it. The feds aren’t even keeping them from crossing the border. All the Border Patrol does is score some weed and coke coming across. Security is always a local thing. In your house it is you who are security. In your community, its the cops. All you need are some guys looking for the big stuff by monitoring social internet and cell phone chatter.

I believe that this and a myriad of other problems will continue to fester unless and until Americans garner the fortitude to restore rational leadership to our highest level(s) of government; in particular at 1600 Pennsylvania. It does not take long for a government bureaucracy to become bloated and ineffective. Imagine the difficulty of someone weighing 350 pounds running even 100 yards. The larger a bureaucracy becomes, the less efficient it becomes—and the less responsive it is to its intended mission. IMO, DHS was a very bad idea to begin with. In its creation, President Bush made this statement: the people running 22 of our most important security agencies cannot be trusted to do their high-paying jobs, so the idiot placed all of these under a humongous new agency. Subsequently, Barack Obama gave this ‘awesome’ responsibility to Janet Napolitano—whose claim to fame included giving preferential promotion to her lesbian partners.

As it happens, the House funded all of DHS minus the executive order signed by Barack Obama that circumvents the Constitutional Authority of Congress —that pertaining to executive immigration actions. I do not see how Boehner is holding up the process or refusing to fund DHS. It rather look as if Senate Democrats (of which John McCain is one) is doing that. Given the billions upon billions of dollars spent on DHS, perhaps it is time to evaluate how effective DHS has been in keeping America safe. Since 9/11, there have been 42 Islamist terrorist attacks inside the USA. One should wonder if we taxpayers are getting our money’s worth.

Katy Pavlich tried to remind the Lefty that IT WAS OBAMA WHO ATTACHED THE IMMIGRATION BILL HE UNCONSTITUTIONALLY PASSED BY EXEC ORDER TO THE DHS FUNDING~
And the Lefty just kept on reminding America that it’s the R’s fault and how terrible they are….It never ends and people DO believe DHS is what’s keeping us safe….

Boehner should be hitting on THAT point…but he won’t. And, if we insist, he’ll just cry.

AOW..it’s all perfectly set up by Obama….he attached these two fundings together, it’s HIS FAULT.

John…it does deserve specificity, you’re right…but who really knows all the facts? I just heard that 85% of DHS is safe financially anyway because those are ESSENTIAL JOBS….so who’s completely LYING or leaving stuff OUT? Boehner AND the Left…they’re all swine

Is it possible to have security when the Department of State admits people into the U.S. from 38 countries without a visa? How secure are we with thousands streaming across our borders every day? The issue is much larger than size of government, IMHO.

Anyway, I’m not talking about removing the FBI, CIA and others that actually do the work since they work on many things other than moslem vermin. I would definitely get rid of the useless management layer created as “DHS” and the TSA for sure. Then when the FBI didn’t inform the other departments (whole reason for DHS in the 1st place) and something happened, there would be serious criminal charges for everyone involved.

Or make it part of the airport’s expenses, or something? Just PRIVATIZE it.
of course, then we have to make sure no rogues are hired and I don’t know how you do that, but I don’t expect we’ve been any more careful at TSA.

It’s not the American Way. it’s not the way of a free society to treat everyone as a criminal when they travel.

Anyone that wants to do a bomb on a plane on their person is going to find a way to get it done. All this for nothing.

If it was up to me, I’d get rid of the jumbo jets and have everyone flying on executive jets. Just need more airports. Who is going to go to all the trouble to blow up 8 other people?

I think there is things that only the federal government can do well, but as Kid suggests, TSA is not one of them. Ignoring the number of TSA officers arrested for trafficking in drugs, or conspiring to steal luggage … even ignoring the number of Moslems working for TSA due to affirmative action and equal opportunity … can anyone tell you how traveling is safer now than it was on 9/11? If the answer to that question is ‘no’, then how can we justify the amount of money being flushed down the toilet?

All airports fall under the authority of the FAA. Why? Even if you wanted to have a federal supervisor at every US airport, why couldn’t states provide security for their own aviation operations? I am sure it may not make any difference at places like Logan Airport where Moslems have a right to do what they want, and to whom … but in rationally governed states, I am betting the states could do a better job keeping their own citizens safe.

Most bureaucrats are sloths. They want the big bucks, but prefer not to have to do much in exchange for such a big payday. Moreover, their unions protect the worst of the lot. Yes and I would go further to say that “unions”, public and private, develop work rules that are so counter productive as to engender a [sloth] like environment which disallows and destroys any positive work ethic which, otherwise, may have existed. The order, by Judge Andrew Hanen of the U.S. District Court in Brownsville, Texas, was an early stumble for the administration in what will likely be a long legal battle over whether President Barack Obama overstepped his constitutional authority with the wide-reaching executive actions on immigration he announced last November.

While the injunction does not pronounce Obama’s actions illegal, it prevents the administration from implementing them until the court rules on their constitutionality….
