Lincoln….on this day

lincoln

Holy SMOKE!   One of the questions on this rather interesting article includes this:

7. Where was the Secret Service?

It didn’t exist yet, but Lincoln signed the bill creating it that night before he left for Ford’s Theater.

TALK ABOUT IRONY!

Tonight is the 150th anniversary of Lincoln’s killing.  I was lucky enough to stand at the box, and then go across the street to see the bed he died in;  very moving experience.  May he continue to rest in peace.

I am a fan.

  1. I haven’t seen that, Z, but have been to the “Little White House” in Georgia where FDR use to vacation and saw his bedroom, study, etc. Even his car with hand controls because he had Polio.
I visited there while stationed at Fort Benning in 1951.

  2. Kid says:

I read a piece today wherein President Lincoln said “If someone wants to get at me, there is nothing that can be done to stop it”.

A rather tumultuous time to be unprotected. Imagine the idiot obama in the white house and a civil war going on right now.

  3. There is a civil war going on right now.

  4. geeez2014 says:

    Ed’s right.

    Mal, that’s very cool!

Kid….Obama’d be under the bed bleaching his skin to look like somebody else.

  5. Baysider says:

Two great Lincoln quotes in honor of his memory:
Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.
    and
America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.

  6. Mustang says:

Now I hear the “left” is putting forth the argument that “all men are created equal” is racist.

    Idiots.

  7. geeez2014 says:

    Baysider..he was a prophet!

Mustang….is this a joke? ‘racist’? if they don’t think that’s true, who’s better than others?
I thought maybe they think it’s sexist because all WOMEN aren’t included and HIllary’s voters might not like that!?

  8. Imp says:

Don’t interfere with anything in the Constitution. That must be maintained, for it is the only safeguard of our liberties. And not to Democrats alone do I make this appeal, but to all who love these great and true principles.
–August 27, 1856 Speech at Kalamazoo, Michigan

  9. geeez2014 says:

Interesting he’d mostly direct that to Dems, Imp!
Today, I see a gay writer has written a book about how Washington and LIncoln were gay. The fun never quits, huh.

  10. Imp says:

Even back then he had the perspicacity to realize that the dems were rats not to be trusted with the Constitution.

  11. Baysider says:

You should read (or listen to) the Lincoln Douglas debates. These modern sound bites bear no resemblance to an actual debate. These were serious discussions of the issues. And when you read them it’s clear why the Republican party was founded. Douglas and the Dems don’t come off too well.
