The Pope Again……..

pope francis 2Our good buddy SilverFiddle blogged on the Pope the other day.  To me, the only conclusion thinking people could reach, after reading SF’s excellent piece and the comments page, on what the Pope thinks about global warming and other questions, is that the Pope over reaches on matters one could say are clearly not his expertise, to put it charitably.

So, when I ran across this article on the Pope and weapons sales, I wanted to post it and weigh in on it….and I hope to hear your opinions, too.  I’m a little outraged, frankly, because my Mr. Z dealt in weapons (between you and me…ssshhhhh) and he was a very good Christian.

CAN one produce arms and be a Christian?  The Pope says (in front of ‘thousands of young’ ..and I add “impressionable”… people,’)   “It makes me think of … people, managers, businessmen who call themselves Christian and they manufacture weapons. That leads to a bit a distrust, doesn’t it?” he said to applause.”

He goes on to talk about the “Shoah,” or Holocaust, and how countries did little to help the Jews…“The great powers had the pictures of the railway lines that brought the trains to the concentration camps like Auschwitz to kill Jews, Christians, homosexuals, everybody. Why didn’t they bomb (the railway lines)?”

The first criticism I have is that most railroad lines were built before the war;  few people had any reason to know what was going on.  Most people don’t understand that it took a  long time before people realized what was happening to the Jews as they were ‘trained’ to their deaths… I’m not sure countries couldn’t have done more (I know there’s even debate today about whether Jews could have done more to escape the NAZI purge), but I think he needs better information to come to his conclusions and I don’t see that his conjecture is valuable in any way, shape or form.   He also included the Armenians in his condemnation of massacres but, this time, the article says that “Discussing World War One, he spoke of “the great tragedy of Armenia” but did not use the word “genocide”.

Yes, as you all know,  “Francis sparked a diplomatic row in April calling the massacre of up to 1.5 million Armenians 100 years ago “the first genocide of the 20th century,” prompting Turkey to recall its ambassador to the Vatican.”    So, this time,  he avoided that term ‘genocide’;  God forbid he ticked off the Turks again with the truth, huh?  I’d be happier if he had the guts to call it as it really was again, to stand by his words.

pope francis 3

Some of you remember my unhappiness when he was picked as Pope.  I’m not Catholic but I follow this all closely and have to admit I love the Pomp and Circumstance…I do.  So, when this Pope decided to ride the Metro and not live in the lovely Vatican apartments, etc., most people looked at it as populist, “a man of the people!” I looked at it as a man who didn’t take seriously the grandeur of the position he’d been put in, something many Catholics look up to as they consider him a representative of GOD, after all.  But, that’s not what I’d like to discuss today.   And yes, I know most of you disagree with me and I’m very happy you got your populist, touch-feely Pope…but………

The remarks above have confirmed that he’s not ready for the BIG TIME, particularly because young people are swallowing it up as they swallow the bull pucky they hear from lib profs in their schools…and, while Catholics view a Pope’s selection as ‘divine intervention,’ and I’d never condemn that or even remotely suggest otherwise, I wonder what God was doing with this one!   But, then, I often wonder what the heck God is doing… very often,  so………..

Comments?  CAN a person be involved with making, procuring or selling weapons and be a faithful Christian?

  1. Pope Francis is over the line when he states that weapons manufacturers cannot be Christians! He doesn’t know these people’s hearts! I suggest that the Pope open his Bible and do some reading about that principle in the Word.

Linking his outrageous statement with the Holocaust is a serious flaw in logic. Worse, it’s the Pope speaking along the same lines as Obama (Gun control!)

    From the article:

He spoke of the “tragedy of the Shoah,” using the Hebrew term for the Holocaust.

“The great powers had the pictures of the railway lines that brought the trains to the concentration camps like Auschwitz to kill Jews, Christians, homosexuals, everybody. Why didn’t they bomb (the railway lines)?”

Is the Pope suggesting bombing gun factories?

  2. Does the “Church” have an impeachment process?

  3. Kid says:

He’s a communist. A dumb one or one that is being willfully manipulated. Sounds like he’s in obama’s back pocket. Maybe obama has made some big contributions?

Guns? So let’s say no one ever manufacturers a gun again. Then what, manufacturers of baseball bats, knives, machetes, hammers, screwdrivers…………… How about Rocks? God manufactured those.. I’m no expert, but I believe the Bible has no problem with our defending ourselves from evil.

Then I hope he’s prepared to go kiss the butt and beg their forgiveness of the family and friends of every woman who is raped and murdered because they no longer had a means to defend themselves from vermin who now know they’re disarmed. Not to mention anyone unable to defend themselves from some vermin who bust through the door with a couple baseball bats. Like the vermin would be disarmed..

There is no one stupider than someone who thinks law abiding citizens should be disarmed.

Finally, all this nonsense and not a peep from this guy about how the moslems are invading every other country on Earth with full intention to, at minimum, breed them out and impose sharia. And this idiot, like obama, thinks a warmer Earth is a problem ? A warmer Earth is a good thing and that’s based on history.

    Planet of the Apes.

  4. Kid says:

AOW, Plus hindsight is 20-20 isn’t it.

  5. silverfiddle says:

Interesting that the Pope would throw in the Holocaust, because before shoving Jews into ovens and gas chambers, Hitler’s nazi government disarmed them

I am saddened and dismayed at the Pope’s trafficking in such intellectually-lazy leftwing tropes.

Z: Thank you for the linkage and the kind words!

  6. “Why didn’t they bomb (the railway lines)?”
Since when are bombs NOT WEAPONS? Given the long term, tenure of his position and the potential sphere of his influence this guy may be even more dangerous than B.O.!

  7. geeez2014 says:

John! “since when are bombs not weapons?” OMG!! THAT rocks. Yes, it’s okay to make or buy arms to do what the Pope wants done but not okay as a Christian to make or buy arms! That is BRILLIANT. Thanks for that!

SF…WOW WOW WOW….I am saddened, too. I didn’t always like everything Pope Benedict said or did, but I mostly did; I thoroughly respected him, at least. Of course, my German husband was thrilled about a German Pope!
FASCINATING information about disarming before holocaust; thanks for that. You know, we ALL KNOW the Pope doesn’t want anybody dead, but if he’d just start THINKING THROUGH his stances…THAT is my beef.
I WANT to respect the Pope as I have in the past with other Popes. I truly do.

Kid, I can’t pick out a single comment I don’t disagree with or don’t admire how you put your point! Excellent. Yes, will they ban knives for all the MANY knife killings next?

AOW….you make a great point, too. Yes, let’s BOMB gun factories! I think he’s definitely reading too much Huffington Post, that’s for SURE! 🙂

EVERYBODY: I Heard KT MacFarland this morning talking about the profile of all 11 terrorists we’ve rounded up recently….I don’t remember exactly, but here was what she said “All 11 share a profile…well educated, use social media, have traveled to the middle east, lived here for some time.” I was looking at all 11 photos of the creeps and ALL OF THEM ARE ARABS, which can only lead us to think ALL OF THEM ARE MUSLIMS.
And even SHE didn’t mention that! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? IS KT AFRAID, TOO, of being NON PC?

  8. geeez2014 says:
Now he’s apologizing to an evangelical group for persecution by Catholics perpetrated apparently in the Middle Ages. Isn’t there some Statute of Limitations? The article states that “Francis decried how Christians over history committed atrocious acts of violence in the name of their faith.”

So, Muslims…take heart; the Pope admits Christians do it, too! Okay, you’re killing thousands of people NOW in the name of allah, but Christians have done it, too, ..OK, it’s hundreds of years ago, and they didn’t kill in the name of Jesus, because Jesus didn’t say to kill infidels, but…………

  9. Lisa says:

Why does it seem whenever we get “dictated” to ,it always seems directed not only towards America, but Americans in general. I believe he may be another “plant” as part of the NWO. I can’t even give him the benefit of the doubt by calling him stupid because I don’t believe he is.
The only people they seem to want to disarm are Americans. Isn’t there enough ,worse violence around the rest of the world to keep them occupied?
And I do not believe he would be that passionate about Global Warming if it didn’t involve
    Redistribution either.

  10. FB says:

I didn’t like this pope as soon as he started opening his mouth. He’s the typical socialist catholic that I’ve seen in my youth in France. The reason why I got turned off by the catholic church.

I’m sure he’s got good intentions and there’s some truth in what he says. However I expect spirituality from spiritual leaders and not lectures about material things. We have politicians for that.

As far a weapons, one can build weapon to get rid of evil in the world like Isis and this is a good thing obviously.

I’m reading the Bible almost every day now and I don’t need a pope anymore.

  11. Imp says:

    @Kid…”Planet of the Apes”?

I guess the Pope missed this point in human development? I’m surprised he’s embraced that sappy, dopey, 60’s mantra that the rest of the world failed to embrace outside of San Francisco? And I think Christians learned to stop laying down after their experiences and days in the Roman Coliseum? Or around the times of the Crusades. Mankind has been using their tools as weapons since the beginning of time and since Cain and Abel.

  12. Baysider says:

Maybe the Jews should have defended themselves with their guns. Oops, those are weapons. Double oops, they got them confiscated after Kristallnacht. (Senator Dodd modeled the 1968 act here after the Nazis’s gun control act, btw.)

I’m sorry to see the pope stoop to these hack worn tropes. Of course one can produce arms and be a Christian. I don’t believe one can traffick in them to irresponsible parties, though, and be a Christian. And THAT is the 2nd stage thinking the pope’s not engaging. For to disarm the ‘good’ guys is like handing arms to the bad guys.

  13. Imp says:

Most of the 3rd world hasn’t changed much since these days, has it?

  14. Kid says:

@IMP, This guy is spouting all the nonsense obama is spouting to a T. You think they talk ?

  15. Baysider says:

My mistake – I said Jews were disarmed after Kristallnacht. Just read SF’s link to National Review. It was before. That only makes sense, since Kristallnacht was planned by the government.

Re: clip. Yes – most of the 3rd world hasn’t changed much since then!

  16. I remember hearing the German Gestapo asking why the Jews weren’t fighting back but accepting their fate. This is what happens when an evil government wants to destroy an unarmed people or country. So who was able to come in and rid them of Hitler? Countries with weapons. LOTS of weapons. Sure, an ideal society would be one without ANY weapons whatsoever. No one. But we know that is wishful thinking, so I’ll stick with allowing good citizens to arm themselves to protect their families.
It reminds me of a decal I saw on the back window of a pickup that showed Smokey the Bear holding a rifle, and read “Defend you right to arm Bears”. I got a chuckle!

  17. Imp says:

@Bay: “Maybe the Jews should have defended themselves with their guns. Oops, those are weapons.”

The ones that learned that lesson are in Israel. But there’s Jews like Feinstein, Schumer or Debbie Wasserman that haven’t. And still want to disarm Americans. Of course they’re the ones who never had to walk a plank or climb onto a boxcar. ( Remember though Feinstein carries hers concealed…LOL )

  18. Imp says:

@Mal…I guess the pope chooses to ignore the goals of ISIS and all of Islam? Once again we don’t hear a condemnation of the real evil on the planet, do we? Is the pope afraid of criticizing and naming that evil like obama?

  19. geeez2014 says:

    All good comments, thanks….
    Mal, very cute decal!

Imp and Kid….not sure Obama speaks that language but he says exactly the same thing, I’m sure!

Baysider; no doubt; trafficking to irresponsible parties is just plain EVIL.

  20. geeez2014 says:

BIG HEADLINES on most homepages today about Billy Graham’s grandson who has admitted to adultery while being pastor of a very large church. Oh, wait till HuffPost gets a load of THAT one…articles for weeks will abound!
Tullian Tchividjian…tsk tsk tsk You gave such fodder to the secularists … what a fool

  21. Mustang says:
I too am not Catholic, but I have developed over many years a deep respect for priests who serve as combat chaplains. Some of these were Jesuits and some have acquitted themselves with great courage in the service of Jesus and our wounded and dying. These men were very different from the bureaucrats who exist in the Vatican. Whenever I run across someone who begins reciting revisionist history, I realize that this person is pursuing an agenda. Whether personal or political, it always benefits, or reinforces, what he or she believes. If this Pope is interested in talking about the failures of Christians to protect the Jews, he may want to begin that conversation with an explanation how Pope Pius VII received intelligence about the Holocaust, and yet did nothing. Well of course, Popes in the past have been happy to see Jews destroyed, so this was normal for the Vatican, but it is hardly a Christian behavior. It seems to me that there are actually two sides on the issue of firearms. On the right hand, there are gun owners —on the left, there are victims.

As for Billy Graham’s grandson, let someone who is without sin step forward to rebuke him.

  22. The following is a list of WEAPONS, past and current, used by the Pontifical Swiss Guards of the Vatican who protect this glorified hypocrite:

The sword worn by the Pontifical Swiss Guard
    Traditional arms[edit]
    Command baton
    Cuirass with spaulders

    Modern arms:

    SIG P220 pistols
Steyr Tactical Machine PistolSIG P220 (P75)
    Glock 19
    Steyr TMP
    Heckler & Koch MP5A3
    Heckler & Koch MP7A1
    SIG SG 550
    SIG SG 552

    Previously used weapons:
    Vetterli rifle (Retired from service)
    Mauser 98k (Retired from service)
    Dreyse M1907 (Retired from service)
    Suomi KP/-31 (Retired from service)
    SIG MKMS (Retired from service)
    Karabiner K31 (Maintained in inventory)

    Less-than-lethal weapons:

    Pepper spray
    Tear gas

    I rest my case.

  23. geeez2014 says:

Mustang; I see often here at GeeeZ that I’m more sensitive than most to many about the media treatment of Christianity (or Republicans, for that matter) so I deem him a fool anyway. You are so right that we all sin, but we’re not all in the limelight with vampires licking their chops waiting for the slightest transgression. Billy Graham’s grandson can do better than that, or keep it private…he should do better than that. I do admire his telling the truth.
That we are all sinners and have no right to rebuke is right…that we can discern is another story.I do agree with you on the Pope and the church’s history with Jews and on guns.

JB..”glorified hypocrite”….great list to show us there.
I’m reminded of Rosie O’Donnell coming out vehemently against guns but her body guards carry them. 🙂

  24. @ Imp. You’re right. The Pope HAS ignored ISIS and probably will continue to. He probably doesn’t want the Vatican attacked. As for Billy Graham’s grandsons confession, I remember when Jimmy Carter admitted in an interview to (I believe) Playboy Magazine that he had committed adultery when simply looking at a woman with lustful thoughts. I guess everyone’s idea of adultery is subjective.

  25. Bob says:

There goes that infallibility thing. I wonder why the Pope didn’t discuss the aiding and abetting the escape of Nazi criminals after World War II?

  26. Imp says:

OMG…first the Swaggart’s, then the Duggars…now a Graham? And now we know…they’re all human.

  27. geeez2014 says:

Imp: We knew they were human. Now the media has something even more to slam us with.

Bob….I think the Pope’s apologized for that, too. I think he’s a bigger apologist than Obama, and that takes some!

  28. geeez2014 says:

Bob, why can’t you write another blog post? It’s been since May 4 and you’re missed 🙂

  29. Sparky says:

This Godless piece of filth is a died in the wool Marxist, just like Obama. What does one expect? I asked the little hypocrite on Twitter, “What about all the GUNS that protect him?” I’m awaiting a reply.

  30. geeez2014 says:

Sparky, take a look at John Berger’s comment above….you’ll love that!

  31. Libertarian Theology.
I called it the day he was selected, but was told that he had fought the communists in Argentina.
Well, Hitler fought them in Germany. So what?
JBs remark on bombs was perfect.
All kinds of people call themselves Christians.
    So does this pope.

  32. geeez2014 says:

Ed, what is the guy saying in that video!? What is it! 🙂
And ya…JB’s remark on bombs nailed it, didn’t it.

  33. Bob says:

“Bob, why can’t you write another blog post?”

Well, uh, I’ve been kinda busy, like organizing my sock drawer, keeping my underwear drawer full of clean undergarments, and keeping my wife happy by doing the cooking.

OK. I promise to stop watching Netflix until 3:00 AM, and doing something constructive and creative.

    Thanks, Z, for the encouragement.

  34. Imp says:

@Z..”The article states that “Francis decried how Christians over history committed atrocious acts of violence in the name of their faith.”

Damn..Kid’s right and spot on. The dopey pope has been talking to Ovomit. Next on his list will be damning his predecessors for daring to defeat Isliame. I’m still waiting for Ovomit to call George Washington a scurrilous white, slave owning oppressor. And he needs to be taken off the $1 bill and replaced with Bill Ayers. Or his wife…Dorkman?

  35. I’m sure that Pope Francis believes that the weapons protecting him receive a special dispensation. After all, he is the Pope and the rules do not apply to him! Pfffft.

  36. Kid says:

IMP, Thanks. Who in their right mind – In This Current Environment – is going to criticize non-moslems for what happened hundreds of years ago. They burned women at the stake in Englad too hundreds of years ago. It matters not to current environment humans. What does matter is ISIS running around cutting heads of off little girls, and taking 5 yr old boys and putting them in a cage, starving then urning them alive, or nailing Christian girls to a cross. Someone, many thousands or millions of someones need to send this shit for brains pope a letter. Maybe mine will be the first.

  37. Imp,
Next on his list will be damning his predecessors for daring to defeat Isliame.

I am surprised that he hasn’t already so stated.

  38. Kid says:

AOW, The rules never apply to libtards. Ever.

  39. Kid,
Absolutely spot on with your comment @ June 22, 2015 at 6:12 am!

The “head of Christendom” is a disgrace.

  40. Kid says:

AOW, Thanks. Sometimes things get serious enough to get me running on all cylinders. 🙂

  41. geeez2014 says:

No Christian ever killed any non Christian in the legitimate name of Jesus….Muslims only kill in the name of their God… BIG difference. Christians who did kill ‘in their faith’s name’ didn’t know their faith…nowhere does it say to kill innocent people. Nowhere.

(now you write me back and say GET PAINTING!)

AOW…Like I said above “Rosie O’Donnell screeches about guns and yet her body guards have them!” 🙂

Kid and Imp…great stuff here, thanks!

  42. Kid says:

Z, Christians and anyone else who fought moslems such as the early Sicily Mafia did it in Defense, not offense, so the whole comment from obama and his shadow the pope is bullshit.

  43. geeez2014 says:

kid…right..It’s like blaming the Crusades on Christians when what they were doing was trying to ward off the Muslims who’d taken over Christian places……… we go AGAIN!

mr. Z and I were in Vienna in what they call a’s a horse and carriage, and we were having a sort of tour around a part of the city…we drove by a big statue of PRINCE EUGIN and he’s apparently the Austrian who saved Austria from Muslims YEARS ago….the guy was telling us that history, then he said “But, they’re baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack” I swear. And that was 15 years ago..>BROTHER,are the muslim back.

  44. Maybe the Aussies (Austrians, in this case!) need to resurrect Prince Eugin so he can save them again, huh, Z? How did the entire world get so P.C?

  45. cube says:

I was raised a Roman Catholic and I can’t tell you how ashamed it makes me feel
that, at this time when so many Catholics could use a clear thinking leader, we have this man as pope. His positions are very disheartening to me on many levels.
