Most of you probably didn’t hear the speech…you won’t listen to Obama, you can’t look at Obama, you’re at work, you were busy, etc. etc.
I have it on in the other room right now…..again, he’s witheringly insulting to anybody not agreeing with him……..I’m typing as I hear him and wish I could have got more in here but…..here’s an overview of the last 20 minutes, anyway:
He says the “Iranian hard liners are making common cause with the Republican caucus” to a huge applause and laughter from the audience at American University.
“Reagan and Kennedy’s deals with Russia involved significant restraints on our arsenal”….
“Our military remains the ultimate backstop to any deal we make”
The arguments against this deal are “knee jerk partisanship…”
“I have been a stalwart friend of Israel throughout my career..” “No one can blame Israelis for having deep skepticism about Iranians who deny the holocaust…..facilitate the flow of rockets that rain on Israel” “In such a dangerous neighborhood, Israel has to be diligent….so we have to take seriously concerns in Israel…” “I’ve done more than any other president to strengthen Israel’s security…”
He has “yet to hear one better deal than his… and I’ve asked for them..”
“It’s easy to play on peoples’ fears and magnify threats……..but these arguments don’t hold up.”
There are people who “have no compunction with being repeatedly wrong……” (Republicans)
He quoted Reagan and JFK about threats and how diplomacy is always better……
I believe he actually thinks that the world situation with Iran is similar to what Reagan or JFK confronted…….that’s scary in itself.
“We live in a complicated world…….a world of persistent threats……violence, cruelty is often common…..the USA remains the most powerful nation on earth but we are one nation among many and what separates us and makes us exceptional isn’t the mere fact of military might, we have used our power to bind countries together…….”
If congress kills this deal….”we will have lost something precious…”
Watch FOX on this…..they’ll display the ironies and insults by the president better than I can here.
