REPUBLICAN DEBATES

fox debate

Are you going to watch the Fox debates tonight,  and will you watch BOTH the “Happy Hour Debate” at 5 EST and the “TOP CONTENDERS’ DEBATE” at 9 EST?

What do you think will happen?  How will Trump act?  Who will come out ahead?

And what do you think of the rumors that Clinton and Trump spoke just before Trump announced his candidacy?

  1. John M. Berger says:

I tried to get into the Trump/Clinton article but it was blocked. Yeah, I’d like to know more about that and exactly when and why did Trump switch parties/philosophy. I know why Reagan did but not this guy.

  2. Lisa says:

def watching both. Not sure how Trump will do but I am sure he will hold his own. Looking forward to Ben Carson and Carly Fiorna

  3. Lisa says:

I just heard last night bout the Trump/Clinton conversation. I don’t get that one at all

  4. Mr. AOW and I are going to watch both rounds — the early one and the later one.

It would suit me just fine to see Jeb Bush disgraced tonight. I can’t stand him!

what do you think of the rumors that Clinton and Trump spoke just before Trump announced his candidacy?

I have no opinion on that. It’s hard to discern what the truth is about much of anything political these days.

However, I did spot this headline at the Daily Beast: “Hillary Clinton’s Mega-Donors Are Also Funding Jeb Bush: Racetrack owners, bankers, and chicken kings: Meet the ultra-rich bankrolling the Bush and Clinton dynasties.”

  5. Mal Telloian says:

I had trouble loading this one also, John. We definitely are going to watch BOTH episodes. Our Thursday Night group that usually get together at our local pub for dinner have cancelled to watch, also. (They all hate Obummer!). I believe Trump will be Dominating Donald but be very civil. He keeps saying he isn’t an orator, but you can’t be where he is without having speaking skills. He keeps getting stronger in the polls. As to any conversation or meeting with Hillary, I haven’t heard anything about that.

  6. geeez2014 says:

That link opens for me; maybe people can just Google TRUMP TALKS TO CLINTON and you’ll get an article on it….sorry about that.
Mal, the conversation was a phone conv. between Bill and Trump….supposedly urging Trump to run (why not? It totally throws the Republicans into disarray and pads Trump’s ego)…

AOW, I agree; we can’t know what was said and political theater is already beginning to tire us all and we have more than a year to go of it only getting more intense.
I find myself turning the news off lately; very unusual for me…but I think we all feel so ‘played’ lately…

Lisa, I’m definitely watching both, too, but friends are arriving for a mtg at 7:30, which means I’ll miss a half hour AND the fun after-play on FOX, darn. They’ll show it throughout the night, probably, so I’ll watch later.

JMB: It’s funny to watch the Left and how Trump’s similar to Reagan! You’re right…we know that Reagan REALLY turned toward the Right because he was sincere and humble.
I don’t believe Trump has; he’s just spewing tough talk and I think we ALL want someone to do that. Now if he could weasel out of all the leftwing things he’s done in the past… but I don’t see how. And, he’s not got the humility to ever say he was wrong on anything, soo..

    should be interesting!!

  7. Sparky says:

I’m almost 60 and remember all The Donald excapades. I don’t how Donald performs. He’s a democrat, that’s why he’s only attacking Republicans (not that they don’t deserve it). He’s also a Clinton supporter, both financially and mentally. Therefore, he will not have my vote. Jeb Bush and Chris Christie are Socialist too. All the others seem OK. We’ll see. I wasn’t going to watch the Debate but might tune in. This is so important for our country. I just pray they don’t attack each other. Instead they need to talk about how they’re going to get us back to the Constitution and get rid of everything Hussein has done. I know you’re doing it already but please keep praying for good leadership, whomever that may be. Thanks.

  8. Mal Telloian says:

You know, Sparky, I understand how you feel about Donald flipping from party to party, but given what we now have, I will still support him because he is NOT a politician who is just waiting to pad his pockets from Lobbyists. He has said he not only doesn’t need or want their money, he wants to change the way business is done in DC by ridding them of Lobbyists completely once and for all.
He is saying the right things and connecting with the common people. Heck! Even if he ran as a Democrat, I might consider voting for him, and that is quite a thing for me to say; however, it would run contrary to their belief so it wouldn’t be possible.

  9. bocopro says:

No intention whatever of watching truncated, distilled, rehearsed mantrachants. The election isn’t for another 15 months. Left to me, no political campaigning would be permitted until 60 days before polls open anyway, and early balloting would be punishable by castration, or deportation to Fugawestan.

American elections are undisguised popularity contests, and anyone who would willingly seek the PotUSy has to be deranged, so unless they come in wielding sabers or rapiers, I’m not interested.

FWIW, we’ll get more meaningful, mature, reasonable statements from Carson and Fiorina than from all the rest combined. I like watching the SuperBowl commercials, but I despise having to suffer through the insipid commentary of ex-jocks in the broadcast booth as they attempt to make a drawn-out steroid-fueled stop-and-go ritual interesting.

I wait ’til the next day when I can watch ’em at my leisure and replay if I like what I see. And that’s what I’ll do with The Candidate Show. I most certainly will not perch on the edge of my seat in anticipation for Krauthammer or Baier or Kelly or anybody else to tell me what I SHOULD have heard or SHOULD have seen or SHOULD be thinking.

  10. Silverlady says:

The Donald inherited over 25,000 properties from his father, seems mostly to practice nepotism in hiring children for the highest positions, & still has the casino because, so I have understood, too much debt for the lender(s) to want to take it over. I’m concerned that he will be throwing stinkbombs tonight, but hope not.

I did hear that the Dem-rats are planning to do something while the debates are in progress. I put nothing past them, as I remember during one of the Romney/Bampot debates checking out PMSNBC, & they were showing a sideline with vicious comments.

  11. geeez2014 says:

bocopro, maybe you’re lucky you’re not quite as CURIOUS as we are!

Silverlady; ya, the Clinton campaign’s apparently going to be doing something during the debates. You can bet they’ll be fact checking as fast as possible and Tweeting..

Sort of like what I heard last night on MSNBC, when the interviewer asked a Black journalist how the Right can possibly say crime’s up when stats show otherwise. I HONESTLY broke into laughter at the utter STUPIDITY of that remark because the crime rates in our big cities have gone SO FAR UP since Ferguson and Chicago and Baltimore in the last few months mostly because cops are scared to death to maintain safety….
Sure, they used old ‘general’ stats but apparently haven’t been LISTENING to the NEW news.
That’s the kind of fact check I’m sure they’ll use…utterly specious, self-serving and nasty.
    Wait for it

Is Jeb egging Trump on, having done this just before the debates?
    hmmmmmm

  13. geeez2014 says:

I’m sorry but Gov Perry is such a ……weakling

  14. Rita says:

Fiorina was really good. I’m hoping Trump won’t be a bomb in the room. I don’t think he could possibly be a good President. I’m really watching Ben Carson and Marco Rubio. Hoping that the next debate doesn’t attack the other candidates. It was like the first debaters had all agreed not to attack each other.

I’d really like to get a non-politician in the office. And one who is not so egotistic that they don’t understand that they need good politically savvy support.

  15. geeez2014 says:

I thought CARLY WON this one, too.
And everybody on FOX is saying she blew it away……..Man, she is SMART and tough and VERY VERY articulate.
She seemed , by far, the least nervous.

Brit Hume was just saying that it doesn’t matter that most folks probably were just getting home and didn’t see this debate…that they hear FIORINA WON is the clincher for her.

I’ll definitely be watching Carson and Rubio… and Walker; I like him but need to see him REALLY IN GEAR.

Trump; let’s see what happens tonight.

  16. Rita says:

I just want Trump to shut up. Yeah, he may be bringing up some good points but his demeanor will never get him elected. He’s a clown.

  17. No question in my mind: overall, Fiorina excelled in the first event.

One clever and spot-on comment from Rick Perry: “I’d much rather have had Carly Fiorina over there negotiating with Iran than John Kerry!”

  18. Before somebody leaps to inform me….Yes, I’m aware of her stupid statements about Islam in September 2001. I’d love a few face-to-face moments with her to see what she thinks now. I hope that she’s done some research and wised up about the so-called Golden Age of Islam.

  19. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again:

I’d pay good money to see Carly Fiorina debate Hillary Clinton!

  20. Ive almost resolved not to comment after bocopro because it would just be an echo.

AOW: + on Fiorina/Hillary, but the price would be Walker not running 🙂
That might not be horrible if Fiorina can better win.

  21. Megan Kelly needs to shut up.
    Is this “America’s Got Candidates”?
A little dignity would be more appropriate.

  22. geeez2014 says:

Imp; Trump has 38% on that Drudge poll…….We’re doomed.

  23. geeez2014 says:

I’d love to hear ONE Democratic interview or debate where interviewers asked 1/3 as difficult questions of the candidates. NEVER EVER HAPPEN.

We really do eat our young. I see it’s important to question but these all REALLY put them on the spot without enough time to really explain situations….

  24. FB says:

My biggest take of the debate: Fox News is in the tank of the establishment and they are a bunch of phonies. Wallace and Kelly almost sounded like CNN hosts asking questions.
Rubio has officially become a phony as well.

  25. FB says:

My favorite: Carson, Trump and Kasich. The rest of them are just well coached politicians who can’t be themselves. Tired of phonies.

  26. FB says:

A Trump vs Clinton would also be a blast and major spectacle. He gave money to her, she went to his wedding. Maybe that’s what America needs to wake up about our corrupt system.

  27. geeez2014 says:

FB….will blog this tomorrow; I hope you come back and give your issues….

Ed, for the life of me, I don’t see how Kelly was anything but smart and gracious.
How was she undignified? I didn’t get to see all of it, so maybe I missed something?

AOW: Would LOVE to see Hill vs Carly…WOW

  28. She toned it down after about 9:05, but for the first 15 minutes, it was very undignified, forcing these guys, as they entered, to look as if they were on the Dating Game or Family Feud.
After that, it was The Trump Show.

  29. John M. Berger says:

Although Kasich didn’t over excite me last night he is still one of my favorites given his performance in the basket-case known as Ohio and previous fiscal accomplishments in the House. I’m energized by Rubio. Fiorina; I know some that think that she stole the show but what of her performance at HP? We have a long way to go but in the final analysis two things must be in place: sincerity and the ability to defeat the Democrat contender. Without such all else is moot!

  30. Mal Telloian says:

    Absolutely right, John!
