Your behavior and the government……..

HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT THIS???  Check out these lines from the linked article!:

“A new executive order from President Obama directs all government agencies to use psychological science and data to help connect more Americans to government programs.

The order instructs government agencies to use “behavioral science”— a tactic used by Obama’s political campaigns to harness data from their supporters to target them effectively.”

Our friend Ray Cole emailed this to me and I think his comment with the link was correct:  “This just sounds so wrong.”    Of course, if you’re into mind control and big government, this suits you fine, but………….

What do YOU think???

Z (thanks, Ray)

    Nothing new here, Z.

It’s not mind control, it’s just marketing. Red sports cars sell better by nearly two to one over any other color. So what color are most sports cars by all manufacturers? Red. Who knew?

What level of grocery shelf do shoppers look at when browsing for goodies at the Piggly Wiggly? Eye level. They don’t look up or down at first. What spots on the grocer’s shelves do you find Kellogg’s cereal, vs the store brand? Eye level, of course.

Using psychology to sell stuff has been around forever. Obama is no different than anybody else trying to get the message out. Nothing nefarious here, Z.

    Good try, though.

  2. bocopro says:

Every time Soetoro thinks, he weakens the nation.

  3. cube says:

And then there’s the subliminal stuff they’re using on us, too. Free will is just an illusion.

  4. bunkerville says:

If Fredd thinks it is just about marketing, he is naive. We are on the same page today, and I have a clip that as I say should chill the marrow of our bones. Cass Sunstein is one nasty man. The Goebel of our time.

  5. alec says:

Fredd, it’s not easy to accept, but marketing is deeply related to mental conditioning. Terms like “mind control” make you think of Manchurian Candidate assassins and disregard the more common (and dangerous to freedom) applications. A little study on Edward Bernays (the son-in-law of Sigmund Freud) and the history of public relations will open up this whole sordid world and how it has influenced the course of the 20th Century, and now the 21st.

I wish “it’s only marketing” comforted me.

  6. alec says:

Bernays was the nephew of Freud, not the son-in-law. Apologies.

  7. The goverment has been marketing its services for years.
They’re called PSAs and there on the radio all the time.
    Even conservative stations.

  8. John M. Berger says:

“President Obama directs all government agencies to use psychological science and data to help connect more Americans to government programs.”

Well, that should work nicely on a society seemingly incapable of rational, independent thought!

  9. silverfiddle says:

As Fredd said, it is marketing, but it is also psychological conditioning. The Spanish language has it right and uses the word “propaganda” for “advertisement.”

    Go google “sunstein nudge”

There is an art to getting you to make the choice they want you to choose, while you believe it was all your idea.

  10. Mustang says:

To give credit where due, one has to admit that forcibly taking one quarter (or more) of your income in taxes and using that against you in order to obtain even more swag, calling brainwashing programs “education” to prepare children for the onslaught of Big Brother Maxims, is quite genius. What it comes down to is this: all America has left is the Second Amendment —which is why the left is so keenly focused on it.

  11. geeez2014 says:

    fredd: “good try?” By ME?

    bocopro…good thinking!

    Cube…that’s what I think, too.

bunkerville….Sunstein; can’t wait to see what he’s up to. He’s awful, yes.

Alec..thanks, it doesn’t comfort me any, either.

Ed, I think this is a little more than that. And I cringe when I hear it on the radio, too. “Come sign up!” Oh, sure…got to get those freebies…and make us dependent.

    John…right!

Silverfiddle; glad you agree….this is a touch beyond…

Mustang; that’s a horrible thought!! I wish it weren’t so true!!!

THIS IS ABOUT GETTING MORE AND MORE PEOPLE ON THE GOVERNMENT ‘PAYROLLS’…..PULLING MORE AND MORE TO THE GOODIES, TO FEEL ENTITLED, JUST IN CASE THEY MISSED SOMETHING…PAVING THE WAY FOR BIGGER AND BIGGER GOVERNMENT.

OF COURSE THIS TYPE OF SCIENCE IS USED BY BUSINESSES……WE HAVE CHOICES IN BUSINESS.
IN GOVERNMENT, THOSE LOOKING FOR GOODIES CAN NOW FIND THEM EASIER …. THOSE WHO AREN’T ARE LURED, PERHAPS SUBLIMINALLY…BUT LURED NONETHLESS.

  12. Kid says:

The government wants people dependent and stupid. Just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork.

  13. John M. Berger says:

    @Kid,
If our “government” truly reflects ‘the will of the people’ then we have reached the point where the “people” are now content to be “dependent and stupid”! MOO, BAH, OINK, COCK-A-DOODLE DOO……………………………………………………………………………………………….

  14. Kid says:

JMB, I’d say that’s true of everyone not in the silent majority. Like the ones who answer the phone at home during working hours that result in obama having a 44% approval rating.

  15. baysider says:

Yes, it IS marketing. But WHY are we MARKETING to get people into more government programs? That IS nefarious. Kid + 1. As SF points out it is conditioning our minds to just accept more and more from the government instead of ourselves and locally based, private institutions where we help each other. Can you spell D-E-P-E-N-D-E-N-C-Y? Again, per Charles Murray, we are Coming Apart. THIS is one of his examples. Good one.

  16. geeez2014 says:

Baysider…exactly my sentiment: As I said in my comment above “IN GOVERNMENT, THOSE LOOKING FOR GOODIES CAN NOW FIND THEM EASIER …. THOSE WHO AREN’T ARE LURED, PERHAPS SUBLIMINALLY…BUT LURED NONETHLESS.”
What would our forefathers think? my gosh.

Kid….I love your point about those at home 🙂
And your comment about “just smart enough to run the machines” immediately brought SLAVERY IN THE FIELDS to my mind…weird, huh? I immediately saw people working in the fields, their masters only happy they were smart enough to do THAT, at least.
    That’s us.

    JMB: ANIMAL FARM!?

  17. Mal says:

…………..and there is still too much time left before “O” leaves office. Just look at how much more damage can and will be inflicted! Keep that in mind tonight while we are watching the debates to see if anyone addresses that.

  18. Mustang says:

    Conditioning = Jade Helm.

  19. baysider says:

Good point Mustang. If we had a situation room map with all ‘issues’ posted and connected where appropriate we’d realize we are in very deep caca.

  20. baysider says:

Here’s a variation on the theme: Santa Monica Considers Gas Warning Labels
That would be a plan to label gas station pumps in the city with warnings about climate change. (I’m not making it up: http://www.surfsantamonica.com/ssm_site/the_lookout/news/News-2015/Sept-2015/09_16_2015_Santa_Monica_Considers_Gas_Warning_Labels.html)

In the Old Testament the Lord commanded the Israelis to keep his commands before them at all times, on their doorpost, frontlets on their foreheads, on their arms and teaching their children. We know that’s so you are well indoctrinated and don’t wander off the plantation. This federal plan does it with dependency. The Soviet Monica plan just wants to make sure you see their faulty environmental message everywhere and stay on the green plantation.

  21. Kid says:

Bay, THere is a restaurant that has a sing on its paper dispenser in the rest rooms. In green lettering including a drawing of trees it says “Please remember where these come from”. And I do – they come from trees specifically grown to make paper. We actually have more trees because of paper…

@Mustang – We need to work on a situation room map. 🙂

  22. baysider says:

Kid, you need your own sticker to add on!
    https://www.stickermule.com/custom-stickers

  23. Kid says:

    Oh, that’s cool, bookmarked !

  24. geeez2014 says:

“Mustang – We need to work on a situation room map.”

    absolutely should

  25. geeez2014 says:

Re STICKERMULE, maybe we should tweak one of the mules’ legs as if it’s KICKING Obama and text it “KICK ASS!”
    Heh

  26. Kid says:

    Or Kick An Ass

  27. We don’t need a situation room.
    We need a War Room.

  28. geeez2014 says:

Kid, ya, but the expression is KICK ASS! 🙂 Kick AN ass is EXACTLY what I meant…you are SO RIGHT! 🙂

    Ed…BUT WE’RE BLOGGING INSTEAD 😦

  29. Kid says:

Z, yes, mine was meant as an alternate not a correction.

OT- so when is obama going to invite a white kid to the white house?

  30. fredd says:

A word on marketing. We all use it. For any number of reasons. Some use it for good (Public Service Announcements, for what they are worth), and some use it for evil (ISIS markets their message to numb nut screwballs).

When I said that Obama was using marketing, and that his use of it was not nefarious, of course I meant that he can certainly use any method of getting out his message, and the technique of marketing is by itself not nefarious.

Now, OBAMA and HIS MESSAGE, taken on their own merits, of course everything that comes out of his mouth is suspect, and likely nefarious to some extent.

Alec says I am naive. Not even. I think we simply disagree on semantics. Marketing can be used by angels or devils. It’s just marketing, a persuasion technique. You get more flies using honey rather than vinegar, right? That cute little metaphor sums up the concept of marketing.

If you assume by my comment above that I am in Obama’s corner, you are naive. I hate the guy’s guts. But he certainly has a right to use whatever techniques are available to spread his putrid word.

  31. geeez2014 says:

Kid, i Know it wasn’t a correction….. I wish emails and comments contained a little personality or nuance sometimes, don’t you?

fredd; I totally get that….the implications of his ‘messaging’ are nefarious, aren’t they….this comment clarifies your thoughts, thanks. As I’d said above, it’s WHAT is happening DUE to that messaging that REALLY IRKS ME.
And I don’t believe ANYBODY thinks YOU of all people are in HIS CORNER but I’m glad you clarified that, too!!!

  32. geeez2014 says:

I had no idea there was a second tier debate that just finished till now. Man, as much as I watch/hear, you’d think I’d have known.

Anybody want to weigh in? I’m going to start a post on which we can all comment during or after the debate right now.
