I’m running this post from yesterday because I’d like to get more input. Thanks..
I watched most of Obama’s talk just now about the horrible Oregon shootings that happened today.
It was rather puzzling because he talks like there are no gun laws. Am I missing something? Some of the things he said were:
-We have to change the gun laws
-Congress won’t even let his administration gather data on gun violence
-The media hypes terrorism gun problems; the math shows we should be more concerned about guns
-Gun owners ought to question if “that organization” really speaks for them (the NRA, clearly)
-Vote anti-gun…we should vote for people who are anti-gun
-“They” (Republicans, the NRA, etc., apparently?) will say we need less gun control.
Many questions came to my mind.
-Who exactly is it who says we need less gun control?
-What laws need to be changed? Don’t we have background check laws?
CNN and MSNBC news readers were so sad and touched by Obama’s having shown he was ‘visibly shaken’ and ‘speaking extemporaneously’….so angry and sorry for the families. Obama did say that “Each times this happens, I will say all of this again!” (what a threat)

So, tell me……what’s he want? Who are the Republicans who won’t even allow data gathering?
He mentioned how the media veers toward scaring us about terrorism more than they do about awful attacks like this……another question came to mind when I read a Tweet from that school this afternoon: (One witness says no words were exchanged but there were two classrooms so she may not have heard this):
The name of the dead killer hasn’t been released as of this typing………I find that odd, particularly coupled with the information just above…….”are you Christians?” BAM!
but, don’t let’s talk TERROR in the media………..

Well . . . just exactly why was the shooter in a gun-free zone WITH A GUN!!!!!!
I mean, it’s a college, right? Shouldn’t he be able to read the signs? If there’s a law against carrying a firearm, and very likely at least one or two prohibiting shooting people who aren’t in great need of a good deal of being shot, then how on earth could this happen!
Hey, if we have laws prohibiting minors from consuming liquor, and laws prohibiting driving while intoxicated, and laws prohibiting purchase/sale/use of harsh narcotics and those are all working just fine, then why don’t we have more restrictive laws concerning ownership and carrying of firearms?
What? We do?? Chicago has some of the toughest gun-control laws in the country but one of the highest murder rates?

Once more…the facts and the reasons for this type of carnage are clear:
Eight attacks with firearms in gun free zones in the last eight years resulted in the lost of 105 lives and the wounding of 150 others. Those attacks were on the Lafayette Grand Theater (July 23), Chattanooga (July 16), Fort Hood (April 2, 2014), DC Navy Yard (September 16, 2013), Sandy Hook Elementary (December 14, 2012), Aurora movie theater (July 12, 2012), Fort Hood (November 5, 2009), and Virginia Tech (April 16, 2007)
Since the shooter was 20….he didn’t have, again, a legal right to the gun, did he?
Gun “free” zones are the danger to those who can’t or won’t be allowed to defend or arms themselves. Blame Guns? Nah…blame kumquats, unicorn, tofu eating , tree hugging liberal loons. Had there been a right to carry today on this campus…maybe once again, many would have been spared. 26 states allow campus carry, as they should. Oregon’s loons brought this on themselves.

The gunman who opened fire at an Oregon community college was forcing people to stand up and state their religion before he began blasting away at them, survivors said Thursday.
A woman who claimed to have a grandmother inside a writing class in Snyder Hall, where a portion the massacre unfolded, described the scene in a tweet.
“The shooter was lining people up and asking if they were Christian,” she wrote. “If they said yes, then they were shot in the head. If they said no, or didn’t answer, they were shot in the legs. My grandma just got to my house, and she was in the room. She wasn’t shot, but she is very upset.

This might not be popular with everyone, but I say let’s NOT announce the name, or the race, or the religion, or anything about the shooter. Why give him the airtime, the notoriety, the attention he was looking for?
What I’d like to see is a brief announcement like this: “Today a lunatic a$$—- went ape—- on a community college campus in Oregon. After shooting several people, he was himself shot by local LEOs and then taken to a farm outside of town where he was fed to the hogs.”
Nothing to see here . . . move along.

Over 30,000 deaths by car per year in the US. Homicides (gun or not) are around a third of that. So conclusion: cars need to be banned.

I believe most REASONABLE” people no longer take “O” at his word when he quotes stats. Besides, its been all over the news how Chicago and Detroit are the crime capitals of the U.S. which makes him look even MORE stupid. I just wish there could have been someone there to challenge him and his remarks. Hey! Why don’t we get one of the crazies to go do him in? The guy would become an instant hero AND prove guns can do good things, also! 🙂

O’Reilly has been outraged and asking everybody he’s interviewed in law enforcement how weird it is they haven’t announced the perp’s name….he even HAS the name but didn’t want to run with it until it was announced. Well, if it’s John Doe…whatever. I just doubt any John Doe would ask Christians to stand up and blow their brains out…injuring in the legs those who don’t admit to being Christians.

I WISH some of you would answer some of my questions in my post, however………..don’t we HAVE gun laws? And some of you have mentioned , and it’s true, that Chicago has some of THE strongest gun laws and SO many deaths! Obama’s apparently too stupid to understand that.
HONESTLY, there are times like this when I think these murders are done by the gov’t in order to get guns banned….and I KNOW I’m being nuts, but the amount of them lately is incredible…why SUCH an onslaught in SUCH a relatively short time in American history, other than the fact that leftwingers have destroyed the morals and our culture?

All the data Presidente Zero is whining about is collected and maintained by the FBI. I do think states and jurisdictions have the right not to provide the data the FBI is asking for, but what is provided is sufficient nationwide to form several logical conclusions about gun violence. Gun laws already exist in Oregon (a Democratic State) and they did not prevent this incident. Someone in the classroom who was armed might have saved lives. So the way I see this is, the state of Oregon is as much guilty for what happened as the hog-bait Moslem. My guess is that every time one of these events happens, Zero whispers, “Allah Snackbar.”

“Joe Olson–the former president of Umpqua Community College–says the school only keeps one guard on shift at a time and that guard is unarmed.
Olson left his position in June. He says one of the biggest debates at the school in 2014 was whether or not to hire armed officers.
On November 5, 2014 a campus communique said the Umpqua Community College community was “split 50-50″ on what to do. According to the Associated Press, Olson presumes the October 1 attack will reignite the discussion not only for Umpqua Community College but for community colleges around the country.

A responsible school administration, having already noted that this sort of thing has happened in the past, would have policy and procedures in place, and it would be rehearsed until everyone knew exactly what must happen should such an incident occur. Olson killed those people … what debate is there when human lives are at stake? He had a duty, he abrogated his responsibilities, he should be held culpable.

I’m sorry we even need to have people armed in classrooms; it says a lot about the psyche of America today. Until 30 years ago, who’d have ever thought any nut would shut kids in classrooms? This isn’t about guns at ALL….people have always had guns to hunt with, or parents had guns somewhere kids knew about, etc etc……this is about SICKNESS in our morality, the thought that killing people is okay, that they somehow deserve it.
Never tell ME that this isn’t from schooling these days…..these poor kids aren’t even taught to love their country anymore; Imagine kids not feeling safe and secure and proud of their country like we did until lately? That’s a sickness and leads to all kinds of things; suicide, drugs, big-time tattoos, untamed sexuality, not even knowing what gender they are..etc etc.
I heard today that some mother surprised her dear 10 year old (I think he’s 10 or 11) with ESTROGEN so he can take it and then be a girl, like he wants to be….that’s the new America

This shooting occurred about an hour away from where I grew up. Very rural, wooded, lots of hunting going on out there. People in that part of the country have about 10 guns per household. They’ve been armed to the teeth like this in that part of the country since Lewis and Clark trod the soil out thataway.
Barry thinks he is going to take away all those guns? Or, that by passing some dumb ass laws restricting additional gun access, that all of those guns currently in all of those hands will somehow become irrelevant?
Why is it that this didn’t happen 100 years ago? Same ratio of guns per citizen has been the norm forever out there. And now, Barry wants to fix things.
One more point: 10 deaths at the hands of a madman Islamic terrorist in Roseburg Oregon (just wait, the guy’s name is Mustaffa, Mohammed, Ali, or something like that), and Barry takes to the stump bad mouthing the Second Amendment. 10 deaths just a few miles from his house in Chicago, aw shucks, that ain’t nothin’ but a normal weekend death toll in Barry’s old stomping grounds, and you can’t have a gun by law in Chicago.

I’m no fan of Bill O’Reilly, but I loved his tirade last night — his tirade about Obama’s gun speech yesterday.
Those of you who know me know that I abandoned grading essays last night and started doing research about the murderer as soon as his name was revealed. And, lo, I learned that he “graduated” from the Switzer Learning Center in Torrance, California. He “graduated” because he aged out at age 21. What does that tell us? Hmmmmm?
A few years ago, I had a student much like the Oregon murderer. You don’t want to know what this former student has recently done. His “educational” and social histories closely parallel the history of the Oregon murderer as this former student devolves. The parents don’t know what to do!

The number of foreign-born people employed in the U.S. increased again last month while the number of employed native-born Americans declined, according to new data released Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
According to the not seasonally adjusted BLS numbers, in September 24,928,000 foreign-born people were employed in the U.S., growing by 14,000 jobs compared to August when 24,914,000 foreign-born people were employed.
Native-born Americans, meanwhile, experienced a loss in jobs, declining 262,000 from August’s level of 124,314,000 to 124,052,000 employed native-born people in September.
Since the start of the recession in December of 2007, the foreign-born population has outpaced the native born population in net job growth.

It also boils down to how easily we let people in today when compared to 100 years ago. When my dad came here via Ellis Island in 1915 they had to have a sponsor to assure them not being a burden to the U.S., pass a physical, speak English, and if they didn’t, take night classes to learn our language and American History. My dad had learned 3 languages including English before coming but his dad didn’t and had to attend evening classes. I remember my Grandfather telling me later during the Great Depression that if I learned to speak Armenian, he would give me .50 cents a week, and I told him if he learned to speak English, I would give him a dollar! My dad laughed.

Mal, about immigration; most of us are from immigrant families and what I think leftwingers have never wanted to realize is that many of these immigrants aren’t America-loving, appreciative people who can’t wait to learn the language and assimilate and are so PROUD, so unbelievably proud, to be here…and can’t wait to become Americans.
This new crop the last 30 years or so mostly just wants to be here for freebies, and shoving their way to jobs Americans can’t get anymore (all construction types of business, gardening, cleaning, grocery store clerks, fast food shops, etc etc etc) ….
PLEASE nobody think I don’t realize a lot of good immigrants do come for better opportunity and DO learn English and are fabulous people…just fabulous!, but……….
we cannot treat the new immigrants as we treated those we knew loved this country…it’s stupid and dangerous. So sad.

I can guarantee you that if he knew that in right-to-carry-Oregon that the campus had a lot of people trained and well armed with concealed weapons very few incidents like this would happen. If any. there’s a reason they pick schools, as Mustang noted – soft targets. Duh
