Two LIES…………

lie

“Our culture has accepted two lies.  The first is that if you disagree with someone’s lifestyle, you must fear or hate them.  The second is that to love someone means you agree with everything they believe or do.   You don’t have to compromise convictions to be compassionate.”

-Rick Warren

Do you see a connection with this statement and political correctness?  Let’s talk about this…….

  1. Two Truths concerning love
A: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
B: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained

Gee, I can you can do both.

Hmph! I welcome various life styles, so long as they’re tolerant of mine and have something interesting to offer.

The woman I’ve spent over half a century with has customs and habits and traditions completely different from those of the culture that raised me. She eats things I can’t get past my nose, she believes that her favorite saints watch out for her safety and well being, she enjoys TV shows which I find fatally boring and self-repetitive, and although she’s an animal lover, she likes those damned little push-faced yap-yap dogs that I have absolutely no use for. And cats, too. She likes cats, whose purpose I just can’t see.

But I sure’s hell wouldn’t wanna live with a woman who agreed with me on everything all the time. THAT would be even more fatally boring. I say “Vive le difference!” but just don’t get all up in my face with it and tell me that my way is wronger than yours.

Read somewhere recently from a man wiser than I am that he never learned anything new from people who always agree with his point of view.

As for lies, we all tell ’em. And some are good little white lies that soften harsh reality. We lie to children about Santa Claus and we lie to our doctors about our eating habits. We lie to the IRS when we think we can get away with it, and the gubmint DAMNED sure lies to us, and frankly there are issues they have to deal with that I really don’t want to know the whole truth about.

But I never lied about being shot at in Bosnia, or having turned over all my e-mails to proper authority upon leaving high public office, or being dead broke during a period when my partner and I raked in 8-figure incomes.

I will say, tho, in all honesty, that the older I get the better I used to be.

  4. I stumbled upon a blog post about using the phrase “you guys” and how insensitive it is. I usually just let it go but couldn’t help myself and commented. Ugh. The writer said she didn’t want to use language that came about in the bad old days. I pointed out all language developed back then. I know the writer meant well, but we are losing the big picture here.

I really hate having to take a stand on the little things. It seems like such a waste of time but it’s everywhere!!! I actually would love to get along with all people. My family loved good healthy debate (no hard feelings). But now it’s such a boring and exhausting mine field of micro-aggression etc. Thank God in my real life I hardly ever come across such nonsense. Most people seem fairly decent.

We have lost the concept of toleration. Our society is heading down a very bad road.

I see people who I have nothing in common with all the time. Not only do I not hate them, I don’t even bother thinking about them. The 2nd part of that quote is pretty silly. Nothing is all encompassing.

Yes, our kindergarten world has gotten very intolerant. If we spent some time thinking and learning about the people who are really screwing us (Politicians) and put some effort into getting rid of the bad ones and holding the others to task…. Wait, ESPN just came on. Let me get back to ya on that.

Yes, Very PC. Over the top PC.

I also don’t like “You Guys” I often smile at the server and say we’re not all guys.
Add to this all the baby talk people are doing. “My Bad”. I’m sure there is an agenda to it.
And the current popular word is Adorable. Everything is Adorable. Isn’t that Adorable? I think it’s a mental escape for young people to deny that lots of bad things are happening lately – last 10 years especially. So everything in their life is adorable instead. Makes me want to hurl.

Yesterday we went to a funeral for a dear friend who was the choreographer for our dance group. The reason I mention this is she didn’t believe in God nor does her husband, but upon learning of her death I still prayed for her. Rick Warren was wrong with his statement. You CAN love a person but also hate something about them, too.

I’m sorry for the loss of your friend, Mal. And that she left this earth without God. Even when we review wonderful memories at a memorial, this is an undercurrent that brings a special kind of pain. I do think Warren is right, though. Isn’t he saying the same thing as your last sentence?

This quote illustrates one of the more infantile logic fallacies – something little children might say before they ‘grow up’ and learn to process information carefully. So when I hear it ALL THE TIME I feel like I’m in Wonderland. ‘You’re an adult and don’t realize how stoopido you sound?’ Dennis Prager puts it in terms of having both compassion and standards. You don’t throw out one believing it’s the only way you can have the other.

What’s more, I don’t think the lefties that throw this around believe it for one minute. If they do we are in BIG trouble. That would mean they actually think people with dissenting opinions are evil/to be shunned. Well … maybe they do, come to think of it. I always took it as a tactic, but I’m seeing more they seem to believe that dissenters are evil and not worth engaging. But the tactic part is the Ayers strategy: target, isolate, marginalize.

I’d say that both of the “lies” being told form the foundations of political correctness. Homophobia is but one example (fear of homosexuality). The second lie is that we needed to “affirm” homosexuality through acceptance of gay “marriage”.

“The first is that if you disagree with someone’s lifestyle, you must fear or hate them.”

Folks in California have lifestyles, the rest of us have jobs and lives. Take that, you left coast zombies. I view the word lifestyle as sounding like something that you would shop for, and buy from a store. I have a tough time seeing people’s habits, cultures, predilections, and desires as a lifestyle. It is just their life.

Z: This could almost be one of your faith blogs. Christ says we are to forgive those who persecute us, and we should pray for their salvation. This means that we should pray for those whose “lifestyles” are disagreeable to us. I will confess that I will occasionally pray for Barack Obama, usually after cursing him and calling for ignominious departure from public life, usually tarred and feathered and ridden out of town on a rail. I pray for my forgiveness, and for Obama’s salvation.

Sorry, Bob, but according to Judaeo-Christian tenets, Soetoro is not eligible for salvation or forgiveness . . . because he refuses to admit that he might be wrong. Absolution is not available for those who are non penitent, and he sees absolutely nothing wrong with his policies, attitudes, decisions, and non-decisions.

Such is the curse of the liberal persuasion. And besides, anyone raised and schooled as a Muslim and then for 20 years attends a church led by a preacher who calls for God to damn America and whose mission statement (before it was yanked from their website for DingleBarry’s PotUS run) was “all things Africa first” isn’t a Christian anyway, and he’s MOST CERTAINLY not a Hebrew.

Baysider, in going back and re-reading it, you are correct. I was forgetting he referred to them as lies, not as his own quote. Mea culpa! And yes, it was a shame our friend died without God in her heart. Before retiring here in Sun City, she ran a studio in New York with 400 students and wrote and choreographed many well known ballets at that time. She was originally from London and will be missed by us all. For us, she choreographed many numbers, like show tunes, etc. in costumes which she usually designed and made, too. Quite talented. We are scheduled to audition for America’s Got Talent” on Dec. 6th at the Linq on the Strip. We won’t get accepted, but it will be fun to try. Besides, it was something she (Pam) had wanted us to do, so we will be doing it in her honor.

Sorry Bay…but as a vet, we’ve been trained to spot our enemies. And afford them no mercy at all. It may not be Christian or sensitive but he’s clearly not worthy of either from me, or anyone like me. And there are millions of us….veterans or not. I too want to see his departure…but in a totally different way. And I’ll leave it at that. I’m also convinced that if we continue down this path…a path that even Putin warned us to avoid…socialism…we will see massive civil unrest or the military will become completely fed up. I’d rather see a General Jack Keane or someone like him, with his experience and training, to lead us in the proper direction.

I absolutely believe that we can love someone without agreeing with all they do and that just disagreeing with a lifestyle doesn’t mean we have them…far from it.
Alec…I almost fell over when I heard “Rick Warren” because the person who gave me this quote is the least Rick -Warren person around, one of the most learned and faithful Christians I know in my life! RICK WARREN???, I asked!!! the proverbial broken clock, huh?

Bob…I agree. We’re to pray for everyone. Not just the folks we agree with, not just the Christians. By the way, I’m not sure what you even mean about California…we all have a style of life. We just have a better one here in California (SMILE!)

Please, let’s never assume anything about the dead; God works in His own timing and we just never know. As a wise person I knew said often “You might be surprised by who’s in heaven …and surprised by who is NOT”

This is God’s … not ours.

She finally got so frustrated she made a Z with wood she found on the beach! But I LOVED these colors…maybe I’ll change it from time to time and share more… so nice of her.)

The cost of living is awful here…but the salaries are high , too…I freak out when I watch HGTV and see 3000 sq. ft homes for $300K! You can’t get a ONE ROOM STUDIO in my neighborhood for that. And my neighborhood’s not that chic! And those houses for $300K are on a RIVER and NEW 🙂
I can’t BELIEVE how cheap housing is outside L.A….
AND I watch makeovers on HGTV? You can’t redo a bathroom here for what they do a GORGEOUS HUGE kitchen with in Waco, TX!!! That was my BUSINESS and I’m always saying to the tV “YOu can’t even buy the appliances for a kitchen here for what you can get in Waco for the whole enchilada, including granite counters and stainless steel appliances!”

Actually, my ‘lifestyle’ is being semi-retired and walking down to the beach 3x/week for feet-in-wet-sand time at the end of the day. I can walk or bike to 3 Whole Foods and the best farmer’s market in the county. 🙂 Sounds so dreamy, right?

Reality: It’s also a constant cacophony of traffic, car radios, back-up beepers and young I’m-leaving-the-seminar-at-11pm-to-stand-in-front-of-your-house-and-yell-with-my-drunken-friends-at-the-top-of-my-voice millenials. It’s going to hang out all evening in your car in a parking lot when my neighbor puts on his raucous, wall-thumping parties – and doesn’t see what my problem is because he thinks he’s under the legal decibel limit. I could never afford the property taxes on my teeny house if someone gifted it to me today, much less buy it.

But Z is right, it is “an ocean-sparkling blue-skyed, cool and gorgeous week” — except this week it comes from miserable desert winds that make you want to rip your nose off of your face. When it comes after a rain it IS heaven.

We have the most important gifts here too – like everywhere – with wonderful friends, family, dear Christians, some kind neighbors and good job opportunities.
