    I know they’re for Memorial Day, but I like ’em for Veterans’ Day as well.

    We forget how much we have something good that others want to take in a bad way. But for our military standing in the gap between us and vandals we would know all too well the predatory nature of man in ways we do not now imagine. At least until recently, when political ‘leaders’ are opening the doors to the vandals and preparing the military to constrain their own citizenry.

    These men give their lives, time, and curtailment of their own freedoms and preferences — for US! Dennis Prager was right. When a giddy Nobel committee could hardly wait to bedeck the pitiable Obama with the peace prize, Prager said “it’s the U.S. military that really deserves the Peace Prize.”

    Indeed! We foot about 1/4 of the free world’s defense expenses. So there are a LOT of countries that should celebrate today cuz they have more money to blow on social programs that they don’t have to spend on defense.

    Baysider, let’s not forget that Obama also constrains the military these days! Quite a sad event in our history and will be an even sadder event in the history of the world.

    In memory of my cousin Shane, a Marine who was KIA in Iraq in 2006, I sent a bunch of cookies down to the VFW in Redondo Beach today (Shane loved cookies). A small, silly thing, but it feels really good to let your local veterans know they are important and appreciated (and loved). God Bless All Who Serve … and THANK YOU!

    OH, Jules, what a great thing to do! It’s such a tribute to your cousin and I’m so sorry you lost Shane. God bless YOU and your family who still miss him.
    What I do here pales by a million in comparison to our military…but thanks for that. xxx

    Many of the Hotel/Casinos here in Vegas are offering free buffets to all who have served, past and present. I never take advantage of them but its nice to see them offer it. Also, Great Clips, where we have our hair cuts is offering free haircuts today or if you come in, will give you a card for one later. Hmmmm. I may do that! Many vets don’t realize discounts are offered every day for the asking, like 10% off from Home Depot, where I buy a lot of stuff. Many chain restaurants, also. They don’t tell you if you don’t ask, so ask, already!

    Though I did my time (24) years, I don’t feel comfortable accepting freebies for it. I’ll take the discount at Lowe’s when my wife is with me and asks for it, but otherwise I consider my retirement pay and other benefits (such as Navy Commissary/Exchange and Naval Hospital) ample compensation.

    I did use up every penny of my G.I. Bill finishing up my MA degree . . . maybe that’s why I figure the scales are balanced.

    List of Restaurant chains offering specials and discounts to vets today.

    I think it’s probably an even bigger pleasure for those offering the specials than those rec’ing them…..What a great thing!
    Bocopro, yes, you have benefited through the MA, etc., but GO HAVE A HAIRCUT 🙂

    Imp…thanks for that link!

    @Z..you bet. I was surprised at the number….even Starbucks…just a coffee…but still.

  14. Yeah, I got a free movie ticket, a free dessert, and 10% off a $10 purchase at Home Depot.
    But I was going all those places today anyway.
    I’m grateful for their gratefulness.
