FUN for a Friday Night…

Fly Irish

After being airborne approximately thirty minutes on an outbound Aer Lingusflight from Dublin to Boston, the lead flight attendant nervously made the following painful announcement in her lovely Irish brogue:  “Ladies and gentlemen, I’m so very sorry, but it appears that there has been a terrible mix-up.  I don’t know how this has happened, but we have 103 passengers on board, and…, unfortunately, we received only 40 dinner meals from our catering service.  I truly apologize for this mistake and inconvenience.”

When passengers’ muttering had died down, she continued…, “Anyone who is kind enough to give up their meal so that someone else can eat will receive free, unlimited drinks for the duration of our flight.”

Her next announcement came about 2 hours later… “If anyone would like to change their  mind, we still have 40 dinners available.”

Z: Of course, you could substitute a LOT of nationalities….but you know the old yarn of Irish drinkers 🙂    ENJOY!

I tried to post something this morning that tried to get our minds off Muslims and other illegal immigrants, etc… but it clearly didn’t do what I’d hoped!  Nobody commented on it! Not enough hate, I guess?     I hope this joke at least lifts you up a little….

I’m Irish according to my maiden name. And it’s nice to see some levity at this time. Some have traced our ancestors back to the Potato Famine. But apparently my relatives settled in southern Indiana and NEVER moved on. I would live to have had some of the heritage passed on, but we know so little. I figure I am pretty much just a mutt of America. Irish, English, German, some rumors of Native America.

Just wish I could claim some Italian heritage since that’s the place I love. Btw, next May will be our 25th anniversary and I finally got Bob to agree to go to Italy!!!!!! We’ll be going to Venice for a cruise. I know he will love Venice. Now I’m hoping I can ease him into seconding a few days after the cruise in Volterra. Wish me luck.

Rita, do you really want to travel anywhere, especially abroad during this time? We’re hesitant to even fly locally, within our borders. You riverboat gambler, you!

Mal. (Lol, autocorrect changed your name to Mao). It’s crossed my kind a bit, but I have never been able to convince my husband to go to Europe. I’ve been to Italy twice without him and I know he would love it. I’m not going to let the bastards cheat me out of enjoying our 25th anniversary while showing my husband to charm of Venice. The cruise does stop at Corfu, Santorini and Mykenos and Athens. So that’s a bit of a concern along with Kotor, Montenegro.

I suppose it doesn’t matter anyway since we are opening our own borders to the terrorists anyway.

I know one thing for sure. I won’t go down without a fight.

Mal. No need to have riverboat gambling anymore. Indiana finally agreed to have a land based casino a few years ago. Nothing like Vegas, but there is a LOT of history in a southern Indiana in two hotels in French Lick and West Baden. French Lick’s claim to fame is one Larry Bird. And that tells you everything you need to know about inbreeding in southern Indiana.

Seriously though, the guy that invented or perfected the heart stent, Koch used his extensive wealth to restore the aging hotels. West Baden was the largest free standing dome for many years. It is a reminder of a golden age when the rich could gamble illegally as long as someone would run the payoff to the governor back in the 20’s. Google images. It’s really something.

My aunt used to live just off the golf course of French Lick Springs hotel when it was in disrepair. Now that would be prime property since the area now hosts a couple of PGA worthy courses. The twin towns and hotels have brought life back into a dying town and is a gem in the middle of nowhere.

    But I digress.

In keeping with a light hearted theme here, this is the link my nephew took of West Baden hotel when we splurged in a 6th indoor balcony room a few years back.

It is. I remember it as a little kid when it housed a culinary school. My aunt always hoped one of us would attend. I saw it again in the late 70’s when it was still useable but aging. Thankfully it’s been fully restored and when I saw it right after that, I just stood in the dome in awe. Bob can usually score free nights at its sister hotel in French Lick less than a mile away, so we normally stay there, which is eerily reminiscent of the Overlook in The Shining. The casino sits between the two and has breathed new life into this dying town. There is no easy way to get there. Takes us more than a couple of hours, but my mom and sister live thirty winding minutes away.

And my nephew is one hell of a photographer. He also designed the hotel’s furniture. He works for Kimball International which used to be a piano factory in French Lick where my aunt and her husband worked. Now Kimball designs high end hotel furniture. Most of the hotels in Vegas have his furniture. Wynn, Belagio, Venetian, etc.

Glad you all liked the joke..

Mustang….I’m watching it, too. I always say The Quiet Man is the sexiest movie of all time; and you see NOTHING happen…it’s just ‘there’ and it’s hot!..even in the rain 🙂

French Lick, Rita? I’m gonna leave that one alone except to say now I know of it and West Baden.
As for Italy I, too, have been there twice but it wasn’t dangerous then (1950 & 1995). During the last trip we also saw the Greek Islands during our 14-day Med. cruise. Also Israel & Egypt. It was a little dangerous then, but nothing like it is today. Who ever dreamed we’d be so stupid as to elect a government that puts us in the danger we face today? But Rita, you can’t take arm yourself for protection on a trip abroad, so I repeat: “You riverboat gambler, you!” 🙂
