Sunday Faith Blog

Christmas is coming!…….Advent is here.   For those of us who believe The Story, this is the happiest time of the year.   But, there are sad days, family problems, financial problems, worry over our country, worry about the way our faith has been treated lately.

I just thought I’d remind myself and all my believing commenters of the words from Isaiah 40:1-5:

1 Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.

2 Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and proclaim to her that her hard service has been completed, that her sin has been paid for, that she has received from the LORD’s hand double for all her sins.

3 A voice of one calling: “In the desert prepare the way for the LORD ; make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God.

4 Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain.

5 And the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all mankind together will see it.For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.”

Take comfort in the one who has paid for the sins, and that the glory of the Lord will be revealed.

Have a great day …. prepare the way for the Lord in your behavior, your thoughts, a conscious, intentional strengthening of your faith.

The fourth candle has been lit.

Z, The wife, my 21 yr old son and I watched The Nativity Story last night (I bought the dvd). When it was over and the credits were rolling, Josh said it was the best Christmas movie he had ever watched. It is a good one. I will never look at the wise men the same again. (Spoiler alert: They were hilarious!)

  4. Mal says:

Your blog reminded me of our pastor’s message this morning. “Why do we continue to pray when things continue to go wrong? Because our Lord tells us to.”

  5. Baysider says:

It always comes back to our mind’s will. Thank you for the lovely reminder to set our intention on the foundation of our faith, and grow in this season.

  6. A guy I know who is a missionary said to take the Christ out of Christmas and put Him in our everyday activity.
    That was different.

  7. Jerry, if your son liked that movie, show him the uncut, no commercials Ben Hur.
Hardly regarded as a Christmas Story, yet it is.
And it’s got a lot of adventure in it.

Ed, I love that… we should be doing that, though I HOPE we never stop celebrating CHRISTMAS.

    Baysider….thanks so much.

    Mal, very cool!
Our Pastor today talked about MERCY and spoke on Elizabeth’s experience while pregnant with John….There should be a “magnificat” for Elizabeth, too…it’s beautiful.
    Our music today was AMAZING….

jerry, at our church, they used children every week to light the advent wreath’s candles…one lit, the other said what that candle stood for…made it SO precious and brought it alive!

Alec, it doesn’t get much better than Isaiah!

    Bunk: ENJOY!
