The chief danger that confronts the coming century will be religion without the Holy Ghost,
Christianity without Christ, forgiveness without repentance, salvation without regeneration,
politics without God, heaven without hell.
William Booth
“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.”
― William Saroyan
The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of the blessings. The inherent blessing of socialism is the equal sharing of misery. -- Winston Churchill

I believe in Christianity as I believe the sun has risen; not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else. C. S. Lewis
if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Don’t want to gloat… YES I DO!!! I’m smiling like an idiot this morning. Our friend Beck posted a reader comment this morning that the Iowa results was a Cuban sandwich with a huge slice of ham in the middle 🙂

I really do (and think Cruz does, too) attribute Cruz’ win to prayer, when they said he didn’t have one.

Karl Rove and the rest of the GOP establishment are clapping like seals this morning because Marco Rubio scored in the top-three tier of the Iowa Caucuses.
Marco Rubio is the establishment GOP’s anointed one. That’s been true since at least October 2015.
The GOP establishment will do all that it can to prevent Cruz from being the nominee. The GOP establishment is dead set against Cruz (and Trump and Carson).

AOW, I am not a Cruz fan and don’t think he can win a national election.
Rubio can and he’s conservative enough for me, whether Rove likes him or not, frankly. I do like him and am very pleased with the results in Iowa because of that.
Ed….nothing will happen from this fraud, as usual. And I, too, thought Trump would slam Iowans for not picking him…he was rather subdued and honorable. If only he could be like that more of the time!?
Jerry…Cruz is a ham sandwich, thru and thru…

I guess I differ from most off the Geeezer’s. I think it is a tragedy that Cruz won Iowa, but I think it good that Rubio might have a chance. I really think Cruz is a dangerous man. He seems to be black/white on issues, like Obama. That’s no way for a President to run the country.
Rubio may have flipped on immigration, but so have I. I used to be dead set against any kind of amnesty, but some sort of program to welcome our Hispanic friends into the country needs to be implemented. It is only common sense to make a priority of building the wall, and we should do nothing about changing immigration laws until we have that security.
We can get rid of millions of illegal aliens without rounding them up. All we have to do is enforce the employment laws and millions will go home. All it takes is a little political will. I think Rubio is the man who can achieve this end.
It is sickening that Sanders got half the Democrat vote. A communist floating to the top of the Democrat Party? Gheeez!

I’m with Lisa, and believe the rest of us are, also. I would take any of the three over what the Dems have to offer. Last night proved to be a humbling experience for Trump which appears to be a new experience for him (“I always win. I don’t go in to lose”). He did handle it in a decent way, too, which I was glad to see. The results showed Cruz ran a smart campaign as did Rubio. If Trump does lose out in the end, it gives him a face-saving excuse that missing the Iowa Caucus was the reason, but he felt it was important to help the Veterans by attending that event instead ($5 million was raised) which would make him look more charitable and less selfish. He could also say he caused a lot of shakeup in the campaign, leading us to victory, etc. etc.

Cruz is not a good national candidate, no matter how much we like what he says…and that’s not to say we have to lower standards to win a national election; it’s that we must include all in uplifting but not pandering ways, uphold the constitution, etc etc..
Lisa…I’m with you.
Mal, I think Trump’s shaken conservatives up; he’s been able to say what we’d all like to say; he might have made a dent in eradicating ridiculous political correctness…all good things!

Pundits are predicting the same trio will be in the top three for NH and SC primaries. The rest will be dropping in the next few weeks. Cruz apparently knows he won’t win NH, so he is already focusing on SC.
I still think Hillary doesn’t survive her e-mail-related federal crimes. Obama will give her a slap on the wrist plea bargain, but all the leaking and dog-piling from the Intel Community and Federal Law enforcement will doom her. It will be Biden-Warren to the rescue, and if Cruz is the GOP nominee, he will go the way of McCain and Romney.

SF : “if Cruz is the GOP nominee, he will go the way of McCain and Romney.” I couldn’t agree more, sadly.
But even Republicans are beating up on Rubio “he uses a teleprompter!” (this, to the guy who can speak off the cuff better than any of them), he’s a RINO, he changed his MIND (Thank GOD we have thinkers among Republicans)…
SO…as I’ve said for years “Republicans eat their young”
We’ll lose this election; the Dems will not ‘win’ But, they will win and America will be lost.

Since I am opposed to Trump, I’m left with Cruz and Rubio.
I don’t see Rubio as principled as Cruz, but I’ll take either, and since I believe the election is ours this November, it’s important we choose wisely, not necessarily pragmatically.

Ed,
I’m not convinced that the election is ours this November.
These stories about (1) Cruz’s shaming voters and (2) spreading lies about Ben Carson’s having dropped out before the Iowa votes were in last night are not good for either Cruz or the GOP.

I agree with Ed, AOW. The electorate from both parties are disgusted with politics in general as are the independents. This is why Trump got so popular and why whoever ends up on the GOP will win. (But having said that, I also thought Romney would win, too!)

My friend tells me Rush has callers all day today saying they can’t vote for Cruz now because he was such a cheat on Carson…Even hearing Cruz’s explanation is lame.
AOW…I know how you feel about Rubio. I just don’t.
I think the electorate is FED UP, too…….and a Republican, if he makes his points well, will win; Cruz is too smart for his own good; I believe he’s made some assumptions that aren’t working…and, I hate to say this, but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard “He’s weird to look at”> yes, I know that’s shallow, but there’s just something about him…..
All Rubio has to do is talk about the immigration stance, which he has changed his mind about and talk plainly about faith like he did on that amazing video I had here the other day, bring in his fellow Hispanics but bring them in as Americans, not a minority we pander to (it’s not his style, anyway), really drive home his conservative ideology where even non conservatives can find it appealing. I believe Cruz simply can’t do that.

Z,
There is a great deal of friction between Cuban immigrants and immigrants from Latin America.
So, I’m not so sure that Rubio can bring aboard his fellow Hispanics.

AOW, if anybody could do it, he can. Cuban immigrants are mostly conservatives; and very few people of any background spell out conservatism better than Rubio. If it comes down to an election, I’m thinking all Hispanics would rather vote for a ‘Rubio’ than an establishment White Protestant or Jewish elderly couple of choices!
I know you don’t like Rubio and you have inside information.
I’m not going to let Rove information sway me….I can’t STAND CRUZ.

When you think about it, when was the last time we felt very confident about any candidate from either party? You can say Reagan only after he had proven as an excellent Governor of Calif. but when he originally ran for that, he was mocked because of “B” movies he made, like Breakfast with Bongo”, etc. Any one of the candidates could prove to be a legend, but it most likely would be from the Right. Is there a sleeper waiting in the wings? We sure hope so!
