The chief danger that confronts the coming century will be religion without the Holy Ghost,
Christianity without Christ, forgiveness without repentance, salvation without regeneration,
politics without God, heaven without hell.
William Booth
“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.”
― William Saroyan
The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of the blessings. The inherent blessing of socialism is the equal sharing of misery. -- Winston Churchill
Ignorance is not an opinion, liberals
I believe in Christianity as I believe the sun has risen; not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else. C. S. Lewis
if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

America is certainly not our government we have become saddled with. America is still the idea of God-given freedom.

@ FB: Often, it takes an immigrant to truly wax poetic about America, and to provide concrete reasons why this nation is so great.
I am also a fan of our landscapes, east to west, north to south. We live in a beautiful, vast and wonderfully diverse nation.

Bocopro; I’m mostly with you on this one. Until 10 years ago, I guess until 9/11?, we felt so safe, so optimistic, things always straightened out. Not anymore. Not after the division brought (or wrought) by Obama….and some characterless Republicans
I brought his up B E C A U S E:
When Obama introduced Merrick Garland in the Rose Garden, he mentioned his hobbies…one of which was visiting National Parks around America.
Dennis Prager, whom I usually admire, said something like this the next morning “Only liberals list national parks as a reason to love America…I’ll bet NO Republicans would ever list that FIRST….but I know that you can barely find an answer out of a Liberal about why he or she loves America” (which could be, and probably is, true)
Of course, Prager was dead wrong…none of us would list NATURAL BEAUTY as THE first thing we love about America… But I didn’t think it was fair of Prager to say what he did; Obama only was listing HOBBIES, he never said Garland’s first or only thing he loved about this country was that.!!
So, SOME OF YOU DID MENTION THIS, but only after listing other things.
SF…ROOTS MUSIC, your number one favorite thing about America?!
Great answers, everybody; think Prager was right?

Just saw this tidbit about Michelle Obama ..she said recently that”the thing she’ll miss the most is interacting with the different people she meets from across the country. When asked if she would ever run for president, the first lady said there won’t be another President Obama any time soon. .”
And the luxury, I’m thinking? “interacting” or stirring things up?
And thank GOD there won’t be another president Obama any time soon……hopefully NEVER.

I forgot football. American football in my list. I love the game, the history of the game, the logos, etc… I was an avid soccer player in my youth but it saddens me to see more and more soccer in the US, even though it’s a great sport when played to attack. (And not like the French play it i.e. not to take any goals.)

The more I hear “God given freedom,” the more I believe it…the contexts make more and more sense. The lack of those freedoms, as perpetrated by the Left (no choices allowed because Americans are too stupid, EXCEPT to they can choose to kill their unborn children) is so stifling….It’s clear that it’s freedoms from GOD that we’ve enjoyed as long as earthly man followed the tenets of God. Since we haven’t, those gifts of freedom are leaving us (what to think, what to say, what to drink, what to believe, what to….fill in the blank). And the left thinks ITS the kind of freedom?
Freedom to lose all we have, freedom to lose jobs, healthcare, freedom to be utterly insulted for not agreeing with them?
Mustang….do you think we CAN get back to an AMERICAN GOVERNMENT?
Do you think coalitions could work better, as they are implemented in Germany, France, etc.?

The French national team of that time was different from the one today and I was speaking more of the French championship.

Coalitions in France are easier because they’re all statists. Chirac was left leaning despite being on the right.

FB….you think French soccer’s gone soft then? What did you mean by “not to take any goals”…that’s ridiculous, isn’t it??!!
I think coalitions are less easy because they actually do try, and usually succeed, at making coalition goals work, don’t you? At least major groups TRY to work together, or do I have that wrong in France, anyway?
Chirac definitely was left leaning…I was there for his last election and couldn’t believe the people looked at him as Conservative.

The French don’t have to worry; I believe they CAN waterboard if they want to. Or anything else.
Am I wrong, FB? Let me know. xx

That our rights are granted by God, and merely protected by men. We’ve completely lost sight of any concept of responsibility to God as good stewards of His prerogatives, whether it’s the body politic or environment. Too busy fighting over who gets to sit on His throne.
The fabulous concept of separation of powers, of perpetually setting power hungry men against each other, guarding their powers from being co-opted by others, and, hence, guarding us from a monolithic state. Brilliant! Nice while it lasted.
The Electoral College – also brilliant!
The Bill of Rights, especially 1, 2, 9, and 10.
Security – as the storm clouds gather far across the sea…. No more alas, especially thanks to Obama’s feckless policies at the border and forced self-immolation of the military.
The ‘can do’ spirit and general optimism of the nation as a whole. Also fading.
The natural beauty. Also fabulous, but most special in its bejeweled setting of the rights, privileges and moral clarity that were once the beacons of this nation.

Baysider, thanks. I really was surprised at Prager’s silliness condemning Obama for mentioning Garland liked the National Parks…Prager saying “isn’t it typical that’s all they can think of about America to love?” Ridiculous.
Some guy called in and so echoed my own thoughts, exactly in detail, it almost freaked me out! 🙂

The French soccer championship have a lot of teams that play for the tie and not to lose instead of playing for the win and putting on a show. They seem like they walk on the pitch.
As far as interrogating, I don’t know but I wouldn’t be surprised. I was explaining to an acquaintance that the focus of Americans on continuous and self improvement sometimes gets in the way. They always want to be a better people, hence the PCness or the guilt. French don’t worry about that stuff as much.

FB…but why don’t they want to WIN at soccer? What happened to them? It used to be WIN OR SUFFER, right? And that was so much fun…I don’t get it.
And you are SO RIGHT on continuous self improvement, which has got us NOWHERE but PC and guilt and RIDICULOUS degeneration!!!
