Two of the smartest people I ever knew, one a senior professor at the university where I taught, the other a Navy 4-striper who was executive officer (female, BTW) and for whom I worked as the command discipline officer at Great Lakes, probably wouldn’t get my vote if they ran for city alderman.

Brilliant minds, quick, focused, complex, even profound, but simply incapable of dealing successfully with other people. I get the same vibes from them, and from Cruz, that I got from NIxon back in the late 50s and early 60s: I wouldn’t buy a used car from any of ’em.

So I’m not entirely sure how effective Cruz would be as PotUS as opposed to, say, SCotUS or AttyGen. The woman I mentioned above was a very effective executive officer, but more because she was by nature a psychopath and knew how to kick ass and take names without hesitation or remorse. The professor had already forgotten more about English lit than I’ll ever know and had a marvelous facility for putting Shakespeare or Milton into clever little aphoristic homilies that stuck in the mind like a teenager’s first kiss or that inaugural fistfight.

But neither of them could lead a crow to a roadkill. Just didn’t have the knack of compliment or compromise. In anything outside their specialities, they were simply ignorant ineffective klutzes, completely unable to get along in either the boardroom or the playroom.

My take is that El Donaldo will likely get close enough despite the double-dealing undercutting by the entrenched GOPers that the good ol’ boys of the grand ol’ party will have no choice but to let him run with it. Otherwise he’ll create thorough chaos and run off with his cadre of loyalists, saying in effect, “Look, boys . . . give me that nomination or the Elephant gets it right between the eyes.”

Hellary is even more unlikable than Trump, and I can see crossovers leaving her camp to vote for him as a rejection of the status quo, specifically big government and even bigger corruption. She has her mob of loyalistas, but I can see a lot of stay-at-homeness by blacks and Latinos in the genelec. IOW, her margin of victory wouldn’t be so much a “mandate” as just another “first” for the fad-oriented ignoranti.

I don’t see Cruz beating her because his sleaze factor triggers a wordless visceral queasiness on a deeper level than hers. What ticks me off about the whole process so far is the dawdling by Justice to lance the carbuncle and bring charges against her. What the hell are they waiting for? Is it pressure from Obeyme?

We most certainly do NOT need a habitual, experienced, professional criminal further desecrating the memory of a once-proud and until-recently powerful nation. And we MOST definitely do not need another lib on the court.

Ergo I would vote for John Q. Smith from Dubuque, Iowa, with zero experience and no platform so long as he promised to actually uphold existing law, stop the economic bleeding, simplify the tax code, and fill Scalia’s chair with a bona fide conservative.

Absent that indictment, Murka will continue the “first” trend by electing a female presidentress. Next in the series will probably be a trannie.

poll after poll after poll shows trump getting creamed by Hillary. If Trump is the nominee, Hillary wins in a landslide (unless you believe all these polls are rigged?). Cruz is our last best hope to save the Republic, if that is even still possible. I do think Cruz would beat cankles, just not in NY or California or Illinois. Hillary wins those no matter what.

1237. “close enough” doesn’t cut it. let’s see if el Don can make some deals to get there on the 2nd or 3rd ballots. The man can’t speak in complete sentences so I doubt he gets the nomination, threats of violence from his camp notwithstanding.

  4. That political observers are coming to a realization of Cruz’ qualifications so late explains the lukewarm reception I’ve seen him get.
    Like Jerry said.
    And Cruz beats Hillary.
Any debate, he mops the floor with her
He’s only 3% behind her now, but wait til the focus is on him and not Trump.
    The left wants Trump.
That’s why they cross over to support him.
    Hillary kills Trump.

But they let his angry, populist appeal override their judgement, and won’t recognize Cruz’ accomplishments (and superiority).

We’ve been following Ted Cruz’s career for years now. He does seem Constitutionally sound and he still is our second choice (after Rand Paul). Regrettably, the GOPe has deemed him unworthy and now the election is rigged. I don’t see how there’s any way anyone could predict what the outcome will be.

As much as I hate to admit it, that sleaze factor is hurting Cruz. This factor is a nebulous thing, but it exists.

There’s also this: Ted Cruz Believes He Is An ‘Anointed King’ To Bring About The “End Times Wealth Transfer”, which has made the rounds in various venues. I can vouch for the verity thereof, but the information is being circulated.

Only if people will use their left brains instead of their right brains. Frankly, I’m not sure that enough of the electorate is capable of doing so.

bocopro…you make good points except the one that Cruz just being smart doesn’t mean he can perform; he’s been a senator and a strong one, anybody who can tick the GOP off that big time is someone I admire.
Again, I truly can’t stand his style and would NEVER vote for him were it not for the rest of the hideous candidates from both sides, but I’d not downplay his record and his intelligence.

    Jerry…I’m with you on that…absolutely.

Ed, I agree mostly…And I doubt many of Trump’s supporters are “stupid”…they’re just swept away with his big promises to truly FIX THINGS….which is silly, but hopeful.

“THE FIX IS IN”…in other words, it’s TRUMP? No question?

Lots of discussions and opinions here. Bottom line is we simply don’t know. So much time left before any decisions are made who gets selected. Never have we witnessed such a poor selection of candidates. Sad thing is, the best candidate that would have been more acceptable across party lines was probably one of the original 17 that started, but was eliminated. But in the end, we MUST remain united and vote GOP, even if its like Z said, “Hold my nose and vote.”

It’s like comparing apples and oranges. One spent his life in the business world, one in politics.

Cruz will not win. I can tell you that. Not appealing to moderates, not appealing to African Americans. His resume may be impressive but his personality will make him a loser. If he wasn’t, he’d beat Kasich in the Northeast and he simply can’t.

ParTIC’larly well done, ain’t it. Cain’t wait for the inevitable Trump counterpunch. Wanna see if it measures up in subtlety, nuance, and non-verbal armor-piercing harpoons, such as the very opening with Huma asking the question for Cankles and the response preambled by the wrong title.

‘Course a lotta peeps won’t know who Huma is, prob’ly considering it some kinda exotic Arab food such as cous-cous . . . a bit perhaps as Madame Sec’y does.

At least one industry is flourishing under the Obama administration.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) has released a new report that reveals more than 100,000 jobs in gun-related industries were created in the last 7 years.

The NSSF reports that in 2008 the number of jobs in firearms-related industries was 166,200. In 2015 that number jumped to 287,986, for an additional 121,786 jobs or an increase of 73%.

And this will quintuple if Killary EO’s the second amendment.

Trump could have been IT in ONE election cycle because he could have had what it took…but he’s just been nothing but a crowing slob and that’s that. the jerk.

FB….Cruz is losing to Kasich in the NE because Kasich is so squishy on conservatism…that’s all. He’s a weasel and constantly reminding everybody what he did in Ohio….who cares? I like the guy but he’s a weasel….Cruz is waaaay too staunch a conservative and people perceive his faith as overwhelming (when he’s barely talked about it, by the way)…that’s why Kasich is ahead in the NE.

Bopcopro…great clip. I seriously find Cruz very unappealing to listen to , look at, etc….Mean, but true. BUT I think he COULD beat Hillary…I really do…..he has to have speech coaches, voice coaches, and get more articulate on his conservatism and WHY IT WORKS (something most don’t have the knowledge or GUTS to articulate to the public) and he could win.
“we’re OUT OF MONEY…if we don’t start putting our own country first, we’re DONE” Truth! HURRAH!
“We can’t pay for foreigners when we have Americans in so much need…I’m a Republican and I believe in AMERICANS” HURRAH!
“I will NEVER apologize for our country….” Hurrah!
“There is no better way to stop a bullet than a JOB… and now way to help a poor family better than a job!” Hurrah!

ditto ditto ditto…………..think I’m nuts and overly optimistic?

Of course, Trump will NEVER EVER let anybody get this nomination but himself and IF he doesn’t get it, he’ll have so many idiot Trumpsters not voting that he’s handing it to Hillary; and watch for it; He’ll ENCOURAGE people not to vote and those catching the red meat he’s throwing them will hypnotically obey.

I think the nomination is Trump’s to lose. If he doesn’t get his political house straight, he just might lose it. I think all he has to do is keep on keeping on with his current methods. He has apparently no desire to build “ground teams” but he is also in a position to win the nomination without them.

Going up against the Clinton smear machine will be his biggest problem in the general election. He is going to have to out-nasty nasty Hillary. That’s a big job.

  27. Bob, as it stands right now in the polls (not saying it can’t change, it can) Trump loses to Hillary.
Cruz ties her. Well there are no ties so it’s close.
People aren’t listening to Cruz though.
They’re running on old news and second hand impressions.
Let the election commence and put his calm reason and genuine humor against her shrill cackle….and that’s not even the debate he’d tear her up in… and he wins. We win.
