You could have heard a pin drop

The way other administrations handled foreign relations:

An elderly gentleman of 83, arrived in Paris by plane.
At French Customs, he took a few minutes to locate his passport
in his carry on.

“You have been to France before, monsieur?” the customs officer asked
sarcastically.  Mr. Whiting admitted that he had been to France previously.

“Then you should know enough to have your passport ready.”

The American said, “The last time I was here, I didn’t have to show it.”

“Impossible.. Americans always have to show their passports on arrival in France !”

The American senior gave the Frenchman a long hard look. Then he
quietly explained, ”Well, when I came ashore at Omaha Beach on D-Day in
1944 to help liberate this country, I couldn’t find a single Frenchmen
to show a passport to.”

You could have heard a pin drop.

When in England ,at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the
Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of
’empire building’ by George Bush.
He answered by saying,

“Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return.

You could have heard a pin drop.

JFK’S Secretary of State, Dean Rusk, was in France in the early 60’s when
DeGaulle decided to pull out of NATO. DeGaulle said he wanted all US
military out of France as soon as possible. Rusk responded,  “Does that include those who are buried here?” DeGaulle did not respond.

Good one Z. Says it all.

  2. jerrydablade says:

Good ones, all. And what about the repeated cries for help from our Benghazi ambassador to obama and clinton? pin drop.

  3. I remember Bill Whittle writing that if we went into Iraq for the oil, we would have created a secure highway, pumps to ports, and ignored the rest of the country.
    But we didn’t.

  4. Sparky says:

Total agreement here too. Excellent Z. Hope your day is blessed. ~:)

  5. geeez2014 says:

Glad you all liked these, too….

    Jerry… good point.

Ed..we didn’t go in FOR oil, but we sure should have grabbed a LOT when we were there….!

    Sparks and Bunk…thanks! XX

  6. geeez2014 says:

OFF TOPIC: CNN is having a HAY DAY with Romney interviews this morning….Wolf Blitzer was practically DROOLING listening to Romney’s attacks on Trump. Oh, ol’ Wolf was just salivating with glee. Then Smerconish took over on his show and it all started again.
They might as well have asked “Don’t you think most Republicans have no values if they support Trump?” and I believe Romney would have probably said “yes”.

  7. Mal says:

There was another “you could’ve heard a pin drop” that was with these, Z, about a U.S. Admiral at some international meeting addressing aid needed for some 3rd world country that had just experience a devastating disaster like an earthquake or tsunami being asked by a French diplomat why the U.S. was sending a battleship. “Were you planning on bombing them?” To which the Admiral calmly explained the ability of the ship to furnish huge amounts of electricity, thousands of gallons of desalinated water, thousands of meals, medical staff and supplies, etc. etc. Then stated we are sending 3 such ships. How many is France sending?
“YOU COULD’VE HEARD A PIN DROP.”

  8. Bob says:

Good post, Z. You would think that we will learn a lesson, someday, that wherever we go, whatever we do, others will always interpret our actions as imperialism in action. This whole foreign attitude underlines that the purpose of any foreign policy should be to advance, or protect whatever interests and citizenry we have in those regions of the world.

Wolf Blitzer is just living up to his reputation of biased reporting.

  9. geeez2014 says:

Mal, I left that one off the list, it was on this one and I don’t like to put too many….but ya….thanks!

Bob…Blitzer is BEYOND himself today…Romney’s done a REALLY good job turning Indies and moderate Dems not only off Trump but off the Republican party.

SUDDENLY, Romney has found his tongue and feels he can use it….I used to be sad he found it only right after he gave his election away with his ridiculous silence on so many things….but now I’m thinking his actions this week are so reprehensible that I’m glad he lost. Against Obama…That’s saying a LOT on my part 🙂 Right?

  10. Kid says:

Well, if Trump wins, it is not going to be moderates or people on the fence that make it happen, and frankly Trump’s appeal is how he tells the media and the outsiders that they don’t get to tell us how to live, talk, or walk. Americans are fed up with the PC and being used by these losers and we all want to scream at wolfey blitzkreig and his romper room show – Hey Wolf, move to Russia and take a few moslems with you. hey Clooney – Shut up; and take as many moslems with you as you can to whereever you’re going. Ditto all libtards who have threatened to leave. Yea, Leave! Please ! Hey, president of France, PM of England, Mexico… shut up already. What do you people contribute to the world, what do you contribute to the needy, These people aren’t contributuing to anything. I donate more to charity each year than Biden does.

And another way of saying it – someone like Trump is the only type of person who is going to take those feelings and transmit them to the proper targets. Yea, he’s an ass.

I can’t figure out how a nice guy is going to get the message across and get elected. They all stayed home for mcclain. They all stayed home for romney. NIce guys finish last. Not that mcclain or romney ar nice guys, but still.

It’s just where we are at now with how far we’ve sank.

  11. Kid says:

Anyway, to the main point. Yes, it is amazing what we do for the rest of the world, (not all good of course..) and get no recognition, not even a thank you in so many cases. I really think that if one of our natural disasters or otherwise was met by some very significant contributions in just even financial help (easiest thing to do, click a donate button) I really think there would be whole page adverts taken out thanking – say the people of Uraguay for their generous help with the massive flooding in Texas, or the Tornados in Okla. We get nothihng from the rest of the world and I believe that shows just how diseased of a situation that is.

I recently took a survey and chose to answer a relative quesiton that American should withdraw from the rest of the world [and let them see what life is like without our help].

  12. geeez2014 says:

Kid “Well, if Trump wins, it is not going to be moderates or people on the fence that make it happen,”
Actually, without them he really can’t win because he’s turned off an AWFUL lot of Republicans with his gruff and uninformed stuff….I can’t tell you how many times really good Cons. have told me it’ll be impossible for them….I usually remind them of the Supreme Court and they begin to turn around but then they remember TRUMP. That’s just the facts.

Trump could have said EVERYTHING HE SAID without calling women horrible names, suggesting he doesn’t know where they bleed from, calling them pigs and other things…he could have REALLY come down on the media without calling them “BEAUTIES” in such an ugly manner, or addressed newsmen without “Ya, you work for that paper that’s dying, frankly”…gad, I could go ON and ON and ON.

Please, Trump, BE ANGRY, SHOW WHY YOU’RE ANGRY, YELL if you have to but PLEASE STOP the name calling.

Also, people of all ilk are REAL worried about his temperament and that beast and her minions are playing it JUST RIGHT…talking about how he can’t be trusted with the nuclear button, etc…”thin skinned” is the word she and the rest of the lefties are using and people don’t like that.

Also, Hillary solved the Trump charge of “playing the woman card” PERFECTLY yesterday when she said (and I’ve heard it repeated today by others so it did stick, sadly) “If standing up for women is playing the woman card, I’m FOR IT….I’m playing the WHOLE DECK” (I paraphrase). VERy effective and took away one of his great and legitimate criticisms of HIllary.

  13. Kid says:

Z, If you’re right (and you may very well be) then America is screwed. If we’re waiting for a Mr Conservative George Clooney look alike to come along, it aint gonna happen.

PC is Jeb Bush. He was rejected with extreme prejudice. Hey, just an observer, but admittedly one who wants my middle finger pointed at a great many people in politics and the media and hollywood, etc who think this is just business as usual and that they can tell me how I’m going to live while they are insulated with their waelth and status. No holds barred, that pisses me off to no end. Those people have nothing on me other than blind luck and I don’t owe anyone Jack.

I’m a frog and the water is starting to boil.

    We’re probably screwed.

  14. geeez2014 says:

Kid, George Clooney? You mean you think some prefer a good looking candidate? I don’t.
They want someone who says basically what Trump says but said with dignity and only said if it’s an opinion that’s informed… Said REALLY angrily? Ya….said loudly? YA. Said without bodily fluid or other childish insults? oh ya…….definitely.

I don’t look at all politicians as looking at me with the finger…but I know MANY MANY people feel that way today. And they’re not totally wrong, that’s for sure.

Imagine this: A Donald Trump who’s got the public’s attention and now starts toning it down. NOT THE MESSAGE…NO WAY. But being kind, less thin skinned “oh, ya…let them say that….the people know the truth” (instead of stupid knee jerk insults back as he does now)…
A Donald Trump who seems to actually know what he’s talking about, who doesn’t keep insisting MEXICO’S GOING TO PAY FOR THE WALL ….But, instead, pointing out how Mexicans need to get THEIR act in shape, stop screwing US.

I just saw a case on CNN where some illegal guy beat up his family again, here in the US, for the third time. He was in custody but the sanctuary city he lives in decided to drop the charges and he’s being held on bond for deportation…..The Sanctuary City mayor said that this is the way his city suffers no consequences for letting people go…WHAT?
I was stunned that CNN actually did a realistic piece telling the ugly truth about how we’re SO SO weak on illegals….they really did. shocking that they’d lean Right on this.

  15. geeez2014 says:

Dave, good for them! ONE TIME they helped America….well, it’s something!
By the way, Trump, who I despise, was right…many of the immigrants are rapists and, at the least, thieves and are breaking the LAW, which matters to Conservatives …yup, it still does.
A Sanctuary City guy in, I believe, Chicago, assured the CNN news woman that “NO illegals released have committed any crimes”…except, to their credit, CNN found about 10 cases themselves….all done after the MX illegals were released.
I’d have thought people who break into a country and have a lot paid for for them might at least obey the laws, wouldn’t you?

Thanks…if Mexico did that, and they clearly did, they deserve credit for it. But for what we’ve paid in BILLIONS to accommodate their leeches, I’m not sure it’s an even exchange.
Having said that, I WISH that all Mexican immigrants were anything like the very sweet Central Americans I personally know…some of whom did come illegally but are legal now. And appreciative. And very hard working. All the Central Am. kids I hear on the nearby school yard speak English, even to each other, and they are spit and polish clean when their parents walk them to school..proud and hard working families. They deserve a nod in our media, don’t they.

  16. Kid says:

Z, The reference to Clooney was just a reference to what young people, and older people too consider to be hip andacceptable. They want someone acceptable and hip to deliver the message. I think that’s impossible.given where we have travelled to. You can’t give any credibility to the people who have been tearing us apart and make any hay with those Americans who want America back. Maybe if Cher, a 9th grade drop out came out in support ot hard working middle class taxpaying Americans instead of every minotiry niche group looking to get over on the rest of us.

@Dave, Ok good deal. Assuming this happened just as the anti-American WaPo reported it (And I will make that assumption for the benefit of the doubt) then we’re still 999,999 US Aid to victims worldwide to 1 Mexican aid to America. And San Antonio? That seems weird. If New Orleans people could get to San Antonio could they not have also managed to find food and water? Why didn’t the Mexican folks drive into New Orleans to provide water to people that the Governorette Kathleen Babette Blanco witheld from them by refusing to allow Natl Guard people in for three days. The effect of which was that FEMA ain’t going anywhere without Natl Guard people in there to protect them, As a side story….

Also, most of the Katrina folks went to Houston.

So Good on the Mexican Army. Now why don’t they focus their attention on keeping the cartel people out of our country who come in and torture and behead and worse, people in the USA near the border, stealing land and property from US citizens/ranchers near the border. Better yet, why does the US Government not protect these people?, since the Number One mandate for the Federal Government is National Security.

  17. geeez2014 says:

Kid, re MX and Dave….the lies flourished about Katrina.
Remember when the lefties blamed Bush for being late to help, etc., when the problem was that, legally, the STATE has to ASK for help and he kept saying “You going to ASK?” Ya, Bush’s fault…Are there still empty, defective FEMA trailers by the hundreds sitting around somewhere? Remember that?

  18. Kid says:

Z, that whole story was worked so hard, a person (who cared) would have to be in a coma to not know how hard the artillary was being fired from the media on that one.

Meanwhile – Sandy. obama and Christie walk arm in arm and promise to make things happen. How long has it been? has obama even thought about hurricane sandy since he went there and spouted some lies then headed back to DC to steal more money?

    The contrasts are unreal.

  19. geeez2014 says:

Right, Kid….I hear that New Jersey Sandy sufferers are STILL waiting for help….I don’t think even CHristie’s thought about Hurricane Sandy, from what I’ve heard. unreal is right.

  20. Imp says:

Best definition of the democrat party I’ve read so far…

Fascism is a left-wing ideology developed in the 1920s and 1930s, which says that government officials should coordinate all aspects of a nation’s society, including privately owned industry, churches, unions and schools.

  21. geeez2014 says:

Imp, that is, sadly, EXCELLENT. Did you hear that that same group that decided Republicans were sociopaths a few years back has finally decided it’s quite the opposite? I Googled but can’t find it…Yup, they said LIBERALS are because they’re so into everybody else telling them what to do…they’re so into authoritarianism…etc etc.
    Cracked me up.
When the Reps were said to be nuts, ALL the media carried it…this one? I can’t find it…though I only Googled a few minutes…!!! Typical.

Thanks for the definition…it’s just plain true. Of course, the Left would say “that’s fine…everything DOES need to be coordinated by the gov’t.” THAT is the BIGGER problem, right?

  22. geeez2014 says:

Did you all see this? “Romney said he worried about the example a Trump presidency might set for future generations, that it would lead to “trickle-down racism.””

So, apparently, he has so little faith in Americans that he believes we’ll all BE RACISTS!? And he REALLY thinks Trump is RACIST?
I am so so devastatingly disappointed in THIS JERK Romney.

  23. Look, totally off topic and I hope this works:

  24. Kid says:

    Romney? There be Money Involved.

  25. On another note, an dear friend of mine from high school who, looked like those early pictures of Hillary, just re-posted an anti-Hillary post of mine.
And then posted an anti-Trump post.
    That’s where we’re at.

  26. geeez2014 says:

    Ed, great little video there!

Kid…I thought so, too. But what’s the thing you suspect? Here’s Romney REALLY slammin’ Trump…..something’s behind it. I mean, I KNOW Trump is a horrid human being but Romney ought to be thinking of the Supreme Court, he ought to be thinking about how he could help, not hinder, this (horrible man’s) candidacy.
I hear the Koch Bros aren’t going to give Trump anything, either…what the………?

  27. Kid says:

Z, All I can say is the question marks in your comment just scream at me that the answers are $, $ and $. How, whyy, when and where I have no idea. But for Romney or anyone else to slam the republican nominee in the face of the beast being elected is not acceptable. Sure, he’s an ass, Sure, he may even be a liar, Sure we have no idea what he will or won’t do, but we iknow with deadly accurate certainty what the beast will do. Damn, how’d we get to this point so damn fast.

So, screw romney, and screw the koch brothers, and screw anyone else voting for the beast directly or indirectly. Not an insult, an opinion. I thiink I’m still entitled to one though it may offend some.

  28. Kid, he’s not the nominee.
    Yet.
And he may not even be an electable nominee.
Right now the best you can say about
Donald Trump, is that he’s not Hillary Clinton.
There are many of us who hope that Something Better comes along that perhaps might end up even in an article 12. And we’re not on board for Trump yet. If your screw you comment is intended for those of us who are not supporting Trump now, I’m sorry you feel that way.

  29. geeez2014 says:

“So, screw romney, and screw the koch brothers, and screw anyone else voting for the beast directly or indirectly” Hoorah! Yes, you’re entitled and you are RIGHT!!!

Ed, you REALLY feel that way? You REALLY think it’s possible to NOT have Trump as our candidate? Can you imagine what he’ll DO if they went around him? And how that would look to voters?

  30. Mal says:

Honestly, I wouldn’t mind if we got another qualified candidate for the GOP……….IF…he could win. Problem is, would ALL Republicans come on board, along with independents and those on the Left who are anti-Hillary? I think not. That would be wishful thinking. It would probably assure a victory for her. Now, with the Orlando shooting fresh on the scene, it enhances Trump’s bid.

  31. Kid says:

Ed, No I odn’t mean it on a personal individual level. It’s just very frustrating.

  32. Kid says:

Mal, unfortunately too large of a percentage won’t vote for less than the perfect candidate and too large of a percentage won’t vote the the perfect ‘moderate’ candidate.

Democrats don’t have that integrity problem.

  33. Mal says:

    Amen, Kid!

  34. Mal says:

Out of the original “17”, a lot of good people bit the dust.

  35. Kid says:

MAL, Exactly. This is what proved to me that a ‘palatable’ candidate cannot win today. I believe the majority of non-democrat potential voters realize that our country is being/has been sold down the river to special interest groups, minority niche groups and moslem vermin. Try to talk to us about jobs, the economy, education tweaks and we just want to upchuck on your shoes if not your suit.

And Bush with the embrace the moslem invaders! Good God ! I’ll stop here.

  36. Kid says:

Ed, .. clarification. The screw you comment was definitely personally directed at romney and the koch bros. They know what the democrats have done to America and especially the middle class, and they are out here strutting their anti-Trump stuff in order to increase their personal wealth. Yes, most definitely screw them. I’d say it to their faces with their security people on hand. You can only accept so much. There is a point where one does not retreat.

As far as individual voters who don’t have a high soapbox with plenty of media coverage that keep it their private matter with the presumed discussions between friends and family, that is their private matter. You’ll note that I’ve done no posts trying to get people to vote left or right. Nor will I. I Will heartliy thank those who didn’t bother voting though come mid November that resulted in the beast getting into the white house and quite sarcastically at that.

  37. Mal says:

Some voter options, huh Kid? How in Hell did we ever get to this point? (clue……Obama!)

  38. Kid says:

Mal, And the repbblekins not doing their job.
