Hippies, Pigs and Burning Flags…then and NOW

black lives matter

In the 2000’s, I think it’s interesting that we’ve got Black Lives Matter, we’ve got new American flag burning jerks, we’ve got an anti-law enforcement mentality again, we had an aging hippie socialist running for president…..etc etc.  And we have Trump.

woodstock

And, In the Sixties, we had anti-law enforcement (Calling cops “pigs”, remember?), we had Black Power, we had American flag burning jerks, we had hippies galore…………and who won the presidency in that time of Kent State’s deaths and Woodstock**?

                                                                 NIXON!

I’m thinking THE CONSERVATIVE just might have a chance based on that~   Interesting concept, don’t you think?

** isn’t it amazing when you can’t remember what you had for lunch but can remember every single lyric of a song you knew in 1969? 🙂  And didn’t we have THE BEST MUSIC?   Whatever happens in November, we have to learn to…………CARRY ON.  You’re going to end up listening to that whole album,  believe me!

  1. And Nixon wasn’t a conservative either.

Good and interesting Point Z. I wonder if Trump’s “law and order” president message was inspired by this parallel.

And I have that tune on my playlist. Yes – imo, the 60’s and 70’s was the best time for music. Very new and experimental. Lots of choices – today not so much. Today’s ‘rock’ music sounds like country. In fact most stuff sounds like country music.

Ed, I don’t think there are many conservatives around anywhere, least of all politics. Everybody wants to control everyone else.

Ed, the country has two choices at any election and he’s ‘the conservative’ for the purposes of this post; And he was more conservative than his opponent. I think the point’s an important one, and an optimistic one.
We cannot have HILLARY…no matter how conservative (or not) a candidate from the other side is.

Kid,I linked to Woodstock and Four Dead in Ohio, too….and sat and listened to the whole album on line.. we forget how VERY VERY GOOD that stuff was. SO good. Carry On is a very favorite of mine. That album is fabulous.

And yes, it feels like they want to control us but, mostly, I think it’s a big country and there has to be rules and they feel more like controlling than they’re meant to be.

LET ME ASK ALL OF YOU SOMETHING (THIS SHOULD BE A POST, MAYBE?):

JUST HOW SMALL DO YOU THINK GOV’T CAN GET ANYMORE WITH A COUNTRY THIS SIZE, WITH THIS MANY PEOPLE? DESCRIBE HOW YOU’D SEE THAT…

  5. Kid says:

Z, First off, when I saw they want to control too much, I’m talking about social issues. There were no social issues in the Constitution or Declaration of Independence – as my comparison reference point. We do need laws, yes, we just don’t need any regards social issues imo. Legalize all the drugs for example like they were pre-1920 or so. I don’t care what people do to themselves but we know the war on drugs is nothing more than a revenue source for government.

How small should government get? The Federal government needs to only be concerned with national security and interstate issues. All else should be up to the states.

I realize we’re absurdly too far beyond any of this for it to even be a conversation, so I just write it to clarify.

@JMB, Yes, I should have added – as long as I don’t have to pay for it. If they end up in jail, I have to pay for it, so those activities are automatically excluded unless we decide to make them legal. And I would add as long as no victim is abused in the process, but that’s fundamental to our system of laws so that’s taken care of too.

That addition takes care of what we need to worry about vs not I think.

Kid, thanks…social issues, YES. And yes, sadly, we’re too far gone.

JMB: that’s what my husband used to say…we will get stuck with bills, though.

ON ANOTHER SUBJECT: I just saw on video the Muslim man who attacked Trump at the DNC last night…”Mr. Trump, do you even have a constitution? I will send you one” His son died protecting other soldiers and got a medal for it…wanted to be a military attorney but died. it was pretty powerful, and Trump has been clumsy, as usual, in describing what he feels our country needs to protect itself, but it was SO written by Hillary supporters….so sickening to see this father’s sad plight used like that.

Ed, One example. obamacare was pushed on the states from the Fed. That wouldn’t happen in my world. Some state could do that if they wanted and good luck keeping your tax paying citizens in your state. Beyond that take a look at the list of federal departments.

Murder, theft – I think I clarified that with the ‘as long as I don’t have to pay for it’ unless I miss your point.

Well, as I mentioned in an earlier blog, both parties have moved to the Left so that now the GOP is what the Dems WERE during JFK’s reign. As for last night, I simply couldn’t watch the witch (with a “B”) and instead watched the Angels beat Kansas City in the bottom of the 9th. That was much more enjoyable! As for the music of the ’60’s, it wasn’t for me, either. It represents the time of rebellion, pot smoking, and moral decline, beginning in 1963 at Cal Berkley by a student named Mario Servio, then followed at Kent State U. and others around the country. Things simply have gone downhill ever since.
Aren’t you sorry you asked, Z?

Still curious, because I think the point is worth consideration…..whether we think everybody’s truly conservative or not (which is, basically, what’s destroying the Conservatives (and got Romney a loss),…this constant “he’s not conservative enough” mantra…we have to get past that and band together like the damned Dems do)….
The point worthy of consideration is:

Nixon, the obvious Conservative in comparison, won in spite of running in REALLY wild times, loose times, HIGHLY dopey-liberal times…..we’re living them again, but we have to now throw muslim terrorism into the mix, which usually makes people go toward the conservatives….DOES TRUMP HAVE A BETTER CHANCE THAN WE THINK , CONSIDERING THAT NIXON ACTUALLY WON BACK IN THE HIPPIE ETHER?

I was around in the 1960’s. The music was OK, but not ‘the greatest.’ I would give that nod to the 1980’s. Case in point: ‘yummy yummy yummy I got love in my tummy…’: The Ohio Express – and in the words of Greg Kihn, ‘they don’t write ’em like that anymore.’

Or, I could perhaps cite the Kingsman’s ‘Louie Louie’ lyrics, pure brilliance. And who could forget ‘Sugar, ah honey honey, you are my candy girl, and you got me wanting you.’ by The Archies, I tell you they just don’t write ’em like that anymore.

Illegal aliens were prominently featured in Monday night’s lineup. Francisca, Carla, and Astrid all managed to get into the convention hall to speak, which was a reported violation of Section 8 U.S. Code 1324 on the part of the Democratic Party. The speakers all seemed to feel that they SHOULD be allowed to stay in the country, but they did not really make much of a case for WHY.

Don’t worry, Hillary said to the illegals. If you’re worrying about deportation, Hillary will now do the worrying for you.

Moody’s is very respected; this is bad news. Economy was one thing I thought I could count on Trump with. Sadly, cutting taxes without revenue is bad for the economy….tariff will be bad. UGH. Businesses don’t like Trump, either….they don’t like NAFTA being undone because there are so many plants and factories in MX, for example…and they hate the tariff idea.

I’m sad about this one………I think Clinton probably listens to experts a bit better and Trump just plain doesn’t. I’m thinking he’s had these ‘big sweeping’ changes in his mind for years and he needs to rethink. I don’t think he does that. 😦

If 45% tariff on Chinese goods, we’d fall into a recession, according to the experts. I hope he’s seeing this and addresses it, not just slams Moody’s every day till Sunday

ALSO: They said last night that FLAGS suddenly sprung up on the DNC floor not so much out of patriotism as was said on the news, but to HIDE THE BERNIE FANS STILL MAKING A FUSS….There were also people yelling WIKI LEAKS WIKI LEAKS as Hillary spoke; cameras never approached THEM, of course. .The flags were circling anarchists, etc……No news covered that. He had a stroke a while before he died probably from being a bit portly so it could’ve started early on with his hands. It must’ve been torture for him when the stroke left him partially paralyzed, rendering him unable to play.
