PRESIDENT: Are we concentrating on the wrong thing?

Whether Trump or Hillary wins (and it looks like she’s going to because he’s giving it to her), should we be concentrating more on CONGRESS than the presidential election?

If Trump does win, fine…Congress should be mostly behind him, though some of his stances are maybe even difficult for the Republicans to swallow as they’re not too based on facts or expertise….but fine…better than Hillary, that’s for sure.

If Hillary wins, we MUST protect the Supreme Court and we MUST make sure her bills are NOT PASSED.

SO, I haven’t a clue how many Congressional positions are open this year, but I’m thinking this presidential hoopla may even be MORE a hoopla in the Leftwing media to keep our minds OFF the Senators and Congressmen running in November.

So far, Trump is putting himself first in slamming, for example, Kelly Ayotte, whose election is very close, and the other guy whose election is close.   He wants to be president more than he wants Republicans holding their offices…which is BAD. Or, more probably, he doesn’t have a clue how all that works.   Thank GOD Paul Ryan’s assured of winning his seat again.  UPDATE:  (I wrote this before Trump’s Wisconsin speech last night): I was listening to Trump’s Wisconsin speech and not only did he support Ryan finally, but he said he also supports Ayotte.  BOY, SOMEBODY GOT TO HIM BIG TIME.  HURRAH!

  1. Senate seats are ALWAYS more important than the POTUS election. Too many people spend their mental bandwidth worrying about who their appointed “leader” is…and the personality and charisma that goes with him/her…or lack of….rather than the duller mechanics of the State. Which is a large part of why we find ourselves in the straits we’re currently in. This is why I want a dull technocrat as POTUS, not someone who styles himself as my “leader”; it will never happen, but I would wish we stop creating self propagating celebrity-worship and “news” cycles out of presidential elections.

  2. bocopro says:

The hoss was led to the water trough and actually took a drink. Now if he’d just accept a coupla sugar cubes and quit bangin his head against the door of the barn . . . . . . .

  3. Like CI said (and Bocopro).

The downticket votes are often straight ticket choices though.
That lever should be removed from the machine. ( yes, I’m that old )

  4. bocopro says:

Yeah, we use fill-in-the-bubble ballots here. I quit readin by the time I get down to the judges and dog catchers and other people I don’t even know. Refuse to endorse unknowns.

When it comes to Congresskritters and such, I’ll vote for the one that I think will do the best job for my interests, and that’s often an Independent . . . almost never a Democrat. But if I don’t know enough to make an informed decision, I leave it blank.

My mother voted straight Republican, and her husband voted straight Democrat . . . just to cancel each other out. My grandparents just hated Democrats. Period. I can still hear my grandfather’s voice sayin, ” Roosevelt’s a sonofabitch!”

My grandmother considered Harry Truman a boob, and what she said about Adlai Stevenson is a classic: “Wa’al I swan! The man’s divorced. A man who can’t run his own household can’t be expected to run the country with any sense.”

Great criteria for performing one’s civic duties, huh?

  5. geeez2014 says:

CI, WE believe that’s more important, most people don’t see it that way; AND WE ALL MUST. I agree with your comments.

bocopro; let’s HOPE he carries on …last night was a fairly good start, even tho the motives for the comments last night were so highly transparent. I think the intervention started FRIDAY 🙂
We use ‘fill in the bubble’ here, too….
I’m not sure that isn’t great criteria, honestly!! 🙂

ED….I never heard of a lever! 🙂 I believe our party needs to remind….how they’d do that without slamming Trump TOO hard is hard to figure. They can’t say “Listen, if you don’t like Trump OR Hillary, make sure you vote for the Republican Senate and House members!”

  6. Cruz infamously encouraged down-ballot voting with his RNC speech,
I heard a local pol in an interview asking people to not vote for a candidate they don’t know, as Bocopro suggests. I dilutes the pool.

  7. Imp says:

    @Z…I thought I read 12.

  8. geeez2014 says:

Ed…Cruz?Ya. he means “Down ballot voting” for the Democrat since I’M not on the ticket” 🙂
I am supposing that local pol is a Republican because we’re the only idiots who encourage NOT being voted for!

    Imp…yikes! thanks.

  9. Mal says:

While its a good thing to have the majority in Congress the same party as the President, a wise President has the character and charisma to reach across the aisle, like Reagan was able to do. with Democrat Majority Leader Tip O’neil. I remember them laughing and joking around with one another. But that was Reagan.

  10. geeez2014 says:

Mal, and NOTHING gets done….when Reagan was there, we had Dems like O’Neal and Moynihan who actually respected the Republicans…that’s TOTALLY GONE now.
And nobody works together, just in case the media says “Schumer on Republican side”: “McCAIN SIDES WITH DEMOCRATS” (which actually does happen)..
    GOD FORBID, right?

  11. bocopro says:

The greatest danger to the American way of life is, of course, Dyslamic terrorism.

However, the greatest danger to the republic itself is the adversarial two-party system.

    John Adams said:

There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution.

    And G. W. said:

The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism. The disorders and miseries, which result, gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual; and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of Public Liberty.

And I agree with ’em both.

  12. Kid says:

Well, today we have the socialist/(light?) communist party and one that seems to still embrace capitalism. Even though most of it is crony capitalism, it’s still better than socialism where you can’t even afford to arm yourself anymore or provide health care. NHS has fallen down and can’t get up.

So I guess there is some value to voting for republicans. I just always vote against democrats and would prefer to vote for genuine Tea Party people. In 2012, the repubs made it harder for others to get on primary ballots and I hate them for that but not quite as much as democrats who have left us wiht every major problem we have today, except for republican administrations ignoring the moslem invasion as well.

I hate to be a downer, but we’ve had the house for 6 years and the senate for 2. What good has it done. They’ve rubber stamped everyhting obama wanted and won’t go after him for (to me) clearly impeachable actions.

I will cast my one vote.

I was thinking this morning that we need some way to get all the comments (filtered) on your post for what Trump should do to Trump some how. Get it to Manafort maybe. If Trump will stop battling idiots he could maybe win

  13. Mal says:

Trump has already been given that message, Kid. Lets just hope he becomes less egotistical and accepts constructive criticism. Bocopro, your quotes about two party systems makes one wonder what would be better. We know a one party doesn’t work, either. As long as no two minds are alike, we’ll never have perfection. It reminds me of an old saying I learned when taking Spanish in Jr. High. “Cada cabesa es un mundo” (not sure of the spelling), translated “Each head is one world.”

  14. Imp says:

@Mal…well we’re surely are all turned off on ‘ego’ after 7 years of Mr. I, I, I, Me, Me, Me…Ovomit, aren’t we?

  15. Imp says:

@Kid…what’s wrong with socialism? 1600% inflation, eating out of dumpsters and garbage cans….the oligarchs and dictators are rich though. I hope to see Venezuela burn down soon… wars and hang every one of those red bastards.

  16. Kid says:

Hugo was such a genius wasn’t he.

  17. Baysider says:

We’ve dumped the first 10 commandments, and now the 11th goes. “Thou shalt speak no evil of another Republican.” We need to take this to heart and in the sense Reagan meant it. The Democrats are always better at enforcing this on their team because they’re already authoritarian oriented.

  18. geeez2014 says:

Imp; I actually heard a leftwinger complain about Trump using “I” too much and thought ‘ARE YOU KIDDIN’ ME??”!!! Obama ALWAYS says “I” “I” “I”…constantly.. or “MY”

Baysider,I couldn’t agree more about the 11th commandment…As I always say here “Republicans eat their young and Dems NEVER part from their message and never talk about each other in public”> you’re so right.

Kid, I love the idea of making a list for that awful Manofort…Honestly, when Trump picked him, I took one look and thought “OH NO” and, when he opened his slimey snake oil Las Vegas mouth, I knew I was right :=-(
Yes, I think we ought to make a list of what Trump has to do.

Last night’s speech in Wisconsin was a good start, actually…sort of. he TOTALLY lied about the ‘baby in the event’ story…TOTALLY lied. He was NOT sweet about kicking the baby out AT ALL ….that bugged me last night.

  19. Z: What that pol meant was when there is a vote and they ask you to vote for up to 4 candidates and you only know of one, don’t select the other 3.
And Cruz was encouraging voting for other repubs on the ticket even if you wouldn’t vote for Trump. Agrees with your post.

  20. Kid says:

Trump Kicked a screaming baby out of an event where he want’s people to hear what he has to say. The problem is with the woman who brought the screaming baby. If you are a woman wiht a baby (maybe you could get a sitter) When the baby starts to scream, you do your duty and get the sucker out of there. You don’t take one to a restaurant either. Unless you’re a clinton supporter.

the hildebeast killed an American Ambassador using Libyans as hit men. In the process of opening up Europe to millions of moslem vermin. If the media would talk about clinton, Trump would look like a saint.

  21. Kid says:

    couldn’t get a sitter.

  22. geeez2014 says:

Kid, I totally get that woman shouldn’t have come with a baby OR taken it out immediately.
I have no problem with him not wanting the baby there, I have a problem with how he did it and how he lied last night in Wisconsin, making it sound like he was SO much nicer than he actually was (on video).
    (PARTICULARLY in restaurants!)

Yes, I agree about how innocent most of Trump’s stuff is compared to THE BEAST!!!!

  23. Mal says:

AMEN, IMP! Almost anyone will be an improvement…….(almost, I said! Not Hillary, though).

  24. bocopro says:

Not Trump, so not precisely on topic, but still germane, methinks. Wrote it several months ago, ’bout the time Trey Gowdy initiated his ill-fated “investigation” into Shrillary’s catastastrokes involving Benghazi and e-mails and such:

    Slimy Dancer

Pants suit bimbo, soul in Limbo, bad mouth of the land
Serpent eyed, doublewide, married a flim-flam man
Satan’s sister, you can’t have missed her, cankles thick and grand
Now she’s running, lawsuits shunning, ‘fraid to take the stand

    Left-wing creeps in the press
    Giving passes out for fun
    Softball questions, GOP mess
The media just aren’t that bad

    Delete e-mails, “I am female,”
    Congress has no clues
Skewing on she sings her song
The lies she knows, the tune she spews

And now it’s just my turn
    Me and my Slick Willy
Dems will get all hot and silly
When they vote I’ll hear them say

    Wealth reshuffle, slimy dancer
Screw the bodies in your background
Hide your faults in revised memos
In just 6 months you will be crowned.

    Repeat . . . . . . . . . . . . ’cause I’m just as lazy as Elton.

  25. bocopro says:

Hmmm . . . in case the vid doesn’t come thru, it’s “Tiny Dancer” by Elton John, in case you hafta call it up to sing along with it.

  26. Imp says:

Z…here’s the real scoop on the baby thing…

“One thing I want to mention is the baby crying, because that has been national news. Contrary to news stories, it was a very funny thing, Trump was very supportive of the mom calling her and her baby “beautiful” and “wonderful”, and then when the baby kept crying he turned it into a joke. Everyone was laughing and it was actually very endearing and funny. Not at all anti mom or anti baby like the media has portrayed it to be.

Which brings me to the final point: I was there and saw and heard the entire event with the mom and baby. There was nothing to it. But then after I’m reading all the news coverage saying “Trump hates moms and babies!!!” I started to doubt myself. Did I really miss a huge story right in front of me? I started asking others who were there, including a husband and wife with young kids. And everyone in the room said the same thing: there was no story here. Trump was being funny and personable and going out of his way to make sure the mom wasn’t embarrassed by making it a funny situation. My conclusion is that the media is selling us a narrative. Be very skeptical of what the media is telling you, because I saw it with my own eyes and it was something very different.”

  27. Kid says:

IMP, This is also what I heard. Didn’t bother bringing it up. Just yesterday I was yet another article about Zimmerman where they continued to post a picture of Trayvon at 13 years of age.

Pure evil. Balls to the wall. Total war. Can we win? Maybe but its going to take a whole lot of people who are not swayed by the media. I don’t think they are out there in sufficient numbers.

  28. geeez2014 says:

Imp; please…I’ve watched the baby video 3 times…he lied last night….In reality, he had said he loves cute babies…minutes later, he actually said “I lied…” and get the baby out.

    please watch this.

Kid, please watch that video for what happened.

Look, it’s not such a big thing to argue about, but there’s seeing things with your own eyes and hearing a rendition that doesn’t quite fit. No biggie, but let’s not avoid the truth.

  29. geeez2014 says:

He sounds completely NUTS at :40…then listen to 1:20 “I THINK SHE REALLY BELIEVED ME THAT I LIKE HAVING A BABY CRYING WHILE I’M SPEAKING”.
Last night in Wisconsin, it was “I asked her PLEASE PlEASE, I was so nice…Please ..”

  30. geeez2014 says:

bocopro…great lyrics to TINY DANCER 🙂 Thanks for posting them here!

  31. geeez2014 says:

Now the Los Angeles mayor is saying that if Trump wins it’ll be fairly certain we’ll lose the Olympics bid (Please, God..although it was FABULOUS here last time we had it in, I think, 1984..everybody’d left town)….He feels other countries won’t come because Trump is anti immigrants. What a filthy liar and hack my mayor is.

  32. Baysider says:

There is something about an abrasive personality like Trump. You can’t quite put your finger on it, but I worked for a man who would be described in many of these same terms. VERY loyal employees – and clients, I might add – who did not take umbrage. He made outrageous comments but it was SO CLEAR that these were not meant to be taken the way they might from the mouths of 100 other people.

What made that successful was knowing the man up close. If all we had was what played in the media, he would have been out of work. Trump is used to having the kind of reception this good man had. But he’s not handling the transition to a critical stage in the leftie media well.

  33. Imp says:

Who the hell has the stupidity to bring an infant or a crying kid to a gig like that anyway? They have a 2 minute attention span….Maybe Trump needs to set up a kindergarten and daycare tent at his venues now? Maybe he’ll get more Latinos and blacks to attend?

  34. geeez2014 says:

Baysider, that’s right…Trum p is used to being the BIG KINGPIN and hasn’t humility or, seemingly, much compassion. He’s simply not understanding his role now…am hoping the “intervention” went well and people are telling him how he has to act, what parts of his personality he needs to bring out. I’m convinced there’s something nice in there and he needs to SHOW IT!

Imp…Good comment. Look, I don’t really care, it just bugged me to see how ‘nice’ he said he’d been and for me to have seen the truth. BUT, you know? I think he DID think he’d been nice. It occurred to me watching the video again that he’s just not that used to dealing with lots of people like this, of differing walks of life; he’s used to dealing with the elite.
He can change, I think…and, if he does, quickly, he has a chance of winning people over again.
He simply can’t have a week as bad as this last one again.

  35. With all the discussion over the baby incident I have to add my 2 cents. The mother sent a letter to CNN or some other news media, I forget which, explaining how innocent this was. SHE took the whole thing as him kidding her and actually reliving her stress level. She never left!! She went to the back and stood with a group of police and claims she had a GREAT time! What many seem to forget is that Trump has a weird sense of humor and that gets him in trouble often times.

What happened to Trump in Wisconsin? Ivanka and/or Eric had a heart to heart with him and probably scolded the shit out of him! He NEEDS to have one of them be his sounding board on whatever he plans to say—–and then LISTEN AND ACCEPT their critique!!!! Maybe a GD dogs shock collar would come in handy. He starts to say something stupid and one of them gives him a good hard jolt of electric shock!! He needs to believe that oft times, “LESS IS MORE”!!!! Less talking = more chance of winning!!!!!!!!!!!!! If he keeps pissing people off, killery WILL be the next POTUS and it will be ALL HIS FAULT!

Just so you all know, I hate killery and I despise the trumper, but I have decided to go plug my nose, LITERALLY, and fill in the Trump oval, unless he keeps pissing me off, then my vote goes to either Johnson—-or MISTY, my dog!

  36. This is not the thing I was looking for, but it gives a little insight into the crying baby thingie:

I read the actual letter the Mom wrote but can not find it now. Damn CRS! (Can’t Remember Shit)
