Bikinis and Islam

This is a fascinating subject to me because I’d not really sure where I stand on it.

The Muslim mayor of London (did I really just type that?) has said THIS.   NO MORE BIKINI CLAD MODELS IN PUBLIC, PLEASE!  And he’s taken action.

bikini burka

I was at a beach club the other evening and my hostess said “I don’t know why those young girls even have anything on,” and, indeed, they had, for all practical purposes, pasties and a G string on…barely…playing volleyball, romping in the water with young boys and parents…NO PROBLEM!  Except they were all nearly naked.

Where do you stand on this?  Will Miss America’s Pageant someday feature nude women, because to think of the awful, long bathing suits they started in and the “progression,” up till today, where do they go from here?

Let’s talk about something other than POLITICS!  Or IS this political!?  “Sharia Law, anyone?” (shudder)

  1. Khan’s explanation for his opposition to such ad’s sounds exactly like someone might say in small town America. As long as we have advertising, we’ll have sexualization of the human body, and we’ll generally titter like 3rd graders about it.

  2. bocopro says:

Though I’m by no means offended by attractive young women advertising their assets, I can do without it. To me a well-shaped young women is most alluring in a Grecian style ankle-length flowing gown bunched just below the breasts with both arms and one shoulder bare.

I have no objection to women wearing utilitarian suits or uniforms while performing their duties as brokers or hygienists or police officers or nurses, but once the job is finished I have no objections to their shifting to tight-fittin’ jeans and a chambray shirt knotted at the navel. Sweaters are good, too, even sweatshirts if it’s cool out.

Complete absence of clothing, however, DOES bother me, regardless of gender. I mean, c’mon . . . some people just aren’t designed for streaking. You can be nude, and tastefully so given the proper circumstances . . . you can be naked, which means you are exposed or vulnerable . . . or you can be nekkid, meanin’ you ain’t got no clothes on and you is up to somethin.

As with romance, where the thrill is in the courtship, the anticipation, the hunt . . . a major part of the feminine charm is the mystery, the craving, the imagination. Once the fox has been trapped and blood is shed, the hunt kinda goes downhill, don’t it? Until the next time, of course.

I appreciate the female form, but don’t want to see it defenseless; I’d rather see it in a proper-sized half-shirt or tank-top and spandex leggings. Otherwise, a nice skirt, or slacks, and a simple blouse with minimal bling does it for me if that Grecian gown and sandals aren’t appropriate or available.

For the record, I do NOT approve of full-body shrouds for women, and for my two cents’ worth, hiding a woman’s natural face-framing device under some kind of bag or even a nice scarf should be a whipping offense . . . for the guy who demands it.

  3. fredd says:

I’m weighing in on the side of Osama. Would a little modesty kill these gals? I mean, just a little?

Burkhas? Maybe not. But if we all went back to the styles that were popular in the 1930’s, I could live with that.

Then again, if liberals had any brains, they’d be reasonable, and we all know that is just living in fairy tale land.

  4. Adrienne says:

Daily Mail had an article about the difference in dress between the Muslim and American beach volley ball players at the Olympics. The Muslims were shrouded in some sort of long john looking outfit and the Americans. were practically nude. They both looked ridiculous. How about we find a middle ground?

In my opinion most women today look like total slobs. Unkempt hair, tacky clothes, and covered in tattoos. Ugh. The young men don’t look any better.

Bocopro said it well. There is no longer any mystery.

  5. Mal says:

The difference is what culture we grew up in. Take some uncivilized tribe in the middle of the jungle, for example. No clothes. No problem. They have never seen clothing, ergo, have no shame or embarrassment. In the early 1930’s they wrote a song “Anything goes.” The lyrics said “In olden days a glimpse of stocking was looked on as something shocking, now heaven knows. Anything goes.” Muslim culture forbids seeing the female body so they cover it up. This, I believe, leads to all the raping and ravaging going on in other cultures. The two are incompatible and should be kept separate.

  6. John M. Berger says:

“In my opinion most women today look like total slobs. Unkempt hair, tacky clothes, and covered in tattoos. Ugh”
Perhaps, [that] element would be well advised to wear the Burka; at least, in public!

  7. Sparky says:

Even though I’m not into public nudity, I do believe in freedom, so, for me, definitely on the side of the bikini. The Mooslims can take their cult and go back to pounding sand in their own country. *wink*

  8. geeez2014 says:

Sparky and others, yes, I’m not sure this should be presented as “BIKINI VS BURKA”…maybe it should be more a question of common sense…….young girls don’t need to be running around with string on them. It’s just stupid.

Mal’s right; they have no clue what they’re doing…it’s all the know…and mothers don’t seem to get it..or I’ve heard mothers say “But that’s all they sell in the stores anymore”…and just go for it….”oh, well..”

Kids are FAR FAR more into porno than most of you know, sadly. I know because I’m associated with a high school….one teacher told me a young Christian girl told her she couldn’t close her eyes without seeing porn that she’d looked at with friends…..over and over again, because it’s cool. Kids have .laptops at school….I see them showing other kids their screens at lunch time “look at THIS!”…and it gets shut the minute we approach………it’s bad. It’s ubiquitous….it’s damaging them badly in every way.

Wearing nearly no clothes on the beach? What do they care?

One very cool, handsome, hip son of a friend of mine started his summer at the beach with this comment when he got home “Mom, I don’t even want to see that much of girls I’m just friends with at school, it’s embarrassing and uncomfortable.” And this kid is not some little nerd..no way.

But this is all too late…..it’s happening. There’s no going back and I’m not sure where this goes…but nude. I cringe watching girls’ volleyball sometimes…yikes! I laughed when I saw a picture of a swim team of guys……I didn’t even know guys COULD wear anything that tiny and be ‘covered’…I had no idea and I burst into unbelieving laughter!!

  9. Kid says:

Well, it depends on the venue but generally speaking i prefer to see women in attractive clothes though those clothes can be brief if the woman is suited for it.

I wouldn’t have a problem with a nude beach if I was 35 again and everyone else was say under 40 but am totally against it anywhere in Cincinnati because there just aren’t any good looking people here.

As a kind of aside, I recently read a story about several parks around London and England for that matter where people go what they call “dogging”. This means they have totally nude sex on the grass in public and most of the people who go there are “pensioners” Yikes !

  10. geeez2014 says:

Very late at night once, when I was living in Paris, I got up and turned on TV…clicked through channels and settled on a channel because i had no idea what I was looking at…it was porn. The most CLOSE UP picture of anything sexual I’d ever seen….I LITERALLY had no idea what it was because it was SO CLOSE…..and when I realized what I’d been looking at, I thought “That’s SEXY?”
    No….

Bocopro’s right; where there’s no sexy mystery, there’s nothing to get the heart pounding!

I’m going to say something VERY CONTROVERSIAL here and will be happy, probably, that most don’t read my comments (Ya, I know that!); no wonder so many of our kids are gay.

    That’s all………

  11. geeez2014 says:

Kid; you are HILARIOUS !”I am totally against it anywhere in Cincinnati because there just aren’t any good looking people here.” SO FUNNY!
I once told a friend that the locker room at my gym could put ANYBODY off sex FOREVER after one look around!!!! HA!

“DOGGING”? man. In Germany, people leave their offices at lunchtime, go to a nearby park and the girls’ll take their blouse off and sunbathe…kind of behind trees, etc.,…but they are used to that; Americans simply are not. But having sex outside with people watching?
No wonder they call it DOGGING…they are simply not human beings with any appreciation that sex isn’t always just the physical feeling…I feel sorry for them.

Once, a girlfriend introduced me to her girlfriend ..her friend started telling us at lunch about very intimate details of sex with her new boyfriend (yes, it was a little uncomfortable and just plain ICKY to me…I didn’t know her and that’s pretty private in my opinion)…”this is THE GUY” she told us. I said “I don’t think so….when it’s really someone we care about, we don’t usually talk about our intimacy with that person…it’s too special ..and personal…” My friend wasn’t happy with me, thought I was judging her friend , etc….a month later she called and said she’d broken up with him….ya, it’s GREAT for a month or so, but not what keeps us together….

  12. Kid says:

“I didn’t even know guys COULD wear anything that tiny and be ‘covered’

    Well some guys, mostly democrats…

  13. Kid says:

Z, I’m serious about Cincinnati. I see one attractive person a month maybe.

I saw a vid somewhere explaining that women aren’t interested in porn. True – no male strip clubs, no male nude male magazines outside of gay I guess. Burt Reynolds in Cosmo was about as far as it goes, but it seems like young girls are interested in porn these days? Yea, I think it is destructive to the relationship now or in the future for them.

It also seems girls are wearing less and less because of competition with other girls?

  14. geeez2014 says:

Kid, that’s a VERY interesting hypothesis…they probably ARE wearing less in competition….
I know my nephews tell me that girls are so ‘aggressive’ to them they’re not really interested in the girls…that is SAD.

I made up a saying about 20 years ago, which is “Girls have made their bed and now they have to sleep in it”….metaphorically, yup. Not a good bed to be in. (don’t get me wrong, it’s great for 15 minutes! but…) HAA!!

I once was talking to a class about a book they’d read and we got on the subject of sexuality….so I ALWAYS (I can’t help myself) bring that subject into the present…(the book was 100 years old)…I told them how when I was their age, we’d date in groups and have a blast…girls didn’t feel they had to ‘do anything’ but have fun and flirt and hope he’d ask you to go steady !, (and particularly not the ‘anything’ I’m alluding delicately to here which can keep them from getting pregnant, ifyouknowwhatimeanandithinkyoudo!), and asked my kids in class if they’d rather those days or what they’ve got now.
“How many wish it was like that now?” 90% of them raised their hands, guys included.
I swear I think a couple of GIRLS were those not raising their hands.
We had one girl a few years ago whose mother got angry because some teacher in her class was advising girls to wait (this kids are 16, etc.) on sex….the mother got mad and said “She’s a female and deserves to explore as she sees fit”…and the wild thing is this girl wouldn’t be sexually active if her life depended on it…she was absolutely beautiful, very into theatre and talented, got straight As and just didn’t even WANT to do anything… some mother.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH MMMEEEE? I JUST GOT WHAT YOU MEANT! HAAAAAAAAAAAA!!

  16. geeez2014 says:

Trump is speaking and just said “IF I GET IN..” I am not sure I’ve heard a president NOT say ‘WHEN I AM ELECTED”…particularly with his ego. “IF I get in..?”
He’s talking about miners and fumbling for words and then he repeats what he just said ‘It’s a disaster…….it’s a disaster… it’s unbelievable..it’s unbelievable….”
When I think of the debates……….oy

  17. John M. Berger says:

    QUESTION:
Has the picture above been photo shopped? Why, why would anyone want to sit on a beach, on a hot day, attired in a black garment that would probably create an internal temperature of 120 degrees and would, surely, interdict any thoughts of swimming?

  18. Baysider says:

I prefer modesty, and that varies by culture and season. Agree with JMB, and Sparky + 1. But enforcing modesty like THIS isn’t the way.

It goes hand in hand with ‘virtue’ and – yea – springs from virtue. Developing a culture with virtue was a key concern for the founders of our republic, for virtue is necessary for men to voluntarily limit some of their actions for the sake of others without the power of law forcing them to.

  19. geeez2014 says:

JMB! NO, they DO go to the beach like that….don’t forget, they’re mostly from VERY HOT COUNTRIES and are used to it….In Nice, France, there’s been BIG trouble by Arabs taking over the expensive villas and keeping scantily clad French girls OFF THEIR SAND!

Baysider…No, we can’t enforce modesty, sadly…because virtue isn’t coming back…so that’s the end of modesty.

  20. John M. Berger says:

“they DO go to the beach like that”

OMG, it looks like something that would be fatal to dogs and small children!

  21. John M. Berger says:

OK, I’ve been somewhat reticent to pass judgment on “BIKINI CLAD MODELS IN PUBLIC”. However, at least, one redeeming quality just may be that a burgeoning trend toward [that] just may serve to reverse some of the disgusting trend identified herein by Adrienne and Kid. Really, which would anyone rather see?

  22. geeez2014 says:

JMB:!! ARGH!! We’re busy here…which trend id’d by Adrienne and Kid? I’m tired and so busy and don’t want to read all the comments again! Help me 🙂

Read my new blog post…..OMG OMG Trump is DENYING the Secret Service has talked to his campaign about the 2nd amendment comment he made. Oh, no……… He’s saying the SS lied.

  23. John M. Berger says:

    @Z,
    Help me:-)

    @Adrienne :

“In my opinion most women today look like total slobs. Unkempt hair, tacky clothes, and covered in tattoos. Ugh.”

    @Kid:

“I wouldn’t have a problem with a nude beach if I was 35 again and everyone else was say under 40 but am totally against it anywhere in Cincinnati because there just aren’t any good looking people here.”

  24. geeez2014 says:

Ah, the disturbing trend of ugly people baring their bodies…good point, and thanks, John!

  25. Years ago when I got out of the Air Force I drove with a friend of mine cross country and we went to California. While there, someone told us of a nude beach and we thought that might be a kick. So we went.
We didn’t look around much, mostly swimming, and I’m blind without my glasses, but as we left I grabbed my camera and took pictures. When they were developed I realized almost everybody on the beach were dudes.

  26. geeez2014 says:

    Ed, that’s funny!

Kid and Ed…..nude beaches are FINE with me…because I’d rather see young women a little more covered than they are these days doesn’t mean I don’t ‘get’ why people like being nudists, or whatever…….as long as everybody knows it’s a nude beach and that’s why they go there….. NO PROBLEM..

Bocopro put put it with with “I appreciate the female form, but don’t want to see it defenseless;”.

    Amen to that…
