Georgetown: REPARATIONS?

“Georgetown University will give preference in admissions to the descendants of slaves owned by the Maryland Jesuits as part of its effort to atone for profiting from the sale of enslaved people, the president of the prominent Jesuit university in Washington announced Thursday.”

Read THIS and tell us what you think………

“We must acknowledge that Georgetown University participated in the institution of slavery,” DeGioia said at a campus gathering on Thursday. “There were slaves here on this hilltop until emancipation in 1862.””    They’re saying this is NOT reparations.

  1. It’s certainly the right of a private institution; they’ve been giving this sort of preferential treatment to “legacies” for years. I’d like to see the University of Notre Dame give preferential admission to the descendants of impoverished Irish immigrants of the 1880’s.

  2. Lana Hessenius says:

I think this is absolutely ridiculous, Our country will never get over “racial” issues until we quit doing this.

  3. geeez2014 says:

yes, it’s the right of any private institution to do pretty much anything it wants to do.
Do you agree when they say this is not reparations?

Perhaps some might believe that Black college applicants’ lives were scarred by what happened to their ancestors 180 years ago. And they might have a point….but we see so many Blacks overcame that in the last many years that I’m not sure.

You don’t really see any correlation with this reparation-like treatment of Blacks in America and an (Irish) American university showing preference to the IRish, right?!!

  4. geeez2014 says:

Lana, I think this kind of thing constantly reinforces ‘the divide,’ that’s seeming to become worse and worse these last 8 years or so, too.

  5. It’s their right to act as stupid as they want.
It’s donor’s and alumni’s rights to recognize that stupidity and withdraw support.

    Is it reparation?
the making of amends for a wrong one has done, by paying money to or otherwise helping those who have been wronged.

  6. Mrs Grundy says:

It isn’t reparations because none of the scholarship applicant’s will have the SAT scores needed to get in. As it stands today only 6% of Georgetown’s students are African American. The “pool” of “qualified” African American applicants is already infinitesimally small, without adding a further “genetic-specific” qualification to it.

  7. Kid says:

There is no solution to the racil divide now that barry and co have done their work. And I’ll bet most of them will convert to islam because islam hates American values. This will give them another angle to elevate their hate of America and whitey.

  8. Mal says:

A hundred years from now African American’s will probably still be griping unless we quit rewarding them by giving in, otherwise the demands will never end. How about suggesting we will gladly return them to Africa with airfare paid! If not, shut the H up!

  9. Kid says:

MAL, I suspect many of our ancestors were slaves to corporate America too. Ala, the documentary fo Ford in the early days. Working 16 hrs a day for squat. We got over it didn’t we.
    It’s history.

I agree, they want to be African. They take African names and culture. Our frequent waitress at Ruby Tuesday is named Neffertitu.

Send them back and even buy them a plot of land with a house on it. Over the long term, it would be to our incredible benefit.

  10. Kid says:

    Neffertiti actually

  11. bocopro says:

I posted this several hours ago here, but it obviously didn’t take:

The 3rd Millennium Four Horsemen of the American Apocalypse:

    Political Correctness
    White Guilt
    Entitlement Programs
    National Debt

PC rides in wearing a masque atop a cresting wave of euphemistic drivel which dilutes self-respect and drowns integrity

WG lurks at the boundaries of the modern plantation on which minorities have been quarantined since the 60s by Democrats and pelts them with wads of currency

EPs infiltrate nuclear families, hypnotize child athletes, and lure school dropouts with Food Stamps and Welfare into gangs in housing-subsidized ghettos

ND falls on the next generation, suffocating it with economic recession, failing infrastructure, and bills it has no means of paying

  12. geeez2014 says:

Actually, there are really decent Black Americans who’re more American than I am, having come from a mother raised in Cairo and a father who was only 2nd generation American.

Maybe we’re putting too much blame on the Black kids and not enough on Georgetown’s loony leftwing Board who decided to do this?

    Kid, NEFFERTITI?! 🙂

Mrs. Grundy…I have no idea what you’re saying.
What’s that mean…is it right, or are you?

  13. geeez2014 says:

NOW the BIG news on CNN is that the Black pastor who spoke at the RNC convention and appears and speaks at big Trump events is a total liar.
I just saw the interview and the way Burns answered to the interviewer….it was FAR WORSE than this article.

Does ANYBODY vet ANYBODY in the Trump campaign? This is humiliating…again.

And, the timing is perfect; The BLACK CNN Interviewer got a scoop on a BLACK Trump surrogate as Trump’s trying to make inroads in a BLACK Detroit church this very morning.
Congrats, CNN….your smear campaign is HOT and WORKING. And CONSTANT.

I dare ANY of you to have the curiosity to watch CNN for only 4 minutes…I don’t think there’s been a time in the last month or so that I have clicked onto CNN and not seen a CRITICIZE TRUMP PANEL or STORY…..It’s like NOTHING else exists.
OH! They’re on the storm now… must be killing them.

Any liberal ought to be fighting for a producer’s job at CNN; a place where you can voice your own politics and ideology through CNN experts who back it up and through weak folks from the other side who try hard to make points…and don’t. Bliss!!

  14. CNN is the only US cable news channel that I can hear to watch. I don’t find them to be overwhelmingly liberal, certainly no more biased than Fox is. But then again, I’m generally disgusted by the sensationalist infotainment media that passes for journalism in this country.

  15. geeez2014 says:

CI, no, CNN is absolutely overwhelmingly liberal….although I find Anderson Cooper fair often times…And even Smerconish CAN ask a rational, unbiased question. They’re definitely no less biased than FOX is.
Where CNN totally wins is that they keep excellent guests on more than from commercial to commercial…FOX is maddening as they have excellent interviews which, just as you start to get interested, are cut short because they have a ‘hard break’ and “have to say goodbye…always nice to see you!”. THAT is maddening so I choose to watch CNN more lately.
But to say they’re any less liberal than FOX is conservative doesn’t wash. And I watch with a hyper critical eye.

What I DO appreciate about FOX is that they’ll dare cover Hillary …. at all. CNN barely mentions her, even among all these problems. I even heard one female interviewer tell a Conservative who’d said “But you’re not covering the Clinton information much here at CNN”, “oh, yes, we covered that so much last week”, and I thought “No, you did NOT, and LAST WEEK? It’s still in the news, lady!”

  16. Imp says:

@CI..Here here. And free Guinness and Finnerty single malt scotch.

  17. geeez2014 says:

That Hillary ad with Trump saying “I’d bomb the F (they don’t play the word, but he says the whole four letters)” is pretty bad….Or “I know ISIS better than the Generals do, BELIEVE ME”.. UGH.

How awful for a presidential candidate to speak to thousands at an event and not realize you don’t say F*** where women and children are….

  18. Being an American has nothing to do with place of birth or generational heritage.
Being an American is adhering to the ideals of the American Founding as best evidenced in the Declaration. And adherence to the Charter of the nation, our Constitution.
There are newly arrived immigrants who are more American than some Daughters of the Revolution or descendants of the Mayflower.

  19. Baysider says:

Not reparations. Exactly what bocopro said – and said so WELL! Sniveling ersatz guilt – “we wanna feel good” (not do good).

  20. The beauty of perception of media bias is that it resides in the eye or ear of the beholder. Trump is virtually writing Clintons campaign ads.

  21. Kid says:

    bocopro – word

    Z – Mgr calls her T

CI – Yea, Trump has been running hilrods campaign for her so far Also, CNN recently admitted that they lie and will do anything to keep Trump out of the white house. I call that over the top liberal. Link? No, don’t have one and not gonna look.

  22. Kid says:

Also, any black person who wanted reparations Already Got Them. It’s called Welfare.

  23. geeez2014 says:

Ed, yes, but that’s not my point….I get tired of hearing how all of Black America needs more than others when most of them, whose families are here for 200 years, are doing just fine. We only hear about these ridiculous things like Georgetown is pulling….again, to make Blacks look more needy based on their ancestors’ bad starts.

Baysider and Ed, of course it’s, literally, reparations, and that’s why I published this…the very idea that they deny that is ludicrous. But, OF COURSE< I TOTALLY get what Bocopro wrote and TOTALLY agree….

CI…I think that perception of bias only lies in the eye or ear of the beholder if the beholder isn't open to realizing what's bias and what isn't.
And yes, it's TRUMP who is responsible for the most effective Clinton ads….he actually is writing them, you are so right.

  24. geeez2014 says:

Kid…I guess it’s better than calling her TITI! 🙂
The snickering on CNN for anything Republican cracks me up…they’ll literally giggle at things that make them uncomfortable. Ya, they’re ALL OUT FOR HILLARY….and it NEVER ENDS on CNN….they barely covered the storms this morning…

  25. Kid says:

Z, and anyone who is interested about single payer health care.

England’s NHS is coming apart at the seams and has been. Just google NHS.

    Some quick bites…
-They have a Goal of getting peoplke in hospital i 18 weeks. Emergencies are handled quicker so they say.
    – A man with a broken leg was refused HC becuase he was a smoker.
    – Doctors with up to 14 years experience (called junior doctors) have been pushed to the point that they say they can’t even afford an apartment in London area and so have to move to the boonies and drive further. A doctor who can’t afford an apartment. And people think this will maintain good healthcare? In America, it means you will be operated on by doctor keyshawn and will have a limb cut off instead of what you were there for. Happens too much now. Imagine McDonalds level workers as doctors.
    – In America health care will become unbelievably expensive both directly and through taxation which the media will be more than happy to yap about. This will create more divisions in American society. Fat? Smoker? Perceived as an unhealthy person? get ready for the onslaught of violence from our tolerant left millennials and all the rest of the fascist left.

  26. Single Payer works so well at the VA, though.

  27. geeez2014 says:

Kid, I have heard all that and MORE about the NHS…it’s a nightmare. In Canada, it’s pretty good UNLESS YOU’RE VERY ILL, then it’s TOUGH to get treated in time…otherwise, if you have a bad neck or something, I know PT is totally paid for and not just the measly 15 visits our healthcare gives us (per person a year, NOT per injury! You believe that!? STUPID!)….

Ya, our system would work if the Left would get away from it and let competition rule, along with some ethics that have been missing here for some time…..and along with intelligent ideas …

Honestly , the CNN Special I just saw on Cuban healthcare had some pretty darned good stuff in it….they’ve even invented vaccines there which are being touted around the world. Doctors make house calls in neighborhoods… wouldn’t work here, but it was very interesting….
I started watching with a jaundiced eye but Sanjay Gupta made some good points about how Cuban single-payer works for them…..

  28. Baysider says:

Besides, very few of us can trace our ancestry – by name – to 1860. It’s a safe offer, because they will never be able to know a descendant of a slave who worked there.

  29. And free Guinness and Finnerty single malt scotch.

    You have my attention!

  30. I think that perception of bias only lies in the eye or ear of the beholder if the beholder isn’t open to realizing what’s bias and what isn’t.

That can certainly be true for some…just as an inability to not see confirmation bias for what it is, is true for others.

  31. Bob says:

I think it is very good of Georgetown to admit to ancient sins. It does no favors for the reputation of the Roman Catholic Church, and it does no favors for the reputations of Jesuits.

If Georgetown wants to dedicate it’s respectable resources to giving black people superior educations, I think that’s a good idea.

Georgetown also owes the nation an apology for accepting and educating Bill Clinton, the most corrupt president in history. Clinton also reveled in the Catholic doctrine that oral sex is not real sex, and therefore not a sin. Georgetown directly contributed in the lowering of the bar for the Office of President of The United States.

It is time for Georgetown to pay the piper.

  32. Kid says:

Baysider, I’ve traced my ancestry back to Aristotle. fwiw. And it may not be accurate.

  33. bocopro says:

I’ve traced my ancestry back to a buncha Irish, Scots, English, and German immigrants, many of whom were ridge-runners, hillbillies, horse thieves, and various miscreants. My mother threw one of ’em in jail (my father) when I was around 6 months old for asking her to fence stuff he’d stolen from a train yard.

Still, my G-A-S meter is far from pegged and I’ve never had to back up to a pay window for my check or blush when I see my reflection in a mirror.

Life’s a bi— and then you die. One thing I’m absolutely certain of is that none of my forebears ever owned slaves . . . a still or two, and maybe a horse that didn’t belong to ’em, but no slaves.

  34. Kid says:

No slaves here either in family history at least since settling in America. We were All born as poor black childs and had to work our way up.

  35. My ancestry is Scottish or immigrants through Canada and French-Canadian fur trappers. No reparations from this guy.

  36. I’ve traced my ancestry to California, a small former mining town in Pennsylvania.
My grandpa kept mum about why he came here and never talked about it.
My mom’s parents however were booked on the Titanic, but missed it because their furniture didn’t sell on time, so they are listed on the manifest of both the Titanic and the Oceania.
    Beyond that, nada.
    None of them owned slaves.

  37. geeez2014 says:

CI, it’s difficult for you to believe anybody with a one-sided blog could find bias in its own, or not recognize it in herself. Confirmation bias is , a bit, in all of us, and I take special care in ascertaining any bias in myself.

Thanks for all your comments, everybody…
Ed, there is a small mining town in PA called California? Wishful thinking? 🙂

BOB “If Georgetown wants to dedicate it’s respectable resources to giving black people superior educations, I think that’s a good idea.” I can’t argue that…I just wish they gave it to those young black kids who actually deserved a superior education and EARNED IT on their own…there are PLENTY who have, aren’t there. “The descendants of slaves”. what rubbish.

  38. geeez2014 says:

Why would a black minister-supporter-team member of Trump find out dirt on Pastor Mark Burns, another Black minister who’s lied a LOT on his webpage about his background etc., and go to CNN with the dirt?

And why in heaven’s name do I keep hearing EDUCATION REFORM as the thing that’s going to fix filthy inner cities? Do you agree with that?

  39. Sparky says:

What Georgetown is doing is practicing true racism. Let them live with the consequences. It will not end well.

  40. Why would a……..

Either he could be a Clinton plant, or the entire campaign is a stalking horse to elect Hillary. I’m increasingly leaning towards the latter, however conspiratorial it may sound.

  41. bocopro says:

Anyone who deliberately lies on or inflates his CV or resume should have his birthday revoked, his tongue glued to his forehead, and his name chiseled on the courthouse metope with a heavy line scratched through it.

Then he should be publicly spanked, daily at morning colors, noon, and evening colors. And THEN anyone whose job he purloined by falsified boxtops can take over the retribution.

This policy should apply equally to lawyers, doctors, congressmen, judges, professors, and pretenders to the Oval Office. Secretaries of State and PotUSes who lie to the American people directly or indirectly through Congress should be staked out on fire-ant mounds, nekkid, for 10 minutes a day for one week for each lie of which they are found guilty.

I’m not quite sure what to do with Gropey Joe, tho . . . ’cause I think it taxes his mental capacity to constantly distinguish between delusion and plain ol’ party performance. Maybe he thinks it’s all just a cabaret. Maybe a nice cup of ipecac every mornin right after he knots his tie for the day.

  42. Kid says:

Z, “Education Reform”, just like “Comprehensive Immigration Reform” is a useless term designed to make idiots think the government is doing something about something. They aren’t doing jack about nuthin. and the added Comprehensive is a further clue as to how much they aren’t doing about jack.

  43. Kid says:

All the required and sensible laws regards immigration are already in place. The country just needs to follow them.

  44. Kid says:

bocopro. yes, bring back the stocks. Paddles of various sorts hanging at the side waiting for a citizen to make use.

  45. Kid says:

For anyone who hasn’t seen it… This is quite refreshing. Trey Gowdy tells a moron congressman to shut up.

  46. bocopro says:

‘sTruth, Kid, c’est vrai . . . es la verdad.

We don’t need more laws, we need to resurrect common sense.

  47. geeez2014 says:

CI, I’m actually starting to believe that, too. WHY ELSE would SO many things be happening for their side? (other than Trump is a CLOD)…There are many things he could be saying about facts in the email/Benghazi situations but he doesn’t..Makes a lot of my friends curious.

Kid and Bocopro…amen to resurrecting common sense. I WISH Trump would hammer on the fact regarding the laws ALREADY ON THE BOOKS, instead, he’;s making himself look even WORSE by acting like the immigration laws are his idea and everybody gets nuts about them…”BIGOT ! ! RACIST!”

EVERYBODY: Could you go back to mentioning the time of a comment you’re responding to? like “Z at 10:30”? I can’t go back to reading all of them to see what a response is referring to and I think we’d all like to know 🙂

  48. Kid says:

    Parece simple no lo hace

  49. Kid says:

Z, Good point at 5:24. I fear the majority do not even know what the immigration laws are. Sacre Bleu.

  50. Kid says:

As a bonue question, Who think hank the moron johnson is doing the lovely young woman to his left. Apologies to Mademoiselles especially Mon Amies….

  51. geeez2014 says:

Kid..”Nothing is simple?” WHAT’s that mean? Or “Nothing can be simple?”

GREAT VIDEO…that Johnson is a TOTAL JERK, SO smarmy, SO insulting “Well, you’re a Republican..” to a WITNESS? WHAT A FREAKIN’ JERK!

And WHY is Johnson SO UPSET that they can protect their swat teams with mine resistant ambush-resistant vehicles….Does he not GET what they FACE down there? “Why do you need it in order to enforce border security?” Umm…maybe because AMERICAN COPS HAVE FAMILIES TOO AND WOULD LIKE TO SURVIVE, YOU JERK!??

  52. geeez2014 says:

kID, EXACTLY All Trump has to SAY is “Look, these are the LAWS, it’s not I who made this stuff up…COngress did, to PROTECT OUR COUNTRY..what’s WRONG WITH THAT?”
I don’t know about the gal to Johnson’s left, but he sure does think a LOT of himself….what a terrible person.
    I ADORE Paul Babeu….and yes, I DO know he’s gay…what a pity, he’s so attractive!

  53. Kid says:

Z, that was supposed to translate to “It seems simple does it not.”

I can only say I was misquoted in my defense then.

Yea, Johnson is proof of Einstein’s theory that human ignorance is limitless.
Did you see the one where Johnson is afraid that Guam might ‘tip over and capsize’ if we send any more Marines there?

  54. Kid says:

Johnson is a perfect example of the Federal Dept. of Edumacation.

  55. Kid says:

Z, I thought all attractive guys are gay…

And yes, to your point of Trump and these laws are on the books…. People running republican assume people are educated, which is a huge mistake. They need to talk to them like they are in 2nd grade. The smart folks will understand and forgive.

  56. Mrs Grundy says:

Mrs. Grundy…I have no idea what you’re saying.
What’s that mean…is it right, or are you?

My source said 6%, your’s 7%. It’s still an infinitesimally small percentage of qualified applicants w/o adding a specific genetic requirement on top of that. The pool of qualified African American candidates is soooo small already that despite a MASSIVE recruiting effort and Affirmative Action Admissions and the fact that that Georgetown ranks in the top 10 schools accepting African-Americans, their numbers don’t even come close to AA participation in the general population (13%).

  57. Mrs Grundy says:

In other words, I would be surprised if Georgetown could find a single person in the entire country who would qualify for a free ride ex-slave scholarship. There are probably less than 10 under the age of 30 in the country.

  58. -FJ says:

Those 272 slaves sold South, if they survived, might have 10,000 descendents today. Only 100 today would have a qualifying SAT score in the top 1%…. and they can already get a free ride to just about any school in the country through existing Afiirmative Action programs. Georgetown’s move is all about publicity with little to no actual cost to the university.

  59. geeez2014 says:

Kid, he’s the one who said Guam might sink!? OMG!!
“They need to talk to them like they are in 2nd grade. The smart folks will understand and forgive.” WELL SAID.

  60. geeez2014 says:

Mrs. Grundy, wouldn’t you THINK that a school rated this high for Blacks in college might have more than 6-7%??? SO, they’re opening doors not so much for slavery reparation but TO GET MORE BLACK KIDS IN? Brother! I know so many BlaCk kids at the high school I’m associated with who get great grades….
I’m surprised Georgetown can’t find enough who qualify on their merits and not their supposed history.

YOu’re not suggesting there were only 272 slaves sold in the South, are you?

  61. Kid says:

Z, Yea…. and Thanks you and Yes, I’m serious about the 2nd grade thing.

And ole hanky doesn’t even know the word “Width”

  62. Kid says:

and hankey and the dems came back trying to do ‘damage control’ saying old hank was just making a joke, but I don’t believe that for a milisecond.

  63. Kid says:

This guy has the brain of a headless hammer.

  64. Kid says:

as do most of the ‘Black Caucus’ in congress.

  65. geeez2014 says:

    Ya, just a joke… way.

I’ve been hearing all the criticism of Trump for having gone to the Black Church to speak to a Black audience…..negative news, ALL. (except Alveda King, who applauds him)….Ya, now don’t let’s forget that the Blacks went CRAZY because he wasn’t going to speak to a Black crowd, he’d only spoken to a mostly white crowd a week ago about Black problems….(some must be too stupid to realize Blacks watch TV, so some WERE seeing what he was saying, whether they were there or NOT)…but then he goes and he’s “pandering?”

  66. Mrs Grundy says:

You’re not suggesting there were only 272 slaves sold in the South, are you?

The “scholarships” are only being offered to the families of specific slaves who labored for the support of Georgetown. The article YOU posted said that 272 slaves were sold to pay off the Universities debts. You aren’t suggesting that Georgetown is offering a free ride to EVERY son and daughter of a former slave in ALL of America, are you?

  67. Mrs Grundy says:

fyi – Only 1% of the black (African American) population has an IQ over 120, but 9% of the white population does. About 2.3% of whites have an IQ of at least 130 (gifted), 20 times greater than the percentage of blacks who do; only 0.00044% of Africans would be expected to have an IQ over 130.

Georgetown SAT-IQ correlation 1400 SAT = 130 IQ. There are 38 million African-American in the USA today. Only 16,200 African Americans in the entire country have the “qualifications” to enter Georgetown. Of these 16,200… how many do you think are descendants of Georgetown slaves?

  68. Mrs Grundy says:

If I am correct in estimating that these 272 slaves have had 10,000 descendants,… 0.00044 x 10,000 = 4.4. In other words, only 4 people in the country would qualify for the Georgetown scholarship, and it is likely that only 1 might be “of proper age” 18-30

  69. Mrs Grundy says:

So, given this new data, do you believe that this insignificant gesture by Georgetown might qualify as reparations for slavery?

  70. Mrs Grundy says:

This PR announcement is simply a means for guilty white liberals to feel “good” about themselves. It does absolutely NOTHIING to actually improve the lives of former Georgetown slaves. And the little it does do benefits people who need help the LEAST.

  71. Mrs Grundy says:

It’s welfare for the top 1% that does NOTHING for the needier 99%.
