Sunday Faith Blog

Before we speak, we should THINK…..

T – is it True?

H – is it Helpful?

I – is it Inspiring?

N – is it Necessary?

K – is it Kind?

“Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.”  Ephesians 4:29

I think we, and those we speak to, can all benefit from thinking well before we speak….being truthful, helpful, inspirational, necessary, and kind, right?  IMAGINE if everyone did this?

Have a wonderful Sunday,

Yeah, imagine. The world would be a better place. And there needs to the an “E” in THINK: is it Edifying? We shouldn’t do anything that brings harm to others including ourselves. If it doesn’t edify, think before saying it.
    Have a blessed day y’all!

  2. Sparky made me think of this from the same chapter:
Eph 15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
It’s amazing how some people think that being hard on someone, enforcing their own point of view, is speaking the “truth” in love, hammering a point.
“I’m only criticizing how you dress or talk or interpret a particular verse, because I love you.”
And then again, to let someone go to hell without telling them they are headed there is not love either.
    That’s a great mnemonic Z. Good idea.

Yeah, but sometimes blowin’ off a bit of steam makes ya feel better, too!
    (just kiddin’)

Sparky, I look at necessary and helpful together as a kind of edification….Yes, if it doesn’t edify, don’t say it….but….!!! Blessed day to you, too!

Ed, the THINK I was sent and published here captures it well, I think. You confused me with the rest of what you wrote, but I do understand each point….the THINK mnemonic is an excellent thing to remember in everyday situations, before one feels the desire to gossip, or insult (even with good intentions as you describe), or give advice….

Mal, there is no mnemonic for saints 🙂 We all let off steam and it does make us feel better, unless we’ve hurt someone in the doing. THINKing before it gets to the hurting helps, don’t you think? Sadly, we don’t always THINK in the heat of feeling dissed or angry! Doing it more and more , consciously stopping if we can and remembering THINK, starts to change us….it helps us catch ourselves before we say something hurtful. I think so, anyway!!

  5. I was reacting to Sparky admonishing us to ask if it is edifying.
    Does it build up?
That falls in line with your post.
And so does “speak the truth in love”.
But I’ve seen people speak a harsh truth and excuse it with thinking that they were doing it in “love”.
    Sorry for any confusion.

  6. Mal says:

    Agreed, Z. T’was only jesting!

  7. Mal says:

Besides, a little levity might be just what the doc ordered right about now to keep our sanity!

Ed, thanks so much…I got what you meant but I think that simple THINK needs to stay simple…at least for MY brain 🙂 I absolutely agree with you about the ‘speaking the truth in love’….and it can be very hard to discern whether or not we do speak a truth to people… .perhaps the difference is ‘is it OUR truth?’ or the Lord’s truth? Although I think most of us here at GeeeZ who are Christians know that difference easily, some people seem not to. Make sense?
    I loved your input.

Mal, but I AGREE with you! 🙂

Baysider….imagine a world of people who THINK before they SPEAK? 🙂

May I take this minute to discuss something OFF the FAITH Sunday blogs I love to discuss with you?

First… Why is everybody criticizing Hillary Clinton for having said she’s detached from the Middle Class? the woman’s worth many, many millions…is it a big secret that she’s not part of the Middle Class?

Second….there’s rumor that she might not shake T’s hand….anybody know if this would be the first presidential with THAT much rancor? They say even Douglas/Lincoln had breakfast together that morning.

Third: About the speeches Hillary made…her people are saying it’s “Not accurate”….WHAT THE…? It’s pretty easy to say IT’S NOT ACCURATE, isn’t it!! Podesta’s all over the place saying that it’s OUT OF CONTEXT!

you cannot make this up! What context is OPEN BORDERS good? What context is SINGLE PAYER difficult to grasp?

I couldn’t agree more! Sounds good to me.

  12. Mal says:

I know you agree with me, Z, ’cause you respect your elders. (whenever possible!)
