HERE is an article you might want to read on a liberal academic named Richard Rorty, who died in 2007 but sure made some interesting predictions. Here’s something from the linked article that will fascinate you:
“[M]embers of labor unions, and unorganized unskilled workers, will sooner or later realize that their government is not even trying to prevent wages from sinking or to prevent jobs from being exported. Around the same time, they will realize that suburban white-collar workers — themselves desperately afraid of being downsized — are not going to let themselves be taxed to provide social benefits for anyone else.
At that point, something will crack. The nonsuburban electorate will decide that the system has failed and start looking around for a strongman to vote for — someone willing to assure them that, once he is elected, the smug bureaucrats, tricky lawyers, overpaid bond salesmen, and postmodernist professors will no longer be calling the shots.…
One thing that is very likely to happen is that the gains made in the past 40 years by black and brown Americans, and by homosexuals, will be wiped out. Jocular contempt for women will come back into fashion.… All the resentment which badly educated Americans feel about having their manners dictated to them by college graduates will find an outlet.”
Z: *Clearly, his postulations on gains made by minorities being wiped out in the future is utterly ridiculous, as is the “jocular contempt for women” which never really existed, anyway. And he’s clearly as raving a SNOB as leftwingers are today when they actually suggest only non-college educated Americans would vote for this “strongman”…but he got a lot of it amazingly right.
Now wait till you read this…
“Rorty lamented that many of his fellow liberals had come to view American patriotism as an endorsement of past atrocities, such as slavery or violence against Native Americans. He encouraged his peers to re-embrace the patriotism of the old left and work toward a more hopeful future, much like Walt Whitman and John Dewey had before.”
We all know that, don’t we. Liberals have had a good time slamming Republican patriotism. I remember watching Phil Donahue and Tom Brokaw saying they didn’t need to wear American flag pins (this was days after 9/11) because they didn’t need to wear a pin to show their patriotism….all said in a very ‘intellectual, disparaging” manner, of course.
Thoughts about PREDICTING TRUMP?…or anything else you just read?
