Richard Rorty….amazing prophet?

HERE is an article you might want to read on a liberal academic named Richard Rorty, who died in 2007 but sure made some interesting predictions.  Here’s something from the linked article that will fascinate you:

“[M]embers of labor unions, and unorganized unskilled workers, will sooner or later realize that their government is not even trying to prevent wages from sinking or to prevent jobs from being exported. Around the same time, they will realize that suburban white-collar workers — themselves desperately afraid of being downsized — are not going to let themselves be taxed to provide social benefits for anyone else.

At that point, something will crack. The nonsuburban electorate will decide that the system has failed and start looking around for a strongman to vote for — someone willing to assure them that, once he is elected, the smug bureaucrats, tricky lawyers, overpaid bond salesmen, and postmodernist professors will no longer be calling the shots.…

One thing that is very likely to happen is that the gains made in the past 40 years by black and brown Americans, and by homosexuals, will be wiped out. Jocular contempt for women will come back into fashion.… All the resentment which badly educated Americans feel about having their manners dictated to them by college graduates will find an outlet.”

Z: *Clearly, his postulations on gains made by minorities being wiped out in the future is utterly ridiculous, as is the “jocular contempt for women” which never really existed, anyway. And he’s clearly as raving a SNOB as leftwingers are today when they actually suggest only non-college educated Americans would vote for this “strongman”…but he got a lot of it amazingly right.

Now wait till you read this…

“Rorty lamented that many of his fellow liberals had come to view American patriotism as an endorsement of past atrocities, such as slavery or violence against Native Americans. He encouraged his peers to re-embrace the patriotism of the old left and work toward a more hopeful future, much like Walt Whitman and John Dewey had before.”

We all know that, don’t we.  Liberals have had a good time slamming Republican patriotism.  I remember watching Phil Donahue and Tom Brokaw saying they didn’t need to wear American flag pins (this was days after 9/11) because they didn’t need to wear a pin to show their patriotism….all said in a very ‘intellectual, disparaging” manner, of course.

Thoughts about PREDICTING TRUMP?…or anything else you just read?

I awoke at 3:30 AM, LA time, and put TV on (i was REALLY sick last night suddenly!??)…better now. Anyway, FIDEL CASTRO DIES was the headline.
You’ll laugh when I say I RIGHT AWAY thought “Man, Trump can do ANYTHING!” 🙂 HA!!!

  2. geeez2014 says:

and, also, I was very touched by the American flag being held by American Cubans in the streets of Miami….very touched. They know what’s BETTER…most Cubans are conservatives…because they KNOW what socialism is

  3. geeez2014 says:

I just heard the American Cubans in Miami were also yelling TRUMP! See? They agree with me! 🙂

Just found out that this culo rojo finally stopped contaminating the air we have to breathe:

Now I’m afraid — AGAIN — to turn on the news for fear of hearing DingleBarry eulogize him as
some kind of great humanitarian and champion of the downtrodden. Oh, Kee-Riminy — just occurred to me what HOllywood will say in praise of his breakthrough achievements in socialized medicine and national education programs.

Even worse, Soetoro might even dignify the asshole’s legacy by personally attending his funeral services, calling it some kind of diplomatic gesture to make up for all those years of the unrelenting and ineffective illegal blockade of that long-suffering tropical paradise.

Michael Moore and Harry Belafonte must be inconsolable this morning. But what I’d like to see come out of it is revelation of just how much wealth El Pendejo Supremo amassed through his brutal brand of socialistic slavery. Betcha it’s in the billions, and much of it in rubles and safely out of the reach of anybody except his immediate family.

Doubtless Fidel genuinely believed that he was a liberator, a savior, a force for good while tossing out the obscenely corrupt Batista and his Mafia-funded thugocracy, but like all petty dictators, he became just as much an opresor as the guy he replaced, and probably just as rich.

He was a cucaracha, and I really don’t believe the average Cubano will be genuinely depressed or saddened by his absence. They’re just afraid to say how they really feel because the policia secreta might overhear it. Lotta crocodile tears in Habana for the cameras, I imagine.

    Good riddance to bad rubbish.

  5. Bocopro,
    Good riddance to bad rubbish.

    AMEN!

  6. Still leaves Raoul and the whole stinking system.

  7. I’ve given up on trying to predict what Trump might say or do.

  8. That is something that Richard Rorty pretty much predicted that Socialism doesn’t work and that a man like Trump would get elected. As far as the Far Left holding to the saying that “patriotism as an endorsement of past atrocities” I really don’t understand that way of thinking. They must not know history. At all. Reading medieval history would quickly bring them up to speed on that not being a fact, that all nations, governments, etc. except the one that will ruled by Jesus Christ are wicked. Judeo-Christian culture is by far the most superior because it was / is based on God-like teachings. Truly, though, I believe that they (Socialists, Communists, etc.) want to be deceived. They’ve lived with the devil’s teaching so long they no longer know or care what’s right or wrong. The Gene Pool needs more bleach, is all I’ve got to say. 😉

  9. Mal says:

Yes, Richard Rorty’s predictions were pretty telling, but remember Trump’s predictions from 25 years ago was, too. In fact his election as the next POTUS probably is what did Fidel in!
    FINALLY!!!

  10. Kid says:

Yes, the “patriotism as an endorsement of past atrocities” imo is just an excuse liberals use to not be patriotic. Being patriotic means they might have to contribute something someday and they are all sociopath to varying degrees.

Thouhgh if they really believe that then it shows how stupid they are. We are patriotic becuase of the core principles of America well detailed in the Declaration of Independence. We acknoledge the many mistakes made by Americans, just as we recognize today that there are bad cops, bad blacks, whites, men, women, children.

Bocopro…just found out? YOU only have to read GEEEZ and there Castro’s death is, in a COMMENT :=) One-stop reading! I watched FOX and CNN…FOX’s folks were clearly pleased…reacting for the Cuban people in their pleasure shown in Miami. The CNN folks, I SWEAR, seemed just a bit down about it, …one DID say something about how hard Castro’s socialism has been on Cubans and I’m thinking “DO YOU HEAR YOURSELF? What do you call taking from American workers to give to American NON workers?” CNN was the only one whose running commentary included “…at Castro’s death, some very relieved, many very sad..”
SAD? I was shouting at the TV “Who’s SAD?” And yes, this cucaracha has to be VERY rich.

There’s a nine day period of mourning now and the city’s VERY subdued from pix they are showing..people staying inside, etc.

Ed…his death SURELY doesn’t mean ALL IS WELL IN CUBA AGAIN, does it!
I thought my first reaction WAS funny, thought, as I said above “CASTRO DIED? Man, Trump gets elected and already good things are happening!”
ALTHOUGH, it’s harder for me to rejoice about anybody’s death, no matter how AWFUL the person was. I think it’s a character flaw of mine. I got to thinking how it’d feel to have people rejoicing over my death and shuddered….

sparky, THANK YOU for addressing MY POST 🙂 Quite a prophet, wasn’t he. Honestly, I can’t say anything but “YOU go, girl!” to your comment. I have to admit I do have THE SMARTEST readers here at GeeeZ….so well said, Sparks..thanks.

Mal! Did you see my comment about Trump and Castro!~? I AGREE! Not that Trump caused Castro’s death, but I laughingly thought ‘My gosh, he’s won 2 weeks ago, and Castro dies…good on you, Pres-Elect~!” 🙂

Kid… SUCH good thinking …”means they might have to contribute something” WOW, Kid…just WOW… I never thought of it that way. good thinking.

    http://bipartisanreport.com/2016/11/26/breaking-donald-trump-callously-tweets-about-castros-death-the-world-is-pissed-off/

Here it is! A lib cousin of mine (who I’ve never met…) posted this on Facebook..suggesting isn’t Trump AWFUL for tweeting “FIDEL CASTRO IS DEAD!”? The link says “the world is pissed off” because this Castro was a world leader who brought Communism to Cuba…etc etc.
THEY are ACTUALLY SAD! I agree, Trump MUST MUST start to THINK before he Tweets….some spontaneity is refreshing but presidential character needs a bit more decorum….but to read the Left’s condemnation of Trump’s tweet? WOW. Says a LOT 🙂

  13. Kid says:

Z, Thanks. And yes, the left doesn’t care about the Cuban people suffering all this time. Not a Whit ! Nor do they care about the blacks, or the poor, or the average American. Not at all Z. They want richness and lots and lots of sex and good times.

World leader? Well, he was Cuba’s leader. Did he get involved elsewhere beyond the Russian missile thing.

Anyway, he couldn’t have been That bad, Baba Walters had sex with him. Seriously.

  14. geeez2014 says:

Kid…it’s fascinating to see the difference in mood at CNN vs FOX….CNN’s so much more ‘forgiving’, “he WAS a WORLD LEADER, after all!”
He was a world leader like Hitler was a world leader………we celebrate THAT?
FOX is acknowledging the people celebrating in Little Havana in Miami….. Big difference.

There was a Venezuelan with a Cuban wife interviewed this morning in Miami…they had come out VERY early in the morning…when I saw them it was 6:30 Florida time…celebrating Castro’s death….saying how Castro had brought on the sickness that’s affecting Venezuela and other S. American countries…they were SO hopeful and so AMERICAN, it really was somehow gratifying to see this young man with a thick Spanish accent saying how happy he was to be HERE and lamenting Venezuela’s nightmare, blaming Cuba..etc….

  15. Kid says:

Z, Speaking of world leaders, I see little difference between democrat presidents, all of them, and Pol Pot, Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini, and all the rest. They all use the same tactics of lying, etc. The difference I see is that most of these guys just went out and killed their opposition by force where as democrat politicians are satisfied with slow death by removal of rights, liberties, healthcare, and financial well being. 10 Trillion for what?? America? Americans ? Not a single penny of it.

  16. Kid, I make no excuses for him, and i think Trump nailed it in his comments about Castro’s death, nonetheless, Cuba did send medical teams worldwide, but mostly because he couldn’t afford to pay them at home.
    So, world and leader.

  17. Kid says:

Ok Ed, thanks. I haven’t even looked at a news page yet today.

  18. cube says:

I know this started as an Richard Rorty post, but it quickly became a ‘Castro died’ meme. Fidelito was a monster. Tons of idiots bought into his revolutionary talk, but he was an awful human being who caused the death of many good people and I’m glad he’s finally dead. I have no problem saying, that his death has been been on my bucket list since 1961. Hallelujiah!

  19. cube says:

P.S. I am not Gloria Estefan. Just for the record 😉

  20. Mal says:

Yeah, Z, I read how you jested about how Trump can do anything (Castro’s death). I was agreeing with you.
