Tillerson seems like an extremely capable manager…I can’t find anything by which to oppose his selection. I’m just happy it’s not Bolton.

I vote YES. Along with Trump I’ve long advocated for more business in government and Tillerson fits that role. Apparently, in his >40 year career he has worked with/in many countries and has developed relationships, etc. that may prove beneficial. I wouldn’t object to Bolton filling a ‘second’ spot in that office; I don’t know where that stands.

Well . . . though he personifies the “drain the swamp” motif which DJT so often professed, he may be just a bit TOO much of a left-handed monkey wrench.
Senate confirmation is no gimme here, and I wonder if his nomination isn’t just a ruse to take heat off some of his other picks, a bone to the Alt-Left dogs as it were.
Could he do the job? Donno. The chumminess with various dictators with established patterns of being unable to work and play well with others has to be a major concern. Would he honestly and faithfully pursue whatever The Don’s policy toward Russia and Saudi Arabia and hordes of other miscreants becomes? Donno.
My question is why he’d even consider doing it. I mean, in today’s world, your success at gummint jobs at the policy-making level is measured not so much by your triumphs as by the depths of your failures.
Russia is paranoid; always has been . . . always will be. And Putin is a KGB-trained thug whose prime motivation is resurrection of the Soviet Union with all those comfy little buffer states along its western frontier. He simply can’t be trusted, no matter how strong the good ol’ boy relationship with Tillerson might be.
Ergo, all that said, my vote is something I learned from the smartest man in the entire solar system:

I want successful people in important if not all positions to be filled. I don’t know the guy but his resume seems to fit the job description pretty well. He surely knows about alll the oil producing countries and those all seem to be near the top of the general pain in the butt list.
The only thing I’ve seen negative so far in the “news” is that Exxon-Mobil could make some more billions with him in there. Well poo-poo-magoo. Like there aren’t always billions to be made all around any administration’s cabinet members and friends and interests.
Last I heard Bolton is set to be Assistant Secy of State.

As an addendum to my previous comment, in perspective: I’d have much preferred if the recent “negotiations” with Iran had been executed by [real world] negotiators, Trump/Tillerson, as opposed to the disaster perpetrated by career politicians, B.O./Lurch. I’ll assume that this needs no further explanation.

After much review, I think Tillerson will be a good choice. He’s familiar with dealing with foreign countries, since Exxon is so big it’s almost it’s own country in it’s own right. At least with President Trump, I think that if someone doesn’t perform properly, he’ll fire them. Period. That’s good enough for me. Time will tell if Tillerson was a good choice or not.

Obviously, you all know how eager the Lefties are to get rid of this guy “too rich” “Too big oil” “No gov’t experience!” “Too friendly with Putin!” rubbish.
This country SHOULD want brilliant men who’ve done SO well for their companies and who say they now want to do that well for their country (he’ll be workin’ for US). I’ve never been the Bob Gates fan many of you are but I heard yesterday that it was he who brought Tillerson to Trump’s attention…they had never met before.
I do like John Bolton but know many think he’s far too hawkish. Still, I’d rather he be Assistant Sec of State than THE GUY of any department. I’ve heard him speak in person and he’s very bright.
JMB…WOULD that TIllerson/Trump had been in on the Iran negotiations!
What ALL OF US need to know is that some deals we think should happen will NOT happen for reasons we will never be privy to…sadly, Ryan’s reputation among very rightwing cons has suffered because they feel he should be able to wave a magic wand and MAKE US HAPPY. Well, Trump’s going to find HE can’t do that , either, and some of us will be disappointed….negotiations of the kind Trump will be involved with will have details they simply can’t share…..and we have to realize that and trust that he did his best, the best possible, not exactly what WE or HE wanted….
Bocopro…the people backing Tillerson…Gates, Cheney, Condi (who I have a story about which has almost turned me totally OFF her, but..) and other pretty heavyweight people are convincing me he’s the guy. Gates knows Tillerson, suggested Tillerson ….I’m hoping that’s a good thing.I’m NOT a Gates fan but plenty of good Cons are, so…………

Rex Tillerson will do a bang up job. Despite John McCain’s and Marco Rubio’s panties getting all bunched up thinking about the prospect. Not to mention those pathetic democrats who for some unknown reason managed to hold their senate seats.

big articles today on how ELTON JOHN and GARTH BROOKS won’t perform at the Inauguration festivities….the writer says the Trump people are offering money AND appointments if they perform. A Trump spokesperson says nobody’s ever offered money or appointments, but if that’s the truth, the damage was done by the ‘fake news’ they were.
Sad that EVERY SINGLE THING Trump tries to do is SO badly insulted….WE don’t care who performs, most people don’t, but the left LOVES to report those who WON’T are BIIIGGG stars who’d have gladly performed for Hillary and were on the record for that.
The fun’s never going to stop. I remember saying that when Bush was elected and I saw the insults every day, but his was chicken feed compared to what Trump’s getting. They are MAD at his win, they are JEALOUS of his success, they are FEARFUL that this country just MIGHT become great again and that “great” in this case doesn’t include end of term abortion, no corporations, no churches, climate change regulations which would have stopped businesses from succeeding, LGBT people coming before heteros, etc ETC etc……….they need to get a grip and work for THIS COUNTRY, not their selfishness in pushing it even quicker than it will go into as kind of socialist nightmare.

I think Tillerson is a good choice. Certainly better than previous ones, namely Albright, Powell, Clinton, Kerry. I like it even more with Bolton at second base.

I trust Trump’s decisions. Certainly more than Obama’s, for sure! If Exxon profits from any of Tillerson’s decisions, so be it as long as it doesn’t adversely affect the U.S. like Hillary did. Our country is like a huge corporation with 350 million “stockholders” and as such, needs extremely sharp people at the top to keep it healthy. In that regard, I believe we are on the right track.

This nutty professor’s fantasy isn’t going to happen. Nevertheless, if it did, it would cause massive chaos and likely violence in the streets. I would join his supporters in the streets if this handful of appointed insiders tried to steal the election that Trump won fair and square.
Is it legal to try influencing electors? I mean, once the election-election is over, are political parties allowed to “campaign” among the electors to persuade them to vote a particular way? Especially to persuade them to vote against the choice of the people they’re supposed to represent?
I’m not an election wonk but I can’t recall ever seeing, in my lifetime, either party considering the Electoral College to be anything more than a formality – a group that basically rubber-stamps the electorate’s decisions. Did I miss something?
Again, this a new, dirty trick being played by the DemonRats? It’s hard to persuade a million people to vote your way. It’s much easier to persuade (or bribe or intimidate) a single elector to vote your way.
I’m thinking electors should be legally off limits – sequestered, basically – once the votes are counted. Too much room for corruption if they’re left open to threats and blandishments from the parties and the media.

I think TUCKER CARLSON’s new show is great; he’s very hard hitting, informed, etc., but have you others who watch noticed how he beats dead horses? Sometimes he’s so ideological (in the right way..hurrah!) that he says things like “show me where the Russian hacking influenced voters”, insinuating that it doesn’t really matter that they CAN hack and get even classified info….
He does that about once a show…taking a point to the rather ridiculous.
We don’t want Russians hacking but to suggest that it’s only bad if it causes something bad isn’t smart, in my opinion?

The result of all the hacking was to discredit Clinton.

Ed, I really don’t think the Podesta emails had any effect at all. I don’t think a single democrat voter read them, searched the, or even cared what was in them. This whole ‘hacking’ thing is a big pile of nothing. So, it fits the democrats edoesn’t it. Big pile of nothing.

Z, there were still 68% of the snowflake cupcakes in the tank for the satanic ejection beast at the time of the election. Mostly what I was thinking of when I made that comment. But sure, there were no doubt a few clinton lovers who may have gotten a little bit of an education from that. I don’t think enough to have made a difference in the vote tally however.
