The chief danger that confronts the coming century will be religion without the Holy Ghost,
Christianity without Christ, forgiveness without repentance, salvation without regeneration,
politics without God, heaven without hell.
William Booth
“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.”

AOW — about the kid & the fire:
Saw the clip of that kid who started a fire outside the DeploraBall site last night. The Fox News reporter asked him, “Why’d you start that fire?”
The kid said, “Because I wanted to and because I’m saying , screw our president!” And he said that with arrogance and gusto borne of an innate sense of entitlement and impunity.
Just yesterday I watched a clip at Rodge’s place which this kid epitomizes. Can’t remember the name, and the clip is a bit long, so I’ll distill it and put the link below. It’s very accurate in many ways, but not entirely universal.
Speaking mostly about the problems with “millennials,” the speaker says essentially that they’re a generation which has been told repeatedly that they’re special and can have just about anything in life that they want, that they’re entitled to it simply because they want it.
He gives examples of kids getting into honors classes or receiving good grades as a result of their parents being such nuisances that the teachers get tired of dealing with the hassle and simply give in.
The kids get participation medals, sometimes even for LAST place, which dilutes and detracts from the value of ALL medals, especially to those who worked hard and actually won.
Along with their ingrained sense of entitlement, millennials develop overinflated sense of self esteem while in school. But then when they hit the real world and discover that they’re NOT special, that they’re expected to actually contribute something meaningful, that Mom can’t bail them out any more, they get depressed and give up, looking for someplace else to place the blame.
He also places a good deal of blame on what he describes as an addiction to positive feedback on facebook or twitter or whatever. And as I’ve said many times myself, they insist on instant gratification, instant resolution, instant information. Their relationships are based on “like” or “unlike,” their experiences are based on 22-minute sitcom episodes, and their facts are from one-liners by late-nite comedians. They never learn the tricks to finding comfort and safety by developing lasting relationships with real people face to face.
He goes on to say that despite the media addiction and instant availability of information, young people are often more lonely than they were before the age of electronic babysitters. Makes me think of back when the telephone in our house was a growler party line, we had no TV, and I lived on the outskirts of town with no kids my own age nearby. But people managed to get along with each other just fine back then.
His thesis is that just as with medicine or booze, a little bit is healthy but too much can be deadly. The habits and the expectation of instant feedback and regular success that they pick up on social media and in school today just don’t work AT work. Kids aren’t picking up the essential skid marks and box tops along the way, and they’re not attending the meetings and paying dues that later bring dividends.
It’s as most of us realize through experience and common sense . . . if you don’t develop the patience and self discipline through homework or practice or sports or burger-flipping, you don’t understand that life is not like Cliff’s Notes and winning scratch-off tickets. There’s rarely true gratification in real life until you’ve earned it, and the problem is that those depraved and irresponsible millennials who brought their kid to set that fire are perpetuating it into the next generation.
Here’s the clip of the guy analyzing the millennial problem (you need only a few grains of salt with it):

Bocopro,
Thank you for that detailed response.
I remember when I first heard the self-esteem meme: in a teacher-parent conference in November of 1981, when the mother and I were discussing the “causes” of her fourth-grade son’s bratty behavior and consequent poor academic progress. The mother absolutely refused to accept that her son should be held to any accountability.
That student met a sad ending some six years later. He died after futile courses of chemo for leukemia. His mother died a decade later of lymphoma.
Back to my introduction to the self-esteem meme….
After that conference, I heard the self-esteem meme more and more frequently in parent-teacher conferences, finally from the new administration of the school (1996 buyout of a private school). Oh, these administrators didn’t use the words “self-esteem” all that often; the new code word was “respect.” I resigned from my teaching contract in June 1997 after I learned that the administration was changing teachers’ submitted grades for report cards — raising the grades, of course.

I did my teacher-certificate practicum with a 9th grade AP class. Then I taught several classes of dual-enrollment English in the high-schools around here. Although I was blessed with la creme de la creme, I quickly realized that my personality wasn’t suited to dealing with helicopter moms and delusional dads.
That’s why I did the next 15 years teaching at the university, where I saw maybe two parents per year . . . IF, that is, I went to graduation ceremonies.

Excellent and very said discussion between AOW and bocopro….it’s all true and it MUST CHANGE. It just MUST. We’ve trained a disgusting generation of two of entitlement brats….”screw the president?” What kind of parent doesn’t take that kid and kick him TO THE MOON? Or worse?
bocopro…”Vive la republique, et vive le Donald.” Oui, Monsieur.. tres bien dit.

Kid…HAPPY TRUMP DAY…love it! I do feel some hope.
EVERYBODY: I had CNN on for 3 minutes as the Trump family entered the White House for ‘tea and coffee’ with the Obamas….The only thing Jake Tapper could find to say about Eric Trump was “Avid SPORTSMAN”….Translated for his audience; THIS FAMILY LIKES GUNS. “Avid sportsman?!” What differences does that make in the context of what was going on?
I am actually enjoying CNN these days…it’s SO transparently hateful and it’s such a lovely refreshment to go to FOX and see them treating the inauguration with respect and excitement.
I’m QUITE SURE FOX never treated Obama’s inauguration in the disdainful, hateful way all the panel of CNN people have.
Ah, well…just texted my girlfriend who’s there with Pence’s ‘right hand man’ and his wife…can’t wait to hear back what she’s experiencing. I’ll let you know if there’;s anything remarkable enough to share!!

By the way: A guy I know’s from Ethiopia…I saw him last night and we talked about the inauguration and he said “America is lucky; in Ethiopia a new leader doesn’t come into power without GUNS”
We need to remember that. But, come to think of it, the leftwing protesters are using metaphorical GUNS (if not real ones…who knows what could happen this weekend?) and seemingly trying to take us into a third world country status. Including the Democrats who found it important not to show up at an inauguration after having been elected to office!!! Typical.

Mr. Z and my special breakfast, since Paris, is prosciutto crisped in a frying pan with fried eggs broken on to the prosciutto…mmmm!! I Love all the good stuff you’re all mentioning as breakfasts for a BIG CELEBRATION LIKE TODAY!!
Bocopro;;; I know my readers share the sentiment that “At least you’re OKAY!” I was truly worried about you, my friend!!
SOME OF Z’S OBSERVATIONS:
I THOUGHT THE SPEECH WAS SPECTACULAR….JUST SPECTACULAR!!!
So, I turned to CNN and the first thing they say is “This was one of the most RADICAL speeches in history!” And I thought “putting us first is RADICAL!?”
When did it stop being okay to put America first and why does that make us nationalist to the negative? Ridiculous!
HE MENTIONED ISLAMIC RADICALISM!! He actuallY SAID the words…as president, finally! Hurrah!
“Protected by God”….Hallelujah!
What the HECK is wrong with AMERICA FIRST? Even Krauthammer’s critical about that…why?
CNN’s John King says “my, the speech made it sound like things were bad NOW (Z; sticking up for Obama again, of course!)….when immigration is down and unemployment is down… ” WHAT?
“A new national pride!” Our blood is the same color…patriotism will bring unity!~” Uh…YA! I think so, too! STOP TEACHING OUR KIDS TO HATE THIS COUNTRY! How can we have a patriotic citizenry when we have kids so turned against the country?
Juan Williams mentioned how the crowd wasn’t quite as big as Obama’s, never mentioning that that was mostly BLACK AMERICANS, of course! And NEVER MENTIONED IT’s RAINING! 🙂
Pretty darned big crowd for a rainy day, hu8h?

Z, We’ll see.. He called out the entire government for what they’ve become – Not for the people and Not for America.
He didn’t mention a timeline, so it can be an 8+ year endevour. These things are ging to take some time, especially for America’s infrastructure. Wiping islam terror for the face of the Earth is going to be one mighty task.

Kid, but I know you’ve been a bigger fan than I, and the comment sounded more negative…every president promises big things fast….He definitely called the gov’t for what it’s become.
I don’t think he’ll even REPLACE Obama care as quickly as he thinks he can. I hope I’m wrong….and ya…wiping out Islamic terror’s going to be tough but nobody’s even VOICED the opinion they need to ALL GO, and that’s refreshing, right!? At least he even used the term 🙂

Z, Negative? You mean the 8+ year part? We can assume he’s talking about his term in office 4-8 years for some of it.
I like that he called out all the problems and made a vow to fix them. They are fixable if government cooperates. We need legislature changes not exec orders. Maybe some constitutional amendments wouldn’t hurt either.
If he gets things better, especially for democrat supporters, it’s going to be hard for the left to keep hammering him.

Consider the amazing foresight of Shelley, who published this eerie prophecy almost exactly 200 years ago describing what very well might be DB’s “legacy” one year from now (it was first published in January 1818). Its title is “Ozymandias,” and I particularly like the 11th and 12th lines.
I met a traveller from an antique land,
Who said—“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal, these words appear:
My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.”
“sneer of cold command” . . . “nothing beside remains” . . . “decay of that colossal wreck”
Brilliant!
