Is Gorsuch NUTS?

I was stunned to hear that he’s called Trump’s remarks regarding the judiciary “demoralizing” and “disheartening.”  Here is the title of the article:

Gorsuch says Trump’s tweets on judiciary are ‘demoralizing’ and ‘disheartening’

And he said this in private to Senator Blumenthal of Connecticut, a man whose demeanor and every action gets ME demoralized and disheartened every time I have to hear him. And, of COURSE, the actual quote from Blumenthal is “He (Gorsuch) certainly expressed to me that he is disheartened by the demoralizing and abhorrent comments made by President Trump about the judiciary,” Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., told reporters after meeting privately with Gorsuch.”

Can Gorsuch be trusted to keep his thoughts to himself, particularly when he goes against someone who’s entrusted him with a possible seat on the Supreme COURT?  Or do you notice that we don’t know from the quote in italics above that Gorsuch actually used the word “abhorrent” ….and is ‘demoralizing’ really so bad?   Is this a terrible move on Gorsuch’s part for having confided at all to a man like Blumenthal OR is this a media story blown way beyond its actual gravity?  Sadly, Gorsuch apparently admitted he had said these things …..

AND….do you think HE DID THIS ON PURPOSE TO WIN SOME OF THE DEMS OVER TO APPOINTING HIM?  SOME REPUBLICAN POLITICOS ARE SUGGESTING THAT.

What do you think?  Is Gorsuch a great brain who’s not strong or savvy enough to face rabid leftwingers eager to get his goat?  Did the Trump clan tell him to say something anti-Trump so more Dems would vote him IN?  Or?

Gorsuch didn’t say the remarks were factually wrong. I think Trump’s comments are disheartening and think anyone paying attention should too. Our judicial system is so politically corrupt that it is doing more harm to our democracy than the other two branches combined. C’mon, admit it and join the disheartened silent majority.

On the plus side, I suspect the Trump nominees constitute the lowest percentage of lawyers of any cabinet in the past 100 years.

Thomas, we need someone like Gorsuch in the Court so his having said these things, and possibly knocking himself out of the contest now (?), is disheartening to me. Saying them to Blumenthal, one of the more rabid libs, was even worse. I believe a SC Justice needs to show restraint.
GOod point about the amount of lawyers!

  3. My concern is not what he said, but who he said it too, and why.
This was not friends or neighbors chatting.
It’s part of the “interview process”.
He was probably asked specifically what he thought of Trump’s comment.
    A truthful answer is best.
    If he said it.
    Blumenthal is a proven liar.

  4. geeez2014 says:

Just read that Sean Spicer is having to stand up for Conway …CNN is questioning her ‘credibility’….CNN? Is there no end to the insults?
And did you all see this?

Pennsylvania state Sen. Daylin Leach went after President Trump on Tuesday, branding him a “fascist, loofa-faced, s***-gibbon,” and challenging him to “come after me.”

A SENATOR is calling the PRESIDENT those things?

This is so clearly a DNC-promoted siege on ‘ANYTHING TRUMP’ ….and we’re not hearing THAT MUCH blowback. I think the RNC needs to get busy and LABEL these news sources AND Senators who EVER say anything that awful about a sitting president…..and they’re not.

  5. geeez2014 says:

Ed, absolutely. As I said in my post and the comment above yours, Of all pwople: BLUMENTHAL? This man is hideous. And, Gorsuch is admitting he DID say it…

  6. bocopro says:

As I said before the guy convincingly captured the electoral college, he might be able in some kind of George Pattonesque way to solve nasty problems that other leaders would just duck or delegate, but he doesn’t have a clue when to keep his mouth shut.

Gorsuch more or less had to say something about the remarks or he’d come across as a lapdog. The tragic part of it all is that in this atmosphere of spin, lies, blinders, misplaced loyalties, partisanism, propaganda, and outright fake news, we’ll never really be able to know exactly who said precisely what when where and why.

We’ll get what the power players want us to hear, and a lot of it will be in the “So, have you stopped beating your wife yet?” innuendo category.

  7. Blumenthal? Consider the source.

Has Gorsuch confirmed that he made these comments?

  8. I’d like to know the full context.

  9. …CNN is questioning her ‘credibility’….CNN?

I’m not surprised. Neither party in this squabble has demonstrated a firm grasp on the truth.

I agree with Bocopro. I didn’t think it was appropriate for Trump to speak out about the court in the manner he did, and Gorsuch likely thought the same….but while Blumenthal is not the desired audience for Gorsuch’s statement, as far as I can tell…he was the only Senator to ask Gorsuch about it. So some sort of response was required.

  10. geeez2014 says:

CI, I have no problem questioning facts, i have a problem questioning someone’s credibility. She’s smart, she’s conservative, she’s articulate, and they don’t like her. Question her facts, do not question someone’s whole credibility. As if CNN should talk.

Bocopro; Whether Trump spoke out or not isn’t the point; no response is required in a private meeting. Nope. There are ways to get around answering questions like that.

AOW: Yes, apparently, Gorsuch has said he did say those things. What he did NOT say was that the comments were “abhorrent” and Blumenthal’s statement made it look like that. “”He certainly expressed to me that he is disheartened by the demoralizing and abhorrent comments made by President Trump about the judiciary.”

  11. Z – That’s a fair point.

  12. I just read the background on Sen. Daylin Leach’s remark; he doesn’t understand what a Fascist is….and I have no idea what a s**t-gibbon is [though it sounds as colorful as almost everything I heard in the military]….but I don’t think the sentiment is inappropriate.

    Here ya go:

    http://legalinsurrection.com/2017/02/gorsuch-team-comments-about-attacks-on-judiciary-were-not-specific-to-trump-immigration-eo/

This is why I don’t invest any angst into these stories.

    Remember:

“All news is fake news until proven otherwise™”

  14. Imp says:

“a man whose demeanor and every action gets ME demoralized and disheartened every time I have to hear him.”

As a vet..and there are a few here…the man is , pardon my French….Un morceau de merde….and A Warren in drag for padding his resume dishonestly…he’s guilty of stolen valor. And President Trump just called him out and brought it up just a few minutes ago.

  15. MALCOLM TELLOIAN says:

Another one marked “NOT FOUND”.  It only happens occasionally, like once every 2 or 3 weeks of late.  ?????? xxxxx Joni had 2 episodes of vertigo yesterday, and 3 minor ones during the night!

  16. Bob says:

Gorsuch said what he said, and I think he meant it. There’s no problem with somebody criticizing Trump when he says stupid things. Trump could have just said that the judge was making an emotional or political decision, and that would have been fine. But, noooo, not The Donald.

I don’t think it makes any difference in the long run. Gorsuch is demonstrating that he is his own man, and I think Trump probably appreciates that. Let’s just sit back and watch the show.

  17. geeez2014 says:

    CI….I think it’s inappropriate from a senator to a president but …

Adrienne, Blumenthal said Gorsuch told him Trump’s tweets were disheartening, etc. I don’t trust Blumenthal as far as I can throw him but I’m SO TIRED of our people giving them the ammo.

Kellyanne Conway this morning, I heard her live, said at the end of an interview about Ivanka’s clothing being taken out of stores “I like her stuff! Buy Ivanka!” (I’m paraphrasing) I CRINGED thinking “Surely nobody can think this was planned , it was thrown in at the end and she was laughing about it….but REALLY?:”
Sure enough…CNN and others are CREAMING CONWAY as an ETHICS PROBLEM for pushing a president’s families business…..unreal.

Imp; the way Trump mentions those things is disgusting me…sorry. He can’t have an enemy without having to ‘go there’….The magazine writes unflattering stuff and he can’t just SHUT UP, or just correct it…he has to say “the SO-and-SO magazine WHICH IS TERRIBLE AND CLOSE TO GOING OUT OF BUSINESS…” STOP, Donald.
To say Merrill Streep is an overrated actress? WHAT??? (I happen to think she IS but I’m a minority of 1 in this country, I think..but that’s not the point!)

Mal; I don’t know what to say! I didn’t even link anything in the post …what do you refer to?

Bob…it’s horrible….Trump’s just not learning to stay QUIET once in a while..SHOW SOME CLASS……….Yes, I DO think the media deserves REALLY hard correction when they lie, exaggerate, etc., but, in MY opinion?… He’s handed them every slam he’s getting…on a silver platter. If he’d just SHUT UP and SHOW US he’s better than they’re saying…that could work.

    How about this:

“Merryl Streep is an actress and a citizen, so she deserves to have her say. I wish her the best. She’s dead wrong”

  18. I think it’s inappropriate from a senator to a president but …

I don’t disagree with that at all….but not really any more inappropriate than POTUS threatening a State Senator. What’s unfortunately lost in this latest circus, is both Trump’s apparent confusion as to what civil asset forfeiture is, and his apparent knee-jerk support for it……unmindful of the rampant abuse by departments who set their budget by funds raised from said forfeiture….in many cases stealing from citizens who were never charged with a crime.

The media doesn’t want to seem to cover that…..

  19. geeez2014 says:

CI, I’ve been surprised the media won’t cover that, too, because they generally do.

  20. The media doesn’t seem to cover civil liberties issues, unless skin color is involved…..

  21. geeez2014 says:

    CI…Amen to that.
On that topic, I felt SO BADLY I could have wept watching Senator Tim Scott read the horrible emails and Tweets about his being a Republican and standing up for Jeff Sessions.. He read quite a few but “left the ones with the N word out because that doesn’t further any discussion.”
Democrats calling him the N word……….the party which is so ridiculously accusatory toward Republicans about ‘their racism.’

Today, I met with the company which brings Chinese kids to schools in America (like mine was brought)…and she said one of the Home-stay moms (like me) wants to take her Chinese child to Florida and should she worry with this travel ban about that? THIS is how little people LISTEN. The Chinese kids are NOT MUSLIM….and, anyway, I just read that the 9th Circuit doesn’t understand THE LAW and has screwed Trump’s first attempt at keeping us safe.
