COMEY v TRUMP

Who wins?

Let’s talk…..CNN called Comey’s firing “The most GROSS misuse of power of any democracy..”  The media’s outraged.  Some Republicans are outraged because, again, the White House “forgot” to TELL THE CHAIRMAN OF THE INTEL COMMITTEE!! I’d have thought they might want to start learning the ropes…and soon?

SO…do you think he should have fired Comey?   Who does he hire next?

Thoughts on this whole thing?

AND THEN THERE IS THIS!   There’s a sleeping bit of news that didn’t much make the news cycle!  WHAT???

  1. This certainly seems like a Nixonian move, and provides much fodder for the sock-puppet punditry. Trump has been all over the map on his public support or rebuke of Comey, since long before the election. It can look a bit suspicious that people looking into Trump’s campaign/Administration, from an investigatory standpoint, get fired [Bharara, Yates, Comey]….and curious, given that Comey admitted that his actions & allegations with regard to Abadin, which likely gifted the election to Trump, were misleading at best or false at worst.

But it’s a fair charge that the credibility of the FBI has been tarnished through all of this. My money is on Rod Rosenstein [Dep AG] to replace him. Reliable Conservative and author of yesterday’s memorandum…..importantly, already Senate confirmed in his current post. Trump can now turn his attention to the coming fallout from the subpoenas issued yesterday to Flynn associates.

Better he than a pliable political chew toy.

  2. I am pleased FBI Director Comey was fired. He has failed the American people miserably. I don’t understand the high media profile he chose for himself. He should have handled the investigations & let the Justice Dept. do its job. He had no business deciding Hillary should not be prosecuted. He should have given his opinion in private to whoever would have taken the case after AG Lynch recused herself.

Not sure what to make of the meetings in Norway with North Korea. That regime has never complied with any past agreements. China is the key to resolving this once & for all. Perhaps China was instrumental in arranging the meetings?

Comey heard the news while giving a speech

Mr. Comey was addressing a group of F.B.I. employees in Los Angeles when a television in the background flashed the news that he had been fired.

In response, Mr. Comey laughed, saying he thought it was a fairly funny prank.

Then his staff started scurrying around in the background and told Mr. Comey that he should step into a nearby office.

Mr. Comey stopped addressing the group. He proceeded to shake hands with the employees he had been speaking to. Then he stepped into a side office, where he confirmed that he had been fired. At that point, he had not heard from the White House.

Shortly thereafter, a letter from Mr. Trump was delivered to the F.B.I.’s headquarters, just seven blocks from the White House.

Mr. Comey’s day had begun in Florida, where he spoke to a group of police officers. He then flew to Los Angeles, where he was also scheduled to speak at a diversity meeting.

[E]ven before the 2016 campaign, the FBI endured a number of humiliations under Comey’s tenure. Most damning were revelations that the FBI was generally aware of almost every terrorist who successfully struck America over the last eight years.

Well, “criminal intent” or not Shrillary had no right to be considered for POTUS for this issue alone and [yes] Comey needed to go!

AOW and JMB…yes, the very idea that an FBI director makes a decision based on criminal intent is nuts. He’s not a jurist.
By the way, something nobody’s mentioned on the news about the ‘criminal intent’ excuse given to free Abedin and Hillary from reprimand….since when has intent been needed to find someone guilty? “I didn’t mean to kill him!” “I didn’t mean to hit that pedestrian!” “I didn’t know I can’t do that!” Those don’t usually get a pass…

HERE IS WHAT MAKES ME CURIOUS: THE LEFT IS HARPING CONSTANTLY NOW ON HOW TRUMP DID THIS DURING THE FBI’S RUSSIA PROBES….AS IF NOW THAT COMEY’S GONE, TRUMP’S SINGING “HEY, i’M FREE…..NO INVESTIGATION!’ THAT IS NOT TRUE AND I HAVE BARELY HEARD ANY REPUBLICAN RESPOND TO THE LEFT WITH ‘ WAIT..YOU THINK THE INVESTIGATIONS ARE OVER BECAUSE COMEY’S OUT? HE ISN’T THE WHOLE FBI”

They couldn’t wait to get Comey out and, now that he is, Schumer said some things on the floor of the senate that were reprehensible toward a sitting president……nasty, accusing him of things nobody EVER would have said about OBAMA without HELL TO PAY. And, brother, couldn’t the Republicans have?

Dig up the facts, construct the narrative of the investigation, verify everything you can and turn it over to the prosecutor. Many of them will publicize it enough as it is, because they run for election. Comey violated everyone of these tenets and more. When he sold his soul to Lynch in the Clinton investigation, he became radioactive. Trump did the right thing. Sessions couldn’t fire him as he recused himself in the Russian scandal. It’s no accident that shortly after Rothstein is confirmed, Comey’s head rolled. Nixonian is a stretch, IMO.

My daily rant focuses on this event. It’s fairly short, and the embedded ‘toons won’t come over with the text, so here ’tis:

Putrescent ambiguous doublespeak drooled glisteningly from the lips of the high-placed public servant, the indecision of whether to side with racism or misogyny or deception or integrity commandeering his higher-order cerebral functions.

Equivocation flowed like a mercurial spittle off his tongue and down his chin, merging smoothly with the counterfeit back-and-forth analyses from alphabet news networks preparing for the coronation of America’s incipient second “first” PotUS.

Half an entire generation drank the Kool-Aid and joined that delusional, rudderless, derelict swarm of insect-like drones marching to the compelling beat of “Free College!” and “Equal Pay For Women!” and “Islam Is The Religion Of Peace!” from obscenely rich culture annihilators.

“Me!” “Me!” “Me!” they chant as they struggle tirelessly to dismantle the very system which protects their right to attack it with words, with propaganda, with firebombs.

They have convinced themselves that their lives will be all Tinker Belle and Unicorns and Gingerbread Houses and all the conflict, all the disparities, all the poverty in the world would be instantly eliminated if only the rich would donate all their money to the poor and a professional female liar were president.

In a future world, populated we can only hope by a more pragmatic and accountable race of naked apes, the events of the past 50 years in the Grand New World Experiment will no doubt seem naïve and quixotic.

But that world will have no sense of what it was like to live in a society managed by Pelosians, Reidiots, Obamanites, and Ginsbergovas. They will have realized finally that, like Venezuela, socialism looks good in theory but fails catastrophically in reality.

So, Obama hires Comey. Comey muddies the waters of Hillary’s coronation. “I’d be your president without Jim Comey’s interference,” she cries.

Then Trump, hired by the people to clean out the Augean stables because of his talent for firing weasels, does what was necessary — fires Comey.

Now . . . will she scream — “How DARE you fire Comey! It’s all just a trick to stall the investigation into your deal with the Russians to steal my election!”

Hey, Hill . . . you lost. So, at this point, what difference does it make??

Imp — I donno . . . though I was a writing instructor and seriously considered the doctorate in linguistics, I also consider my profanity lexicon on par with the most obscene of ’em. In fact, I pride myself on being able to communicate on about any level in English, from governmentese to slanguage, from ultra-formal to village idiot, from poet to pauper.

Many of my oldest and best friends are similarly gifted in the use of terminology generally considered unwelcome at Granma’s Thanksgiving dinnertable. And as a young man, I was quite liberal on many issues and sought out the renegades, the iconoclasts, the foul-mouthed envelope pushers, the counter-culture rebels without a cause.

But certain words and phrases were just verboten in decent company . . . early training, I reckon. Still feel uncomfortable with the F-bomb in mixed company, speaker’s gender notwithstanding. And although I’ll drop key words now and then as attention focusers, there are some I’ll simply never use, mostly because I have dozens of alternatives.

Nothing Carlin ever said offended me, or Maher, or Colbert. I respect the work, the timing, and the intellect of guys like those. But Carlin was usually underscoring a point with his profanities, and Maher is just trying to expand his appeal. Colbert most certainly discussed that monologue’s content with his staff, including abogados, and decided that the uproar would increase his audience.

And while I disagree with the venue and time slot in which he launched that undisguised pornographic assault on the President’s character, I dedicated 24 years of my adult life to protecting his right to say whatever’s on his mind . . . if he can handle the backfire.

What bothers me most about that kind of thing is that many late-nite comics got along very nicely without it, for decades, and got very rich NOT being nasty. And if ANY comic or talk-show host on network TV had said anything similar about Obama, he’d have been mercilessly pilloried, fired, and very likely physically injured sooner or later.

As all of our grandmothers told all of us in one way or another, all things moderately, and if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing.
