….not a particularly terrific TV show, but the comedy was fine, and the best part was the elation of hearing a Conservative mouth off on liberals ON TELEVISION! 🙂 It was almost shocking to hear them because they’re so rare.
So, they’ve been canceled, though they had excellent ratings and ABC is saying it isn’t politics. Ridiculous. Of course it is. EXCELLENT rating shows don’t get cancelled. A large amount of names on the petition…more than the image above.
HERE is an article I found interesting because the quote, supposedly an “anti gay rant” doesn’t seem that anti gay to ME:

ABC needs to listen to the majority ― not the 2% -Afraid of lawsuit? She’s been fired from her job as executive director of the Madison-Rivergate Chamber of Commerce in Madison, Tennessee. Fired, or “was resigned”…WAS RESIGNED?? Yes, and you’ll laugh at the preposterous talk about her being RESIGNED….
Do you think it was political to cancel LAST MAN STANDING? Have you ever seen it? Should a woman be fired for saying she’s sick of shows “cramming same sex making out into our homes?” Her ‘rant’ was on Facebook…..under her name, not her position. But, she was fired...um….she was resigned, for giving her opinion.
They can, we can’t. I think it’s fascinating that this has happened to a show of that name………..

I don’t generally watch sitcoms, so I’ve only read a little about this…but a couple of additional factors: Excellent ratings is a bit subjective, Last Man Standing generally ranked 12 out of 25 shows on ABC’s lineup with regards to ratings – and – the key 18-49 demographic, and the shows ratings for Season 6 were down 5% compared to Season 5. Additionally, while the show does well in syndication, it’s actually produced by 20th Century Fox, so ABC doesn’t see those profits. ABC is also apparently moving or removing SITCOMs from their Friday lineup, moving to a drama only slate.

If it’s any consolation, the abysmal The Real O’Neal’s was also cancelled.

Totally outta the loop on this’n. Never watched it. DO b’lieve, however, that the right to express personal beliefs is right up there with survival, liberty, firearms, and watchin purty girls. Shouldn’t politic from the pulpit, tho, or preach from the pit.
But, in our “gender is fluid” and “restrooms are genderless” and “two mommies are better than one” society, you gotta watch whatcha say or the PC Nazis will getcha. And black lives matter, unless other blacks in Chicago are the ones killin ’em.
That PC has gone mad, ’tis true. ‘Tis pity, and pity ’tis ’tis true — a foolish gesture. But ne’er mind it, for I will speak what I think. Age hath awarded me that privilege, and Milady backs me up on’t.

Last Man Standing was one of my wife and my favorite shows, and one of the very few we absolutely had to catch up on if we missed it.Loved it. Canceling this totally sucks but ’tis the screwed up culture and world we now live in.
I feel sad for the poor lady who was fired for exercising free speech. Glad I no longer have to censor myself any longer like I did when I was at the local newspaper. Benefits of working for family.

I don’t watch sitcoms, but my daughter loved this show. It is too bad they cancelled it. Every other show is full of ‘nasty’ stuff, and I’m tired of it being shoved down our throats. There is a ‘gay’ on every show out there! I guess we all need to read more!

I can’t stand most of network TV. I feel like my IQ goes down when I attempt to watch what they produce. Especially when they have to tell me where to laugh.

For years I truly enjoyed Home Improvement. Pat Richardson was the perfect foil for Allen’s macho bumbling, although I didn’t partic’larly like any of the three kids. Wilson was a trip.
My mother detested the whole thing, said he was a boob and a little boy who never matured, just got bigger — and that was AFTER I patiently explained that that was what it was all about, a running metaphor for the maturation and enlightenment of a Katzenjammer Kid.
My wife had absolutely NO interest in it, saying that she’d rather watch squirrels bury nuts in our back yard than watch a nut bury jokes in our living room.
Ah, well . . . guess that’s why we have horse races, huh? Some people like Ellen and Oprah, though the attraction eludes me. Hell, I even liked The Stooges.

CI. yes, pretty excellent….it was the “network’s second-highest comedy this season and averaged 8.1 million viewers, just behind “Modern Family,” which averaged 8.7 million viewers this season and was recently renewed for two more seasons. It was also ABC’s third highest watched scripted series behind “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Modern Family.””
Not a show that gets cancelled.
They might MOVE it to another night with those ratings…but don’t usually CANCEL.
EVERYBODY: I don’t watch sitcoms, either….can’t anymore. And I’d been told many times to watch this show “You’ll love it!” but never did until it reached syndication and I discovered it in the afternoons…when I take a break, it’s usually on and I’ve watched it from time to time.
Jerry, I’m glad you’re not censored too. Funny, if you were lib, you could probably say anything you wanted to say. Am I right? Or did you work for a paper that believed in JUST THE NEWS and no opinions?
Bocopro…I saw a few Home Improvements but didn’t like it as much as Last Man Standing. You’d love the occasional conservative quip.
By the way….his wife was more liberal………they had an unwed daughter with a baby, AND my VERY FAVORITE PART is that they have black neighbors that Tim doesn’t much like and he never censors himself…if the guy does something he likes, he acknowledges, if he doesn’t, he doesn’t care that he’s black and says how he feels. The wife, on the other hand, the more liberal wife, falls all over herself trying to make the black wife like her!!
VERY good stuff…….Second-highest comedy this season and they didn’t move it to another NIGHT?

ROGER AILES HAS DIED AT THE AGE OF 77….He apparently fell recently and this must have created a blood clot which killed him this morning.
He left FOX in disgrace, let’s face it, but without him, Conservatism might have never had the voice it got… Probably, Roger Ailes and Rush Limbaugh are the first two who provided at least a different viewpoint from the liberal media’s……..’allowing’ Conservatives a place to talk, to listen, to think.
I will never EVER agree with the ridiculous and persistent “show some cleavage” adage on FOX.
As I’ve said here before, I am not a feminist but I do NOT like using women for ratings unless it’s a beauty pageant!
Nobody in real life wears long jeweled earrings at 7 am, no women wear cleavage-showing dresses nearly every day like Guilfoyle does, most women in real life wear slacks from time to time (I have seen exactly ONE pair on OUTNUMBERED worn by one of the women…that’s all, ever, on FOX)…
I can vouch for the requirement for cleavage because she asked me not to tell, but I have spoken to a black woman with a fabulous Conservative message who refused to go on FOX anymore because they wanted her to wear certain clothing and she wouldn’t. That’s a fact.
That was apparently AILES. SHe didn’t say it was Ailes, but he seemed to set the tone.
In contrast, one NEVER sees CNN women from afar…the cameras are on their faces, not their legs like the FOX cameras are on Shannon Bream or Genna Lee….the women pn lib news sit behind opaque desks, professional podiums, unlike the clear podium they put before Megyn Kelly, for example, so you could see her in full view.
The GOOD THING IS THIS: ROGER AILES FOUND GORGEOUS CONSERVATIVE WOMEN WHO ARE VERY, VERY SMART! Why NOT have really beautiful women that smart giving news?
But why do they need the cheesecake factor? ON the other hand, does anybody watch FOX for the pretty women?: I think not.

Honestly, it’s very touching to hear the different news people on FOX talk about Ailes…it’s VERY clear that they respected and admired him. “We owe our careers to him……during the darkest times in my life, Roger was there …generous, hilarious, a genius…if you enjoy FOX, you have Roger to thank for that” is just one statement I am hearing right now (typing as he spoke).
EVERY one of them shows GREAT admiration and affection for him.
It truly is touching.

I’ve said before that Ailes and O’Reilly were old timers who saw nothing wrong with asking the people who work for the show some leg to up the ratings. As you said, however, they were lawyers in abundance who happened to be nice to look at. It was all about business. Women shouldn’t have to do that, but you’re right, they are beautiful and highly intelligent. On TV, that wins.
