  2. Do you know if the ‘information’ offered during the previous Administration compromised intelligence sharing agreements with a third party?

  3. Ah, a scant minute of digging reveals more than the headline: “The Obama administration has offered to help Russia improve its targeting of terrorist groups in Syria if Moscow will stop bombing civilians and opposition fighters who have signed on to a cease-fire and use its influence to force Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to do the same,”

IOW, the previous Administration offered to share select information if Russia complied with the stated stipulations, which they declined. Not exactly the same as Trump actually divulging intelligence with seemingly nothing in exchange.

  4. And you know what Trump did exactly?

  5. Nope. Do you? But I’m not using media driven comparisons in pursuit of victimhood. If the Trump Administration were pursuing an agreement with Russia, it’s not something that they couldn’t have stated by now, and completely diffused the this issue.

CI, if you know anything, you should immediately tell the media because the only people who really know what was said were the five in the room. NO NEWS VENUE knows what was said.
By the way, nobody also knows what exactly Obama did……..if you believe the media on that one, I’m pleased for you because I’m losing my trust in the media…actually, I did a long time ago.
Looks to me like you’re fine with both headlines….without knowing?
That is the point of my post; WE DO NOT KNOW. Headlines these days say the wildest thing, only to find that, in the article anybody bothers to read, the same information’s not actually there…but the innuendos are wearing Americans down.

JMB, thanks…it is clever and true.

    Bunkerville…sorry, you’ll be hearing more!

We have an explanation of the first headline, which whether true or not, is plausible. The issue [for me] is summed up best by Slate’s Joshua Keating: “Revealing classified information to accomplish a foreign policy goal is Normal. Revealing highly classified intelligence casually in conversation for no particular reason, if that is in fact what Trump did, is Not Normal.”

All this Administration need do, is proffer an explanation similar to what the previous Administration did, if that is indeed what transpired. I certainly don’t trust the media, but why would I then trust the serial liar in the Oval Office?

We don’t know if it actually was “HIGHLY CLASSIFIED” but the media’s sure acting like it is… and if it was, I’m thinking it wouldn’t be quite as safe to proffer any explanation to anybody but those who are privy to learning “highly classified intelligence.”
“if that is in fact what Trump did” is the key there, isn’t it. To assume anything is “not normal.”

It could be exactly the same information shared, the same level of classification, and we have learned by now the headlines would read like those in the post; therein lies my problem with it.

I don’t know enough to decide whether Trump did wrong or not. Not many people do.

  10. Exactly. Although “highly” classified is media subjectivity, but theres’ no downside to admitting exploring intelligence sharing. I find blanket rebuking of these allegations just as intellectually incurious as mindlessly braying for impeachment.

Because I can’t know what Trump said or did, I can’t rebuke anything that’s said, but I will not support a media bent on misinforming, mischaracterizing, probably lying in favor of the Left, constantly……..to our country’s detriment….which I will include asking humiliating questions in press conferences on this trip Trump has just embarked upon, in front of foreign powers. Which will happen because our media doesn’t know better. The Dixie Chicks of America Media; insult and humiliate, confirm doubts in public.
Not a good plan but it’ll happen.

Late to the party maybe, but Natl Security Cheif McMaster stated nothing was shared that would have any detrimental effect on our natl security, intelligence sources or methods.

OK…but what constitutes supporting the media?

Kid – I concur that our national security is not in jeopardy, but if the assertion that third party intelligence were compromised, that is a huge concern for the Intelligence Community. The public-at-large doesn’t really have an appreciation [which is understandable] for just how much actionable intelligence we receive from allied and partner nations.

I know a lot of you will ask how anybody knows Trump called Comey a ‘nut job’ and said his firing took pressure off him…to the Russians. I just hope and pray this isn’t true because I don’t want a president who’d call people things like that to foreigners…..it’s hideous. And THEY DON’T DO THAT. I’d be very surprised to hear a Russian bigwig insult his fellow Russian government folks as nut jobs….

I don’t know what to say about this latest information….https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/russia-probe-reaches-current-white-house-official-people-familiar-with-the-case-say/2017/05/19/7685adba-3c99-11e7-9e48-c4f199710b69_story.html?tid=a_breakingnews&utm_term=.fa927b6ba255

I tried to find mention of this stuff at a conservative-leaning paper like the Wash. Times, which I like, but Googling didn’t bring it up for me.

CI…by SUPPORTING the media, I mean reading it, believing it, quoting from it.

CI, the reason we take the position against Obama and in favor of Trump is the overwhelming bias by the MEDIA against him. Perhaps if they had been fair and unbiased like they are suppose to be, our comments wouldn’t be necessary. It serves as a counter-balance to them.

Mal, I think there’s some truth to what you say…it’s kind of knee-jerk because the media is SO bad.
I was laughing yesterday as Juan Williams tried desperately to compare conservative media’s treatment of Obama to what the media’s doing now to Trump. He actually believes that they’re equal!!!!
But I can’t really stand up much for Trump anymore..the media’s got us, let’s face it. EVERY SINGLE DARNED DAY there’s some information that’s out there….and the WH doesn’t address it well at all.

I have mixed feelings now because I never could STAND that snake Manafort and it looks like he’s a ‘person of interest’ in some Russia involvement…what KIND of involvement, we don’t know…but if ANYBODY was going to do anything like that it’d be this hideous man

ANother guy I could never stand is Kevin McCarthy…even if he IS a California Republican…..poor Ryan really had to dig the R’s out of THIS one…and this is RECORDED.
So, who’s recording and leaking, folks? Who at an All Republican meeting would give/sell a tape of McCarthy saying he believes Putin was paying Trump and Rohrbacher?
Rohrbacher is a VERY good man so I don’t believe this one BIG (also from California)…I’m wondering if McCarthy’s just sour grapes for some reason to a fellow California Republican.

  18. Mal – Fair enough, though I don’t necessarily see blog comments as a counterweight to the media……probably because I intentionally don’t let external noise filter my assessment of a given issue.

  19. Z- Irrespective of McCartys flippant comments, the FBI did inform Rohrbacher of Russian attempts to use him. Unwittingly on his part of course.

CI, but we all have to admit it doesn’t mean Rohrbacher actually made those comments because the FBI informed him of attempts to use him. Of course, ‘use him’ would probably usually mean “I’ll pay for this…” But no way Rohrbacher would take it, he’s got a pretty conscientious reputation. Of course…I could be wrong.

MANAFORT, on the other hand? blech

I WISH TRUMP’S WHITE HOUSE WOULD CLEAN ITSELF UP AND QUICK…We have to remember he’s only there 4 months and he did NOT expect to win (as some of you know, a friend of a very close friend was in the suite that night sitting next to Ivanka and watching Trump who seemed dumbfounded, barely said a word all night, and got up to write his speech when the realization hit him)…I don’t have any ‘ins’…this was the wife of someone who works closely with Pence…

Trump needs to get on TOP of this and just saying IT’S NOT TRUE isn’t enough, in my opinion…
What he can do, I’m not sure, but if anybody can manage a clean-up it’s Gingrich….I hope the rumors are true that they’re replacing Priebus with Gingrich.

  21. No, I think Rohrbachers clean……just that we had intel of Russian intentions to use him however they could.
