Health Care Bill

Is  there an incredible irony to the Left suddenly saying they feel left out, haven’t been able to participate in the Republican health care bill, etc.?

From THIS article:

“Democrats introduced a bill earlier this week, which has little chance of passing, that would ban Republicans from bringing up their ObamaCare repeal-and-replace bill without holding a hearing on the bill.

“Senate Republicans’ attempts to pass Trumpcare in the dark of night, without any transparency is one of the most egregious examples of legislative malpractice in decades,” Schumer said at the time.”

Yes, the Democrats are so angry about not being included.  Of course, the Republicans had  72 hours to read  the whole Obama Care bill………and little or no input…and there are articles suggesting even Pelosi didn’t read it first, before she so famously said they had to pass the bill so people would know what was in it.

But, the Democrats are taking this to the air, BIG TIME…Notice that?

I haven’t heard anybody on Right or Leftwing news talk about this double standard…….am I wrong?

Democrats. Roadblockers. Stonewallers. Obstructionists. Coupla days ago this popped outta my head:

Lotta blather recently about modernizing Shakespeare’s plays. Hell, I’ve been doin that for decades. Take Portia’s answer to Shylock in Merchant of Venice (IV i) for example:

The Merchant of Menace – Act V scene vii

    Podesta speaks to Shrillary:

The quantity of malice has no bound.
It floweth as the raging spite from losing
Upon the GOP. It is twice cursed:
It curseth him that votes and him that wins.
‘Tis wickedest toward The Donald; it becomes
The evil PotUS better than his tweets.
His chutzpah shows his civic naïveté,
The sad result of voter ignorance
Which did your rightful victory reject.
    But malice without harm is not enough;
We must destroy the right-wing imposter
With streets awash in blood conservative
And policies of status quo revived
‘Ere long the DNC cannot survive.

Here’s the original in case anybody’s interested:

The quality of mercy is not strained.
It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven
Upon the place beneath. It is twice blest:
It blesseth him that gives and him that takes.
Tis mightiest in the mightiest; it becomes
The throned monarch better than his crown.
His scepter shows the force of temporal power,
The attribute to awe and majesty,
Wherein doth sit the dread and fear of kings.
    But mercy is above this sceptered sway;
    It is enthroned in the hearts of kings;
    It is an attribute of God himself;
And earthly power doth then show like God’s
    When mercy seasons justice.

  2. the Democrats are so angry about not being included

    Bwahahaha! Pot. Kettle. Black.

  3. This Congress had better not go on an August recess if they haven’t passed a healthcare bill and a tax-cuts bill. Grassroots anti-GOP anger is mounting against this Congress, who were elected to roll back certain things that happened under Obama.

And I’m hearing some whining from the Dems, too — so that they can undermine the GOP in the voters’ eyes. The Dems are strategizing for 2018 and for 2020. Is the GOP strategizing or merely being flotsam in the Dems’ and the Enemedia’s never-ending attacks?

There is only so much that Trump can do via executive orders, which he is signing (although not always complete rollbacks.

Clearly, Trump cannot undo ObamaCare or create a tax-cuts bill via executive order.

WILL BE BACK AFTER BKFST WITH A FRIEND BUT HAD TO WRITE THIS FIRST TO GET YOUR RESPONSES..
This morning very early, I had CNN on for a few minutes and Cuomo says something like “And Sean Spicer easing away from the positions….is he LOSING HIS JOB?”
Of course, I’d heard last night that there’s actually a promotion in the works for him and Sara Huckabee Sanders is probably stepping into Sean’s job.
This morning, I just heard it confirmed, that the word is Sean’s got a promotion. We’ll see.
BUT, if I HEARD that Spicer’s easing off the Presser job was a promotion last night, I can’t imagine Cuomo and CNNN hadn’t that news…but the conjecture was LOSING HIS JOB.

NOW: He technically IS ‘losing his job’ …right? He won’t be Press Sec anymore.. so CNN goes ahead and says that…
THIS might have nothing behind it that I’m questioning here…maybe CNN IS more lagging in news info than I am (ya, right…sarcasm)…but it also looks like the typical sick mischaracterizing headlines….business as usual for the Left.

Z… I’ll let you choose to post this or not.

Regarding the GOP health care initiative let me just share a few thoughts from a lefty.

First, the GOP, and Trump won the election. Period. Shame on the Dems for not doing better, but that’s on them. As such, the GOP gets to try an enact their agenda.

My struggle is with how they are going about it. There has been lots of talk about the “72” hours Republicans had to review the final bill before a vote. But that narrative leaves out the factual reality of over a year of conference hearings, committee meetings and opportunities from both parties to influence the final bill. The very fact that one GOP Senator voted to release the ACA from committee testifies to GOP Senators being in those hearings.

The full Senate in 2008 spent more than 3 straight weeks, 25 consecutive sessions, debating the ACA. These represented more than 160 hours. The GOP led Senate is allowing 10. Is there a difference between the approach of our two political parties in the way they drafted legislation? Of course there is, because Senator McConnell and the leadership want a vote before the recess so they can insulate their members from the constituents anger over what they are doing.

Sure we hate the bill, but the way it is being drafted is hated even more. Even some GOP Senators are mad that the bill is being crafted in secret, something that did not happen with “Obamacare.” Remember the disgust many conservatives had towards a process that dragged on for over a year? Remember how conservatives would say more time was needed if Congress was going to influence and regulate one sixth of the American economy? Why are those concerns valid today?

Were conservative concerns only there because the Dems were drafting a bill? Or were conservatives truly angry at the process, a process they are now themselves employing. If something is wrong, it’s wrong. It cannot only be wrong when someone else does it, as some on the conservative side of the ledger, seem to be implying. The ends do not justify the means if you compromise your values to get there.

Unless you never had those values in the first place and only wanted to score a few points and block legislation you did not like.

  11. Kid says:

Schumer and the dems said when Trump was elected that they would work to obstruct everything Trump and the Republicans tried to do. They removed themselves from the process 100%. They have no intention to add positively to any bill, least of all health care.

  12. geeez2014 says:

Dave, is this a joke? You said ” Even some GOP Senators are mad that the bill is being crafted in secret, something that did not happen with “Obamacare.” ”
Ya, the bill even Pelosi admitted to not having read, the bill we had to pass to know what’s in it? The ones Republicans were barely involved in at all, if any?
Did you even READ MY POST?
You might remember the Republicans had 72 hours to read the 1200 page Obama plan…remember?
And, by the way…PROCESS? it’s THE BILL. The Republicans should have been up and running with something the minute they saw how Obamacare was failing so many people, they should have been ready, but we Republicans face up to our errors.
Kid’s right…they removed themselves from the process and now they’re crying?
The Left has nothing to add….Obama’s behind-the-scenes work isn’t stopping and the meme is to KILL THE REPUBLICANS, so…..here it is.

I’d be so humiliated to be a liberal today….it’s a sickness when late night talk show hosts say they’d like to s*** on Trump’s desk, or when Kathy Griffin does what she did, or how CNN is covering almost no news BUT “GET TRUMP” news….it’s a sickness that the Republicans didn’t DEMAND investigations into the IRS scandal, or Fast and Furious…those are OUR side’s shortcomings….NOT having stood up to things like that utterly ridiculous BS that LYnch and BIll Clinton talked “golf and grandchildren” for 30 minutes. Do even Leftwingers BELIEVE THAT?

Thanks for dropping by…….as if you’re going to teach us something we don’t already know.
Republicans DO face the wrong within them. It’s time Democrats started, too…Our country’d have a lot to gain ..

  13. Kid says:

Your last two sentences Z. Perfect. I agree with the rest too.

  14. geeez2014 says:

Kid, ya…I wrote that and thought afterwards “Man, I don’t know where that came from but it sure is true, come to think of it”..it just sort of poured out of the fingers…..I do believe that if Dems EVER started using principles and disagreeing within their party, like Republicans (too often) do, we’d all be better off.

It’s all TAKE OVER AMERICA, KILL CHRISTIANITY, KILL ETHICS, KILL MORALS , KILL SELF RELIANCE…kill anything that truly makes America great in its uniqueness….
They feel America doesn’t deserve it’s rating as the greatest country and they’re busy apologizing for her and seeing to it that she falls, too.

At this point, Europeans are “Okay…love the Dems…Americans make us feel ‘less than,’ anyway” but wait till the next BIG typhoon or other event that needs American help and when they realize the Dems have made America broke, unable to help, they’ll be screeching “WHERE IS THE GREAT AMERICA? what happened?””

  15. -FJ says:

    @ Z,

Dave seems to have political Alzheimers. Anyone remember “Deem and Pass”? That’s when you pass a bill in Congress w/o even VOTING on it. Result – Obamacare.

  16. -FJ says:

@ Bobcopro – The Theatre of the Absurd has got nothing on Congress!

  17. Kid says:

Z, People on the left either believe the BS that comes from the democrats and think they actually care about them and America, etc, or they know what the democrats are up to and agree with the agenda. Either way is equally bad.

Re the Georgia election today, my rabbi friend writes to me today “Ga 6th is my hometown district. My family, of course, is very excited today.(Z: they’re all libs) I’m trying not to rain on their parade too much, they’ve lived in red their whole life. I’m not crazy about Handel. But Ossoff is horrible — a pampered millenial child of wealth. His father made millions teaching corporations how to cheat the tax code. His mother runs a superpac. And little Jonnie is the change candidate?!!
If the 6th turns blue, i may never go home again!”
Just a little NOT FAKE NEWS….see what Jonnie’s really like? The kind where, if he were Republican, the hating Left would be insane…but he’s a Dem, so his rich cheating family’s COOL! 🙂

  19. geeez2014 says:

FJ..right…let alone the facts in my POST I assumed he’d read. Excellent points, FJ.

Kid..equally bad. How can lefties see immorality as it is today, caused by their “I’m okay, you’re okay” attitudes, the dangerous and life-threatening protests against conservatives on campuses, the inability to even allow anybody to have a differing viewpoint actually SPEAK, the sanctuary cities which will kill our country, there’s SO MUCH I could write here…let me end with the California Gov putting 3 million bucks we don’t have aside so illegals can sue us..US!

McCain castigates Defense Department pick at confirmation hearing

At a confirmation hearing Tuesday, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., berated the deputy defense secretary nominee, Patrick Shanahan, for a wishy-washy answer to whether, in his position, he would advocate for providing lethal defensive aid to Ukraine.

McCain, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, even threatened to block Shanahan’s nomination.

“Not a good beginning. Not a good beginning,” McCain cautioned at one point. “Do not do that again, Mr. Shanahan, or I will not take your name up for a vote before this committee. Am I perfectly clear?”

IMAGINE a Democrat castigating his beloved Lib Pres’s nominee?
    NEVER EVER NEVER EVER Happen.
