Proud of AMERICA?

Do Americans need to learn to love America again in order to stand up for her and succeed again?  GERMANY is talking about this…..FINALLY.  I think that’s a VERY good thing.

Germany had been an amazingly innovative, clever, powerful country …until the bad times came in the early 20th century….followed by the worst time ever; the NAZI years.   It was the land of Goethe, Martin Luther, Beethoven, etc….a country to be proud of…..and then the war.   And then it was Germany again, vanquished for having murdered so many so brutally,  seemingly never to regain its great pride.  Pride, after all, is what many think caused Hitler.  Pride, in a time when difficulties were overcoming the people with inflation, political upheaval, etc.

I once had a dear German friend, on the 4th of July in Munich, say “You Americans take pride in your country.  We don’t.”  She was in her early seventies and had learned not to love Germany because of the holocaust.  They were taught to play down love of country.   I have seen personally the hatred left wingers in Germany feel for their country.

I ask you about this because I believe our children are being taught to hate America.  I see Obama in other countries warning of nationalism because he sees  the patriotism and pride pushed for by Trump.  I see people mock timeworn American traditions, treat the Constitution as something needing alteration, not standing for the National Anthem, etc.  How many college students do you think really love America?

Do Americans need to learn to love America again to keep from destroying her from within?  We’re changing our history, political correctness is allowing us to do things which put us last.

Obama was recently in Indonesia, telling an audience there that Americans are too nationalistic.  Has the Left convinced Americans that being patriotic is like the rise of Hitler, a nationalism that should scare us?

Let’s talk.  What do you think?

Obama is a product of his own up-bringing. He was taught not to love America, but also to take as much advantage of America’s table as possible. He’s done a great job with that. I cannot imagine that either of his daughters will be much different. I ask you, what kind of man dines at someone else’s table, and when he is fully sated, tells everyone what a horrible cook his host/hostess was?

Proverbs tells us, “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall,” but there is always an unhappy result when we strip a human being of their pride. I believe that there is a healthy dose of pride, but that it can also become haughty, conceited, and arrogant. As for 20th Century Germany, I do not think the average citizen became haughty —but those who gained power certainly did— and, as with Obama, used it for personal gain.

In schools across our country today, we recognize students for doing little more than showing up for class while breathing. The educationalists tell us that we need to take care of our student’s self-esteem. Well, I personally think that our students have plenty of self-esteem; what they lack is real achievement. There can be no pride without accomplishment.

In America today, the largest sector of our economy is the “service” sector. This is where Americans sell shoes made in China to other Americans who sell burgers and fries. How does anyone in the younger generations take pride in a country that produces nothing? What do young working people accomplish in their jobs that will give them a sense of accomplishment, beyond earning a commission from the sales of junk bonds? Or they can become teachers. There is an axiom that goes like this: those who can, do; those who can’t, teach; those who can’t teach, teach teachers.

O.K. Now, see . . . I like Italian food. Spanish Flamenco. British humor. German engineering. French painting. Even Russian dressing. I like travelogues about the Middle East as it used to be. Exotic islands in the South Seas. The mysterious Orient. Inja. Plus, I’ve actually set foot in 17 different countries and experienced their art, their culture, their food, their languages, their aromas.

And I loved it. But . . . it was always good to get back home. Home, where I felt safe, where I felt welcome, where I felt I belonged. Where I dedicated time and thought and energy into creating and improving something that was Mine. And what’s nice about MY home is that I can enjoy all those furrin things at my convenience, in my safety, with my family, and argue about ‘em if I like.

So, IMO it’s natcherl to feel more comfortable in a setting with which you’re familiar. Doesn’t mean that I automatically consider other cultures or societies somehow inferior or depraved or deprived or unworthy. I’m sure some of ‘em are, so I just won’t go to those, such as NorKor or Chad or Somalia.

The problem with nationalism is very much like the problem with medicine. Take f’rinstance iodine: you don’t have enough of it, you can die; you get too much of it, you can die. And, there’s a big difference ‘tween nationalism and patriotism.

To me, loyalty to country is fine, ‘cause you gotta believe in somethin or you’re just adrift in a leaky boat in a stormy sea without a paddle or a rudder. Nationalism is the arrogant and vainglorious belief that your country is better than all others simply because you were born in it.

Being a fan can be a good thing, providing purpose, entertainment, comraderie . . . something to look forward to – but being a fanatic can get your butt kicked.

And Soetoro is a franctious gringewort who could use a lotta that.

On NPR yesterday they had a segment on how German’s can finally make jokes about WWII. As an example: “Why do Europeans speak so many languages?” – Answer: Because Germany lost the war!

Here’s an excerpt: He’s talking about what it was like to be a German elementary school student in the 1970s….

    (SOUNDBITE OF ARCHIVED RECORDING)

MITTERMEIER: Every day we heard, you’re guilty, you’re guilty, you’re guilty, you’re guilty. I had a school subject called guilt.

    (LAUGHTER)

MITTERMEIER: Three times a week, we had guilt. On Fridays, we had shame.

    Absolutely!

Mark Levin’s latest book provides much insight as to why — based on our Founders’ political philosophy. Not an easy read, but every student of American history must read this book. Quite something!

PS: Dump all the Zinn-ism in our schools. Zinn-ism = hate “evil” America. Zinn-ism permeates our education system, and all of us have, to some extent, fallen prey to some of its tenets. Boiling the frog!

As someone who’s lived in Germany and France, I can see beauty and great things in both countries, having learned the ‘insides’ of those countries and the great stuff many don’t get to see when they visit that I did in my day-to-day existences there ….

But, WHEN they show the slightest patriotism, their own left, and even other countries, start with the “uhoh…the FOURTH REICH!” If they stand up for Germany and say they can’t afford all those refugees, for example, they’re called Skinheads…..their Left, meanwhile, kicks deserving Germans out of low income housing and puts refugees into them, and builds mini madrases for the Islamist kids…and more. SO, maybe patriotism will rise again and Germans will remember what was great about Germany, but…it’ll be tough.

Had JFK followed the policy of Eisenhower, there would have been no major military involvement in Vietnam. America is founded on a Constitution that was derived from a philosophical perspective informed by a knowledge of God’s expectation of us.
And the respect He affords us by the rights He gave us.
The respect we should then exhibit to each other.
When we are guided by that document and the intent behind it, we rise to greatness.

The well meaning adults who gave up their free time to sponsor and mentor them. This wasn’t what they signed on for. It was all a one act play where the finale was all spelled out for them.. they’d lose no matter what. They were targeted and splintered to the point where we almost witnessed the complete destruction of the BSA folding forever for PC and gays. They were and always will be forever, such an easy target to be hunted down, by SJW’s and PC warriors demanding “justice” from Innocent kids. Kids.

This great organization ( and I get the feeling you too were a scout.. I see that boy scout in you CI … as I was..Life scout only, I got mocked too many times in high school ) being dragged through all the mud and BS that the militant gays just love. It frosted my b@lls to no end. It was not right to do this to a great ( and they are and I’ll say it 1000 times if I have to ) organization and still is after seeing 40,000 strong weather that storm and now get into another PC box by Trumps speech this time and again running for cover….

Millions of people lost what ever sympathy that they might have had for gays. ( Watch…next month it’ll be the trannies since they’re denied a uniform in the services, I suppose wanting to wear a Boy Scout uniform will be appeasement enough? )

We just decided, like millions of other men & women, mothers and fathers, to ignore them and let them do what they do. But not to our kids. Yet we now had to quietly expose them to a new set of sexual PC rules that we hadn’t planned on. We wanted to wait until they were at least out of an innocent adolescence for gods sake. Now thousands of 10 years olds had to have it explained to them what gay was all about by their parents…just like the kids who had to know what “is is” and have explained what oral sex was in the Oval office by their president then?

So, we decided not to care who they wanted to bugger. That was their business. These kids have been politicized for 30 or more years now. And if parents were going to pull their kids out of the scouts… it was most likely for the gay issue than this recent one, which was just more hating Trump rally. They’re allowed to scream I hate Trump out loud…but god forbid they dare say the same of gays or even whisper it. Ever see that? You can always tell when people are talking about something sensitive…they put their hands up to their mouths and whisper it.

Z, I would completely agree with you But the schools (sadly) are making kids politically astute – and in many cases indoctrinating them left. Who is going to give them the other side of the story?

Also we didn’t feel like kids when in the Boy Scouts, for us it was like pre-military training. 22 rifle, archery, obstacle courses, capsizing canoes and righting them or paddling them in submerged, swim in for halfway across the lake. They probably don’t ge that physical these days with all the helicopter hand wringing parenting..

  61. Kid – I understand where you’re coming from, but what you’re referring to was a decision made by…the BSA. It’s arguable whether or not sexual orientation is inherently politicized, or is used as a political hammer…..by both sides; but that’s not the issue here. The issue here, is the President of the United States, instead of honoring the Boy Scouts of America at their Jamboree……recycling his personal political tantrums [not to mention, oddly inappropriate stories of hot people, parties and yachts].

Your defense of Trump seems to [correct me if I’m off base] revolve around not what is appropriate, but what you believe has been inappropriate influences previously. Trump had a golden opportunity to be an example of what role model can look like, and expound upon the virtues and values of the BSA….instead, he regaled them with soundbites about crowd size, the electoral map, “fake news”, the healthcare bill, the previous POTUS, and saying Merry Christmas…because apparently we couldn’t before Trump.

I was a Boy Scout, for a short time….I was an Explorer Scout [Search & Rescue, for many years].

CI, Well, IMP brought up the sexual factor. We can disagree. My impression of the event was that the Scouts ate it up. So be it. I don’t know what else to say about it, so I’m not going to work up a defense argument.

As far as kids – Here is a nine year old who wrote a fan letter to Trump. I think kids are very m uch more getting involved in politics. I’d rather see them out playing, learning the 3 R’s but it is a changing world.

  63. You’re certainly not required to defend the speech, I just figured that since you thought it was appropriate, and you wished there was more, that you would have had a more vigorous position to share.

The head of the BSA stated today: “We sincerely regret that politics were inserted into the Scouting program,”
