TRUMP…the polls are not good

What’s driving Trump’s poll numbers down?

Please let’s get past saying “THE MEDIA!”, because we all know that’s a big, BIG part of it, but it’s certainly not the only thing.

What do you think?   Is it disarray in the White House with so many changes?  Is it people like Scaramucci’s foul mouth the other day?  Trump’s tweets that don’t always go over well?  The kind of remarks he makes like seemingly pushing for cops to “rough up bad guys?”, the treatment of Sessions?  Is it Health Care?  Infrastructure not getting addressed?  So little talk yet about tax reform?

WHAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM?   As you all know, the stock market’s really up, there are supposedly one million new jobs, some great conservative judgeships appointed, there are GOOD THINGS happening!!

Please don’t say there is no problem, or that polls don’t matter.   They do reflect SOMETHING and I’d like to discuss it.

I think.

  1. You mean polls of people who don’t even know who Kelly or Scaramucci are yet have an opinion ala Watter’s World?
I’m serious. The pols reflect the people who reflect others opinions.

  2. bocopro says:

    Impatience, single-issue zealotry, and whimsy.

  3. I agree with Ed.

I find it interesting that I’ve yet to receive a polls call the past four months or so. I subscribe to the WaPo, yet it’s been ages since the WaPo or any related polling company has phoned.

Does anyone here get calls to be polled?</b.

  4. Mustang says:

First of all, Mr. Trump comes from an environment where you bring in people to act as your subordinates, you trust them to do the job handed off to them, and if they don’t measure up, you fire them. This is in contrast to our history, where elected officials bring along with them all the horrible scum from two elections back, who essentially continue “business as usual” in the US government. As but one example, who did Bush bring along to staff important positions … and how did that work out? Need another example? Obama brought back all of the Clinton scum, including one of the Clintons. In eight short years, they reversed all the positive work that had been done fixing Johnson’s “Great Society.”

So I think the difficulty is in finding people who are fresh, intelligent, and really trustworthy beyond their own personal view of themselves (Scaramucci comes to mind) and it’s taken Trump a while to get through this process. And yes, the media want nothing more than to see Trump fail. Kelly getting rid of the Mooch is a step in the right direction. Notice too that you seldom hear anything from Mattis. This is because he’s not looking for accolades from an adoring press. He’s quietly going about his business, and I frankly like that.

I personally do not mind the Tweets, although there are a few I would never have sent out. I think Trump needs to funnel his social media blurbs through a Tweet Enhancement Officer, but he does have a very large following on Twitter. I would rather enjoy seeing Trump take on something akin to fire side chats. Still, it isn’t enough to perceive whether his administration is succeeding; the American people need to SEE that Trump is succeeding. Since he can’t rely on the media, and the tweets are limited to 140 characters, he ought do the fire side chat thing. With his money, he could pay for his own network and have the grandest bully pulpit of all.

  5. One would think that with stories such as Criminal Illegal Immigrant Released By Local Authorities Facing Charges Of Sexually Assaulting 65-Year-Old Woman:Portland authorities ignored an ICE detainer request people would be supporting the measures that Trump’s ICE is taking — and that Trump’s poll numbers would be on the rise. Instead, the mainstream news is filled with sob stories about the illegals being rounded up.

  6. jerrydablade says:

its all about obamacare. Like it or not, the buck stops with Trump on this. Not to mention having no cohesive strategy and an administration in chaos. How long ago was that Gorsuch pick?

  7. -FJ says:

The slow erosion represent a peeling off of “establishment” Republicans Trump peels them OUT of their positions at the Whitehouse following the John McCain “stab in the back”.

  8. -FJ says:

Exhibit A – The Republicans have Left the White House. Exhibit B – Jeff Flake joins the “NeverTrump Republicans…

  9. America today is in a state of anoesis.

What the GOP needs to do to get ObamaCare repealed is an appeal to the heart. Trot out people whose lives are being ruined by ObamaCare. The Merry Widow is one of those people, and there are millions more.

I agree with Jerry that the drop in the polls reflects the Senate’s failure to repeal ObamaCare. The POTUS is blamed because, as in sports the coach is blamed for a defeat, the POTUS is blamed when his agenda is failing to be enacted.

Meanwhile, the Left is painting a picture as to how many would be harmed (Killed!) if ObamaCare isn’t propped up and saved.

  10. Kid says:

Most polls are skewed with higher percentages of democrat participation. If you did a Washington Times poll it would favor Trump.

It is all about the obamacare repeal though. Not repeal and replace as they are claiming. Repeal and replace looks like it will amount to obamacare light and that will not go over.

  11. If you did a Washington Times poll it would favor Trump.

This was a Rasmussen Poll….which has always been pretty reliably Republican leaning.

I agree that Congress’s debacle with the ACA contributed to the pool results…but I can’t discount Trump’s tenuous relationship with the truth, nor the chaos and drama in the White House and Russia.

  12. geeez2014 says:

Ed, some of those interviewed on Watters’ World don’t even know where they are, they’re asked precisely because they’re loons. And many polled VOTE, that’s the problem.

Mustang..yes, and we don’t hear much about Ben Carson who must be doing a great job or we would.. “he ought do the fire side chat thing”…I said exactly that a month ago; talk to the people, EXPLAIN EXPLAIN EXPLAIN…have Mick Mulvaney help with that because he’s THE most articulate guy in Trump’s bunch, in my opinion. I loved him when he said “This budget is written with the tax payer in mind…..”

AOW.. was the Oregon story in the WashPo? How did they cover it? it’s been heartbreaking to watch that unfold. I have to laugh every time they start with “an OREGON MAN…” Oregon man? Because he lives there? That’s like in Munich when islamists are doing SO much horror we aren’t hearing about there and the German press says “2 Germans killed a student..” the “Germans” were born there, that’s technically true, but they are Islamists…My stepson says they sometimes only put an initial for the last name instead of publishing an Arabic last name for a perp!

And THIS IS MY POINT, ….Dems are starting to gain in Trump areas…THAT’s why POLLING IS NOT UNIMPORTANT. It sometimes reflects what’s going on…

CI, yes, Rasmussen Poll has been right-leaning and Trump’s relied on it, so I’m hoping these bad results will at least get him thinking. But then he gets mad at the GOP as if it’s ALL their fault and insults or threatens them in Tweets, etc., and then HE looks stinko again.

FJ, so you think Americans want the establishment people IN the WH?

Jerry, I think the ACA is a big cause of it…particularly the way the media handles it….and how the GOP has, frankly.

AOW…as for the Clinton Inquiries…we haven’t much hope; things like this have come up in the past and, somehow, they just go away. God forbid there’s a SENATE HEARING, that’s the first step to Republicans losing their footing….as I always say “if you want a subject to go away and make GOP look bad and Dems look good, no matter what the truth is, hold a HEARING…particularly with Darryl ‘none of my hearings came to anything’ Issa”!!

  13. geeez2014 says:

By the way….it’s TELEVISION, also…a LOT of it. Late Night Shows are almost nothing but “NOW did you see what’s happening at the White House?:” accompanied by uproarious laughter and scorn. Last night, I was changing channels and ran across a tribute to Diane Keaton….just as Jane Fonda appeared before the huge crowd and said “Diane Keaton loves to wear white…the most all-white thing I’ve seen lately is the Trump Cabinet!”…HUGE applause! People watching these things buy this stuff…those who are on the fence, anyway…….and worn down by the nasty media coverage day in and day out.

Apparently, there are going to be some anti-Trump comedy shows coming…
The hate is palpable and hate’s one thing, but laughing at him is, to me, even more effective…it makes people think the whole WH is a joke.

THis is all SO BAD and I don’t see an end…if Kelly can’t do magic, we’re in trouble. I do think Trump’s stopped taking the bait, however…. a little.

  14. John M. Berger says:

I seem to remember some data from polling that took place around the 2016 election time. I wasn’t impressed then and I’m not now. BTW were any of you (conservatives) contacted then or recently? I didn’t think so.

  15. -FJ says:

FJ, so you think Americans want the establishment people IN the WH?

I think that there are a lot of Republicans who held their noses and voted for Trump because he had an ‘R’ next to his name. These people saw their “place at the table” with guys like Priebus in the Administration. But as Trump throws people like Priebus off the train, he loses the Establishment ‘R support. And as he throws more and more Neocons over, Trump’s numbers will fall to his populist “base” 33%.

Facing facts, the establishment is VESTED in corporate globalism. Trump will eventually alienate ALL of these “Brand ‘R McCAIN RINOs. The NEVERTRUMPers were never with Trump because they knew that the Republican brand would get refilled (and purified) with Trump content.

  16. -FJ says:

The “upside” to all this is that the Democrats are going no where with their “Better Deal for America”. The Reagan Democrats are all moving to the Republican Party… permanently. With Trump, the Republican Party will transform itself into a white working class party.

  17. -FJ says:

ps – If the late night shows want to make fun of the white working class, let them. They do so at their own peril.

  18. Kid says:

    A thought on WH Chaos…

Priebus, being establishment was Trump’s liason with the establishment Congress. 6 months and the leakers are still there and maybe he is leaking. He was also there to pull the Senate together on the health care repeal, no success so Out ya go. Scaramucci in, makes comments unacceptable for a White House communications director, and given for free to the media, Trumps favorite people. Out ya go. Kelly in and will run a tight ship.

Trump is anti-establishment, and used to running a business and making things happen fast, not a bloated 20 trillion ton tanker full or people used to not getting anything done while living the good life. Expect a lot of Chaos.

  19. John M. Berger says:

“Trump’s numbers will fall to his populist “base” 33%.”

33%, that’s about what it took for the American Revolution! So Trump isn’t so imbedded in the political bull$#!t (good!); I think he’s trying to fulfill his promises, as best as he can in a “swamp” of resistance by those who got us into the mess that we are in, in the first place. I believe that stats show that he’s having some success , in spite of it all.

  20. -FJ says:

@ John M. Berger – I agree with everything you said. For me, it’s an indicator of all the good he’s doing.

  21. John M. Berger says:

    Thanks FJ!.

  22. geeez2014 says:

JMB, the deal on polling is that they’re not so very important…as some of you have said “Did anybody contact ME? NO!” but oh brother, the media LOVES TO PUBLISH THE BAD NEWS and this plays right into that…and people hear it and wonder…..and draw wrong conclusions like “is he REALLY doing that badly?”

Kid, I think Trump’s his own worst enemy and Kelly might help him get out of his own way. I totally believe Trump wants to help America, particularly the middle class, and that’s a BIG PLUS compared to the last darned 8 years.

I laughed today as I watched CNN for a few minutes….John King actually had the TEMERITY to say “Gen Kelly called the Democrats to make nice…think that will work, does the DJT WH really want to talk to the Dems, or is it just protocol!?” And I’m remembering even CHRIS MATTHEWS once said “Obama doesn’t even talk to DEMOCRATS…this has to CHANGE!”
But,…he was the only honest leftwinger to EVER slam Obama, and he did frequently, by the way….so to have CNN questioning Kelly’s call to Schumer? HILARIOUS.
They have very short memories of their own president’s foibles….but they’ll put BIG headlines out on ANY slightest thing they think will make a good negative story on Trump or anybody remotely related to him.
Now the BIG SCANDAL is that TRUMP WROTE HIS SON’S FIRST RESPONSE TO THE RUSSIAN THING…..SO WHAT? That’s illegal? That’s unethical? That’s wrong? But it IS THE CONVERSATION OF THE DAY!

FJ, we don’t need “indicators” of the good Trump’s doing…we need someone in the White House REMINDING VOTERS OF THE GOOD HE’S DOING.

  23. geeez2014 says:

FJ, those Reps who held their noses and voted, like me and about every Republican I know, for Trump will never vote Democrat…no matter what they tell pollsters.
By the way, if I was polled today and they asked “Do you think Trump’s doing well?” I would have a hard time saying yes because I think the messages coming from the WH are a MESS. Sara Huckabee Sanders seems the only one not totally screwed up….
This is why I have to hope Kelly does well.
The fact that, SUPPOSEDLY, he’s told everyone, including the kids, that they have to go thru him to get to Trump, is hopeful to me.
The fact that he’s SUPPOSEDLY talked to Trump about his tweets is a positive thing for me. And NO< EVERYBODY, I do NOT think Trump should stop…I think he needs to sound like a grown up, that's all.

I just pictured General Kelly holding a deck of cards where the cards are not in order…and he's trying to put all the hearts together, all the spades together (can we still say spades in America? Sorry, I coudln't resist), etc…..and I'm hoping and praying he gets them well aligned ….in one deck, all ready to go…class, dignity, ORDER and a GREAT UNIFIED MESSAGE THAT SAYS:

Oh! that reminds me…Trump MUST stop saying THANK YOU after every speech, every comment, every presser….the FIRST THING a speaker learns is DO NOT SAY “THANK YOU” at the end……they mostly don’t deserve his thanks, anyway…and it sounds very egocentric. That’s my 32 cents!

By the way…watching MSNBC or CNN, you’ll frequently hear “My SOURCE AT THE WHITE HOUSE says they’re in disarray, or …MY SOURCE AT THE WHITE HOUSE says..” WHO THE HECK ARE THOSE SOURCES? THEY NEED TO GO!

  24. Kid says:

Z, I still say the Trump supporters (those who voted for him) are paying attention. They don’t need CNN to tell them about Trump accomplishments. The ones who didn’t vote won’t support Trump regardless of anything.
As fas as Twitter fumbles, and the other gossipy things going on – they won’t even be remembered two weeks from now and are no where near as serious as the stuff they (and he) were putting out prior to the election anyway, It’s all good.

All the attention is on the do nothing congress with special attention to RINO’s as they reveal themselves: McCain, Collins, Flake, Murkowski, Ryan, McChuckles, Portman. Next two elections might get interesting. it would be a perfect time for Conservatives to run on Trump’s agenda to replace known rino’s.

  25. geeez2014 says:

Kid, I don’t think it’ll be a perfect time for anything-Trump in the next elections but I am EAGER for you to PROVE ME WRONG. I hope you’re totally right.

And the Twitter fumbles NEVER get forgotten. I still see references to old ones..plenty of them. You think THIS media’s going to forget and not keep reminding?

We need to realize people DO watch CNN and they DO watch the hate-filled late night shows and they DO scan nasty anti-Trump headlines…..if we don’t realize that, we’re going to be as shocked that Republicans lost as those idiots who were shocked HIllary lost. “WHY?,” we’ll ask…”Because everything was HATE TRUMP everywhere people other than we informed Conservatives looked”.

  26. geeez2014 says:

I just checked and Yahoo beats Google out for “most popular home page” all the time…
so please, let’s not disparage a story just because it’s on Yahoo …it’s WHAT MOST PEOPLE SEE.
Check that out….Trump ‘reminds America he’s helping the rich’…the stock market doing really well is bad, apparently, because most Americans aren’t in it….these jerks don’t realize that a good stock market DOES affect us all, stock owners or not.
This article I just happened across is a perfect example of what I am trying to get people to see and understand….
This DOES matter… people SEE IT…and almost nobody’s as up on the truth as we are, or as informed as we are.
And these uninformed dopes who laugh at Trump jokes on the late night shows, believe mischaracterizing headlines, etc., VOTE.

  27. Kid says:

🙂 We will have to watch events unfold. Yes, the media will be frantically clutching at anything that can be spun anti-Trump. We either laugh at them or turn them off. If people are watching those shows for the purpose of ‘being informed’, they didn’t and aren’t voting for Trump anyway.

Many of us voted for Trump not knowing what he’d do about his campaign promises. So far, he is working it as hard as he can with a do nothing Congress and still making Lots of progress. We will all be applying extra pressure to our voting pens in 2020. I triple guarantee it. 🙂

I’m hoping we can pick up 8 dem seats in 2018 (the ones who are in Trump won states) and the rinos still there will be impotent to do more harm assuming we don’t elect more of them. If McCain’s cancer is anything like the incurable brain cancer vicims I have known, he won’t be around much longer as a functional person. I sure hope they don’t wheel him in and prop him up when he gets to that point.

As an aside, I saw where susan collins was complaining about someone being ‘unattractive’. hahahaaaa

  28. Kid says:

Hate the rich people are tried and true democrats. People with retirement plans (401k, etc) who think the stock maket being up is a bad thing are democrats. They are of no importance Mademoiselle.

  29. geeez2014 says:

Kid, do you think this was smart?…when Trump talked about police hurting suspects?
“The president suggested that officers should hit suspects’ heads on the doors of their police cars.

“When you see these towns and when you see these thugs being thrown into the back of a paddy wagon, you just see them thrown in, rough, and I said, ‘Please don’t be too nice,’” Trump said.

“Like when you guys put somebody in the car and you’re protecting their head, you know, the way you put their hand over, like, don’t hit their head and they’ve just killed somebody, don’t hit their head, I said, ‘You can take the hand away, OK?’” he added.”

I’d only heard he said “please don’t be too nice” but I just saw the details…
Now I TOTALLY AGREE WITH HIM…..I do believe murderers don’t deserve much, but to SAY THIS??
Then you get this and can’t be too surprised:

  30. geeez2014 says:

Kid, McCain’s cancer is the same that killed my girlfriend’s mother in 4 months. She looked at me the other night and said “He’s not going to live long”…it’s one of the worst if there’s a good brain cancer.

Our laughing at the media nightmare isn’t relevant…as if you or I’d vote Left because of it?
I don’t know why you don’t see how relevant it is to a LOT of other people…

  31. geeez2014 says:

what the HECK is wrong with these people? Have trans people in? Sure, but the COST? THE COST?: How many will sign up ONLY to have the operation, then leave after the time’s up? $$$$

The larger problem with what he said [claiming later that it was a ‘joke’], is that with the scenario he used, he’s speaking of Citizens [unless they’re illegal aliens] who have not been charged nor convicted of a crime.

As Chief LEO of the land….you just don’t screw around with this, especially after voicing such support for civil asset forfeiture [theft] and the further militarization of our civilian LE agencies.

  33. geeez2014 says:

Christopher Wray is new FBI Director….good luck, man.

CI, the militarization of LE comes up with nearly every president…I wouldn’t worry about that.
And ya, of course it’s NORMAL CITIZENS that Trump’s including…
and why should illegals be allowed to hurt themselves during the arrest, anyway? Why should anybody get hurt?

As I said, I’m not for the big HAND’S OFF attitude of babying possible murderers, so what if they bump their heads, and I don’t believe cops’ lives come second to a murderer or rapist… but this was probably the worst thing a president could have said. There are ways of saying things…this wasn’t it.

  34. ….the militarization of LE comes up with nearly every president…

Sure, but it keeps getting worse.

  35. geeez2014 says:

Ci, but nothing’s been done….what would you say are new things that weren’t there 10 years ago?

  36. …but nothing’s been done…

Respectfully, irrelevant to me. End the 1033 Program. A responsibly Conservative POTUS will respect the rights of the Citizen and role of civilian LE agencies. We [the People] haven’t given up on abolishing ‘Obamcare’, just because 7 years have passed.

  37. Kid says:

Z, I’m going to go with No on the Trump talking about bashing criminals heads.

But we all know if you resist the cops are bringin a butt whoopin with em.

Chris Rock has a community service video on that – Language

  38. Kid says:

Mustang has a great post on the trannies. More than cost to consider.

  39. geeez2014 says:

thanks, Kid, I’d commented on that good piece of Mustang’s the other day…great stuff…good thinking.
and the Chris Rock video is FABULOUS….more people need to see that…particularly in Chicago, whose death rate is now climbing even higher than their worst year.
Must be the fault of Conservatives, right?

  40. geeez2014 says:

Kid, watching it again..I’d forgotten HOW FUNNY THAT IS! FAAABULOUS!!

  41. geeez2014 says:

“If you have to give a friend a ride, get a WHITE friend” That humor is SO SO GOOD!

  42. Kid says:

Z, It’s one of my Favs. Because it is pure truth as well. hahahah

  43. geeez2014 says:

  44. Mustang’s post is great.

  45. geeez2014 says:

Ed, mustang is a wonderful thinker/writer, that’s for sure.

  46. Imp says:

Mustang’s dead on about General Mattis and the ‘media. Mattis has all those years as a leader, a planner and man who knows how to cary out his orders and a mission. He has been given a mission and I doubt he’ll fail as it does appear that he has free reign and DT’s staying out of his way. Because DT understands the way the military should be and can be…and Mattis knows how to make that so. And he will accomplish that. His first step was keeping the dysfunctional and psychologically disabled and unfit out of uniform and corrupting the ranks.

Now we all should know by now that the MSM is to democrats as Joseph Goebbels was to Adolf Hitler – Propaganda Minister..

  47. Kid says:

Fwiw, Nothing is going to happen with trannies in the military until DJT gives the military a written order. They don’t respond to tweets.
