I’m fading….I’m up to my eyeballs in the Las Vegas shootings and every story they can possibly find on every single angle of it, millions of safe guns in this country but one creep abuses them and the left’s outraged, Jared and Ivanka’s emails, Trump throwing rolls of paper towels to Puerto Ricans, criticism now of Melania’s boots (is she ever going to get the shoe thing good enough for the hate-filled leftwing media?), Jimmy Kimmel rants, Kasich’s ridiculous criticism of his own party, Megyn Kelly cut off the hallowed Tom Brokaw because he criticized the NRA (supposedly), ..well, we could all go on and ON and on, right? ANYTHING the Left can slam, they’re doing it.
SO TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD OR HAPPY……..even if it’s from your own life!

Good story.
After a morning of hectic frustration, running from post office to post office and fear that our newly purchased newspaper would not be mailed, because of a small mistake in the printing of the postal permit on the front page, God came through, everything went well and all the payments were made.
And then we capped it off by going out on the boat to dinner in some glorious warm summer weather at the beginning of October, and watched the sun go down as we motored back to the launch.
A good day.

JMB and Kid…a friend I had dinner with is a strong conservative…he said the choices for president were “like between cancer and clamydia”….I had to laugh, what else CAN one do?! He’s a bit turned off Trump by now, but CERTAINLY agrees he’s better than Hillary! Me, too!

HAPPY NEWS: Airlines are comp’ing families of victims to fly to Vegas…up to FIVE family members…free. AND they’re flying home FREE bodies of victims………….that is sad but such a wonderful display of American goodness.

It depends on your definition of automatic, or your definition of “wrong”.
Automatic means on trigger pull, many bullets.
Bump-fire simulates rapid trigger pulls, simulating automatic fire, but is not as simple as automatic in actual use. It takes some practice and cannot be fired from the hip, etc.
Converting a semi-auto to full-auto (select-fire) IS illegal.
Owning a full-auto is not, but very costly.
The ownership of full-autos was curtailed in the 30’s in reaction to the tommy-gun massacres of Prohibition. Similar to the “Assault Weapons” ban and restriction of manufacture for civilian use reaction to the drug battles of the 80’s and 90’s.
Up until then, many people had full-auto weapons of many styles, just as many do today.
They are a hoot to shoot.
Given the rationale behind the second amendment as formulated by the founders, the constraint against private ownership of full-auto weapons, whether you think someone needs them or not (the same argument against most weapons) is unconstitutional, just like many of the regulations against ownership that have recently been struck down.
That you can own a full-auto weapon, as long as you are rich enough, is a de-facto argument against the restrictions.
That is similar to saying, “Who needs a 700hp automobile, but you can have one if you pay a tax high enough to own one.”

While I agree that I’d be VERY hard pressed to find anyone who truly needs a full auto, I am steadfast in opposing ANY amendments, restrictions, limitations, deletions, or revisions of any kind involving the 2nd Amendment.
The only way I’d recommend altering the handgun landscape is to make ownership of at least one pistol and one shotgun mandatory in each household . . . to kinda level the playing field.
Chipping away at the base of the Bill of Rights with “minor” changes is like being “just a little bit” pregnant or having a “slight case of AIDS.”

I understood bump stocks were once intended to help people with disabilities. Now that we all know what they are, they look hard to use to me.
I’m searching my mind for good news – other than not having the Hildebeast in the white house, things are a bit down. I hope others have goodness to share.

The good news we got was Karon, one of our dancers that always attends these events, passed up going this time due to a garage sale she was having. She could very well have been a victim.

Well, I believe you’re right, Z. I can’t think of one sport or target practice requiting machine guns. Only the military need them, IMO. They certainly aren’t used in hunting, for sure. There might be a competitive sport that uses them. I’m not sure. I have never heard of one.

Well, just sayin….. The intent behind 2A was to allow the people to be armed to the point of successfully resisting an oppressive government. Like the one the revolutionaries just came from. Based on that intent, there is no reason I should be disallowed a fully armed nuclear submarine if I could afford one.
I’m with bocopro word for word. I don’t want a machine gun nor do I know anyone who needs one, but I don’t want my liberties chipped away at. This is how you lose them, not all in one big whooosh.

I’m also down with requiring every household of any kind – apartment to mansion, to own one pistol and one shotgun. There now all the vermin know that Everyone is armed. If the home doesn’t want to load it that’s up to them, but their kids will damn well be taught gun safety as soon as they show up at a place of education.

I’m not trying to be difficult here, I’m seriously curious as to others’ opinions on this stuff.
Take a MACHINE GUN,….let’s just talk this type of gun….yes, the 2nd Amendment doesn’t delineate what KIND of guns, right? That law was passed in 1789 soooo the founding fathers were thinking MUSKETS, right? 🙂 By the way, one CAN buy a machine gun legally in Nevada.

Z, As I understand it, anyone can buy a machine gun who can pass very rigorous and lengthy background checks and jump through some other hoops as well. And once cleared, if you want another one the whole process starts over at step one. It is not easy to buy one. Apparently it is easy to buy the Bump Stock which allows for very rapid trigger pulls(youtubes explain it better than I could here), and vermin in Las Vegas had 7 rifles so equipped last I read.
I don’t know, if you’re a rich person with lots of enemies, and you mgiht even be in America’s justice system as an operator of some sort with lots of vermin gunning for you, that might be a very good case for wanting a machine gun to protect house and home as opposed to other types of weapons.
I wouldn’t assume the founding fathers were just thinking muskets. Advances in weaponry at the time were taking place at a pace that would give them insight into what sort of weapons might be available a couple hundred years later. The focus was definitely allowing the citizens the ability to protect themsleves from Government and vermin.

We are endowed by God at the time of our birth the right to be able to defend our lives and the lives of those we choose to by whatever means we feel necessary. (which includes machine guns and nuclear subs) This is how I read it.

KID AND EVERYBODY: I think we all know that the conversation on keeping guns is beyond protecting ourselves anymore…the Left has made this about MURDERING AMERICANS because they go by that “Nice” thing I’ve talked about here at the blog so often. Sure sounds ‘NICE” to say “Gee! If we got rid of all guns, roses would be redder and daisies would be the size of platters! And nobody’d die!” Oh, man, do Americans gobble that up. And, 2/3 of all those gun death stats they like t spout are SUICIDES….so, it’s a total lie.
In contrast, it’s “those mean old NRA people who just don’t get that if there were no guns, nobody could get killed..they don’t want to protect us!”
THIS is what we’re fighting and we need to be aware of that.
AND we need to keep asking gun haters “Democrats want the end of guns, where WERE they through Obama’s 8 years??”

-they accept unbelievably false narratives (guns, climate crap, the Right are deplorable, Trump is racist, on and on) All of it without the slightest proof.
-they have learned to pleasure themslves by keeping their hate at max volume
-the minorites have come to believe that anyone who isn’t a fascist is against them
-the minorities are scared that they may have to pony up in life real soon (Trump’s EO on welfare and his upcoming EO’s)

I make people angry when I say that everybody should have the right to own any kind of fire arm, or arms they want. If they want an RPG, fine. If they want an M1A1 tank, great. It they want an F-22 state of the art fighter plane, super. They just have to be able to afford it, and they must comply with their Home Owners Association rules about recreation vehicles, etc.
Why should we limit what individuals own? If our government gets too frisky with our rights, we can’t launch a revolution with BB guns. We have to have some real stuff.
I know that this sounds ridiculous, but the principle is the same as any about the right to bear arms. Why should we be limited?
In the case of Las Vegas we need to understand that crap happens, occasionally, and there’s little we can do. We cannot seize all the weapons in the USA, and all the laws we have cannot prevent what happened. There are no solutions to stop what happened, and it will happen again perhaps as a terrorist action, or as another crazy loon two days before the full Harvest Moon.

My uncles all joined the military after Pearl Harbor. One flew bombing missions over Europe (he gave me a .22 double-barrel derringer he picked up in France), one was on a Navy destroyer which was badly damaged and had to be rescued by another ship (he modified a .22 rifle for me when I was 4 years old), and one (USMC) was wounded 3 times in the Pacific (he taught me how to use the weapons).
Another one had mental breakdown while in the Army Air Corps, but all four of them insisted that I learn how to use firearms and treat them as tools. My stepfather taught me quail, rabbit, and squirrel hunting. Quail, of course, require shotgun skills.
The Navy required me to qualify with various handguns as well as the .50 cal for ship defense against boarders.
I enjoy shooting, and had no problem going 100 straight with a 12 gauge in skeet. Never did it with a .410, but won several trophies for 20 gauge, going 100 straight a few times in practice (only once in competition).
Taught my kids gun safety and had each one fire both a pistol and a rifle when they were in grade school.
Right now I have one .30 cal, one 12 gauge, one .22 single-shot bolt-action rifle, and one .22 nine-shot pistol in the house with ammo for each. I also store an AR-15 in my bedroom with around 300 rounds for my youngest son. He has taught his wife and all his kids to handle that one, his other rifles, and his .44 Peacemaker. His wife has a .38 Bodyguard which she knows how to use.
So far since my son retired from the Navy 6 years ago and I retired from the Navy 33 years ago, none of our weapons have killed, wounded, or shot at any arrant bipeds except for one black bear which got a load of #8 shot in the butt for terrorizing my son’s chickens one night.
I also have one large corn knife, a Filipino bolo, several hunting knives, a Mexican machete, a drop-knife, a balisong, a bunch of hammers, two hatchets, a chain saw, an axe, and some very nice skinning and butcher knives, none of which have ever been used in anger against people. Guns are essentially tools, like screwdrivers or shovels.
Also, I’m quite effective with a standard 35 to 40 lb single-recurve bow, able to hit a cantaloupe-sized target from 30 yards.
Haven’t shot at anybody since Da Nang in ’68, and that was because the Gunny I was in a sandbag bunker with during a sapper attack told me to “fire for effect” in the dark toward a stand of trees. (I was a non-combatant technician there on a repair job.)
