Black Young People and What’s the Matter….

Denzel Washington stressed the importance of having a positive father figure in the home while speaking recently about the mass incarceration of black males.

The Oscar-winning actor told a reporter for The Grio during a special advanced screening in New York of his film “Roman J. Israel, Esq.” that positive change in the black community “starts in the home.”

“If the father is not in the home, the boy will find a father in the streets,” he said. “I saw it in my generation and every generation before me, and every one since.”

“If the streets raise you, then the judge becomes your mother and prison becomes your home,” he added.

According to The New York Daily News, Mr. Washington expanded on his answer when pressed by reporters, saying, “It starts with how you raise your children. If a young man doesn’t have a father figure, he’ll go find a father figure.

“So, you know, I can’t blame the system,” he said. “It’s unfortunate that we make such easy work for them*.” (end of my quote from an article)

Z: FINALLY, someone speaks out.  What’s he actually doing about it….??  Can someone like him make change?  Could he, should he, be on a speaking tour that would encourage young Blacks?  If not, WHY NOT??

*I have to suspect that “them” in his last quote is naysayers of Black youth, but I can’t say that I blame him for saying this because, as he says, Black youth hand it to critics in their oftentimes bad behavior.

This is another “Sorry.  Not found”.  The first in quite awhile, though.

I agreed with that idea way back when Cosby and others said it. And Walter Williams (among others, including Sowell) put it nicely with his “As government plays ‘father,’ black males have become dispensable.”

Williams (and Sowell again) also have repeatedly suggested that our entitlement systems, including food stamps, welfare, and subsidized housing, “have done more damage to black society than slavery or Jim Crow.”

Add to that the high-school dropout rate among inner-city blacks along with the self-sustaining practice of babies having babies, and you get cultural suicide. Most black males going to college as athletes never graduate. In fact, the grad rate for black men is barely 30%, even worse if earned degrees are in meaningful career fields.

Two persistent myths popular in the black subculture contribute to the dearth of college-eligible black students, especially the guys: (1) making it big in pro sports and (2) the stigma of “acting white” in school by trying to get good grades.

His faith informs his work, and he has been outspoken about it,
I’m, surprised he has hasn’t been excoriated for blaming black youth incarceration on black culture, much less his Christianity.

It is the welfare state that has caused much of this. Welfare mothers are penalized financially if there is a male in the home. Simple as that.

Bunkerville…that is So right. Remember the stories we’ve heard of Black men (and white) leaving their families SO THE FAMILY CAN GET WELFARE, sneaking back at night to be with family and…make yet another welfare baby. So sad. And it destroyed the whole psyche, in my opinion. We must remember the good Christian pride of SO many Blacks in America for SO MANY years…it still exists in many of my highly -productive Christian Black friends (and family member) in my Bible Study community.

Mal, sometimes I publish ‘by accident’ and notice it and remove it for that day. (I often write posts in advance and I’d written this 2 days ago, I think) You always seem to see it before it’s removed…I’m so sorry!

Bocopro; Williams, Sowell…genuflect when you say those hallowed names 🙂 MY HEROES. There is NOTHING I can add or criticize in your comment………the last paragraph actually hurts to read because the part about education is something the left created in TV shows and other places. And it’s taken hold.
Look also at Cosby, whose show showed that Black Americans can be docs and lawyers and raise great kids………….and then………crash.

” (Denzel) He says, “You have to use your gifts – faith without works is nothing.””

Let’s hope that he practices this…BIG TIME. He can certainly afford it…thanks for your link; I’ve known he’s a man of God (he’s a neighbor of friends who know him quite well) but I JUST WISH he’d put his message to Black families first now.

Denzel said what the solution is – get a father in the home.

Many of these kids don’t even have mothers, just someone who bred them for the money. We had a gil at work who lives in this kind of community who testified that they are full of women who pop the kids out, then when the kids are able, they send them out into the street to find food and refreshment while they party on the money. Talking to these kids is not going to accomplish anything. Living on the street they are forced to join up with gangs for protection, then comes the crime and drugs. I feel sorry for them, many have no chance unless they are very strong and refuse to accept their fate.

Oh, Kid…nice Cadillac, huh? Unreal license plate; shouldn’t have been allowed to be printed.

And your comment above is why I still believe in ORPHANAGES…. In a South American country I can’t remember, I heard from missionaries that the sheriff SHOOTS kids on the streets with no parents…they KILL THEM. Imagine?
We need Spencer Tracy and BOYS TOWN.!! We need goodness and kindness showed to hardened kids with no hope ….can society GROW a conscience in these kids?..the conscience they were to get from two wonderful parents? Not sure. But love and attention go a LONG WAY

Long story short. Autistic kid died as a result of treatment by foster parents in Cincinnati years ago. They talked about this on the radio for a week or so with people calling in. They asked if anyone was in a foster home and had a good experience. One guy called who was fostering a teen girl. Prior to her showing up at hnis place she had been to 17 other foster homes and moslested by pedophiles. They simply moved her. No consequence to the pedophiles. She was now in a decent place. No one said that had a good foster experience, but many people called saying they loved growing in an an orphanage. They felt luckier than others as they now had this huge family to get together with at times or keep in touch.

The orphanage can be more easily monitored. Had to be dems that closed them.

Kid, I had NOT noticed the figures in the back window……disgusting….and they should be ashamed but the left in this country’s made it a prideful thing now.
You should see the lies Ducky and Dave Miller just spouted to me about the economy at AOW’s in some pretty decent comments by me there……..please go see.
ORPHANAGES…the only way to go. Sure, there seemed to be some negative things in those, too, but compared to what American kids are growing up in NOW? Like heaven.

I’ll take a look at AOW and see if I can lay down a snarky yet amusing retort to the malard.

    KATE STEINLE’S MURDERED NOT GUILTY.
    He shot her.
The gun was one which can’t be shot without the person deliberately shooting…he lied and said it went off by itself..impossible.
He said he didn’t steal the gun from the Fed’s car but found it wrapped and in a dumpster (what?)

Why not INVOLUNTARY MURDER? Innocent on all counts…except in possession of a gun.
    Typical San Francisco…..
