CHRISTMAS DAY

Merry, Blessed Christmas to you all!   Give thanks for the very greatest gift of all.

The only thing I can add to that is that I hope you give a few minutes to read this and remember and appreciate and believe.   Heaven on earth.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND LOVE TO ALL MY WONDERFULLY LOYAL, THOUGHTFUL AND SMART READERS!

PLEASE PRAY FOR OUR SOLDIERS OVERSEAS AND THEIR FAMILIES…

(thanks to Mal for these wonderful pictures!)

Yesterday I was talking with a lady in my bible study group. She’s an elderly lady who lost her son suddenly this year, and it’s been very hard on her. Neither of our Christmas celebrations will have many gifts (and thanks again to Ms. Z for her thoughtful one – already being used!). But we concluded our call agreeing that we’d been given the GREATEST gift ever 2,000 years ago.

Out in the morning sun, doing QiGong on my parking strip, Mr. B joined me. Another gift. I was reminded of a very different Christmas that also brought blessings, and sang to him this memorial song penned long ago by Colonel George Weedon and sung at many a Christmas jubilee at his home.

On Christmas Day in 76 our ragged troops, with bayonets fixed, for Trenton marched away.
The Delaware ice, the boats below, the light obscured by hail and snow, but no signs of dismay, dismay. No signs of Dismay.

Our object was the Hessian band that dared invade fair freedom’s land, and quarter in that place.
Great Washington, he led us on, whose streaming flags in storm or sun had never known disgrace, disgrace. Never known disgrace.

In silent march we passed the night, each soldier panting for the fight, though quite benumbed with frost.
Green on the left at 6 began. The right was was led by Sull-i-van, who never a moment lost, was lost. Never a moment lost.

Their pickets stormed; the alarm was spread that REBELS RISEN FROM THE DEAD were marching into town.
Some scampered here, some scampered there, and some for action did prepare, but soon their arms laid down, laid down. Soon their arms laid down.

Twelve hundred servile miscreants, with all their colors, guns, and tents, were trophies of the day.
The frolic o’er, the bright canteen in center, front, and rear, was seen, driving fatigue away, away. Driving fatigue away.

And, brothers of the patriot band, let’s sing deliverance from the hand of arbitrary sway.
And as our life is but a span, let’s touch the tankard while we can, in memory of that day, that day. In memory of that day.

God has indeed blessed us on this day! Whether in a manger 2,000 years past, or out of the cold and snowy woods of Valley Forge 241 years ago, He has poured out abundant blessings, spiritual and temporal for which we humbly thank HIM.
