How hard is it for people to understand that if we collect all the guns, the only people who’ll have them are those who hid theirs, who have nefarious reasons to have them?

How hard is it for people to understand that bad guys will always be able to find guns and use them?

What is it in the brain (?) of liberals which can’t make them see what they want is insane, that having only the bad guys have guns isn’t a healthy idea?

I could say we need tighter gun laws, I get that, but some of you will say that if we just followed our gun laws, that’s enough.  Except is it?  Perhaps even longer waiting times?  We can’t rely on background checks;  that’s almost as nuts as asking someone from the Middle East “are you a terrorist?” and believing them when they say “of course not!”  Background checks don’t tell us if someone is utterly NUTS and shouldn’t own a gun.

Celebrities are angry about the killings!  Don Lemon says “shut up!” to those who don’t feel more gun control is helpful!  (are you quaking in your shoes with fear now?! :-))

Help me out here!

  1. Hill says:

To me it is the ultimate argument that separates the sane from the truly ignorant/insane. If we follow the liberal logic on gun control, then it only logically follows that we should return to prohibition and outlaw automobiles (since drunk driving kills people). Conservative logic says crack down on alcoholism and heavily police for drunk driving… it’s just utter nonsense to think that “taking away guns “ (only from the honest folks who relinquish them) will help gun violence.

  2. I hate to disagree, but not only nefarious characters will retain their guns.
Not only killers will do all they can to have guns.
Our founders intended for us to avoid confiscation because the British did that to subject the population.
    Gun control is population control.

Yeah, gotta go with Ed on this. And when I was 17, I actually MADE a .22 pistol, and it worked.

Also, let’s not forget the spectacular success of that 18th Amendment.

Steve Scalise, who is certainly more qualified than anyone in Hollyweird to comment on the subject, nails it here:

Sorry, I made all my points yesterday. And yes, I can also make guns in my shop. There are very simple plans on yourtube for making .22 caliber weapons.

No, no, no, no more gun laws. We need to eliminate most of the ones we have because they’re unconstitutional and immoral. That’s not the problem. The problem is the lack of morals in our populace (thanks to pushing God out of government, schools, etc.) and that’s something that can not be legislated away. If they try to ban all or more guns there really will be a civil war. Count on that. 😉 I sure as shootin’ would never ‘turn mine in’. And, as the good gentleman above stated, we can always make our own.

No one working in the field of education today should be surprised by mass shootings perpetrated by high-school aged teenagers. What should surprise everyone is that there are not more of these kinds of incidents. The numbers of idiots who are exactly like Treyvon Martin, Nikolas Cruz, Dylann Roof, and Arcan Cetin are far higher than anyone imagines. The system currently in place (nurtured by leftist educators) is designed to protect the identity of such dimwits, due to their ages … so it should not come as a surprise that those who are charged with heading off such debacles simply do not know who these potential shooters are. As to weapons, I will just say that although I have fifty-five years of experience with weapons of various capacities, even I do not know where to obtain smoke grenades, which were used in the Florida shooting. But here’s what you won’t hear anyone on the left saying: teachers should be allowed to concealed carry to protect their students from adolescent terrorists … and I guarantee you that if the morons knew that teachers were armed and trained in close combat, schools would no longer be regarded as “soft targets” for terror.

  7. I had LOTS of guns starting at age 14. So did almost ALL of my neighbors. What I DIDN’T have was a bunch of first person shooter “games” that glorified shooting people and committing crimes (ala ‘Grand Theft Auto’).

Some of you will remember liberal “uptown steve” who left this comment on my Moderation:
“What other reason is there for an AR-15 but to kill en masse? C’mon righties. It’s time to wake up”:

Some of you might disagree with me but I don’t think anybody needs an AR-15, but this is what the Left does…..we “righties” apparently need to “wake up” to the fact that powerful rifles like that shouldn’t be in the hands of kids. As if we don’t know that.

Yes, I do believe that there are types of guns we don’t need ….that does NOT weaken anybody’s thinking that GUNS DON’T KILL, PEOPLE DO, and getting rid of guns, any type, will leave the innocent more vulnerable than EVIL KILLERS.

  9. The ‘Tank’ arcade video game didn’t come out until I was 17.

  10. As for uppy.. every gun in America (and there are hundreds of millions of them) can do EVERYTHING an AR-15 can do… and some a LOT better.

Ed, I still say many, many people who have guns will turn them in if ordered to do so….but not killers…Sure, there are some hunters who’ll hide theirs, too, but I’m talking if everything obeys whatever stupid new law demands all guns get turned in.

Vrag….you make an excellent point about games…..our kids play shooting games on their screens a lot, don’t they. It desensitizes.l..suddenly everybody’s used to it, it’s nothing ‘new’.
Sure Roy Rogers had guns, the Lone Ranger had guns, etc., but no kid saw them and thought it a good idea to do a mass murder of their classmates.
We should BAN those games…Our kids are getting twisted on them and pornography, too.

Mustang, you say “The system currently in place (nurtured by leftist educators) is designed to protect the identity of such dimwits, due to their ages … so it should not come as a surprise that those who are charged with heading off such debacles simply do not know who these potential shooters are.” Can you explain that? I’m not sure I get your point and would like to.

I think teachers are going to have to have guns but as you say, leftist educators will NOT want guns in their desk drawers…..that’ll be quite a hard sell.

Bocopro…I said IF all guns were confiscated, I believe most law abiding people would turn them in.

  12. geeez2014 says:

    Re Scalise and others, I’m not one who necessarily thinks the Left is politicizing this tragedy….When people die in a car crash and we find they weren’t wearing seat belts which could have saved them, I don’t think it’s politicizing to say we need to make sure everyone wears their belts..;

I despise the Left, more these days than EVER, and I think they’re bloody STUPID on their constant drum beat that it’s all Republicans’ faults because we believe in the Constitution….

Hill is right..mostly law abiding people will follow some new law that says to relinquish guns.

THE NEW TAX BREAK: Just saw this from a friend on Facebook “Wasn’t expecting a tax break since we live in California, but what a nice surprise! Thank you President Trump, and not just crumbs, Nancy Pelosi.”
Her husband’s a high earner and apparently did quite well with the new breaks! $$$$ Great news! Haven’t heard anybody else saying their paychecks were more, are any of you hearing this? This would be the first time checks showed it, two weeks into February, I believe.

  14. geeez2014 says:

People are begging Trump “Why don’t you DO something?”
Did you hear that EVER when Obama was president and did nothing to protect schools?

Also, I’m hearing “This happened on Trump’s WATCH!” Did any of you hear any reporter say “This happened on OBAMA’S WATCH?” there were PLENTY of terrible shootings UNDER OBAMA’S WATCH, but…………

  15. Kid says:

Z, based on my take home pay, I’m getting 2800 more per year. We’ll see what happens next year regards refund amount.

  16. geeez2014 says:

that’s NOT ‘crumbs,’ is it, Kid. I don’t know what you mean by refund amount….?? That’s $2800 NET more per year, yes? TAKE HOME??

  17. Kid says:

Not crumbs no. Plus a $1,500 bonus awarded via a 401K special contribution.

I believe allowable deductions have changed and I’m not sure how those changes will affect my tax filing in 2019 for the year 2018. Will I get a larger or smaller refund next time.

MUSTANG: From uptown steve: “Mustang, Trayvon Martin was the victim of a gun murder.”

  19. geeez2014 says:

Kid, do you think the bonus was tax reform-related?

  20. Kid says:

Z, Yep. Sales for 2017 were close to sales for 2016, so I don’t think it was based on prior year profit.

  23. Mustang says:

    @ Z

I don’t know who Uptown Steve is, but apparently, he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Treyvon Martin was shot and killed in self-defense. This is not an opinion; it is a legal fact. Anyone who thinks that Martin was a “victim” doesn’t know the full story of that miscreant. A young man who never learned the value of compassion, Martin was an increasingly ruthless predator who ultimately got what he deserved.

State laws prohibit the release of personal identity information for anyone who is “underage.” The term may vary from one state to the next, but I believe it is standardized under federal statutes. So, you have huge numbers of “special education” students, many of whom are fed regular diets of behavior-modifying drugs (Ritalin being one of these). The scope of behavioral abnormalities is quite wide, from youngsters with histories of trying to harm themselves to harming others-and some of these behaviors are quite disturbing. Yet, these idiots are mainstreamed, which subjects normal students to great risk. When incidents do happen, they are routinely covered up “to protect the identity” of the miscreant child. If such incidents are not covered up, they are “resolved” at such a low key that no one even knows who was involved or even how the matter was resolved. The entire system, therefore, does not hold such students accountable in the normal sense, and this is never good for society. No one has figured out yet that chronic bad behavior only gets worse over time, but speciously, the rights of these students takes precedence over the rights of mainstream student populations. In my view, every child attending public school should have the unalienable right of protection from maladjusted students. Mainstreaming reprobates, as was done with Treyvon Martin, is an example of political correctness run amok … and sadly, Martin is dead today because of it. Now do the math. The total of behavioral problems among students between the ages of 3 and 21 years is from 6.9 to 7.2%. Apply the lowest number of these statistics to 20 million high school aged children in the United States … it equates to an awful lot of potential for violence.

I disagree that the American people would turn in their guns if ordered to, Z, because its imbedded in our minds that we have a 2nd Amendment that allows us to do so and we don’t take that lightly. We are law abiding citizens, yes, but taking our guns would be against our laws, ergo we wouldn’t disobey the 2nd Amendment.

  25. Kid says:

Mal, I agree. I think what would happen is similar to what Australia did. Asked for voluntary gun turn in (sure some would), then after some # of months, they make possessing a firearm illegal.
They recently declared a 200K fine if found in the possession of a gun after some number of days or weeks from the announcement.

In our case, I believe a democrat majority Congress and White House would simply declare it against the law to use your firearm for any reasaon and ammunition would no longer be sold.
The net effect of this would be law abiding citizens going to jail for defending their lives against some vermin. In the case of the vermin, nothing at all would change as they don’t care about the law or being transferred to a prison – a 3 star hotel for many of them.

It would certainly fit the profile of how the country has been progressing down the drain.

  26. Kid says:

PS, Many more people would be attacked, robbed, raped, and killed in their homes as a disarmed public would be a feeding frenzy for the kind of vermin we have runninng around all over this country.

Mal, My point is if all guns WERE confiscated, as the Left seems to want to do (no matter what they say), it’d be only the bad guys who were able to keep them. Why most people have a gun is nuts to me, anyhow, frankly. I don’t believe we must have a gun because the 2nd Amendment says we can.

Mustang, some of us very clearly realize that chronic behavior gets worse over time…As I said a few times at Facebook today “people in America have had guns in their homes since our country’s inception…in hunting areas and otherwise, and it’s only the last 15 years or so when kids in some sort of regularity have found it a good idea to blow innocent people away.” That’s something to think about, and more proof that IT ISN’T THE GUNS.

I wonder what you think of that, Mustang? Would love to know.

  28. geeez2014 says:

Kid, other than I think a lot more would turn guns in than we think, I totally agree with you on what you wrote.
Liberals can’t allow themselves to see the PROOF that ‘the more guns in a neighborhood, the less the crime.”
I happen to HATE that truism, I wish we were still living with mostly good people who never would think of killing anybody let alone kids and I HATE GUNS, but I know it’s true so I have to just accept it….the Left just plain can’t.

I love the cries of “This happened on TRUMP’S WATCH!”

Did ANYBODY hear remember hearing “THIS HAPPENED ON OBAMA’S WATCH” the MANY times guns were used to kill innocent people?

    No, I didn’t think so.

ALSO: OFF TOPIC: Tighten your seat belts, Trump’s personal friend and long time lawyer just SCREWED him on the STormie Daniels nightmare. DAYUM.
Raise your hand if you don’t think Trump’s screwed around with other women while married, by the way. Ya, I thought you wouldn’t raise your hand.

I seriously believe I DON’T CARE if men screw around….it doesn’t reflect on their JOBS. But, I am in the minority, apparently. I don’t LIKE that men screw around, I don’t like they give their wife a black eye, but fired? Nope. Used to condemn their BOSS? NO FREAKING WAY..

  29. Kid says:

Z, Well, I’d rather be shot than stabbed for example.

Trump. Darned if I know one way or the other, and I don’t care either becuase I want Trump’s agenda. I’d have much less of an opinion of him, but as sated in other contexts, I don’t evaluate Trump the person, I only care about what gets or doesn’t get done for America. If it takes a rabbit to get it doen, then that is something for Melania to evaluate. I haven’t seen any evidence of her being bothered.

  30. geeez2014 says:

KID!! You haven’t seen evidence? OH MY GOSH….the news has been full of his trying to reach her hand and her kind of yanking it away, her dour face (which Americans don’t understand but European women just don’t smile for smiling sake, trust me), her not going with him to the SOTU speech, all sorts of things. Could ALL be untrue, but the left is LOVING mocking their relationship!
If half of that’s true, oh, she’s bothered. I can’t imagine a woman not bothered and I’m not real sure the media’s not doing the constant drumbeat of his personal sex accusations on purpose; to split them up…

I don’t even care much about Rob Porter’s wife’s black eye…..and I REALLY hesitate saying that because some would think “Gee, Z likes wife beaters?” I DO NOT!~ DETEST THEM. But, it’s PERSONAL… doesn’t affect his WORK.
Some of you give Trump a pass on his language, his creepy or uninformed tweets, but we LIKE WHAT HE’S DOING, THAT is what’s important, right?….I give Rob Porter the same grace…………..probably doesn’t deserve it, but he’s apparently a very good worker in the WH. That’s fine with me.

  31. Kid says:

I’ll just say I don’t consider that as evidence. The hand slap was “Hey I’m Ok, go do what you need to do” imo. You may be reading too much lefty material. 🙂

Porter? So, Trump or John Kelly are supposed to know the ins and outs of everyone’s life who works at the WH? Now, whoever gave him clearance didn’t do a very good job checking him out. I wouldn’t want a violent person in the WH. What if he whacks a female staffer. Same as NBC knowing all about lauer and still putting young women in that spider’s web. NBC Management are accessory to rape and illegal confinement imo.
It took a while but they eventually worked their way through some Penn State football management people over Sandusky.

    TGIF !!!

  32. geeez2014 says:

Kid, no…I’ve seen the Trumps together a lot and I was the one who said that originally “hey, I’m OK…” but too much piles up and it can’t be ‘lefty’ when pictures are involved, is it.
As usual, I don’t think all things in the media are wrong because it’s leftist…not with pictures and quotes! On ideology? YES, on personal things we can see in front of our eyes? notsomuch.

I just don’t think Trump should be held responsible for Porter….and I don’t believe all we’ve read about Porter, either.

  33. Kid says:

One can tell any story they want with pictures and video.

  34. geeez2014 says:

Well, I hope Melania totally believes Trump and feels just fine about all the accusations with his own lawyer now on record saying he paid Stormie something like $130K …….
hopefully, everybody’s wrong and everything is happy at the Trumps!

  35. I’ve skipped the last ten or so comments to post this (something I hate to do) before I go out the door.
It won’t be hunter who hide their guns.
It will be patriots. A lot of them.
I am not guessing at this.
We’re not making ghost guns just for the fun of it.
And the host guns are legal to make.
3D printing gives a one off. CNC is a whole nother story.

  36. kid says:

Stormy came out just at the right time, just before the elections and cashed in. The 130k was pocket change to Cohen. People pay money all the time in situations of no guilt because it costs them less in the longer term. In this case, maybe the election.

Maybe one or both happened, but I’m going to need more than the word of a slut and another slut who are both focused on $$$$$$$ above anything else.
