He will have a long road for confirmation. First he will have to get Flake to agree to let him through the judiciary committee I believe. He has been blocking all judgeships moving on for several weeks. McConnell stated that Flake would “have to work it out with Trump.”
What they will go after him is when he was clerking the 9th circuit, the judge he clerked for abruptly resigned over sexual harrassment charges. They will claim he had to know about it and said nothing. He supports collecting Meta data on everyone.. That will cost him a vote.
The good news is it is not a Hillary pick. Good luck and there are a lot of Conservatives supposedly for him. We shall see,

And that merit is SUPPOSED to be based on the Constitution. The SCOTUS is not the legislative branch, but we wouldn’t know that fact according to some of the court’s rulings.

Nominating judges is one of those things that derive from a decision to vote for one presidential candidate or another. It is a matter out of the people’s hands, but we’ll all be stuck with the result. We are now long past the time when senators care what their constituents think. Nothing to lose any sleep over, but this is just my opinion.

bunkerville…that sexual harassment thing is the accused’s problem, it shouldn’t be Kavanaugh’s….but, that will be on the list. Flake..always living up to his name.
The Meta data thing is a concern to me, but we’ll see……….Do you know exactly what data that includes?
Ed, that was badly worded, wasn’t it. But the justices could turn R v W away….not hear it…..could be very interesting.
AOW ..’Merit” is a definition I’m not sure is clear….it’s not “We think this has merit….we like it/we don’t like it”…it is based on MERIT if a justice believes the Constitution isn’t being adhered to….
In Precedent cases, they like NEW cases, even look for them (clerks help as they open requests to go to trial every day…justices see few of those), so they can overrule a precedent if possible.

I’ve read a lot of conservative stuff about Kavanaugh, but in the final, we’ll have to see what decisions he makes. Again, feel someone like Barret would have a tough time with this razor thin dysfunctional republican Senate we currently have, and if True I certainly support keeping her for a more favorable environment.
I read somewhere today that Trump is anticipating nominating 5 SC judges before he is through.

Don’t know about the pick. The 2Amendment people don’t like it and too many rinos pushed him. Now that Souter is history everyone on the court could be read with excellent quals, so I’m agnostic on the subject (except Sotomayor who is nothing but a grenade with the pin pulled and everyone else trying to hold the level down).
For this business of serious public assault, we can all thank Maxine Waters for giving a cover of legitimacy to attack dogs tearing down the remaining fabric of civility. She deserves the fate Abraham Lincoln wanted for those who incited civil war draft resistors without personal ramifications to themselves: jail ’em!

Well, as you said Z, “we’ll see”. I really don’t know except that according to Fox News, Brett Kavanaugh is friends with the Bush’s. Also that he trained under a Kennedy. That sent shivers down my spine. Hope he’s just friendly to all of mankind and not a Socialist. You’re right, we’ll see. Prayers that he always seeks God’s Word and is a strict Constitutionalist before any ruling.

I agree Trump didn’t want a fight so chose someone more middle of the road. If they don’t confirm Kavanaugh then Trump should pick someone more to the right and watch ’em come unglued!

Kavanaugh is a good choice. The libs don’t like him as they don’t like anything Trump or Repubs do. Last night it was really funny with all those ignorant fools “protesting” outside the SC. Nobody is fooled unless they are Democrats. We cannot make allowances for those fools, anymore.
The whole reaction thing was predictable, and that’s what will kill the Demos. The American public is not as stupid as the average Democrat.

My opinion is that Kavanaugh will over time frustrate both extremes with his decisions on controversial issues.
He is inarguably preferable to anyone Her Royal Heinous would’ve nominated, but I don’t see him as particularly in lockstep with the far right, or even the not-so-far right.
What I don’t see him doing is legislating from the bench, and that in se is a GOOD thing. But SOMEthin’s bound to come up on which he’ll pull a Roberts in the eyes of right-wingers.
And regarding Roe v. Wade, I doubt anyone will try to get the Supremes to reconsider it unless DJT gets to put two more heavy-duty conservatives on the court for Breyer and Ginsburg. My guess is that Barrett would be next if Trump is re-elected or somehow keeps a reliable majority in the upper house after mid-terms.
Oh, BTW — how’s come it is that you never seem to get good news from your dentist! Now I got a cracked bicuspid that’s gonna need a crown. Doc sez it might last another coupla years, but sooner or later I’m gonna chomp down on somethin and a hunk of it is gonna calve off . . . he just can’t predict whether it’ll be lingual or facial side, or how big a chunk, or whether there’ll be enuf left to hold a crown.
Then I asked if the X-ray shows sufficient bone to hold an implant and he ducked the question, saying that’s somethin I’ll hafta ask a periodontist.

The other day, I said “Please don’t let Kavanaugh be another Roberts..” But I think he is from what I’m hearing/reading. Maybe not.
I got a TAD upset tonight hearing a lawyer who’d had Kavanaugh as a prof….he said “Kavanaugh advised me to always be FAIR, to give someone the benefit of the doubt” …which I agree with EXCEPT when it comes to THE LAW, THE CONSTITUTION…… As we might say “Oh, the poor teen is pregnant? Let’s be nice and fair and not make her go thru the pregnancy…” Not if the law says “NO’.. Nope.
SO SORRY ABOUT YOUR TOOTH…but you know we’ve all been there, and you probably have, too! 😦 My problem is NO DENTAL INSURANCE! I don’t suppose Medicare pays for that? Don’t know. GOOD LUCK!
