Kavanaugh, Murkowski and IMPROPRIETY…??

By an acquaintance in Chicago:  A little background on Sen Murkowski:

“Interesting how the swamp lives on.  How many people remember how the Republican Party welcomed Lisa Murkowski?  I do.

It seems Lisa’s father, Frank Murkowski, was a long term US Senator who decided to run for Governor of Alaska in 2002 and won.  Upon taking office he resigned his Senate seat and, as Governor, appointed Lisa as his replacement.  Lisa was a loyal and successful Senator and was reelected in 2004 for a full 6 year term.  In 2010 she ran again for the Senate seat.

Backspace to 2006 when Sarah Palin, running on the “clean government” platform defeated Governor Frank Murkowski and in the process revealed deep corruption in the administration of Murkowski. You may recall the “Bridge to nowhere”.  The Republican Party was not happy with the notoriety.  In 2009 Palin resigned as Governor while running as Vice President candidate for John McCain.  We know how that ended.

But was that the end?  Sarah Palin was the Tea Party favorite at the time and the Tea Party candidates were getting some notice.  In Alaska, Tea Party candidate Joe Wilson was running in the Senate primary against Lisa Murkowski.  Palin supported Wilson.  Wilson won the primary but then the NRSC (National Republican Senate Committee), headed by John Cornyn, refused to support Wilson in the election and Murkowski won after a very contentious recount.  This was the same year that the NRSC refused to support Tea Party candidate Marco Rubio in the primary but instead was backing Charlie Crist.  It was only after polling indicated that Rubio was far more popular that Cornyn gave any support to Rubio.

So now we have Lisa Murkowski as a Republican Senator.  How’s that work’n out for you Mr. Cornyn?

(That was my friend Tom’s email to me …)

NOW I (Z) WILL WRITE WHAT I THOUGHT OF MURKOWSKI:    You announced that you like him, you met with him TWICE for a couple of HOURS, you like his decisions, you reviewed all his information and were ‘leaning toward yes’…….Yes!  “Good on issues, won’t change abortion, won’t hurt Alaskan natives, ALL IS GOOD!  I LIKE HIM!  But I can’t vote for him.”

“A judge must act without impropriety.”  IMPROPRIETY?  What IMPROPRIETY HAS THIS MAN SHOWN IN THE LAST 35 YEARS?  MAYBE IN HIS WHOLE LIFE, SINCE MOST OF US ARE PRETTY SURE NOTHING DID HAPPEN IN HIGH SCHOOL.

what IMPROPRIETY, Sen Murkowski, you IDIOT?

Apparently Trump opening up Anwar for drilling wasn’t enough for her. What did she think would happen to drilling if the Supremes went left?
Let’s go back a bit further with Senator Stevens who was found guilty of taking gifts left in disgrace and later was determined he was set up by the government and later found not guilty. Alaska has very dirty politics. Let’s see what her payoff is.
Great post Z.. and thanks for the refresher.

As the pundits have been discussing this, all this background was going through my head about the senator from Alaska. I was FURIOUS the repubs refused to back her opponent. Anyone left wondering why they call it The Swamp? Now Palin is saying “I can see 2022 from my house.” I hope so.

  4. She is another swamp inhabitant. I’d love to Palin take her on. I listened to her speech yesterday and it was a chore. Talk about tortured reasoning. He’s a good man, but I can’t vote for him? What? She is a typical politician without deeply held beliefs. She is beholden to trial lawyers which should tell you all you need to know about her. At least she’s trying to keep some friends by voting present. But she’s severed some ties that should cost her. I think Trump is going to pay her back soon. Too bad for her constituents.

On the topic of impropriety — didja hear what Kagan said yesterday?

In essence, she declares . . . compLETEly inappropriately . . . that the court’s “legitimacy” will be at the very least questioned any time there’s a 5/4 vote after Kavanaugh is seated.

Her logic is that Kennedy’s retirement eliminated the “unpredictable” or “middle” voice, leaving 4 lefties and 4 conservatives on the court, giving Kavanaugh the deciding vote on anything close.

In other words, she declared herself to be a raging liberal who fears that the precious leftiste agenda so treasured by Obamanites will be jeopardized unless something can be done TODAY to stop Kavanaugh’s confirmation . . . OR . . . some bombshell evidence appears which will support a DJT impeachment whether the blue wave materializes or not.

Aren’t SCotUS justices s’posed to be impartial, apolitical, rational mature adults removed from the pressures of recurring elections so that they can ride herd on lopsided Congresses?

And in that regard, how appropriate was it for Darth Vader Ginsberg to say that the country would find itself in deep doo-doo if Trump were elected?

Seems to me that Miz ‘Lena has done fo’got Mistah Middle, John Roberts, who’s closer to center even than Kennedy. And Gorsuch is not exactly a dyed-in-the-wool right-wing hardliner.

How is she gonna attack Amy Barrett when Trump nominates HER after Ginsberg takes that final nod-off.

Does anybody anywhere understand that the whole idea of central gummint was that it would provide for the common defense of the several states, conduct international affairs with other sovereign governments, and play referee amongst the individual states when they got into pissing contests over reciprocity or transportation or tariffs?

NOWHERE in the Constitution is health care, much LESS abortion, mentioned in the Constitution, and the 10th Amendment provides very nicely for issues it doesn’t address specifically; it relegates them back to the states, or to “the people,” where they logically and legally belong. So even if Roe V Wade is scrapped, the abortion issue simply becomes one for the states to work out for themselves.

If I were a drinkin man, I’d say “I need a drink!” But I ain’t, so I’ll just sit here and rage against the dying of the light . . . of reason.

LAW AND ORDER “He’s a good man, but I can’t vote for him? What?” That’s exactly what I meant in my post…….she raved about him…over and over again………BUT I VOTE NO! WHAAAAAT??

Bocopro: “In essence, she declares . . . compLETEly inappropriately . . . that the court’s “legitimacy” will be at the very least questioned any time there’s a 5/4 vote after Kavanaugh is seated. ”
I didn’t hear Kagan say that but she’s right and I don’t know she meant it SO inappropriately because WE ALL KNOW SHE IS RIGHT!
This man will NEVER EVER be “just one of the guys” on the Supreme Court. EVERY vote that goes for the RIGHT will be ‘at least questioned’ only because of this FREAKING MESS created by ONE UNCORROBORATED INCIDENT 35 YEARS AGO.
    I think she’s right, pal 🙂

Bocopro, “nowhere in the Constitution is health care mentioned”. True, ’cause there really wasn’t any! What was the life expectancy even later in the Old West? 32 I believe. Not exactly a ripe old age. Of course, dying from gun shots probably accounted for most of those.
