Sunday Faith Blog

Sometimes we need to feel GRATITUDE in order not to feel fears, sadness, grief, etc.  We all have plenty to be grateful for.

Yesterday was my 28th wedding anniversary, though we only had 19 married years together……the grief hits at the oddest times, and this year was no exception.

Financial fears hit us all, sadness at things going on in our lives hits us all…maybe bad health, or the bad health of loved ones, etc ………BUT, who wants to sit and list sadnesses here at a blog? Not me!

GRATITUDE HELPS.  To sit and make a list of the GOOD THINGS in our lives really does almost negate the sadnesses;  it’s difficult to be sad when you’re remembering things to be grateful for (though it’s possible, believe me!).

Yesterday’s swearing in of Brett Kavanaugh was probably a good thing.  I say ‘probably’ because it’s not over yet.  If the House goes Left, they’re going to try to impeach him.  If it does not, they’ll think of ways to make his and his family’s lives completely miserable.  You know that, I know that.   He will not have an easy road to hoe in the Supreme Court and my heart goes out to him and to our country because the lefties are totally out of their minds at this point.  The only good thing about that is that I think Americans are FINALLY waking up to this.

Let’s try to be happily grateful that he did make the cut.  Let’s hope he’s what our country needs.  Let’s hope that it’s true that Trump’s bellicose ways have helped the Republicans to FINALLY speak out and stop being cowed by the hideous left.  I think he’s really done a good job in that arena, even I’m almost able to listen to his events the last few nights, which is really saying something!  Perhaps I’m getting used to it;  perhaps that’s exactly what’s helping Conservatives SPEAK UP finally, like Lindsay Graham!?

“And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.”     1 Peter 5:20

Have a wonderful Sunday…….be grateful, pray for our country, pray for Brett Kavanaugh and his family.

We have so much to be grateful. We are living in the finest country on earth, warts and all. Wishing you a wonderful Sunday.

  2. Have a blessed Sunday. One comment. As crude as Trump sometimes is, he has transplanted a spine into the Republican Party. They finally fight back. I don’t think the timing is an accident.

    Bunkerville, well said.

Law and Order….yes, “transplanted a spine…” No, the timing is no accident.
Particularly when I just listened for 2 minutes to Colin Powell and Madeleine Albright on CNN talking about her book FASCISM, in which she apparently suggests Trump is leading us into FASCISM…along with “Poland, Hungary..” , whose inclusion is no surprise since those are about the only 2 countries not accepting hordes of illegal immigrants. No coincidence there.
Colin Powell; Not sure how ANYBODY could have fallen more in my estimation so fast.

How they feel Trump is bringing Fascism to us because he isn’t sucking up to every country which wants a piece of us is beyond me………

Apparently, finally standing up for Republicans is Fascism? But, we have to remember that these are people who’d say they don’t support Anti-Fa are lying… they’re just not brave enough to understand or discuss that groups which PROHIBIT OPEN DISCUSSIONS (like at Berkeley, etc., which is where a lot of AntiFa protests) are exactly that: FASCISTS.

  4. Colin Powell is now a full blown Democrat. Which is fine. Just don’t mascarade as a Republican. It started with Obama and he just stayed on with the Dems. I still admire his service in the military and in the government. It’s just a matter of honesty. He should no longer be looked at as a Republican voice. He’s a never Trumper and a member of those Country Club Republicans that believe we need to sacrifice some of our power to fit into the world. In short, he agrees with Obama.

Has it really been 9 years since Mr Z died, Z? Wow! It just doesn’t seem that long ago.
I agree that Americans are finally waking up, too. I was really surprised one Dem. voted to confirm Kavanaugh! Nice to see at least one of ’em actually thinks for themselves.

Ms. Z…you are both in my thoughts and prayers today and every year on this day. And I’ve known you for a long time now. Our friendship may be long distance, but its one of the better ones I have made in my long life, regardless of the geography.

Trump might appear as a Fascist to some but Middle America certainly doesn’t see him that way. He has been doing is exactly what he promised and what his backers wanted and expected from him. He had to come on strong to counter all that the left has been throwing at him since he announced his candidacy back in 2015. It took someone that could dish it right back and that continues to frustrate the ba-jeez out of ’em.
We keep saying people new to this country must learn to obey our laws and customs. But how can we expect them to take that seriously when the losing side refuses to accept the outcome of an election?

As I read somewhere this mornin . . . “I felt a great disturbance in the Farce . . . as if millions of heads simultaneously exploded and shrill, whiny voices cried out pitifully in their butthurt . . . and a large cohort of walking dead was suddenly crippled and left stranded.”

I’ve never seen STAR WARS, but I strongly suspect that is the cultural referent for that paraphrase.

Now . . . that said, I’m not entirely certain Kavanaugh will be the Scalia many on the right hope and everyone on the left fears he will. In fact, I wouldn’t be a’tall surprised to see him pull a John Roberts one day to justify his confirmation by no more than that exhausted lean-in at the last minnit . . . y’know, prove he ain’t biased none.

Nice that he’s there instead of someone Shrillary would’ve nominated, but I don’t believe he’ll be the new broom who’ll single-handedly disinfect that neoclassical building on First Street with the Corinthian columns, purify the air along the Potomac, and sweep out the Halfrican detritus from the Capitol.

Maybe when Amy Barrett is seated . . . .

As for being grateful, I’m glad I had the good sense to latch onto this woman who’s been followin me around since 1961. Can’t seem to shake her. Best thing that ever happened to me, tho. A touch meshuggah now and then, and still potentially dangerous when irked, but precisely the right prescription pour moi . . . in all respects.

As I put on the cover page of this year’s birthday card for her

Eighty Years Ago God Made You

And Then He Said, “Tah Dahh!”

Only thing is, she’s a helluva lot better lookin at 80 than I am at 78.

I am grateful to have Trump as our shield. I think of that verse about having your shield of faith that extinguishes the fiery darts of the evil one. He’s taking the fiery darts for us!

In the last 2 weeks I have turned 2 apartments, one of which had a ‘minor’ kitchen renovation. This is non-stop activity over 3 weeks with as many as 4 trades on-site at once (a small miracle on our parking restricted street that has 2 big construction projects already), and more runaround and hard labor than I care to do at my age. (25,000 steps yesterday – 11 miles. I am grateful my legs work.) I am grateful my body held out, particularly a damaged tendon that can no longer do much work with that hand, my last tenant just moved into this morning and I have a lull in the patching, painting, scrubbing, repairs, and surprises.

I still have work to fine tune esoteric repairs you can’t just hire out, and I am grateful for the internet!! that I just found a video on YouTube that will help me to frame my questions properly when I start calling. This is the 4th item like this in 10 days, and I now have to figure these things out by myself. Thank God (yes – another grateful) I can ask my contractor brother questions for direction.

I am grateful for the exceptionally beautiful weather and clear skies for what’s often a smoggy time of year. And today as I look back on the lack 3 weeks of hell I am grateful for Jehovah-jireh, the Lord who has provided at every step.

L & W, I was so disappointed once I’d seen Powell turning into Obama….How anyone can sacrifice their scruples and values for sticking with their race is beyond me. SOMEDAY, ALL Black Americans will finally understand we look at them as AMERICANS, no matter WHAT color, and grow up and act like one. This country was VERY good to Powell, and he was good to it, how he could turn and support such liberal ideology is beyond me.
And yes, I actually don’t think CNN refers to him as Republican anymore (that would truly be a farce) but there was discussion this morning on MEDIABUZZ (a show I like a lot) how “Republicans” are being loved IF THEY HATE TRUMP. That woman I extremely unkindly refer to as “the fat little liberal hispanic who says she’s a Republican” (I think her name is Ana Navarro?) is a JOKE. There are a few of these folks who say they’re Republicans and never spout a WORD of Republican values …

ON THE OTHER HAND, I’m sick and tired of FOX having terrific panels on but always including Mo Elliason or Goodstein (or whatever his name is), or Richard Fowler, or the really RABID Leftwingers they have on ALL DAY LONG. I have to laugh when FOX is referred to as BIASED and CNN has rightwingers who really are NOT, and even they’re RARELY on!…But CNN IS OPEN MINDED :-)! HAAA!

Bocopro, I LOVE how you love your wife!!! I didn’t know she’s a COUGAR 🙂

Baysider, glad it’s all done and went well!!
