Election Day

The Left has introduced a bill to make Election Day a Federal holiday.

I think it’s a grand idea but there’s much fighting between the Dems and Reps.   I think what’s causing the fighting is about an additional part of the bill which involves ETHICS….more about this:

“It would also put stronger ethical constraints on the executive branch, in part by making it more difficult for people to move through the “revolving door” between public and private sector work, and by strengthening the Office of Government Ethics. The bill also contains a section on campaign finance disclosure.

Cummings, the committee’s new chair (“oh, God!”), called the bill “one of the boldest reform packages to be considered in the history of this body,” adding that it would “clean up in government, fight secret money in politics and make it easier for American citizens across this great country to vote.” …which is probably a buzz word for ILLEGAL VOTING, NO ID NECESSARY, and “COME ONE, COME ALL” …..stupid, stupid, stupid.

But what do you think of Election Day being a day off?  If they do that, I believe we should ONLY vote on THAT DAY.

THOUGHTS?!!

It is a great idea. With the day off, a Democrat can easily visit five, ten, maybe fifteen separate voting precincts to cast his or her vote. I’m actually surprised the Democrats don’t want to lower the voting age to around five or six years of age.

Hey . . . if voting by the average guy on the street changed anything, you can bet your bippy that the entrenched career politicians would’ve outlawed it decades ago.

I say only active-duty military and foreign-service personnel get absentee ballots, and this early voting merde cease immediately. Clean up the voter-registration rolls. Valid picture I.D. or you don’t vote. I’d like to see some form of literacy test for eligibility, too.

Get caught voting twice or without eligibility, $10,000 fine. Automatic. Intimidate voters a la Black Panthers, lose eligibility and spend 30 days in the juzgado. Falsify documents or computer records, ditto.

And since most teenagers’ cerebra haven’t fully matured to the level of making decisions based on rational analysis instead of on name appeal, popularity ratings, and hormonal dysfunction, voting age set at 22.

Persons in drug rehab, on welfare, in prison, on parole, or chronically unemployed automatically ineligible.

Now I’ve upset myself. Time for a Krispy Kreme chocoglaze and a mug of toxic dark brown fluid from the Keurig.

Incidentally, my bride of more than half a century refuses to register to vote. Says all politicians are crooks and the system is rigged and corrupt; “they’re going to do whatever they want anyway, and that’s never in the best interests of the voters, so what’s the point?”

‘Course this is the woman who calls me her “white monkey” and says America might be the best place in the world to live, but the people running it are “sira ulo” (mentally damaged).

Clean up in government … ha! How many “clean up” efforts have we seen in our own lifetime? If we understand human nature, then we know from the outset that Cummings is a lying POS. He will never sponsor a bill that works against his own personal interests. He’s probably received more “secret money” than almost anyone in Congress, except John Conyers. No doubt by using the term “American citizens,” he’s speaking about illegals from Mexico and Central America, who are technically also American citizens. You’re right … illegal voting won’t be illegal any more if he has his way, and of course, he will have his way.

Another word on the proposed federal holiday: they will never give up absentee ballots. This is how Democrats win elections (note the voting disparities in Arizona, Minnesota, Wisconsin, California, Texas). And this makes these people thieves … they steal elections and disempower the legal voter. This isn’t something the federal government can control, however. It is an aggressive cancer within state and local voting commissions, which are absolutely partisan (as in Broward County, Florida). The problem in our country is that we have too many people like Cummings in positions of power and influence in the national politics. I do favor term limitations, and I would limit it to ONE term in office.

How about setting aside a day after the election day is over in case the right outcome wasn’t achieved? Those unhappy just go out and vote again?
That is what is going on in Maine.. Just keep screwing around with the election vote until the fella with the most votes loses.

Absolutely not. It will only allow for even more voter fraud! People could visit multiple polls and vote all day. Ridiculous.

I’d agree, but ONLY if the second Tuesday of November was the ONLY day for voting. And I suspect that it would do nothing for turnout in off-year elections that have mostly to do with State and/or Local issues.

I’m quite sure this is based on the democrats recognizing they will never win another national election if only legal voters vote and vote fraud is reduced substantially. So, it’s a scam.

I’d like to see a system where eligible voters with valid SS numbers log on to a .gov site and say I want to vote. Couple weeks before the vote send out a mag strip or chip card with a unique ID per card. Voter takes it in, hands it to the folks who sit behind the big tables and run the polling place. That person swipes it, confirms it is valid, hasn’t been used before, then hands the person their ballot, then destroys the card.

The number of ballots turned in must match the number of cars swiped.

    I don’t see how….please explain!

FJ has a point…what about midterms, etc etc?

Kid pretty much describes the more sane voting mode in Europe….they use their ID card, it is swiped and can’t be swiped again; end of problem.

Well . . . I truly believe that given the attitudes and demonstrated behavior of people involved in the election process, especially ballot handling and counting, no mechanism can be installed which would eliminate the temptation of fraud, complicity, and manipulation.

Ergo, I say absentee ballots only for bona fide government employees whose assignments in other areas make voting at their assigned precincts impossible . . . and that includes the military.

BUT . . . the only reason I’d give even THEM absentee options is to assuage any fears they might develop about being disenfranchised because of government or military service.

I do NOT believe that in any given year the ballots are returned OR counted in time for them to have the slightest impact on elections.

Sorry for the downer, but that’s the way I read it. Sometimes you’re the windshield and sometimes you’re the bug. Life ain’t always fair.

Reading the reports of ballots being altered, lost, hidden, ignored, and even faked will make you wonder if we can trust the results of ANY election, EVER.

If you Google that topic (e.g.: number of absentee ballots in 2016 genelec) you’ll be overwhelmed by the graft, corruption, fraud, and downright cheating going on, particularly with the military ballots, which often arrive without postmarks because of free mail service from certain areas. If they’re counted at all, the process can involve deliberately sorting and counting only those desired and just tossing the others into the “late arrival” pile.

Based on what I read on that specific issue, I’m not even sure Hillary DID win the popular vote, much less the EC vote. It was certainly a helluva lot closer than the DNC wants us to believe, if she won it at all, but piles and piles of absentee ballots were never counted.

Democrats always want to make it easier for people to vote. I think it’s too serious an action, requiring too much thought, with too many consequences and impacts, to be made “easy”.

Ahh. The joy of thinking deep thoughts. Thanks, Bocopro for this timely tidbit, “Sometimes you’re the windshield and sometimes you’re the bug.” That thought alone is worth a contemplative drink or two.

There’s no way there should be a federal holiday just to vote. Right now, we have at least a whole month worth of early voting, and even those early voting polls get crowded with wait time of an hour or more. Absentee ballots have their logical place, but as mentioned before, are rarely counted, and when counted are subject to easy miscounting or outright fraud.

Bocopro has it right about absentee votes not always being counted. For years, and maybe currently, absentee votes in Georgia are not counted at all if the winning candidate is far enough ahead that mail-in and absentee ballots would make no difference in the election outcome. Thus, we have no idea what the national popular vote is, nor can we trust the numbers states report.

How can we guarantee honest elections? I don’t think we can unless we attach an identity chip to every person, and even then there would be fraudulent id chips on the black market.

BOB…it IS possible…people have an ID CARD, it is only possible to swipe once to vote, then that’s it…no more card with which to vote. European style. It works.

I hate Absentee voting…I’ve done it but I believe that is a TOTAL FRAUD MACHINE.

WE MUST GET RID OF PROVISIONAL BALLOTS…..THEY ARE THE WORST THING EVER. NOBODY EVER LOOKS IN THEM….THEY ALL GO DOWNTOWN TO THE HEAD VOTING-COUNTING PLACE AND DO YOU REALLY THINK SOMEONE GETS ON A CHAIR AND ASKS “HEY, ANYBODY HAVE A SUZANNE JOHNSON VOTING ANYWHERE BUT SANTA MONICA?” OF course not!! THEY SHOULD BE G O N E yesterday.

I am sorry I failed to mention the biggest reason why I don’t want just one day to vote. It is physically impossible for all the voters in our precinct to vote in one day. The county would have to open up at least three more polling locations to handle the population, and would have to buy dozens more voting machines while hiring several more Democrats to man the polls.

Recognize this problem is spread across a population of the Atlanta metro area last listed with a population of 4,515,419. I wouldn’t want to even think about the problems a Los Angeles or New York City would have. Four hours waiting times would not be uncommon.

In the 2016 election the wait at our precinct was over two hours. Interesting that our current Congressional Rep, Tom Price, was within seven or eight people of use in the line. He’s a pretty good guy.

I like the idea of only 1 day for voting so illegal voting would be cut to just the one day. Also, I have said the same thing Bocopro did about the minimum age requirement, only I would make it even higher, perhaps 28 or 30, after they’ve been around the block a few times and understand what they’re doing.

Mal, I would favor the idea of only allowing people to vote who paid a net positive amount in Income, + Property taxes in the current voting period (since the last vote to the current vote)

Of course, in order to prove that, you’d need a valid SS #. Which also addresses the illegal vote.
