Dinner was DELICIOUS!

I don’t usually get hyperbolic about sandwiches, but DING’S CHICKEN SANDWICH is probably THE BEST sandwich I’ve ever eaten.  It’s sublime, a very crispy piece of fried chicken breast,  tangy fresh slaw, a slice of tomato , a slice of Swiss cheese, and all on a buttered, hot brioche bun that stays crispy till you’re finished eating; I drool as I type…the ingredients themselves aren’t anything special but put them together?  OH MAN!!  But I digress, and I have to since you all know I’m such a foodie!)

Yes, dinner was delicious.  My dinner companion was a girlfriend from Bible study who I haven’t had dinner with in probably a year.   This friend is A LIBERAL but I like her very much.  She used to write speeches for her good friend Bobby Shriver and has edited books, etc.  The way she became a strong believer is being hired to edit a book about how the Bible’s bunk, and with her (wildly) cynical mind, decides to join a Bible study so she can understand WHAT bunk it is and revel in editing this book which will set all those Christians straight.

Then she becomes a Christian because, as terribly intelligent and cynical as she is, it got to her.  Reading it WORKED as it has on SO many people I know. She’s been there now for about 35 years.  Honestly.     Here it goes, the reason for my post:

Me;  That sandwich was so delicious…no wonder it’s been haunting me since last time I had it about a year ago!

Her:  My salmon was great, too.

A bit of chatter from us each, then THIS:

Me:  ….So,  two women in my core group I lead left because they felt something  said was political (it wasn’t) and they thought our leader is anti-gay (she isn’t, except from a Biblical point of view, we welcome all, as long as they’re willing to listen and study with us).

Her:  Well, someone asked me if  she and I were in the minority being liberals at this study and I told her there were quite a few but probably  less than conservatives.

Me:  I agree, there are plenty of liberals even in our leadership, but you have to admit Conservatives are more Bible-minded than liberals are….when you consider abortion, homosexuality and many other things….the values stuff….

Her:  Oh, no…..the far Left is more Christian than Conservatives are….consider immigration……..Leftwingers are much kinder than this president, that’s for SURE, in his treatment of ‘migrants.’

Me;  Funny, there are no people less for illegal immigration than the Mexicans I hear call into Conservative talk radio and complain about them…

Her (surprised, maybe even shocked):  Mexicans?

Me:  Yes! many of them!  And other foreigners, too.  By the way, what’s unkind about wanting children not to be abused by coyotes, and being DNA tested so they can be reunited with their real families and not used for money…..And, by the way, what about the diseases immigrants are bringing, like measles, typhoid, TB and polio,  diseases which had  been conquered in N. America?

Me;  right, except where did measles suddenly COME FROM after being gone for so many years?  We’ve been vaccinating but the disease SHOWED UP!  from what?? …..I WILL ALWAYS PUT AMERICAN CHILDREN FIRST….WE MUST PROTECT THEM AND PROTECT OUR COUNTRY….. We can’t deny them a future because we’re going broke supporting millions of illegals.

Her:  We can do BOTH.

Me:  What about the horrid DEFICIT?

Her:  puzzled expression.    Not implying she doesn’t know about the deficit, but she was clearly exasperated.

Yes, to the world, leftwingers are SO MUCH KINDER, MORE CHRISTIAN.   Something she’d probably say about me is what I’m saying about her this morning:

SACRIFICING REASON ON THE ALTAR OF ONE’S PREFERENCES.…And THAT, my friends, is dangerous.   From either side.

We stopped talking politics and actually wrapped it up for the evening… We left in fine moods, but it sure got me thinking.

She knows me.  She knows I’m a Republican.  Does she think I’m UNKIND?    Of course not!  yet……….

The Bible is for all…….Left and Right……and yes, kindness and love and goodness are what it pushes for…SO MAYBE SHE’S RIGHT AND I’M WRONG because I put American children first.  I really like this gal and felt frustrated that we both realized we might want to end that type of discussion.  Again.  This isn’t the first time, of course.

I don’t want Mexican, Honduran, Guatemalan, etc., children HURT!   She must know that?  Trump doesn’t want them hurt, who does?

  1. I’m more interested in the interaction in your Bible study.
We used to have three very liberal members in mine.
One was a Social Security admin, so that’s understandable. She’s in a rest home now and we visit her. A lot of poor personal choices.
One is on medicaid and social security and entirely dependent on government due to her life choices. We (Scherie and I) did a lot to support her, including lending her our spare car on weekends so she could drive her 28 year old son to his job, and in return she nursed Scherie after her last surgery.
One day she realized half the church carried pistols into church and demanded we leave them home or she would leave. She did.
The third is black, and he and his wife were Obama supporters.
He played bass behind me in worship.
    They left for another church
He is now more conservative than many and calls in regularly to the conservative radio station I’m on, including my show.
Anyone who reads my blog would know of some of the political content we have discovered in the Bible. Jesus cleaning the swamp and being accused of collusion.

    To answer your question:
He asked His people to separate themselves from the world, but to welcome the stranger.
But the stranger had to follow the rules.
“The poor you will have with you always.” This tells me that you could throw everything you have at poverty and it would still exist, so you do what the Spirit leads you to.

So that sandwich is better than a Chic-Fil-A? Wow!

Political differences have ruined many a friendship, for sure, but I don’t believe it was always thus. When I was growing up we all wanted the same things, but differed on how to do it. No questions about patriotism, rejection of Socialism, gender identity, immigration policy, etc, etc, etc. AND…..very importantly, all news media was believable and verifiable so arriving to decisions was easy. No swamp to drain. No self-endowing politicians.

  3. bunkerville says:

I find that what stumps most of them is when you ask them how many is enough”migrants.” I keep pushing that question, and they always want to run from it.

Perfect description of today’s communists. Their level of being informed is off the Richter scale in the wrong direction just like AOC’s IQ.

Any time I am talking to someone who is pro-migration, I point out that India has 1.5 billion people and at least a billion of them would love to come and live in America’s poverty level. So, where does the line get drawn. They don’t have a clue of course because they haven’t and probably couldn’t think through the logistics if their life depended on it. They just want to sit with their little smile and superior attitude projecting how they love everyone and everyone should have a good life and bla bla bla. The minds of 3 yr olds.

Once again, no description is needed for these people beside 3 yr old brats exhibiting various levels of violence.

  5. Kid says:

Bunk, Didn’t see your comment while writing mine. Yes, exactly !

  6. Baysider says:

I think I would have said exactly the same thing – since I know and like your dinner companion and can completely picture the conversation. 🙂 I might add our president treats migrants beautifully. Even the lawbreakers are treated respectfully while they are being [sometimes] escorted out of the country they broke in to. I wonder if those with our friend’s view complained when Obama ‘locked them up in cages.’ Oh, you didn’t know this wasn’t a “Trump policy”?

It would be hard to get past ‘the left is more Christian’ since they patently are not. Abortion; aggressive (not laissez-faire) homosexuality and multiple sexuality (I had a lovely lady in my group who was grateful for all the multiple genders being recognized and I would say she is left of center); ersatz marriage; disregard for the genuine protective role of providing reasonable security (look at San Fran today not to mention our border); truth is not a value (it is quickly jettisoned to get what they want). These alone brand their adherents at odds with Christ.

While it doesn’t make them non-Christian, it does make them often inconsistent with the teachings of the leader they profess to follow. We ALL can examine our lives for this, but leftist Christians are hampered by running with a crowd that AS POLICY willfully denies the authority (nay, even the existence) of Jesus and God over our lives.

  7. Kid says:

MAL, The Temptations 1971 – Ball of Confusion. Posted before and Bay gave a nice youtube link to go with.

Problem today is “they” are or trying to tear down all of our cultural givens. Those things we easily accepted as core values to American society. Man and Woman, You do your thing I’ll do mine and we don’t care as long as no one gets hurt, at 14 I want a drivers license!, I want a job, I want to see how good I can get at fill in the blank, respect for parents and elders. Men protect women when needed… Long list I’m sure you know, and not much of it seemingly preserved with today’s younger generations, at least not from reading through the news.

Point: If you don’t believe in anything, you’ll accept anything they shove in your face. Sooner or later you’re a guy prancing around Walmart in a short skirted fairy outfit. (No, not me!)

People moving out, people moving in
Why, because of the color of their skin
Run, run, run but you sure can’t hide
An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth
Vote for me and I’ll set you free
    Rap on, brother, rap on

Well, the only person talking about love thy brother is the (preacher)
And it seems nobody’s interested in learning but the (teacher)
Segregation, determination, demonstration, integration, Aggravation, humiliation, obligation to our nation
Ball of confusion. Oh yeah, that’s what the world is today. Woo, hey, hey

The sale of pills are at an all time high
Young folks walking round with their heads in the sky
The cities ablaze in the summertime
And oh, the beat goes on

Evolution, revolution, gun control, sound of soul
Shooting rockets to the moon, kids growing up too soon
Politicians say more taxes will solve everything

    And the band played on
So, round and around and around we go
Where the world’s headed, nobody knows

Oh, great googamooga, can’t you hear me talking to you
    Just a ball of confusion
Oh yeah, that’s what the world is today
    Woo, hey, hey

Fear in the air, tension everywhere
Unemployment rising fast, the Beatles new record’s a gas

And the only safe place to live is on an Indian reservation

    And the band played on
Eve of destruction, tax deduction, city inspectors, bill collectors
Mod clothes in demand, population out of hand, suicide, too many bills
Hippies moving to the hills. People all over the world are shouting, ‘End the war.’

    And the band played on

Great googalooga, can’t you hear me talking to you
    Sayin’… ball of confusion
That’s what the world is today, hey, hey
Let me hear ya, let me hear ya, let me hear ya
    Sayin’… ball of confusion
That’s what the world is today, hey, hey
Let me hear ya, let me hear ya, let me hear ya, let me hear ya, let me hear ya
    Sayin’… ball of confusion

  8. Baysider says:

Definitely a ball of confusion!! And who is the author of confusion?

I asked Mr.B the question above on immigration: where do you draw the line? Without missing a beat he said “at the ocean” which we might take to include the Rio Grande.

  9. Kid says:

Author of confusion = communists/democrats. Job 1 demoralization.

  10. Mal says:

Kid, I certainly remember The Temptations but not the song. I was more into instrumental jazz so had those stations on most of the time, I guess.
    I dig the words, though!

  11. Mal says:

Z, speaking of food……….we get takeout a couple of times a week from Cafe Rio. There is always a line up because the food is prepared fresh right in front of you……..and delicious, too!

  12. geeez2014 says:

Had brunch with a friend who’s politically moderate….she despises Trump. Almost every Conservative I know, too, doesn’t like him. They won’t vote for a Dem, but they probably won’t vote in Nov 2020. Ticks me off because not voting R means casting a D vote…don’t they GET IT?
EVERY ONE OF THEM ‘sort of’ likes what Trump is doing but can’t STAND his name calling and silly responses to nonsensical attacks. They’re really weary; as am I.

Today, we ate and talked and politics came up……..”Polar Bears are dying off” Not so fast, I said, there is proof they’re actually multiplying! She doesn’t believe me. TRUMP DOESN”T CARE ABOUT THE CLIMATE. I said “Do you really think ANYBODY wants dirty air and water? He got us out of the Paris Accord because it does NOTHING but charges us a TON for doing nothing…”
Finally, I changed the subject. WHAT’S THE USE?

Ed, our Bible Study is thriving…a few who leave is VERY rare and politics are NOT DISCUSSED; that’s how we keep so strong around the world.
and yes, the fact that Jesus said there would always be poor is a great quote I use…he also said that those who don’t work won’t eat. pretty compelling.

Baysider…thanks…I knew you’d know who I was talking about! And, you know, her son-in-law makes ME look liberal 🙂

ALL OF YOU have great input…thanks! GOOD to read and absorb.;…

  13. geeez2014 says:
Sending this and another article saying how much polar bear numbers are growing to the friend I brunched with today, and is so worried about polar bears since she saw a film on their demise.
    Oh, REALLLLY??? 🙂

  14. Kid says:

You will find it Easy to get a Polar Bear hunting license. Too easy.

  15. Kid says:

Z, very little changes. Very little new under the sun.

  16. geeez2014 says:

Kid, not too fond of that idea….’too easy’ is bad, isn’t it.
    “very little changes’??
