I honor the great apologist Ravi Zacharias upon his untimely passing about 2 weeks ago.  He was an amazing man, going into atheistic Oxford, Harvard, etc., and taking questions about Christianity and answering them from FAITH and from FACTS.   Astonishing man.    Here are just three of his many provocative quotes:

“I think the reason we sometimes have the false sense that God is so far away is because that is where we have put him. We have kept him at a distance, and then when we are in need and call on him in prayer, we wonder where he is. He is exactly where we left him.”

“We talk so much about one’s rights…so little about what is actually right.”

“A man rejects God neither because of intellectual demands nor because of the scarcity of evidence. A man rejects God because of a moral resistance that refuses to admit his need for God.”

Rest in peace, Ravi Zacharias.   You were a favorite of mine and you’ll never be forgotten by millions of people around the world.  May those you trained become as prolific, as God-centered, ready to work hard, ready with smart and convincing answers to the  tough questions of seekers and challenging atheists, and as kind and encouraging as you were.

Z  (Side note;  when I Googled to find an image of Mr. Zacharias, there were many pictures but the first was a picture of him with “CAUGHT LYING” written over his picture.  The first one.  THAT is how threatening, how excellent, how convincing he could be;  it scared people….so they had to besmirch…)

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE ASTRONAUTS WHO LEFT EARTH YESTERDAY. GOOD CHOICE.

(saw that on Facebook and had to share it…I burst into laughter….it’s so true!)

Ed…yes, that’s being said about Zacharias…. as BIG a fan of Lewis’ as I am, Ravi had something special; it could just be because I’ve only rarely heard Lewis on tape….and Ravi was SO ‘everywhere’ on tape, videos, etc…We got to see his interactions with Oxford atheists, Harvard Atheists, and saw what he could do…As I’ve said the way he presented “Faith with FACTS”…..made a big impression on me years ago. And it made a huge impression on atheists, etc….who couldn’t flummox the man! Lewis probably did that in person, too, tho he was somewhat less ‘out there’ as a personality than Ravi was….

I know nothing of Zacharias. For some reason I have not run on his writings. There are lots of books by him on Amazon, and was wondering if someone could recommend one for me.

Bob, I kept trying to put the Amazon link here but it wasn’t working for some reason. His autobiography, WALKING FROM EAST TO WEST, is a terrific book and a good way to ‘get to know him’ …..He did amazing work at universities like Oxford and Harvard, Yale…..in front of atheists….He was an astonishing apologist and he really opened eyes to at least consider faith..I hope you read the book….I was so sad when I’d finished it. I must have loaned it to someone a while back because I can’t find it here so I ordered it last week and should get my new copy this week….I generally buy used paperbacks because they’re SO cheap, but I got this new…it’s worth it to me 🙂

I still have his series “Let My People Think” on my iPod. So insightful, so right. “A man rejects God because…” Bingo!

He responded to the person, he made the person his focus, not just a canned message. I look forward to reading his book Seeing Jesus From the East. Co-authored with Abdu Murray who was first drawn to Ravi when he brought poetry into his talk in the manner that infuses traditional cultures in the ME and mid Asia. Abdu said “here was a man that spoke my language!” I agree. Heaven’s gain.

And to answer your question from yesterday, I make “semi-keto” enchiladas with a base of corn tortillas in the pan – it only takes 3. Easier to serve, and way easier on the tummy.

The crazy thing about Zacharias is that he was headquartered in the Atlanta area. The HQ is in Alpharetta, Georgia and is about five miles from my house. In other words the HQ is in the neighborhood. I am not sure why I have been so ignorant of him but he apparently did not have a church where he was the regular pastor.

I have bought a Kindle book The Logic of God by Zacharias and am looking forward to reading it.

If anyone is out there and reading now, we could use some prayers. Very intense police, fire and chopper activity here for hours. Looters across the street and tear gas drifting in. Ugh – sore throat and stinging eyes.

More instigators tearing things up here in Atlanta. Police are in a zero tolerance attitude, and are backed up by National Guard. The cops are not playing around. Andrew Young, former Atlanta major, has repeatedly been interviewed by local news stations and says if you are here in Atlanta to make trouble, get out of town.

I know you’re a light sleeper…I hope the sounds don’t keep you awake.

Well, one of the choppers circling above us had to tell Mr. B to get back inside when he went on the porch to look out. That close.

I never think of myself as a light sleeper, but I guess with all the stories you’ve heard of me being awakened by Mr. B’s antics that I no longer sleep through everything, which I did 5 years ago.

And Barbara … is still in town?? She’s lovely.

Baysider! You barely slept for months when they were doing the work on the train! Didn’t you have to go to the grocery store and sleep in your car? And no, NOBODY could sleep through what Mr B puts you through !!!

Yes, Barbara and Denny were here for only this week…I was delighted to be asked and couldn’t have had a nicer time. He’s a wonderful guy, too. They now stay at a son’s house when they come to town because he’s moved to S.F., and she showed me the areas of the big fire last Fall (I guess it was almost 2 yrs ago now, yes?)…..Baysider, the fire LITERALLY came TO 50′ from their front door and all around the house……..and didn’t BURN THE HOUSE. She’d told my group it was like a miracle and it WAS…to actually see the darkness, the old burned trees, etc…amazing.
