Regarding the Supreme Court Justice Position…and TRUMP:

I was wondering:

Is it better to have Trump get his nominee NOW, before the election?

Or is it better to tell who he’ll nominate and then have the election?

Here is why I wonder:

There are a LOT of Republicans who didn’t vote for Trump or anyone else in 2016….(trust me, I know several personally and we all know groups like the Lincoln Project, and we know that many, many Christians did not vote..)   Many Conservatives didn’t like him ONE BIT.    BUT, they desperately want the SCOTUS to lean RIGHT.

If he gets a 6-3 court NOW, will the never-Trumpers then abandon him at the election because they got their way?

If he does not get the Justice confirmed before the election, will the never-Trumpers be more likely to vote for him and push him into another 4 years to make sure he’s in office and has the opportunity to nominate a Conservative justice?

Ver-r-y eentairesteeng point, but I don’t see how the arithmetic produces a 6-3 given what’s there now . . . it’d be a shaky 5-4 at best, with Roberts oscillating back and forth across the centerline like a loose G string on a cheap bass viol.

When Mr. Neeves ‘splained ’bout gummint to me back in high school (senior year, civics & goverment class, 1958), I heard that the justices were there as the final arbiters on controversies created BY politics, not resolve them based on their own party affiliation preferences.

Them folks in the black robes is s’posedtabe above all that political merde, n’est ce-pas?

Or did I miss somethin . . . or did somethin change . . . or are we just whistlin dixie whilst the republic sheds all the safeguards of balance of power, electoral college, and patriotism and reverts to mob rule?

Besides, Roe/Wade with all its flawed and threadbare logic, none of which can be found ANYwhere in the Constitution, is essentially mox nix where the wealthy are concerned . . . they’ll do what they want regardless of the law, including infanticide.

Helluva criterion for selecting who’ll interpret a purty straightforward piece of guidance from them old white-haired white men 240 years back.

It’s bad enough that the Supremes are unelected despots.
Yet they are approved by our elected representatives and proposed by our elected President.
Not a future elected President or a future Senate.

Do it now! Don’t leave such an important generational change open to chance. He will be rewarded for his courage and convictions by doing it before the election, politics be damned. Besides, it will only help him politically. Never Trumpers will never vote for him. MANY conservative voters who skipped 2016 WILL vote for him, (I’m one of them) especially if he gets this done now. I was one of those who vowed never to vote for another Romney or McCain, as they are just democrat lites. Trump may not be a traditional conservative, but his accomplishments certainly are. He will be punished if he doesn’t try to get this pick over the finish line before the election IMO.

Damn the Never Trumpers. I’ve had it up to my eyebrows with them.

Do it before the election so the Senate can vote before the election. Then RINO pukes like Romney, Collins, Murkowski, and one other than eludes my huckleberry brain at the moment will have to vote knowing that if they vote Nay, they will likely lose their senate seat which they should anyway but that’s another subject.

Jerry for President in 2025. I think Mr. Trump should push forward on his nominee now. Thanks Kid, for reminding me what a piece of crap Romney is.

KID is right…something I’d forgotten….we need the senate NOW to vote…not that we can count on it right now, but we do have a better chance now…before THEIR elections.

Romney’s actually making sounds like he WILL vote for Trump’s choice…let’s see. What an awful, disingenuous man he is.

Jerry and AOW, I’m glad to hear you say that….about Never Trumpers; I HOPE you’re right!

BOCOPRO …you say “I heard that the justices were there as the final arbiters on controversies created BY politics, not resolve them based on their own party affiliation preferences.”
Me, too. And it’s one thing to sniff some politics in decisions lately, but to have RBG out there advocating for abortion, advocating for her leftwing stances, was nasty and set a terrible precedent.

    ED…No, “NOT A FUTURE…” Exactly.
You know, when she died Friday night, I wondered if this was a GOD thing….that He knows this could cause more Christians and some Never-Trumpers to vote Trump.

Thats a very interesting concept, Z. It never entered my mind that withholding the vote could in any way help get him elected. Nonetheless, I vote with the others to do it now and damn the torpedoes!

And Boco, I’m glad you specified the “loose G-string” was on a cheap bass viol!

I watched Kayleigh’s presser this morning…..They asked about SCOTUS, of course (after the insults to Trump, many of them, re COVID) and never once did she use the term CONSERVATIVE in reference to a nominee……….She used CONSTITUTIONAL and TEXTURALIST…I was so relieved since no pres should use the term of his ideology (tho we all know they DO think it)….

Shortly after, John Roberts reported from the WH to FOX and said SHE SAID THE PRESIDENT WILL NOMINATE A CONSERVATIVE TO THE BENCH. No, she didn’t say that… THEN the banner that’s underneath the video said WH: TRUMP CHOOSING CONSERVATIVE SCOTUS CANDIDATE.

No, they did NOT SAY THAT….She NEVER used the term. This pissed me off.

But not as PISSED OFF as when poor Harris Faulkner had to CUT OFF THE TALK of a military bigwig who Kayleigh asked to come up and disparage as a TOTAL LIE that young woman Olivia Trojes’s suggesting that Trump said vile things at many of the COVID meetings…I do believe Trump would say he didn’t mind not shaking hands because of COVID so he doesn’t have to shake with disgusting people.!!!..(sorry, I do…even if it was meant in jest)…..She’s said other really horrible things and this guy said she was a disgruntled employee who worked under him and he’d had to fire her…AND Kayleigh included a letter this girl had written only a month or so ago saying how much she LOVED her job with Trump..blah blah blah. So, she’s a liar and awful.
But FOX cut the bigwig off 1 minute into his talk……..I think I said OUT LOUD “What the…?” and changed to OAN, where they showed the whole thing…and were behind about sixty seconds so I didn’t miss any of his talk.

There is Nothing the left won’t do. This isn’t politics, it is war. It is a literal war between left and right. I hope more and more people see it that way soon.

I watched a bit of Trump’s Ohio rally and he said, loosely quoted, Some people don’t like my personality, they say Trump doesn’t have a good personality. I say who cares. I know plenty of people who do not have personalities I like but they do a great job, so who cares ?

Say’s it about as good as I could. To anyone who is thinking “I just can’t vote for that Maayan”, I hope they start thinking about who is going to get the job done and what the landscape will be for 340 million people depending on which side is running things. Perfection is impossible, Don’t have to sleep with the guy. Etc. This isn’t Reagan and Tip O’Neil anymore and it never will be again.

    Thank you for listening. 🙂

On a lighter note, what Are the dems going to accuse Amy Comey Barrett of ?

And I’m sure it doesn’t help that Barrett firearms makes a .50 cal military sniper rifle or that Amy Barrett is better looking that all the democrat women put together after a marathon make over combined with CGI.

  12. geeez2014 says:

    They’re in firearms! WHO KNEW!?
And yes, she is VERY pretty!
AND 7 kids, two of whom are Haitian kids, one with health problems….
    QUITE a woman.

But, you know, she’s “too Catholic” 🙂 Imagine? Feinstein apparently said Barrett has too much DOGMA….so I guess we only can have atheists…………which about says it all, to me.

  13. kidme37 says:

Z, Yea, they will hammer on the Christian element as they have with America in general these past few years. Won’t do em any good.

  14. geeez2014 says:

Kid, I was stunned the other day to hear FOX’s Melissa Francis say “They would never say anything negative about a Jew or a Muslim, but let a Christian …” HOOORAY! That is guts you don’t often hear, isn’t it. Good for her!
(and she’s the one who got such flack for having said George Soros shouldn’t be mentioned… I told everybody she usually has guts and that surprised me… she’s a good Conservative….don’t know WHAT made her suggest we not ‘bring soros into this conversation’)

Maybe soros or his buddies are dangerous. Then you have to wonder how much risk you want to expose yourself to. Like when the punks tried to bust into Tucker Carlson’s house when his family was there. There would have to be some balance of risk vs reward for me to hammer on the evil so openly – especially when the DOJ doesn’t seem to care.. 16 tons and whaddya get. And who the hell is soros to ‘demand that FOX bla bla bla’ ?

I agree with kid and others about do it now. Flush out the rhinos. Although just before I left this morning I thought I saw a headline that Romney said he’d be willing to take the vote, it doesn’t mean he’ll vote for the picK. But very thoughtful question. I’m not ready to leave any second stage thinking to the hordes of dummies in the country today.

It is one AM on Wednesday and I missed my chance to comment. So, I will do it, anyway.

Trump and the Senate should act, now. This is like a football or baseball game in that it is probably wrong to start getting cute by gambling that things will be different or better later. Don’t gamble, do it while you have the advantage.

  18. It does not appear that Ronnie G. Barrett (Barret Firearms) and Amy Coney Barret are closely related, if at all.
One thing in her favor, she seems to support restoration of Constitutional rights for ex-felons.

Ed, That won’t stop the media from associating her with big scary rifles. 🙂
