The Brearley School Letter you may have heard about….

This letter is getting quite some interest…it might be the best letter any of us has read and I DO HOPE the sentiment is echoed across America:

Dear Fellow Brearley Parents,

Our family recently made the decision not to reenroll our daughter at Brearley for the 2021-22 school year. She has been at Brearley for seven years, beginning in kindergarten. In short, we no longer believe that Brearley’s administration and Board of Trustees have any of our children’s best interests at heart. Moreover, we no longer have confidence that our daughter will receive the quality of education necessary to further her development into a critically thinking, responsible, enlightened, and civic minded adult. I write to you, as a fellow parent, to share our reasons for leaving the Brearley community but also to urge you to act before the damage to the school, to its community, and to your own child’s education is irreparable.

It cannot be stated strongly enough that Brearley’s obsession with race must stop. It should be abundantly clear to any thinking parent that Brearley has completely lost its way. The administration and the Board of Trustees have displayed a cowardly and appalling lack of leadership by appeasing an anti-intellectual, illiberal mob, and then allowing the school to be captured by that same mob. What follows are my own personal views on Brearley’s antiracism initiatives, but these are just a handful of the criticisms that I know other parents have expressed.

I object to the view that I should be judged by the color of my skin. I cannot tolerate a school that not only judges my daughter by the color of her skin, but encourages and instructs her to prejudge others by theirs. By viewing every element of education, every aspect of history, and every facet of society through the lens of skin color and race, we are desecrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and utterly violating the movement for which such civil rights leaders believed, fought, and died.

I object to the charge of systemic racism in this country, and at our school. Systemic racism, properly understood, is segregated schools and separate lunch counters. It is the interning of Japanese and the exterminating of Jews. Systemic racism is unequivocally not a small number of isolated incidences over a period of decades. Ask any girl, of any race, if they have ever experienced insults from friends, have ever felt slighted by teachers or have ever suffered the occasional injustice from a school at which they have spent up to 13 years of their life, and you are bound to hear grievances, some petty, some not. We have not had systemic racism against Blacks in this country since the civil rights reforms of the 1960s, a period of more than 50 years. To state otherwise is a flat-out misrepresentation of our country’s history and adds no understanding to any of today’s societal issues. If anything, longstanding and widespread policies such as affirmative action, point in precisely the opposite direction.

I object to a definition of systemic racism, apparently supported by Brearley, that any educational, professional, or societal outcome where Blacks are underrepresented is prima facie evidence of the aforementioned systemic racism, or of white supremacy and oppression. Facile and unsupported beliefs such as these are the polar opposite to the intellectual and scientific truth for which Brearley claims to stand. Furthermore, I call bullshit on Brearley’s oft-stated assertion that the school welcomes and encourages the truly difficult and uncomfortable conversations regarding race and the roots of racial discrepancies.

I object to the idea that Blacks are unable to succeed in this country without aid from government or from whites. Brearley, by adopting critical race theory, is advocating the abhorrent viewpoint that Blacks should forever be regarded as helpless victims, and are incapable of success regardless of their skills, talents, or hard work. What Brearley is teaching our children is precisely the true and correct definition of racism.

I object to mandatory anti-racism training for parents, especially when presented by the rent-seeking charlatans of Pollyanna. These sessions, in both their content and delivery, are so sophomoric and simplistic, so unsophisticated and inane, that I would be embarrassed if they were taught to Brearley kindergarteners. They are an insult to parents and unbecoming of any educational institution, let alone one of Brearley’s caliber.

I object to Brearley’s vacuous, inappropriate, and fanatical use of words such as “equity,” “diversity” and “inclusiveness.” If Brearley’s administration was truly concerned about so-called “equity,” it would be discussing the cessation of admissions preferences for legacies, siblings, and those families with especially deep pockets. If the administration was genuinely serious about “diversity,” it would not insist on the indoctrination of its students, and their families, to a single mindset, most reminiscent of the Chinese Cultural Revolution. Instead, the school would foster an environment of intellectual openness and freedom of thought. And if Brearley really cared about “inclusiveness,” the school would return to the concepts encapsulated in the motto “One Brearley,” instead of teaching the extraordinarily divisive idea that there are only, and always, two groups in this country: victims and oppressors.

l object to Brearley’s advocacy for groups and movements such as Black Lives Matter, a Marxist, anti family, heterophobic, anti-Asian and anti-Semitic organization that neither speaks for the majority of the Black community in this country, nor in any way, shape or form, represents their best interests.

I object to, as we have been told time and time again over the past year, that the school’s first priority is the safety of our children. For goodness sake, Brearley is a school, not a hospital! The number one priority of a school has always been, and always will be, education. Brearley’s misguided priorities exemplify both the safety culture and “cover-your-ass” culture that together have proved so toxic to our society and have so damaged the mental health and resiliency of two generations of children, and counting.

I object to the gutting of the history, civics, and classical literature curriculums. I object to the censorship of books that have been taught for generations because they contain dated language potentially offensive to the thin-skinned and hypersensitive (something that has already happened in my daughter’s 4th grade class). I object to the lowering of standards for the admission of students and for the hiring of teachers. I object to the erosion of rigor in classwork and the escalation of grade inflation. Any parent with eyes open can foresee these inevitabilities should antiracism initiatives be allowed to persist.

We have today in our country, from both political parties, and at all levels of government, the most unwise and unvirtuous leaders in our nation’s history. Schools like Brearley are supposed to be the training grounds for those leaders. Our nation will not survive a generation of leadership even more poorly educated than we have now, nor will we survive a generation of students taught to hate its own country and despise its history.

Lastly, I object, with as strong a sentiment as possible, that Brearley has begun to teach what to think, instead of how to think. I object that the school is now fostering an environment where our daughters, and our daughters’ teachers, are afraid to speak their minds in class for fear of “consequences.” I object that Brearley is trying to usurp the role of parents in teaching morality, and bullying parents to adopt that false morality at home. I object that Brearley is fostering a divisive community where families of different races, which until recently were part of the same community, are now segregated into twoThese are the reasons why we can no longer send our daughter to Brearley.

Over the past several months, I have personally spoken to many Brearley parents as well as parents of children at peer institutions. It is abundantly clear that the majority of parents believe that Brearley’s antiracism policies are misguided, divisive, counterproductive and cancerous. Many believe, as I do, that these policies will ultimately destroy what was until recently, a wonderful educational institution. But as I am sure will come as no surprise to you, given the insidious cancel culture that has of late permeated our society, most parents are too fearful to speak up.

But speak up you must. There is strength in numbers and I assure you, the numbers are there. Contact the administration and the Board of Trustees and demand an end to the destructive and anti-intellectual claptrap known as antiracism. And if changes are not forthcoming then demand new leadership. For the sake of our community, our city, our country and most of all, our children, silence is no longer an option.

Respectfully,

Andrew Gutmann

Thanks for posting this Z. Sadly we are all witnessing an unending parade of this brand of demagoguery in our education system hand in hand with government and corporate America. They are succeeding in creating racism wherever none exists.. All I can say is che imbarazzante didgrazia.
I have taken the liberty to include the address to the entire New York Post article, while hoping you won’t mind.

The crux of it all, the focal issue, is his objection to children’s being taught WHAT to think instead of HOW to think.

His entire argument is a nicely done exposé of the school’s agenda as one of indoctrination substituted for education.

And Jackass Joey plans to make “critical race theory” mandatory in education.

Y’know . . . we were actually doin purty well as a society ’til a few years ago when we elected our first “affirmative-action” potus. Then suddenly blacks were exempt from prosecution for looting, vandalism, murder, drive-by shootings, and attacking law-enforcement personnel.

And “just like that,” white men became responsible for everything bad that’s happened since the earth cooled and oceans formed.

Unless this nonsense gets stopped we are lost as a Republic. It may be too late but I would at least like to see a good faith effort made. Do all those “well heeled” truly want to see all the kiddies turned into little commies? Surly they must know that the “means of production” ultimately means the government takes over their businesses? Maybe not.

I KNOW most of you have at least heard of this but I thought I’d publish it here, too, since it so well jives with Brearley’s letter …BAYSIDER emailed it to me. FOX has been covering it.

Bari Weiss, who left the NY Slimes because she’s waking up to the CRAP, published it…
I told BAY in an email back that it’s interesting that Weiss and Naomi Wolf, two liberal writers/thinkers might be the ONLY really brave people we have trying to straighten out our country; or maybe they’re just more LISTENED TO because they’re not Conservatives.?

    PETER, I don’t mind at all..thanks.
    And YES to your comment!!!

BOCOPRO…good comment and “And “just like that,” white men became responsible for everything bad that’s happened since the earth cooled and oceans formed.”:
Exactly…..Can we WHITES do ANYTHING right? Oh, wait, we founded a pretty good country which one only has to compare to Mexico City or Nairobi to understand how WHITE men knew what they were doing better than most. Pardon me for saying so, but that’s how I feel.
WHAT to think instead of HOW to think………..I agree so heartily….so sad.
And yes, it’s HYSTERICAL what the WH is now doing with WORDS! Really does make me laugh; as if ANYBODY’s going to bow to that?!!! Except the Harvard Yale flunkies running this country for Biden.
Aren’t the commercials HILARIOUS? Yes, 15% of America is Black and 90% of our commercials have Black folks in them. I like several of them, honestly! That Geico commercial with the BlaCk woman cooking and the two Black hipsters our age dancing SO cool in her kitchen always makes me smile! But STOP IT! I’m honestly afraid this ridiculous thing is going to backfire on race relations, making them worse.

By the way, BOCOPRO…how the HECK did this happen? Every company got SO WOKE or was it mandated to TV commercial producers? I really wonder.

BUNKERVILLE, could NOT agree with you more….I desperately wish I could.

MUSTANG, thanks, I need to get to Bunkerville’s more, anyway…….I enjoy it when I go.

The anti-racism school-year calendar from Brearley is stultifying and downright wearisome.

For many years I was a loyal fan of Malkin, mostly because she did thorough research and wrote clear, logical, organization analyses of what she found.

Then a few years ago she just got all full of herself and became a bit of a snot, a performer instead of a researcher, a pessimist instead of an analyst, and although I’d still kinda like to give her a bath, I don’t pay much attention to her columns any more.

And this partic’lar Michelle is an eclectisist with one foot nailed permanently on the right side of the aisle. Very subtle snark, too, not a sledge to the face as Calvin can be.

Bocopro .. excellent link to MOTUS. Thanks.

IMO, corporate America made the leap from industrialism, marketing, sales, and profit to Critical Race Theory via their willingness to bend a knee to Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton’s Rainbow/Push racketeering operation. Now honestly, I don’t understand the thinking that went into the decision to suck up to 15% of the nation’s population while abandoning the majority for no other reason than to avoid the adverse publicity promised by Jackson/Sharpton if they didn’t pay up. Not even a moron (graduate of Columbia, Harvard, Brown) could think that a company can remain solvent if 85% of the population becomes fed up with their race-baiting and, in retribution, boycotts their products. Nevertheless, that’s where we are today. Since black communists detest capitalism and given that Jackson/Sharpton (and others) have dedicated themselves to the destruction of the American Republic — maybe that’s what this is all about. If true, it at least makes sense from their point of view. Left unanswered, though, is why the corporate board room has determined to ruin capitalism, as well. [Insert expletive here].

,MUSTANG: YOu said “I don’t understand the thinking that went into the decision to suck up to 15% of the nation’s population while abandoning the majority”

This is why I have posted many Christmases in the past (Actually, till Trump straightened that out, frankly), I’ve wondered why stores told employees NOT to say MERRY CHRISTMAS. I’ve said “WHY? They’re ticking off something like 75% of America…even non-strong-believers who are raised in Christian homes celebrate CHristmas and BUY CHRISTMAS PRESENTS!…..so what are these stores getting but ticked off Christians because Muslims and (only a very few) Jews don’t like it?” Ridiculous.

YOu mention Jesse Jackson: I’m reminded of when a VERY big Washington DC Conservative lawyer friend told me years ago that the way Jesse Jackson got his money was quieting down, for example, unions at Coca-Cola bottling….The Coke bigwigs would ask Jesse to calm the workers down and he’d get paid BIG TIME. I know this, and he did, because he was IN negotiations like that…and knew other lawyers who had been in them, too.

BOCOPRO….I, too, went off Malkin BIG TIME..you describe well WHY.
I like how Calvin can be … HAHA!!! WHen I lived in Paris, I bought the newspaper for the English crossword puzzle and Calvin and Hobbes……..I can’t believe I can’t remember what it was…every day for 4 years. I’ll think of it!

@Z, if it is a situation where millions of parents don’t know what is being done to their kids brains, maybe things like this could bring about meaningful change someday. It looks like Tucker brought this forward too based on a headline I saw. Regardless, I see the teachers union adjusting and the indoctrination remaining strong. Democrat legislation will make that so or at least very hard to resist. We can hope I’m wrong.
There are lots of smart people out there, the least of which being the 75+++ million who voted DJT in – in a landslide, but I don’t see any of it having any effect which keeps me pessimistic.

@Mustang. Jewish majorly voting Democrat and corporate America declaring white people as domestic terrorists, half of which are masculine toxic but all racist, xphobic, supremacist, etc. I don’t know how that equates to higher earnings and profit but it must somehow, unless all the CEO’s are on vacation and the 20-something defective brain marketing millenials have taken over company policy. Head scratcher. But I did see the Coke CEO start trying to backpeddle.

It’s protection money. And remember who fills the HR departments. HINT: It’s not guys with engineering or banking degrees. So much of this devolves from policies ginned up by barely employable leftists who are saturating HR. And risk management advisors. Are the white middle class males going to go out and burn down their stores? Do I even need to ask the question!

KID, Interestingly to me, Andrew Guttman is a Jew. (the guy who wrote that letter above)….
The 75 million may not have their affects seen but THEY ARE LURKING. Man, I saw Trump interviewed on Hannity last night and couldn’t wait to hear his thoughts after 3 months or so….by 10 minutes, I had to say “oh, SHUT UP!” and turn the channel again, as I’d done the last two years or so; LOVE what he DOES, can’t stand his interrupting Hannity(who I’m also no nut for), his never stopping his train of thought even when another subject’s brought up…he was insufferable. Again.
You’d REALLY think he finally listened to people who couldn’t stand that part of him, but…..
Anyway….those people are still there. As is he. As are the young Black men and women in the Republican freshman class in the Senate, etc. As are Lawrence Jones, Tyrus, Brandon Tatum, Candace Owens, Gianno Caldwell…and MORE. All Black, all young, all really smart Conservatives, some raised in the projects. They’re there and they’re moving. I really believe that….I believe they can turn things around along with that 75 million.

This letter I posted has really gone viral, as has the other link above, (https://bariweiss.substack.com/p/i-refuse-to-stand-by-while-my-students)
    BOy, are they being read.
So far, probably only by Cons because CNN and the networks wouldn’t touch these with a 10′ pole…but I’m thinking good things at least COULD be happening so I remain optimistic.

I heard many Dems are telling McCarthy they’d like to censor Maxine….
i’m seeing liberal Naomi Wolf finally pushed so far Left that she’s balking and appearing on FOX talking about how the Left is eroding our Constitution.
Bari Weiss left the NY Times and publishes letters like those above……..both Jewish Libs….get ready, folks.
THEY are seeing what WE haVE seen. I have a lot of trust in them.

And liberal Dershowitz just said that Maxine Waters is using Klan tactics. HA~!!!

@Bay. Yea, that rings true, and you have to wonder what keeps the media in business. CNN, MSNBC and others way down in viewership.. Then I have to wonder how long lasting boycotts will have an effect. Dupont for example with their PFOA in teflon. Everything thing on Earth can be tested positive for the stuff to some degree. People still buy all their products. Well, lots of them won’t get my nickel regardless of ny effect.

@Z. Jews, yea nothing is all encompassing.

TRUMP. Well, let them have their tweet free communism then ! 🙂 Unavoidable anyway.

Repubs? Naw I’m not biting on any of them doing anything for us. Not investing an ounce of thought into it. Nunes Nunes, he’s out man, if he can’t do it, Cruz can, if he can’t do it Trey Gowdy can, if he can’t do it Rand Paul can… on and on and on. Fool me once…. I’m not biting. I’m ignoring all of it. Much more relaxing.

    Cordially Yours.
