When LEAVE IT TO BEAVER and FATHER KNOWS BEST were on, women wore pajamas and robes in all the night scenes.  Always.  Men, too.   Now we have young girls prancing around in bras and underwear in TV ads and very heavy women doing aerobics in stretchy tight athletic wear to supposedly sell the athletic wear.   As if.

I like to watch ID, or Investigative Discovery, (24/7 of true murder mysteries…it beats watching the news)…….nearly EVERY young person is on drugs.   Yesterday, I saw a really decent, very well dressed older man who happened to be a minister whose son was killed.  The son’s pictures showed a young man with piercings, ripped jeans, torn Tshirt and he had been a drug dealer.   This family wasn’t in an urban city like Chicago, it lives in the tiniest of backwater towns in Mississippi.  Drugs, drugs, drugs, and that’s the new American young person. (Yes, I know plenty who aren’t on drugs but drugs are EVERYWHERE and if there was a little pot during LEAVE IT TO BEAVER or FATHER KNOWS BEST days, that was considered really racy and a really bad thing to do. ) Many of you think marijuana should be legal;  Almost the only people I’ve known who smoked a lot of it got very stupid, and I’m talking bright kids who suddenly were “hey, dude’ing’ me all the time.   You know what I mean.

WHAT’s NEXT?   Walking down the street getting high and our kids so loaded they really will believe math is racist?

Some of the TV shows use shocking language.  The other night, Hannity said someone was an “Ass Hole” which blew my mind; I mean it REALLY stunned me!  It’s one thing for me to be mad enough to tell a friend in my kitchen that someone is…one, but….on TV?   I don’t think TV is the place for it.   You can hear “the F word” sometimes……”it’s on cable” is the excuse  (as if anybody, including kids, watch networks much anymore?) …

WHAT’s NEXT?    Frasier telling Niles “you F-ing A H….what the F did you THINK that patient was going to F’ing tell you?”

You can all write the next paragraphs for this post……different subjects about which you’d ask WHAT’s NEXT? …..How do countries recover from things like this…?   How many are in this shape?  (almost none)

    Well . . . one possibility is this —

Wrote it about 30 years ago for my various classes in technical writing, business writing, advanced writing, and freshman comp:

Here’s what happens when spoken language is translated or phoneticized into written language and users aren’t quite sure of a spelling or a mechanical or grammatical rule so they simply say, “that’s close enough.”

After a while, a language which is standard throughout the entire world begins to experience localized or regional modifications. Ultimately, Latin becomes Spanish, Italian, French, Portuguese, and so on.

The same thing can happen to English. It is only by convention that we all have agreed upon commas, question marks, apostrophes, and other devices as road signs. But the rules are not universal laws of nature, merely standards established by certain groups.

For example, Spanish has slightly different rules for punctuating exclamatory or interrogative sentences than does English. When people fail to learn or simply ignore standardized rules, the result can be a cryptic, mystifying, unintelligible, frustrating, and even dangerously misleading collection of arcane symbols.

Note that virtually all the rules of syntax and mechanics have been suspended here except line and word spacing. Omitting those would make it as indecipherable as Kanji in Kansas.

All part of the descension into the Lord of The Flies era coming up.

Gotta say it bothers me to see memes with writing such as “wen u tryna get you girl.. bla bla bla”..

This isn’t slang. This is so black people don’t have to worry their pretty little heads about the correct use of you, your, you’re and there, their, etc etc.

In 5 words or less this is the black culture washing over America like the tide coming in. Except this tide isn’t going back out. There is nothing about pop culture that I care for. Zero. But it’s here to stay and will only get worse by the minute.

But yea, like some fat black chick in only bra and depends on a commercial. Like we need visual aids to figure out how someone would wear an adult diaper…. One of Thousands of reasons I can no longer watch TV with commercials, meaning I’ll watch commercial free movies if one miraculously happens to be on that will hold my interest. It’s rare. I can list the movies I’ve enjoyed over the last 20 years on my ten fingers.

What happened to Ebonics? Recall when that was the new language for the USA? At the time there were enough with common sense.. no more.

  4. geeez2014 says:

BOCOPRO…our language is certainly going downhill. Fur SHUR.
I thought “Me and my friend” was new, but I hear it on 50’s TV sitcoms, too…always surprises me because it sounds so illiterate to me. I’m no expert in English, nor do I speak perfectly, but that and ME AND HER just drives me crazy.
What about the stuff I mentioned? Think there’s a way to pull back on some of it?

BUNKERVILLE….Ebonics kind of became part of the language of many people.
This morning on FOX, there was yet ANOTHER parent lamenting the Loudoun, VA School Board’s using “language that I’d be fired for at work” in our schools and his problem with critical race theory, etc….Joe Mobley, Black father of almost 4. Articulate, amazing guy. When asked if other parents agreed, he said “100%”
Something good’s happening…….maybe too late, but not too little, apparently. He said they’re voting this board out very soon. No more “Math is racist” for these parents….etc. And really good language, NOT Ebonics.

KID….You always crack me up “Like we need visual aids to figure out how someone would wear an adult diaper!” REALLY!!!! You are so right…. THANKFULLY< I know plenty of Black students who'd never write like that, at leaSt at school, but you're right…PLENTY DO ..Sad.
Try Turner Classic Movies..no commercials and some really REALLY good films ….!!!!
My Brazilian student is back this month….he's a film student now at Grand Cyn University for another year then translates to USC or UCLA because their film schools are so good…He said the same thing you said…no really good films. How SAD ….

  5. kidme37 says:

Z, Unfortunately I don’t like old films outside of a couple I can think off the top – North by Northwest and African Queen. Can’t really think of any others. “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” – Yawn.zzzzzzzz. bunch of people sitting in a room talking. I’d rather eat cat fur. 😉

  6. geeez2014 says:

KID, oh, well!! You’re not alone! But I have turned on friends my age to old black/whites and they keep thanking me, so, TO EACH HIS OWN!

As strong as the Conservatives they were arguing with are, and they’re GOOD, nobody has ever said “Can you explain how Trump botched it?”

I’m not trying to just be RAH RAH TRUMP CAN DO NOTHING WRONG…BELIEVE ME, but on this point, I JUST DON”T GET IT.

Of course, they still say HE BOTCHED THE ECONOMY,. which is so stupid it doesn’t need any debate…. And, if Trump hadn’t done what he’d done, we’d be nowhere NEAR the improvement being seen because of the vaccines, but TRUMP BOTCHED IT??
    Like Fauci DIDN’T?

  7. geeez2014 says:

You can’t make this stuff up, honestly.

  8. Z,
The other night, Hannity said someone was an “Ass Hole” which blew my mind; I mean it REALLY stunned me!

I had the same reaction and now can’t recall to whom Hannity was referring. Perhaps that individual deserved the epithet?

  9. geeez2014 says:

Hi AOW! Oh, yes! I don’t remember who, either, but I REMEMBER thinking “He’s right, but….” HAAAAA!!!!!! Definitely deserved the epithet; it just sounded so WEIRD for someone to say AH like that…!!

  10. MAL says:

Yep! And bedroom scenes never showed queen or king size beds. Not even a double. Even Desi and Lucy slept in twin beds! Boy! How we’ve slid downhill. And the language? I mentioned about a week or so back about a movie we had just seen where 11 and 12 year olds were continually dropping the F-bomb, as well as other similar phrases.

  11. geeez2014 says:

MAL, right on kids saying words like that….really sweet girls at the Christian High School I was associated with would say it! And I realized that they LITERALLY don’t know you shouldn’t. They do NOT KNOW.
In high school, we didn’t say DAMN, that was really bad, remember?

    and yes, only twin beds….

  12. MAL says:

Z, look how the meaning of words have changed. The F-word is only one of many whose meanings have changed. “The Gay Ninetties” would take on an entirely different meaning today, right? How many people know the “F” word were the initials from early English law (Forced Unlawful Carnal Knowledge)?
I remember when I was in Basic Training in 1951 we had a nice foreign kid (can’t remember from where) and one day he asked what the F word meant, and everyone laughed, and someone asked him what HE thought it meant, and he said sexual intercourse, and we all told him he was correct, then he asked why we say “pass the F—ing salt”. We all roared. He was right, of course. Why DO we?

  13. MAL says:

I just realized something. At this time 70 years ago, I was in basic training at Fort Old, Calif.
Time flies when you’re having’ fun!
(Or, as Kermit, the frog, says, “Times fun when you’re having’ flies”.

  14. MAL says:

    Thats FORT, ORD!

  15. geeez2014 says:

MAL; I like FORT OLD!! 🙂

KID KID KID…Taking of Pelham One, Two, Three is on tonight at 8 EST…you’re Mountain Time? Anyway, it’s at 5 PST…and it is SO SO GOOD. Walter Mathau at his absolute best; other terrific character actors. THIS is a really good film and I hope you try it if you haven’t had the pleasure yet. The end is worth the WHOLE THING but there are some terrific lines getting there, too!!

  16. kidme37 says:

Thanks Z. I saw it a little over a week ago. Yes, good movie. I’m Eastern Marxist time. 🙂

  17. geeez2014 says:

BIDEN PREDICTING WORLDWIDE WEAKNESS coming…………why? What does he know?
    Self fulfilling prophecy? BASTARD

  18. kidme37 says:

This is actually “oe Biden is projecting weakness on the world stage,…” meaning he is showing the world how weak we are with biden as frontman.

  19. Baysider says:

Anything not traditionally associated with western civilization’s mores.

Carl Trueman wrote an exceptional book, “The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self: Cultural Amnesia, Expressive Individualism, and the Road to Sexual Revolution” which is high on my wanna read list. (It’s just very long.) He points out what we all know, that human nature may not change. But the specific conditions of the culture we live in shape our desires and sense of self in profound ways. This takes me back to a favorite quote from Milton Friedman. He once noted that “when crisis occurs, the actions that are taken depend on the ideas that are lying around.” Those actions are the answer to your question.

What is lying around that is shaping us? We didn’t just wake up in the 60’s to find ourselves in turmoil. We found a soon-to-be-adult generation that was no longer tethered to the foundations of western civ that wanted to explore anything but western civ. We continue exploring unchartered waters in that crisis now that we are loosened from both the foundations of what reality is and of what works to hold a social structure together.

So … anything that divides us from each other and from our Creator & His rules is what’s next. Murder of born infants. Polygamy. Arrests, fines and or re-education sentences for proclaiming God’s word. Codes of allegiance (racial justice) to deny truth in order to hold your job. Followed by submission to totalitarian pronouncements (men can give birth) to hold your job. Or get your driver’s license. The death of expressive individualism once its havoc has been irrevocably wrought.

  20. Baysider says:

    and medical apartheid.

  21. geeez2014 says:

KID, I just LOVE the end of it….when the guy coughs…and he just looks at him “GOTCHA”! Fun stuff.

BAYSIDER…Actually, I often think of that because the Sixties really DID rather POP UP and SCREW US OVER…..Just look at the rock bands before the Sixties, for example….Short hair, ties, nice slacks….it’s almost funny to watch.
Then the SIXTIES came and OH MAN…………….quite the opposite. Odd, really.
Our kids seemed tethered before that to me, not to you? You are right, SOMETHING allowed them to suddenly FREAK OUT…Kent State, Vietnam……..but we could have survived those things had a narrative started that led those kids SO astray…>WHAT? WHO did that narrative….??

THERE IS SOMETHING TO WHAT SOME OF US THINK ABOUT GOD’S INFLUENCE. I just watched Benjamin Watson on Tucker….Black footballer with 7 kids and a strong Christian.. I didn’t agree with ALL he said because he believes we CAN talk slavery in schools without adding what I BELIEVE needs to be addressed and never is “AGE APPROPRIATE”….Another Dad, Black, was on earlier today talking also against Critical Race Theory….VERY dignified guy “God bless you” he says at the end of the interview…..happens ALL the time…..People who are working for good, trying to kick these idiotic lib shackles off of us VERY often end with “God bless” or “Be blessed”……..
    no accident.

  22. Baysider says:

back to “Can you explain how Trump botched it?” That is a GREAT question. It’s a variation on “what do you mean by that” and “how did you come to that conclusion.” Greg Koukle uses these as foundational tactics in drawing out the guy whose made the assertion without putting yourself in a defensive position.
