The chief danger that confronts the coming century will be religion without the Holy Ghost,
Christianity without Christ, forgiveness without repentance, salvation without regeneration,
politics without God, heaven without hell.
William Booth
“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.”
― William Saroyan
The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of the blessings. The inherent blessing of socialism is the equal sharing of misery. -- Winston Churchill
Ignorance is not an opinion, liberals
I believe in Christianity as I believe the sun has risen; not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else. C. S. Lewis
if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14
THERE WILL BE NO THREATS OF ANY KIND AT THIS BLOG, TO POLITICIANS OR OTHER COMMENTERS. thank you.
Yeah, purty much liberal, but not necessarily a Democrat . . . more of an independent.
As I said a coupla days ago in the “progressives” thread, I wanted to “fix” inequities and make things better for the disadvantaged and repressed.
And I STILL think Truman was committed to the Constitution and the rule of law. Today, of course, he’d be considered an old fudd politically and a stick in the mud fiscally; he’d never get off the base line in a nominee race.
Today I’ve adopted the Groucho Marx philosophy (he’d never want to join a club that would have him as a member) and am convinced that anyone who deliberately seeks and willingly accepts nomination for potus is thereby automatically rendered ineligible for the job, ethically, morally, and mentally.

Not political at all.
I paid zero attention to politics until into my mid 40’s or so. Nixon came and went with nary a glance from me. The hippies paid a lot of attention to all that stuff but not me.
Then as I’m sitting in a Mexican restaurant for lunch in Tempe AZ, bubba clinton was on the TV over the Monica thing. Thought it was pretty funny watching him squiggle around over it.
Then I watched clinton pay zero attention to serious attacks on the USA. WTC in 93, USS Cole later on. TWA800 has a lot of potential to have been an attack.
Then 9/11 happens and I’m driving home from work literally literally screaming in my car “Do Your Job You Son of a Bitch” to Bush. I saw potential for 9/11 to be handled as another “law enforcement” situation like clinton did. “We’ll bring these[dead] perpetrators to justice!” I supposed the government might say.
Well, Bush didn’t treat it like a crime but didn’t do anything useful either.
Then America votes in a radical moslem empty suit flim flam man who hates America a mere 7 years after 9/11 and at this point I think “F it, there is no chance this country of imbeciles is ever going to do anything that makes any sense”.
Still not political. Never saw politics or government as a solution to anything or anything I want to be engaged in. Still don’t. See government as a huge PITA that I try to avoid having it in my face, or taking my money. The federal government’s activities should be confined to interstate highways and National defense of which they do a piss poor job and Nothing respectively. The terms liberal, left, right, and conservative, have, imo, been bastardized beyond comprehension.
I would describe myself as liberal in the libertarian sense. Do what you want as long as no one else gets hurt.
While we’re on it. Sowell, Buckley, Prager, Ben Franklin, Samuel Clemens, Victor Davis Hanson, and the rest of the people who do nothing visibly but spout pure intelligence and patriotism for America have not had any affect on people in America generally speaking or America would be in much better shape since the 1960’s instead of being this hellhole of lawlessness and nonsense we find ourselves floating around in like flotsam and jetsam on the surface of an ocean we have no control over with few neighbors floating nearby who even know where they are let alone the situation we are in.
Nope, not political at all.
Insert profanity where appropriate.

The first election I was eligible to vote was in 1980 when I proudly cast my vote for none other than the great Ronaldus Maximus (that’s Ronald Reagan to the Rush uninitiated). I have done some things in my life that I’m not proud of, but voting for a Democrat at any time in my life is not one of them lol.

BOCOPRO….I’m sorry so many of my readers feel like that… very hopeless, like how you described any candidate for president. Is there someone you’d say is at least not QUITE as “ineligible” than what you suggested above!?
I do remember you said you’d been more Left as a young person; I believe Truman was ethical, moral, and probably smart, too.
KID…right “not political at all” 🙂
I do agree with that wonderful list of historical figures…..not enough are paying attention to them.
JERRY…not surprised!!
FJ…QUITE surprised, frankly!!! 🙂
MUSTANG: Me, too. NEVER voted for a Democrat unless I didn’t know some little judge candidate was a Dem and might have been recommended regardless.
I’d bet my Dad never voted Democrat…I know that, if he didn’t, Mom didn’t..and I believe only my #2 sister out of the 5 of us is crazy for liberal Democrats. Proudest of her signed copy of an Obama book, and Michelle’s, I think? We don’t talk politics 🙂 I love her but, as very smart as she is, that Berkeley doctorate prepared her for her amazing career but not to put her grandchildren’s future first.

No, ‘cuz to acquire the name recognition and machine funding, candidates have been in politics for several years in almost all cases (except Trump, of course), which means they’re contaminated with the greed, self-importance, lust for power, hubris, ignorance, arrogance, condescension, profligacy, and cluelessness of professional parasites.
The closest I could come would be a retired MgySgt or former enlisted MarCorps major, a retired Navy MCPO or LDO LCdr, or a retired Army Command Sergeant Major or former enlisted combat veteran major, gender either certified male or female, pronouns customary.
There’s an odd chance that somewhere is a small-town mayor or city manager with the skills and chops to do the job who hasn’t yet been corrupted by power, wealth, and/or fame, but I betcha nobody in that category would want the job.
I can think of NO SCENARIO in which I would accept the role of potus, veep, or cabinet member. And as one on his 82nd trip around the sun, I’m qualified to say that nobody over 72 should either.

BOCOPRO.. I think it’s the “machine funding,” definitely……When Big Business backs you, you need to jump when they say to.
Even my own relative’s company gave a TON of dough to a California governor candidate, Deukmejian, who may have been the last honest politician in America, definitely in California….a family friend of ours, and known for integrity by both sides. My relative asked for a little help for his company and didn’t get it …money donation or none.
Deukmejian was paid a visit by Elizabeth Taylor and others of her fame, without an appointment…His secretary (coincidentally, the sister of my best friend today) told him Miss Taylor was there to see him…he asked if they had an appointment, they didn’t, and she was shown the door…OUT 🙂
He was QUITE a guy…….a very rare, wonderful breed.
By the way, he was in Chicago on business when my dad died…he called my mother and asked the time and day of the service, and told her he’d be there….and he was. Dad was a building contractor, so there were many contractor subs there, respectful enough to stay in the Narthex of the church with their work belts on, having left job sites to be there, etc……and an ex governor inside. Described my Dad perfectly.

Not at all politically but if I could go back and make some different decisions and know God than as I do now I would. Back then I thought I’d you were a good person you would go to Heaven, lol. So naive. Thank God Jesus is my Lord and Savior! Nothing better in the world could be offered to me than Jesus, the Lord of all Lords.

LAYLA, I admire your openness about the faith……It’s a mystery one really has to pursue to receive…and, a BIG part for ME, anyway, is LETTING GO OF HOPING TO UNDERSTAND IT ALL….it was only THEN my faith really grew rather miraculously……And, for me, the stories of countless changed lives really resonates BIG TIME.

I get the impression you think I am kidding when I say I’m not political. I’m not kidding. I pay attention because I pay attention to anything that can cause me harm. Causing me harm is the only potential for the federal government. I don’t believe a single thing ‘good’ can come from the feds to me or any American citizen. Illegals maybe.
As far as paying attention, I saw Denzel Washington say in a short interview “You can’t legislate love”. True dat. You also can’t force curiosity, patriotism, or intelligence. We have way too many imbeciles in this country to expect the people to turn things around, even if voting was on the up and up, and politicians are Last on that list for making anything better for America and this gets worse by the minute.

KID, exactly right….I’ve seen you for too many years on blogs, including your posts having been more political in the past, to think you’re not at all political……we even email about it….
I absolutely know you’re not IN politics and you don’t LIKE politics, but as you infer, politics DO play a part in our lives, and I think you keep up well in order to make sure you plan in advance in hopes you won’t be ‘harmed’!!
Denzel’s quote is like a GOLDEN RULE for Conservatives….. the Left believes we can LEGISLATE EVERYTHING…therefore, we have laws for everything, An example is that we remove ALL playground equipment if ONE KID got hurt because his drunk father pushed him too fast on the swing, etc etc. GOT TO MAKE A LAW….got to legislate safety. I ‘ve spoken about that a LOT here….
The LEFT believes young kids not keeping score in school games is LOVING because nobody gets feelings hurt..EVERYBODY GETS A TROPHY!..Conservatives believe hurt feelings should be softened by a parent, thereby learning to COPE, that that it helps us grow up, knowing life isn’t easy…nobody really CAN legislate love…
Do I make sense? Not sure I’m writing it as articulately as I feel it.
But you’re right….although I believe/SEE that the gas prices, food shortages, etc., ARE definitely waking people up to a curiosity they may not have had to have before this Biden nightmare, ‘Why is this happening? I thought Biden was going to be good~ How is PUTIN affecting OUR gas prices? Why didn’t they DO something about the formula when they knew about it?” hearing that a lot , and not from conservatives..
not so fast.

Let me say, that Officially Speaking, the federal government would be seen and not heard. We couldn’t be further away from that mandate, or principle if you prefer, than we are now.
Anything I post political, I’m either blowing off a little steam or preferrably, tossing out some humor.
You make perfect sense as far as legislating too much. A disease propagated by equal parts politicians and lawyers. You get down to it, lawyers have destroyed every facet of our lives. There is nothing that lawyers haven’t damaged.
People waking up? People woke up when Carter fouled everything up and voted for Reagan. Eight years of Reagan’s advances completely erased and replaced by all this crap everyone has to deal with since.
Why would that change? We may get a small break of uselessness from the repubs only to have these felonious criminal communists back in control in 4 or 8 years. Not to mention the election systems are completely destroyed in enough places that Rip Van Winkles won’t matter anyhow.

I’m so old the voting age was still 21 for me. I did vote every time I was able to, but its so far back I have trouble even remembering the candidates! Although our family was pro-FDR and Truman, we switched some time after that because we didn’t vote for J.F.K. or Lyndon Johnson.
Somewhere along the line, the Democratic Party was hijacked and has never been the same, something more and more folks are beginning to realize. The Dems espouse Socialism.
It isn’t the first time it has been attempted in out country. I believe I mentioned once before a couple of years back about the popularity of Technocracy. It gained a lot of ground during the depression right up till Pearl Harbor was bombed and WW ll started. It no longer was attractive because everyone went back to work due to all the defense jobs created by the war.

KID…I’m sorry to say I see your points about our country and I STILL feel like there’s a shred of hope……obviously, I’d feel a HELL of a bigger shred were Trump still in office.
I love our history, I do NOT believe EVERYTHING WAS CRAP ALWAYS, as some do here…I just know that nothing is perfect and, compared to other countries, we’ve been very close. We all have to understand people are HUMAN.
You mention Carter jerks finally waking up and voting for Reagan….THIS IS THE DAMNED KIND OF THING REPUBLICANS NEED TO BE SAYING….REMINDING PEOPLE…
OH, I don’t mean to sound like some egomaniac who thinks I’VE GOT ALL IT TAKES TO WIN OVER THIS COUNTRY, but I’d about do ANYTHING ANYTHING to write ONE BIG SPEECH FOR TRUMP. Honestly……….TOUGH AS NAILS, CARING, HONEST, FULL OF REAL HISTORY, FULL OF WHAT THE HELL BIDEN’S DOING SO SO SO WRONG AND WHY TRUMP WOULD DO IT DIFFERENTLY AND HOW>………
I’d about give ANYTHING. The only person I ‘know’ is a person extremely close to Pence, who actually did see one of my speeches (we have a mutual friend, I don’t really know him but he knows of me!!!)……….and, of course, knowing a Pence person doesn’t work anymore with Trump! OR PENCE!
CHECK THIS OUT, EVERYBODY: Another BUSINESS INSIDER rubbish negative article…:
https://www.cnbc.com/2022/05/24/trumps-picks-in-tuesdays-gop-primaries-spent-over-400000-at-mar-a-lago.html
WHAT rubbish….do they expect the campaigns to stay at Holiday Inns? Do they expect Trump to treat them? Does the writer even know how many work on those campaigns and travel with candidates, how much a fundraiser costs?
This article isn’t the worst but it’s TYPICAL.
MAL: JFK sounds like a Republican today!! Ya, it was 21 when I could finally vote, too…and should be again today, except for the valid argument that our dear boys and girls die in the military at 18 or 19, so they should be able to have a VOTE.

KID…then he won’t be reelected..simple. And it would have been SOOOO EASY.
DeSantis has everything he has and civility and dignity.
And I’ve seen times Trump was WONDERFUL….even on stage, I could tell something had really touched his heart. I know you don’t give a damn about that stuff, but a lot of people do…. I also know he’s given large amounts of cash to people in private….people he didn’t know but was told about at a function, etc…slipped them a few thousand “don’t say anything.,..”
Ya, he has it in him, but that ego thing gets in the way.
I assume you realize I’m never going to stop believing this 🙂 Must change. America’s worth it…we need him.

Okey Doke Z. Not that I have a greater than negative 1000 expectation that anything ‘Better” will happen in regard to America’s activities here and abroad. Not in the lifetimes of anyone alive right now anyway. So, I don’t sweat it. Every man for themself as it has always been really anyway.
Best t you and yours and others I know. Life can still be good. I think. The feds have really lowered the bar and I sometimes wonder how low they can go.
