We all know about the Texas school shooting by now, but:

Something has occurred to me when pondering  yet another hideous school shooting:

Of course, the first thing many think about is “TOO MANY GUNS!”  And, let’s face it, there ARE too many guns.   But most of us understand that guns don’t shoot themselves.  Obviously, if the guns weren’t there, they wouldn’t be shot, but killers would find some way to hurt others, in my humble opinion.  An argument might be that we very, very rarely hear about these killings in Europe, and most Europeans do not have guns.  But Swiss military, at least, take their guns home after they leave the military and we don’t hear a lot there.

HERE is my thinking:

1, Many of the shooter/killers have been red flagged in the past.  They’ve had histories of being ‘weird’, of being recluses even in school, some have actually threatened to kill but teachers or shrinks have talked with them and they’ve been deemed ‘just weird’, or they’ve scared their own families but families kept silent.

I believe a lot of that is due to the Left’s fear of EVER actually labeling someone as troubled, a possible killer.   God forbid someone is labeled unfairly,  or absolutely wrongly identified when they’re really just weird! ……..SO, these people get a pass often to the horrible outcomes we experience so much in America.

2. There have been discussions of armed guards at schools or other large facilities with a lot of people.   The Left doesn’t approve of that because people might feel uptight seeing someone with a GUN around them.    It might OFFEND SOMEBODY! (we need to start offending again).  The gun has been demonized to always mean something bad instead of the fact that the gun can kill a mass murderer and save many lives in the doing.

How do we retrain those silly enough to look at every gun as a weapon for killing innocents (possibly coming from the anti-gun, anti-military thing the Left loves to harangue about)?

HOW DO YOU THINK WE CAN AT LEAST HELP KEEP THESE INCIDENTS DOWN?

OR DO YOU THINK IT’S POSSIBLE AT ALL?

Please pray for the dead, pray particularly for their families……..there’s not much worse than this.

In my country-boy opinion, you’ve offered a partial but very reasonable solution to the problem:

“(we need to start offending again)”

Without pontificating on the abject silliness of a society’s allowing 2 or 3 percent of its population to dictate pronouns, terminology, definitions, and behavior in general to the rest of us, just lemme say this about rapists, murderers, arsonists, and terrorists . . . .

Cruel and unusual crimes deserve cruel and unusual punishment. The point is, of course, that punishment should be relevant and appropriate to the offense; it shouldn’t be greater than the crime, nor should it be lesser, but equal.

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus says, “Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth” (Matthew 5:38). Yes . . . yes . . . I know, he also says if someone slaps you on the cheek, turn to him the other.

But the current prosecutorial fad of releasing evil-doers with minimum or no bail, repeatedly, and providing food/shelter/health care/and endless appeals to convicted murderers . . . just ain’t cuttin it. And Miranda/Tempia has purty much emasculated jurisprudence.

Public shaming and humiliation for repeat minor offenses such as stalking, harassing, window-peeking, vote muling, DWI, public indecency, cruelty to animals. Why not?

And as for the worst offenders – the rapists, arsonists, identity thiefs, child molesters, drug pushers, terrorists, murderers – first confiscate all monies and valuables they have for distribution to the survivors and families of the victims.

Then when all possible recompense is complete, allow the survivors and/or victims first opportunity to mete out appropriate justice, including horrible lingering death, to the offender.

If by chance no survivors or family are available or willing to carry out fitting retribution, the local city or state government then assumes the role of justice administrator; for example, castration for non-violent rapists or exile for identity thieves.

We are in no danger whatever of running out of misbehaving naked primates, so thinning the herd from time to time will not imperil the species. Get rid of the burrs under the collective saddle. Excise the malignant growths. Toss out the rotten potato infecting the bin.

Need a volunteer to throw the switch? Look me up; I have plenty of free time.

Under our system, one cannot be charged with a criminal act unless or until they’ve committed a criminal act. We can, under certain circumstances, arrest someone who is mentally ill and dangerous to themselves, or others, but that too is a slippery slope. We have laws that keep mentally deficient persons from buying firearms. We have laws against such persons possessing firearms. But we do not have the mechanism for making sure that mentally off-balance Salvatore doesn’t take a firearm from his grandmother’s chest of drawers and used it against anyone. This may be the argument of the anti-gun mob. If this is what happened, then Salvatore’s grandmother has already paid the price for her stupidity.

But … here’s what else is stupid. Texas (and federal) law makes school campuses “gun-free zones,” which means that no one may take a gun onto a school campus. Salvatore did exactly that, and no one at the school could stop him. They were not allowed to carry a gun that might have been used to stop Salvatore from slaughtering these innocent children. So now ask, how did “gun-free” save anyone?

An armed teacher might have — even if Salvatore had gone to school with a machete or kitchen knife, instead of a firearm.

Guns are not the issue. Guns do not kill. PEOPLE DO! The problem is people not guns. There should be the same security system in our schools as when you go to traffic court or any courthouse as our children must become more valuable than money or politicizing the gun control issue. It is kit controlling guns. It is controlling the people who get them. People KILL-blame the people not the guns.

An old post of mine started to get hits again…. Just for perspective. There were eight mass shootings under Clinton, eight under Bush, and 24 under Obama.

The tradition of presidential silence in the wake of most mass shootings came to an end in the 1990s during the Clinton administration.

President Clinton did not weigh in on every one of the eight mass shootings during his tenure,

In 1992 an Elizabeth, NJ veteran teacher of 30 years at Elizabeth High School had enough and despite pending legal proceedings resigned and moved to Florida. What would precipitate the move on her part you may ask? She along with the Elizabeth BOE and the city of Elizabeth were all named in a lawsuit brought forward by a mother (Hispanic if you’re wondering) whose son brought a machete to the high school this in the days before metal detectors and armed guards in our public schools. With the machete taken away by the teacher and her son suspended mommy hired legal council to sue the offending parties named in the suit. Nothing new under the sun.

We have to rid ourselves of this notion that we can produce a bubble society within which people are protected from every possible eventuality. So, a few years ago, a young man was walking down the street when he was suddenly attacked by an African wielding a machete … and the African proceeded to decapitate the young man right there on the street. And then there was an incident a few years ago in NC when someone driving a car stomped on the gas pedal and ended up killing one and injuring several more. How does one protect against every possibility of whack-job walking our streets? Shall we develop technology that prevents a mentally stressed husband, who had a fight with his wife in the morning before going to work, from starting his forklift because he might hurt someone with it? What we could do is cut back on the number of incidents involving social stupidity.

Shall we lock up everyone who has mental issues? We ALL have mental issues. Shall we drug anyone who has stress in their lives? We ALL have stress in our lives. Shall we remove all guns from the USA? Well, that doesn’t work. Our large city gangs are all carrying MP-5s. How did they get those weapons? Not from the local gun store, I can tell you that … and not in LA, Chicago, Baltimore, or Detroit. So where did they come from? Some gangs even have hand grenades. We should stop listening to leftist morons. We cannot protect everyone from everything – nor should we try. Preventing every single eventuality is not a free society.

I grieve for those children and their parents. But when we have a society that refuses to put Salvadore in a ward where he belongs … because Salvadore has civil rights, then society needs to shut the hell up whenever Salvadore goes off the deep end. My bet is that Salvadore was one of those Ritalin kids no one wants to talk about — and THAT is an epidemic everyone ignores.

There are 3 main problems here. In order:

    1. Gun free zones invite murder.
Sorry for longer story but important I think. Back during the ‘financial crisis’ of 2008, a local school district- Lakota schools, consisting of 6 physical schools, terminated 90 – count em NINETY administrators, and 100 teachers and called it good. Now honestly what did any of those 90 ‘administrators’ do beside bring the friggin donuts. If a school can afford to pay 90 admins and 100 teachers that they Don’t need, they can pay security people.
People would be offended? Bullshit. False argument by the dems who Love when stuff like this happens. It helps them with their gun confiscation agenda.
Get rid of the damn gun free zones.
Plano Texas has more guns per capita than probably any place in the US. Murder rate of 0.4 per 100,000 – lowest on the planet.

    2. Single mothers. Seriously. Most single mother households have zero ability to raise boys. Adam Lanza, sandy hook, single mother, this kid – sounds like he lived with his grandmother. I recall others similar. Women can’t raise boys, Especially Troubled boys, and the women are out of the house working beside. (David Blaine (magician) raised by single mother. Wonderful human being, one of the best on the panet if you get to know him. Not the norm unfortunately.) The kids I knew growing up who were and are whackjobs had single mothers Every single one. And every single one who was in a single mother household was a whackjob. Every single one. Child rearing and raising has to be done a certain way. And this was in the 50’s and 60’s. Not this FUBAR’d child rearing environment we have today. It doesn’t work. It cannot be made to work. You can’t drill a hole in a boat and send it out on the water.

    3. Kids are being raised to be seriously screwed up. You know what I’m talking about. No one loses, No one can be offended. etc. Few kids can handle real life anymore. Someone gets offended or bullied on social media, they go shoot up a school. Fact. Plus they’re given drugs like glasses of water. Riddilin, Adderall, anti-psychotic drugs. These are real and serious problems and the result is you don’t get a society full of well balanced people able to handle real life and it’s been going on for a good while.

You can’t keep the environment we have and fix it. It is not fixable. The only thing you can do is Deal with it. Start by getting rid of the gun free zones and if a bunch of donut hauling assholes lose their jobs to pay for it, a double win.

Other countries without guns don’t have these problems? It is because they also don’t have the kind of people we have running around here in the USA. Not a single black person in Russia for example. No border crossers from Honduras either. Not a single person like you find in S. Chicago will you find in any other country in Europe. It’s the People Z.

To Mustang’s point about guns. Most mass shootings are done with either illegal guns, magazine capacities or illegally acquired guns. “Gun control” is absolutely positively useless in these cases.

PS – Once again, only one side of the ledger is discussed by the politico and media, That being the guns involved in killing people. WHat about the number of guns and guns involved in Saving people. WAY more, WAY more than those in killing people, and most gun deaths are form suicide so subtract that number right off the top.

In Texas, there is a process for school districts to apply to the Department of Public Safety and put into place a system for teachers and faculty to be armed. Sadly, very few ISDs take advantage of this program. Mostly it is implemented in deep-red areas. Santa Fe (literally the town next door to me in Texas) implemented it the school year following the deadly shooting at the High School and the kids and staff are far safer for it.

It is interesting to note, that removing guns from other countries has not increased the safety of their citizens. In some cases, it hasn’t truly reduced the per capita numbers of gun violence. The thing about criminals – or evil people intent on evil – is that they don’t care what is legal. If laws could protect us, heinous crimes would not happen.

AND YES YES YES! What if SHOOTING AT A SCHOOL IMMEDIATELY MET WITH THE DEATH SENTENCE? MAYBE there’d be less of those? TOUGHER SENTENCING.
I think this killer must have been a depraved monster, at least during that shooting spree, but we not only need to teach HIM a lesson but show others “That doesn’t work….you’ll be killed if you do anything like that guy did”

MUSTANG says exactly what I’ve been saying for years….and particularly recently on my ‘SHIT HAPPENS” post……”We cannot protect everyone from everything – nor should we try. Preventing every single eventuality is not a free society” AMEN.

We CANNOT fix everything, we CANNOT protect everyone from everything….As the left likes to feel they have the edge because they TRY, what they’re TRYING to do is weaken our society with that ridiculous notion of protecting all, stopping all evil, etc.

Obviously, that is NOT to say we shouldn’t do all we can to protect people! It’s just that some horrible things ARE going to happen………
Who really CAN foretell that some punk 18 year old will snuff out the lives of 19 children and two adults (and maybe a third adult if his grandmother passes!)?

BUT, as I said in my post, armed guards “offend,” and can’t even BE on campus per TX law!!…and bringing in a sick puppy who’s made death threats on line or in person isn’t “NICE” and could harm that person. I’m okay with that….he deserves help! We must cure ourselves of that “slippery slope” of not being able to arrest people who haven’t actually done something IF they’ve shown to be violent or a danger to others, or themselves.

    HOW DO WE DO THAT?

The argument that it has discouraged invasions by foreign countries in the past because they feared an armed citizenry.is somewhat moot as we can’t prove that for sure. And we all realize any type of confiscation at this point wouldn’t work, so like it or not, we’re stuck with it.

Mustang – right about gun-free zones. I mentioned elsewhere that the Colorado theater killer searched for one that did not allow guns. They’re not stupid! One school shooting years ago was stopped by a vice principal who ran to his car which was parked just beyond the 1,000 feet distance from the school required by federal law because he had a firearm there. He was still the first on the scene with a firearm – well before the sheriff. He could have saved more had he not had to run nearly half a mile to respond.

I don’t think there are ‘too many’ guns just as there aren’t too many cars. Depends how they’re used.

You make good points, Z. We cannot protect everyone from everything. The last 2 years are more evidence of that. And also evidence that many don’t learn. As Mustang said, “when we have a society that refuses to put Salvadore in a ward where he belongs … [we] need to shut the hell up whenever Salvadore goes off the deep end.” How do we re-train? Being smacked in the face with reality will help those closer to a ‘tragic’ view of life and harden others who expect safe perfection from life.

Not too long ago U.S. deaths by firearm statistics were compared with the rest of the western world. With a slight twist. They are higher per capita. Until inner city murders by black gangs are set aside. THAT is what makes for such a high U.S. death-by-gun rate. That seems to be the biggest difference between here and “there.”

Poor grandmother. So many grandmothers who are more or less forced to step up, and do. I know one made a magnificent young man out of her criminal son’s son. And still pray for young Dylan who was forced to face the most tragic view of life so early.

    KID, I’m sure you’re right.

By the way, what’s an air-firearm? Some guy from the UK was spouting about how low shootings are (almost 0) in the UK, so I checked around….he’s mostly right, which shocked me, since they got much tighter gun laws a few years back. But they have AIR FIREARMS? I googled a bit…but is that literally shooting AIR?? I think they’re illegal :-)!!!

I’ve never heard the term air firearm. I have heard air rifle which is a rifle or pistol that takes a CO2 compressed air capsule and shoots BB’s. I’ve been shot with those. Won’t kill ya but do sting pretty good.

U shootings are down? Machetes and knife attacks way up ! Years ago a retired Chicago cop convinced me I’d much rather be shot than stabbed.

Ya, bad guys in the UK carry air firearms!??

    I’d never known this…..

EVERYBODY: I forgot to mention something completely OFF TOPIC:

Mayor Eric Adams of NYC was taking credit yesterday, hugely complimenting the NYPD for ‘getting this guy” (the guy who shot the fellow on his way to Brunch Sunday on the subway)….But the story that followed was how THE GUY TURNED HIMSELF IN WITH THE HELP OF A PASTOR WHO WAS DRIVING A ROLLS ROYCE!
    They didn’t GET THE GUY!

I think Eric Adams might be THE biggest disappointment EVER…..Even I had some high hopes for him after DeBlasio………….wrong.

Not going to do any inet research but my guess is that moslem vermin have firearms. Like they’d respect anyone’ laws. The two vermin kids in the San Bernardino shooting had illegal assault rifles (for California). Why anyone thinks laws are going to improve situations like this is beyond me.

Yes, I’d rather be shot than stabbed. Knives can cause some real havoc with internal organs.

KID, probably true about knives/internal organs…..I’d have thought the blast of a gun doesn’t help, either, but some bullets go right through….no big deal.

I just heard a guy on Tucker say that there are more attacks with HAMMERS than RIFLES!! Yikes!! THAT would hurt 🙂

    ALSO: OFF TOPIC GOOD NEWS:

    My sis went to her granddaughter’s assembly at school this morning…. She said they opened with the Principal saying “Before we start, let’s have a moment of silence for the children of the world”, which is SO much better than mentioning the terrible shootings in TX and scaring little kids, and of course, is what she’d meant….that showed class to me;
BETTER NEWS, is my sis was excited because they said the PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE and sang THE NATIONAL ANTHEM!!
    In PUBLIC school………….hurrah!!

MAL…I thought it showed such caring and such CLASS….what 7 yr old needs to even know about that awful shooting, right? And then to add the Pledge AND the Anthem! My sis was THRILLED! 🙂
