TARGET

THIS is one of the best articles I’ve read in a long time, particularly on the transgender/bathroom situation.

Take a look and send it around… it’s worth it.

Because we are falling apart.

Would you boycott Target or other stores doing this?

  1. Cogent article.
We long ago avoided Target (War on Christmas, lack of support for vets, now this.)
If I were an investor, I’d be wary of investing in companies that make decisions based on bathroom preferences.
But they’ve picked a side, one opposite mine, in the Culture War.
Pretending something is true does not make it so.

My wife and I work almost directly across from our local Target, where various sundries (my work snacks) have been purchased these last few years. Not anymore. In fact, when I need to use the restroom (several times a day because of the coffee intake) I plan to run across the street and relieve on the side of their store.

I wouldn’t shop there simply because they’ve been hacked twice. But I would for this reason also. I wouldn’t doubt that like many other entities that have sided with the LGBT, they do business in countries where homosexuality is a criminal offense. Then they want to preach to Americans. They can all shove that.

These kinds of efforts appear regularly on the left and the right. They rarely have much to do with the “argument” being presented, in this case, rest rooms. But the hook is always carefully chosen to elicit strong emotional response. What could be worse than the possibility of little girls being groped or spied upon at the department store?

Target is one of the three major retailers in the US. It is in rocky shape due in part to a failed effort to expand into Canada. Their underlying business model (and technology) need updating, according to pestle analysis and others. If this “grass roots” (cough cough) effort is even partly successful, it could force the company under. Who would benefit then?

This is really about market share and corporate warfare. Talk to Christians who live in areas where Walmart is the only option. Losing Target would not be a good thing.

Most boycotts are ineffective in the long run, and even when they ARE effective, they often hurt individuals who had nothing whatever to do with the policy triggering the boycott in the first place.

Essentially they are dumb bombs, roadside IEDs which can go off at the wrongest time and blow up some innocent passerby. Now if boycotts could be focused and guided like a cruise missile, I’d say “Go for it!” but the truth is, that’s almost never practical.

In order to hurt a CEO or BOD through a boycott, you gotta punish a lotta clerks and warehouse workers and maintenance guys and bookkeepers who have no say in company policy. Usually the only people who profit from things like that are the lawyers.

Ed, I think that’s right. I believe Target always makes these choices and it’s worth noting for those who feel it’s against their beliefs enough not to want to spend money there.

    jerry….you crack me UP!

    Kid, all good points…..

Alec, I think young girls worrying about their safety is a substantial concern; obviously, it’s far worse if something happens, which I believe is a remote chance. I’d rather they come first in this situation, however. Always have, always will. Their safety and a child feeling trustful are things we must strive for.
Maybe, considering Target’s had more than its share of problems, they might want to rethink their business model.
I don’t seriously think Target’s business is going to suffer for good people seeing just another bad choice by Target, but if it doesn’t close their business (and it won’t…at least not yet), perhaps their being more careful, wiser, and considering all demographics might help their business?

Bocopro; I don’t think they’re practical because most people won’t do it.
I do, however, feel it’s important to point out those not putting our children first, or our credit cards first (hacking), or many other things Target’s known for.

I’m ready to carry a whistle around my neck and boycott the confused/perps doing this. By the way, a college in Canada that just started up this nonsense in the gym, I believe, stopped it after one month and 2 incidents reported of men pushing cell phone cameras over stall walls.

The article was way too long, and I stopped about half-way. I still got the message, or most of it.

I like Target. Not only do we have a Target within one mile of our house, but it is a good thing for property values. Like bocopro, I don’t think the boycott will make any difference in the long run. In Georgia Target would be well advised to back-down on their new policy.

As I advised on my Facebook page to family and friends, it is important to understand some things. First, if you biologically possess the family jewels, or a Johnson, then you need to use the Men’s room. If you are absent said jewels or Johnson, then the Women’s room is for you. If you are confused any available law enforcement officer will help you make that decision.

As a man I reserve the right to use the Woman’s room in various convenience stores, gas stations, and truck stops if I find the Men’s room occupied, dirty, or smelly. So, there. I have spoken.

Baysider….thanks for that information; maybe sanity will prevail!

Bob, I agree…use the men’s room, whether you’re in a dress or not; no man’s going to feel threatened by THAT, RIGHT? Oh, wait a minute; maybe that transgender person will feel uptight or even be teased…..Well, better that adult than the little girl in the bathroom next door, right?

Imp: is that right? WOW. that’s what I’d call suffering..
People don’t like to hear that their info might have been hacked because of Target…they don’t like feeling insecure shopping somewhere, and they don’t like feeling unsafe shopping somewhere.
I guess you put that all together and you have a bad future.

I’m hoping Target gets a grip because I know SO many people who shop there; I’ve shopped there from time to time and it has good prices, etc.

I’m with Alec on this; We don’t WANT big American companies to fail, that is FOR SURE.
But they have to come half way.

The greater Pensacola area has at least 6 Wal-Mart Supercenters that I know of, and possibly another store or two not considered “super.”

My wife avoids 4 of those supercenters as she would a cholera-infested swamp or a terrorist training camp. When our daughters or grandkritters are in town and she can’t find them what they need at the Navy Exchange or Sam’s, she generally goes to Target.

She is a staunch conservative on most matters (as are all our kids), but otherwise apolitical in terms of voting for a party or candidate, all of whom she considers unscrupulous by nature and corrupt by habit.

When she “boycotts” a place, it’s generally ’cause of its appearance or its lack of cleanliness or the attitudes of its staff. She refuses to go to one Wal-Mart because of reported vandalism to cars in the parking lot as well as rapes and gang violence. Can’t say I blame her.

The Target store she goes to is several miles away and out in the boonies in “redneck” country. She feels safer there than in the urban centers . . . says the clerks and customers are more helpful and friendly.

I just determine who has what I need, go there, buy it, and leave . . . don’t care if the workers are black, Asian, Chicano, or whatever. Best time to shop at Wal-Mart is around 0500. Plenty of parking near the door and the rentacop at the entrance isn’t distracted by bums and urchins. Bread’s still warm, too.

I buy most everything we need from Amazon beside clothes, food, and bullets. I even buy my clothes and shoes on line. It’s delivered to my workplace and I haul it home form there.
I get to where I’m feeling fat, I go to WalMart for a pick me up.

Laughed aloud at “feeling fat…I go to WalMart for a pick me up!”

I’ve never been to a WalMart…not sure WHERE one is anywhere near here, but there are some Targets about 20 minutes away….and I like it, but I have to admit the people are ‘different’..Mr. Z HATED going there.

So far I have never made an on-line purchase of anything. Wife doesn’t do it either. If we see somethin we want that’s not available in a brick&mortar store, we have one of our kids buy it and have it shipped to us, then transfer funds to their account. Happens maybe once or twice a year, tops.

Further, I have personally never made a purchase with a credit card. Don’t even carry one. Haven’t found anybody yet who won’t accept cash. Wife buys most stuff with plastic, but always pays off the bill in full to avoid interest charges.

Write maybe half a dozen checks a year, and all of those are to the dentist or the vet. Last time I took two dogs to the vet it cost me over $300, and since I don’t have dental insurance of any kind, each quarterly visit is at least a franklin, so I just stroke a check for that in case they come up with charges I hadn’t anticipated, such as X-rays or somethin.

    So, go’head . . . call me stubborn ‘n’ ol’-fashioned. I’m kinda proud of that.

    Smug, actually.

I like people doing it their own way bocopro. It just reeks of American Freedom. And I love that smell in the morning – and all day long actually. However you like it and no arguments.

But I do love on line purchasing. No driving to go somewhere that doesn’t have what I’m looking for. absolutely love it. And returns are easier than staying in bed on the weekend.
We’re not responsible for credit card fraud (not to insult your intelligence) and recently, i got a notice from my bank that I’m not even responsible for my debit card if I say it’s fraud.

Now if Amazon will only start selling Neutron bombs and the associated delivery systems.

Z, I found my first Walmart 100 miles from here, in Carlsbad where my mom lived. It was a horrible store – pale blue-gray paint with hideous lighting. Everything looked like death inside. I don’t know if that’s a theme or an aberration, and though I was happy to find one and see inside, I’ve not been back.
