FLORIDA STORM

It’s horrible to watch the news and see the hurricane damage and I’m writing this at 5 pm  Wednesday evening LA time so there’s no telling what could happen between now and tomorrow when you all read this!

MUSTANG…are you okay?   I hope so!

SOME OF YOU probably know people in Florida and have stories they have shared with you about hurricanes.   I have friends in Orlando, where I lived for a while.  I have two friends who own two homes on  Atlantic Beach (near or in Jacksonville); one home that was rented out burned to the ground about 5 months ago and now their brand new house they designed and built could be in jeopardy!

ANYBODY HAVE ANY STORIES?   Hopefully, stories about how people made it through all of this okay?

WHAT A NIGHTMARE!

My brother -in law -and sister-in-law were scheduled to close on a home in Palm Coast ( north east Florida) tomorrow(9/30) but the closing is cancelled since they cannot get a homeowners insurance policy.

PETER, I wondered if homeowners insurance is available at all…..these hurricanes are considered “acts of nature, or God,” right? Then, no insurance?

My friend I talked about yesterday is actually on Atlantic Beach, not Jacksonville Beach….but she’s alone there with her dogs and appreciates your prayers! So far, so good!!!

We are in good shape here in Pensacola … a good 360 miles from the storm’s nearest path. Thank you, though.

Peter, not to worry. Your brother-in-law will find an insurance company; he may pay more for a policy, but that’s the price of living in paradise.

Back in 2012, hurricane Sandy, a giant Oak with five trunks partially came.down destroying our garage. Initially we were denied coverage since it was a hurricane. Several days later our homeowners agent called advising we were covered since the storm was downgraded from a hurricane to a tropical storm. You can’t make this stuff up.

We saw a charming cat rescue video of a poor wet kitty hunkered down on top an air conditioner (don’t know how – they are usually terrified and run from even people they know and this guy just picked it up – https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11260003/Good-Samaritan-risks-life-rescue-cat-raging-waters-Hurricane-Ian-surround-it.html), but a time lapse video in Fort Myers showed the initial surges coming in from streets leading from the beach until there was about 3 feet of standing water. All these videos are warnings to not buy a used car of unknown provenance. Many unloaded from a prior major hurricane in Florida were cleaned up and shipped out to far away states to unsuspecting buyers.

As an old Kingston Trio song goes about the vicissitudes of life:
    “They’re rioting in Africa
    They’re starving in Spain
Florida has hurricanes and Texas needs rain.”

Wait … are you saying that the Obama administration’s cash for clunkers program is back on? Hot damn! Another perk from the left!!!

PETER and MUSTANG: So I thought most insurance companies won’t cover “acts of God”…is this not considered one? or ACTS OF NATURE or something?

MUSTANG….SO glad you’ll be okay. My friends in Orlando and right on Atlantic Beach may not be 😦 At least their property; I know my A.B. friend has hunkered down and she lives RIGHT on the sand in a gorgeous new home they custom designed! I suppose their architect took storm surges into account but this is scary!

BAYSIDER…Imagine that cat was pretty happy someone was there for her!!

@Z … Casey DeSantis is recovering from breast cancer. She’s in remission. I hope and pray that she will remain cancer free.
