THIS GIRL really impressed me…..not only for her amazing talent and drive but for what she said after winning.
When asked about the “first Black swimmer to win the Gold”, etc., she replied that “It is something I’ve definitely struggled with a lot,” Manuel said. “Coming into the race I tried to take weight of the black community off my shoulders. It’s something I carry with me. I want to be an inspiration, but I would like there to be a day when it is not ‘Simone the black swimmer.’
I’ve always felt that way. I’m tired of FIRST WOMAN WHATEVER. Just be a PERSON WHO WON.
She said “The title of black swimmer suggests that I am not supposed to win golds or break records, but that’s not true because I train hard and want to win just like everyone else.” And SHE IS RIGHT.
Yes, she did mention what’s going on with the police brutality, ““It means a lot, especially with what is going on in the world today, some of the issues of police brutality,” but who can deny that exists? So USA TODAY and other papers headlined this “Simone Manuel speaks out on police brutality.” Really? She mentioned it rather in passing, (see above) and that’s “SPEAKING OUT?” Anything to stir things up.
She was used by the press for only mentioning that she wants to be considered good for HER, not her color, and because she mentioned the police …. sad. She’s an inspiration and doesn’t deserve to be used.
I HONOR THIS HERO…..YOUNG, CAPABLE, HARD WORKING AND NO WHINER….!
Also: BILL MURRAY says something I found funny: “Every Olympic event should include one average person competing for reference!”

Well, for me it would be a toss-up between dangling participles, misplacing modifiers, running sentences together, and splicing clauses. Omitting end punctuation might be an alternative if my writing stylus malfunctioned.
Other than that, it’d hafta be skeet/trap shootin. Generally, I got good at everything I ever tried — football, baseball, tennis, archery, fishin, pool — but not good enuf to be considered an expert or blue-ribbon winner. Carried a 7 handicap for a month or so in golf just before I retired, and won a lotta trophies at bowling, but who hasn’t done that?
Purty gud at skeet, tho . . . I’ve gone 200 straight with the 12 and 100 straight maybe half a dozen times with the 20 gauge. Scores dropped off precipitously with the .410, tho, and I was only fair-to-middlin with the 28 gauge.
Think my best activity was making babies and raisin ’em to be drug- and conviction-free adults. Based on public statistics, I prob’ly oughta get a gold medal for stayin with the same woman for over half a century, but shucks, ‘twarn’t that bad and I actually enjoyed it, so ’tain’t fair to get re-warded for somethin that’s fun, is it?

I’m sick to death too of a woman did this, a negro or whatever did that. It’s really dehumanizing. I with the press would just acknowledge the person’s name and Nationality and leave it at that. This race baiting has got to stop, but I guess it won’t because there’s power and money in it.
As far as what kind of event I would participate in, do they offer a couch potato category? No? Well, how about a motorcycle riding event or shooting. Not to brag, but I’m a pretty good shot. I hit just about anything I’m aiming at.

There is NO sport I can imagine myself but when I was much younger I was a heck of badminton player… I don’t think they’ve even got medals in badminton?
Bocopro…No, you do NOT get a medal for staying with a wife you obviously still adore! But raising good kids is a great thing for a medal…And your writing probably deserves one!
Bunkerville….but she barely mentioned it. She mentioned race in the way you mean it “Let’s get PAST it..I’m a SWIMMER, a GOOD ONE who worked as hard as everyone else and it’s not about color”

As fish need water to survive, Marxism requires class conflicts. Where no such conflicts exist, Marxism invents them. That is, Marxism suspends reality and embraces absurd myths that retro-fit its dogma.
Those who defy Marxism by acknowledging reality are silenced through bullying and intimidation that typically includes false accusations of racism.

IMP Completely pre-wrote my point that wouldn’t have been said nearly as well. I would have said it is the libtards and the blacks who keep the conce3pt of ‘black’ alive. Maybe a little different angle there.
Yes, Simone is Fantastic. I wasn’t going to watch any opympics, but her performance made it through my filters and I’m glad it did. Truly fantastic performance. And she’s no feather light thing to make it easier to throw her self around like that.
I guess we addressed the black thing.
Love the Bill Murray comment. I’ve thought the same thing about golf, but instead of having the average compete with the pros, just have tournaments consisting of average golfers, but moderated by pro golf tournament announcers. Like i’m on the 5th tee, 450 yds, I pull out a 7 wood, and Johnny Miller starts yelling into the mic NO, Not the 7 wood ! Is he nuts ? Or Oh My God is he actually going to Try to putt that ball into the lake ? I think it would be a riot. And have a healthy prize for the winners, especially the top 10.
I would describe myself as good at a lot of things expert at nothing. You really need to devote yourself to something for a lot of years to be an expert and I’m just one of those people who is still tring to pick a career at 63.
Bocopro – My lunch buddies are a very conservative couple who just celebrated their 48th. Lovely wonderful people and so rare. I really treasure them. I’ll give ya the Gold.

Wow, I look at this young woman as someone who could have really played on the black thing and didn’t…it’s the headlines making the big stink; she’s right she shouldn’t have to ‘carry the weight of the black community’ on her shoulders…and she should NOT be looked at as the BLACK SWIMMER. Oh, do I admire her.
Mal…good sport 🙂

And…the “woman for the middle class and the little people”, who’s in the top 15?
Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA), Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Rodham Clinton’s running mate, dined exclusively with the son of progressive billionaire George Soros on Thursday evening, according to a photo posted on Alexander Soros’ Instagram on Friday afternoon.
The fact that Alex Soros, who was inspired in his own progressivism by his controversial father, has unfettered access to Kaine—Hillary Clinton’s running mate—is unsurprising. The Clinton apparatus has long come under scrutiny for their closeness with high dollar donor class figures, some of which has prompted federal law enforcement to fight for an official criminal investigation into the “Clinton Cash” narrative—
That being said, reports have surfaced that the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Preet Bharara is in fact investigating—along with the FBI—the Clinton Foundation for such donor class proclivities with the Clinton apparatus.
Even more troubling than the Clinton Cash narrative though is the fact that Hillary Clinton’s tax returns—the 2015 returns were released on Friday—show that she and Bill Clinton have made a whopping $240 million since leaving the White House when George W. Bush won the 2000 presidential election. That’s a long way from “dead broke,” which they said they were at the time, and it’s all from their governmental connections and paid speeches.
Yea…..she’s down with the little people.

Baysider, back when wife and I were fostering orphan kittens….At one time, we had about 15 that were old enough to go outside and wander. We’d let them out and when dusk came around we’d call them by name (I had names for all of them at around a month old based on personality) and every one of them would come flying home from the neighborhood. Really fascinating. I wouldn’t have believed it possible.

No, Kid, I have this remarkable ability to find entertainment in the most unlikely events. The only torture I’m forced to endure these days in reality is osteoarthritis in both thumbs, chronic impingement in my starboard arm (frozen shoulder syndrome), and periodic recurrence of sciatica.
And considering how I’ve abused my body over 7 decades, I figger I got all that comin. Sooner or later after all that dancin, the fiddler comes to collect his due.
I used to consider grading those insipid student papers a form of torture, but retirement neatly eliminated that agony. And even while I was doing it, occasionally I’d stumble upon a gem amongst the rubble at the base of the mountain of stealth thesis statements, runaway generalizations, badly camouflaged plagiarism, shattered rules of grammar, and mangled logic.
Often I cleaned my palate with exercises such as this one, with apologies to Lord Byron:
ByRonic Irony 1993
She writes in drivel, like a blight
Of childish thoughts and silly dreams;
And all that’s worst in black and white
Meet in her essays and her themes;
Thus rambling to that oversight
Which logic at the grammar screams.
One word the more, one draft the less
Had half revised the senseless flaw
Which shows in every mindless mess,
Or grimly mangles sentence law,
Where errors blithely clear undress
Half-baked ideas, en gran faux pas.
And on that mind, and o’er that brain,
So vacant, empty, negligent,
The grins that beckon, eyes that strain,
But tell of nights in mischief spent,
A source of English language pain,
A teacher’s disillusionment.

Kid, or getting them INTO the box to go to the vet! OMG! Well, golly gosh . . . I better get to work on my whimsy generator, ’cause I do SO hate bein predictable.
Incidentally, I haven’t had more than half a dozen drinks in the past 10 years, and those were just handed to me more or less accidentally by my children during get-togethers. Just sorta gave it all up when the docs put me on statins for my inverted HDL/LDL ratio.
In retrospect, I never DID much care for beer. Drank it ’cause that’s what other guys drank on liberty back then. Given my druthers, it’d have been blended whiskey, but that was hard to get in Southeast Asia. And many good Italian meals just scream for Chianti, or at least a hearty burgundy. Prefer Merlot with my steak, tho both have been scratched from my diet by cardiac rehab nurses.
I’ve been known to accept a Cuba Libre from time to time, tho . . . with a twist, of course, when in tropical climes and the company of generous companions. And I’ve personally murdified several magnums of Cold Duck at various bobbycues over the years.

No matter what they way, black people have arrived. From my personal perspective, I look at my black next door neighbors and see a house as large as mine, kids who went to the same public schools, and a man and woman who both worked to send their kids to college. They sent three kids to college while we sent two kids to college. On his job he gets about five weeks of vacation per year, while I am retired, but never got more than two or three per year. They have it as good or better than anyone else in the neighborhood.
There’s another black family on the street, and they seem to do exceptionally well. The man has followed a career in emergency management and preparation, being the county director at one point. His wife is a school teacher, and they both drive Lexus’.
No one in either family was a slave, nor was anybody in my family. Since they are in the upper levels of income and standard of living, they are not due any reparations. What’s the difference between my black friends and the Michael Browns of the world? My friends had responsible parents an all are hard working. It is a miraculous story when you think about it. Three or four generations since slavery and these people are in the upper half of socio-economic strata.
That’s the way I see things. I don’t know how they see it.
God bless Simone and the other ladies on our Olympic teams.
